However<MG1161>, I did not say<MG3004> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> to you at the beginning<MG746>, because<MG3754> I was with you. <p class="hdg">The Holy Spirit Promised</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“But now<MG3568> I am going<MG5217> to Him who sent<MG3992> Me; and none<MG3762> of you asks<MG2065> Me, ‘Where<MG4226> are You going<MG5217>?’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>But because<MG3754> I have said<MG2980> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> to you, grief<MG3077> has filled<MG4137> your heart<MG2588>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>But I tell<MG3004> you the truth<MG225>: it is<MG4851a> to<MG4851a> your advantage<MG4851a> that I am leaving<MG565>; for if<MG1437> I do not leave<MG565>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Helper<MG3875> will not come<MG2064> to you; but if<MG1437> I go<MG4198>, I will send<MG3992> Him to you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And He, when He comes<MG2064>, will convict<MG1651> the world<MG2889> regarding<MG4012> sin<MG266>, and righteousness<MG1343>, and judgment<MG2920>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>regarding<MG4012> sin<MG266>, because<MG3754> they do not believe<MG4100> in Me; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>and regarding<MG4012> righteousness<MG1343>, because<MG3754> I am going<MG5217> to the Father<MG3962> and you no<MG3765> longer<MG3765> <i>are going to</i> see<MG2334> Me; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>and regarding<MG4012> judgment<MG2920>, because<MG3754> the ruler<MG758> of this<MG3778> world<MG2889> has been judged<MG2919>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“I have<MG2192> many<MG4183> more<MG2089> things<MG4183> to say<MG3004> to you, but you cannot<MG1410, 3756> bear<MG941> <i>them</i> at the present<MG737> time<MG737>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But when<MG3752> He, the Spirit<MG4151> of truth<MG225>, comes<MG2064>, He will guide<MG3594> you into all<MG3956> the truth<MG225>; for He will not speak<MG2980> on His own<MG1438>, but whatever<MG3745> He hears<MG191>, He will speak<MG2980>; and He will disclose<MG312> to you what is to come<MG2064>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>He will glorify<MG1392> Me, for He will take<MG2983> from Mine<MG1699> and will disclose<MG312> <i>it</i> to you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>All<MG3956> things<MG3956> that the Father<MG3962> has<MG2192> are Mine<MG1699>; this<MG3778> is why<MG1223> I said<MG3004> that He takes<MG2983> from Mine<MG1699> and will disclose<MG312> <i>it</i> to you. <p class="hdg">Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Foretold</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“A little<MG3398> while<MG3398>, and you no<MG3765> longer<MG3765> <i>are going to</i> see<MG3708> Me; and again<MG3825> a little<MG3398> while<MG3398>, and you will see<MG3708> Me.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>So<MG3767> some<MG1537> of<MG1537> His disciples<MG3101> said<MG3004> to one<MG240> another<MG240>, “What<MG5101> is this<MG3778> that He is telling<MG3004> us, ‘A little<MG3398> while<MG3398>, and you are not <i>going to</i> see<MG3708> Me; and again<MG3825> a little<MG3398> while<MG3398>, and you will see<MG3708> Me’; and, ‘because<MG3754> I am going<MG5217> to the Father<MG3962>’?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>So<MG3767> they were saying<MG3004>, “What<MG5101> is this<MG3778> that He says<MG3004>, ‘A little<MG3398> while<MG3398>’? We do not know<MG3609a> what<MG5101> He is talking<MG2980> <i>about.</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> knew<MG1097> that they wanted<MG2309> to question<MG2065> Him, and He said<MG3004> to them, “Are you deliberating<MG2212> together<MG3326, 240> about<MG4012> this<MG3778>, that I said<MG3004>, ‘A little<MG3398> while<MG3398>, and you are not <i>going to</i> see<MG3708> Me, and again<MG3825> a little<MG3398> while<MG3398>, and you will see<MG3708> Me’? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you that you will weep<MG2799> and mourn<MG2354>, but the world<MG2889> will rejoice<MG5463>; you will grieve<MG3076>, but your grief<MG3077> will be turned<MG1096> into joy<MG5479>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Whenever<MG3752> a woman<MG1135> is in labor<MG5088> she has<MG2192> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>pain<MG3077>, because<MG3754> her hour<MG5610> has come<MG2064>; but when<MG3752> she gives<MG1080> birth<MG1080> to the child<MG3813>, she no<MG3765> longer<MG3765> remembers<MG3421> the anguish<MG2347> because<MG3754> of the joy<MG5479> that a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>child<MG444> has been born<MG1080> into the world<MG2889>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> you too<MG2532> have<MG2192> grief<MG3077> now<MG3568>; but I will see<MG3708> you again<MG3825>, and your heart<MG2588> will rejoice<MG5463>, and no<MG3762> one<MG3762> <i>is going to</i> take<MG142> your joy<MG5479> away<MG142> from you. <p class="hdg">Prayer Promises</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And on that day<MG2250> you will not question<MG2065> Me about anything<MG5100>. Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, if<MG302> you ask<MG154> the Father<MG3962> for anything<MG5100> in My name<MG3686>, He will give<MG1325> it to you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Until<MG2193> now<MG737> you have asked<MG154> for nothing<MG3762> in My name<MG3686>; ask<MG154> and you will receive<MG2983>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> your joy<MG5479> may be made<MG4137> full<MG4137>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>“These<MG3778> things<MG3778> I have spoken<MG2980> to you in figures<MG3942> of<MG3942> speech<MG3942>; an hour<MG5610> is coming<MG2064> when<MG3753> I will no<MG3765> longer<MG3765> speak<MG2980> to you in figures<MG3942> of<MG3942> speech<MG3942>, but will tell<MG518> you plainly<MG3954> about<MG4012> the Father<MG3962>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>On that day<MG2250> you will ask<MG154> in My name<MG3686>, and I am not saying<MG3004> to you that I will request<MG2065> of the Father<MG3962> on<MG4012> your behalf<MG4012>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>for the Father<MG3962> Himself<MG846> loves<MG5368> you, because<MG3754> you have loved<MG5368> Me and have believed<MG4100> that I came<MG1831> forth<MG1831> from the Father<MG3962>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>I came<MG1831> forth<MG1831> from the Father<MG3962> and have come<MG2064> into the world<MG2889>; again<MG3825>, I am leaving<MG863> the world<MG2889> and going<MG4198> to the Father<MG3962>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>His disciples<MG3101> *said<MG3004>, “See<MG2396>, now<MG3568> You are speaking<MG2980> plainly<MG3954> and are not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>using<MG3004> any<MG3762> figure<MG3942> of<MG3942> speech<MG3942>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Now<MG3568> we know<MG3609a> that You know<MG3609a> all<MG3956> things<MG3956>, and <i>that</i> You have<MG2192> no<MG3756> need<MG5532> for anyone<MG5100> to question<MG2065> You; this<MG3778> is why<MG1722> we believe<MG4100> that You came<MG1831> forth<MG1831> from God<MG2316>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> replied<MG611> to them, “Do you now<MG737> believe<MG4100>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Behold<MG2400>, an hour<MG5610> is coming<MG2064>, and has <i>already</i> come<MG2064>, for you to be scattered<MG4650>, each<MG1538> to his own<MG2398> <i>home,</i> and to leave<MG863> Me alone<MG3441>; and <i>yet</i> I am<MG1510> not alone<MG3441>, because<MG3754> the Father<MG3962> is with Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/16-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>These<MG3778> things<MG3778> I have spoken<MG2980> to you so<MG2443> that<MG2443> in Me you may have<MG2192> peace<MG1515>.
