1901年，英国长老公会在泉州设惠世女医院，还附设护士学校，招收女生。此外，英国教会又先后派人创建永春医院和惠安仁世医院。教会办医院使泉州人对西医开始有了认识，逐渐接受西医疗法。至抗战前后，西医已遍布泉州主要城镇。<BR><STRONG>2.光复泉州 </STRONG><BR> 1906年，许卓然、黄中流等一批在海外参加同盟会的泉属华侨受同盟会的委派，回泉州秘密开展革命活动。1911年月11月18日上午，泉州同盟会员从开元寺出发，依次到府衙、县衙、协台衙门举行光复典礼，泉州和平光复。 <BR><STRONG>3.拆城辟路 </STRONG><BR> 1923年，为发展交通，泉州市政局开始拆除泉州城垣，历时近两年，拓成中山路，全长2414米，宽12米。同时改造东西街和新门街、涂门街。由此构成泉州市区马路网。至1937年，泉州城垣全部被拆除。<BR><STRONG>4.惠安暴动 </STRONG><BR> 1930年7月，中共泉州特委传达福建省委同意在惠安举行武装暴动的决定和行动方案，成立福建红军惠安总指挥部。9月16日，红二团在五陈乡建立起惠安县第一个苏维埃政权。后红二团受到国民党军队及乡民团千余人包围，寡不敌众，红二团进行战略转移。惠安暴动失败。 <BR><STRONG>5.最大水灾 </STRONG><BR> 1935年农历六月底，台风暴雨连日袭击泉州，泉州、晋江、安溪、南安、惠安相继发生洪水。泉州灾情最重，损失最惨，全城被浸4天，四郊农作物全部被淹。死伤百余人，财产损失300多万元。泉州各界人士组织赈灾会筹款。<BR><STRONG>6.日军暴行 </STRONG><BR> 1940年7月16日，300多名日军士兵分3路进犯永宁，驻外高村的20多名海防战士浴血奋战。日军占领永宁后大肆烧杀掠夺，史称“永宁惨案”。同日，500多名日军窜入崇武城杀死民众93人，烧毁渔船521艘，烧毁房屋566间、庙宇1座，史称“崇武惨案”。 <BR><STRONG>7.泉州解放 </STRONG><BR> 1949年4月21日中国人民解放军横渡长江，同年8月17日福州解放。游击队先后解放南安、惠安、安溪等县城。8月31日泉州游击队与解放军会师，泉州城区解放。 <BR><STRONG>8．古船出土 </STRONG><BR> 泉州造船历史悠久，唐代已达相当水平。宋代随着海外贸易的进一步发展，造船业更加兴盛。1973年，泉州后渚港海边滩涂地里发现一艘古代海船残骸。随船出土的还有大量香料、药物、陶瓷器等，是研究宋代泉州海外贸易和造船技术的重要实物资料。 <BR><STRONG>9.泉州市升为地级市</STRONG> <BR> 1985年5月14日，国务院批准撤销晋江地区，泉州市升为地级市，惠安、晋江、南安、安溪、永春、德化、金门（待回归）等七县划归泉州市管辖。<BR><STRONG>10.“海上丝绸之路”考察</STRONG> <BR> 1991年2月14日至19日，联合国教科文组织“海上丝绸之路”考察团到泉州考察,对伊斯兰教圣墓、洛阳桥、九日山摩崖石刻、开元寺、草庵摩尼教寺等进行考察，并召开“中国与海上丝绸之路”国际学术讨论会。</FONT></P></P><P><b>泉州之最</b></P><P class=height22px><FONT face=宋体> 天后宫是我国现存最早最大的妈姐庙。 <BR> 草庵摩尼教寺是世界上唯一的摩尼教寺庙。 <BR> 海外交通史博物馆是我国唯一反映古代中外海上交通史的专门性博物馆。 <BR> 惠安洛阳桥是我国现存最早的海港大石桥。 <BR> 安平桥是我国最长的古石桥。 <BR> 伊斯兰教圣墓是我国现存最古老、最完好的伊斯兰圣墓。 <BR> 开元寺内的千年古桑是我国现存最古老的桑树，树龄1300多年。 <BR> 开元寺内的东西塔是我国现存最高石塔，高48.24米。 <BR> 清源山老君岩的老君造像是我国现存最大的道教石雕。 <BR> 清净寺是我国现存最早、最古老的伊斯兰教寺庙。 <BR> 南安丰州九日山的祈风石刻群是我国现存数量最多的祈风石刻。 <BR> 崇武古城是我国现存最完整的花岗岩滨海石城。</FONT></P><P><b>宗教大观园</b></P><P class=height22px><FONT face=宋体> 在很长的一段历史时期内，泉州受到过各种宗教文化的影响，在当地的文化和文明发展史中留下了很深的印记，因此泉州堪称是“宗教大观园”。<BR> 泉州城北的清源山秦汉时就有方士和隐者活动，西晋太康年间（280－289年），泉州最早的道教宫观白云庙在泉州府治南建置；与此同时，佛教徒也在泉州下属的南安九日山下创建了延福寺。唐代时，泉州的海外贸易逐渐发达，为多种宗教在泉州的传播进一步提供了条件，大批道教宫观和佛教寺院相继创建。佛教在泉州的传播过程中，不断与泉州地方传统民俗文化相融合，逐渐形成具有泉州地方色彩的佛教文化。接着，伊斯兰教和摩尼教也传入泉州。五代时，闽王政权推崇倡导道、佛二教，泉州的道教和佛教达到鼎盛阶段。<BR> 到宋代，伊斯兰教、景教（基督教）也开始在泉州流传，阿拉伯人和波斯人都在泉州建造了寺院。元代时，朝廷对各门宗教采取兼收并蓄的态度，道教、佛教、伊斯兰教、景教和明教都可以自由传播，天主教和印度教也在元朝前期传入泉州，多种宗教在泉州并存，此时的泉州是世界宗教的辐射点。<BR> 明初时，泉州出现了盲目的排外运动，各门外来宗教受到严重摧毁；直到明末天主教才再度传入泉州，但因它不尊重中国原有的传统文化，于乾隆年间被禁绝。鸦片战争后，基督教、天主教再度传入，对泉州的教育和卫生带来较大影响。清末，日本教也传入泉州。<BR> 新中国成立以后，在宗教信仰自由的政策下，泉州的基督教、佛教、道教、伊斯兰教等都成立了宗教组织，使泉州的宗教文化又呈现出丰富多采的面貌。</FONT> </P>
