and his mother&#8217;s<MH517> name<MH8034> was Hephzibah<MH2657>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>He did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, in accordance with the abominations<MH8441> of the nations<MH1471> whom<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>dispossessed<MH3423> before<MH4480, 6440> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>For he rebuilt<MH7725, 1129> the high<MH1116> places<MH1116> which<MH834> his father<MH1> Hezekiah<MH2396> had destroyed<MH6>; and he erected<MH6965> altars<MH4196> for Baal<MH1168a> and made<MH6213a> an <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Asherah<MH842>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> Ahab<MH256> king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> had done<MH6213a>, and he worshiped<MH2331c> all<MH3605> the heavenly<MH8064> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>lights<MH6635> and served<MH5647> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And he built<MH1129> altars<MH4196> in the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>, of which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> had said<MH559>, &#8220;In Jerusalem<MH3389> I will put<MH7760> My name<MH8034>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>He built<MH1129> altars<MH4196> for all<MH3605> the heavenly<MH8064> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>lights<MH6635> in the two<MH8147> courtyards<MH2691a> of the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And he made his son<MH1121> pass<MH5674a> through the fire<MH784>, interpreted<MH6049a> signs<MH6049a>, practiced<MH5172> divination<MH5172>, and used<MH6213a> mediums<MH178> and spiritists<MH3049>. He did<MH6213a> great<MH7235a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, provoking<MH3707> <i>Him</i> to<MH3707> anger<MH3707>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then he put<MH7760> the carved<MH6459> image<MH6459> of Asherah<MH842> that he had made<MH6213a> in the house<MH1004> of which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> had said<MH559> to David<MH1732> and to his son<MH1121> Solomon<MH8010>, &#8220;In this<MH2088> house<MH1004> and in Jerusalem<MH3389>, which<MH834> I have chosen<MH977> from all<MH3605> the tribes<MH7626> of Israel<MH3478>, I will put<MH7760> My name<MH8034> forever<MH5769>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And I will not make the feet<MH7272> of Israel<MH3478> wander<MH5110> anymore<MH3254> from the land<MH127> which<MH834> I gave<MH5414> their fathers<MH1>, if<MH518> only<MH7534b> they will take<MH8104> care<MH8104> to act<MH6213a> in accordance with everything<MH3605> that I have commanded<MH6680> them, and with all<MH3605> the Law<MH8451> that My servant<MH5650> Moses<MH4872> commanded<MH6680> them.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>But they did not listen<MH8085>, and Manasseh<MH4519> encouraged<MH8582> them to do<MH6213a> evil<MH7451b>, more<MH4480> than<MH4480> the nations<MH1471> whom<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> eliminated<MH8045> from<MH4480> the presence<MH6440> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. <p class="hdg">The King&#8217;s Idolatries Rebuked</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> through<MH3027> His servants<MH5650> the prophets<MH5030>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>&#8220;Since<MH3282, 834> Manasseh<MH4519> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> has committed<MH6213a> these<MH428> abominations<MH8441>, having done<MH7489a> more<MH4480> evil<MH7489a> than<MH4480> all<MH3605> that the Amorites<MH567> did<MH6213a> who<MH834> <i>were</i> before<MH6440> him, and has also<MH1571> misled<MH2398> Judah<MH3063> into<MH2398> sin<MH2398> with his idols<MH1544>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>therefore<MH3651> this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: &#8216;Behold<MH2009>, I am bringing<MH935> <i>such a</i> disaster<MH7463a> on Jerusalem<MH3389> and Judah<MH3063> that whoever<MH3605> hears<MH8085> about it, both<MH8147> of his ears<MH241> will ring<MH6750>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>I will stretch<MH5186> over<MH5921> Jerusalem<MH3389> the line<MH6957b> of Samaria<MH8111> and the plummet<MH4949> of the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256>, and I will wipe<MH4229a> Jerusalem<MH3389> clean<MH4229a> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> one wipes<MH4229a> a bowl<MH6747>, wiping<MH4229a> it and turning<MH2015> it upside<MH5921, 6440> down<MH6440>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And I will abandon<MH5203> the remnant<MH7611> of My inheritance<MH5159> and hand<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH5414> to their enemies<MH340>, and they will become<MH1961> as plunder<MH957> and spoils<MH4933> to all<MH3605> their enemies<MH340>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>because<MH3282, 834> they have done<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in My sight<MH5869>, and have been<MH1961> provoking<MH3707> Me to<MH3707> anger<MH3707> since<MH4480> the day<MH3117> their fathers<MH1> came<MH3318> from Egypt<MH4714>, even to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>.&#8217;&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Furthermore<MH1571>, Manasseh<MH4519> shed<MH8210> very<MH3966> much<MH7235a> innocent<MH5355a> blood<MH1818> until<MH5704, 834> he had filled<MH4390> Jerusalem<MH3389> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>from one<MH6310> end<MH6310> to another<MH6310>, besides<MH905, 4480> his sin<MH2403b> into which<MH834> he misled<MH2398> Judah<MH3063>, in doing<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Now the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Manasseh<MH4519> and all<MH3605> that he did<MH6213a>, and his sin<MH2403b> which<MH834> he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>committed<MH2398>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And Manasseh<MH4519> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>lay<MH7901> down<MH7901> with his fathers<MH1> and was buried<MH6912> in the garden<MH1588> of his own house<MH1004>, in the garden<MH1588> of Uzza<MH5798>, and his son<MH1121> Amon<MH526> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <p class="hdg">Amon Succeeds Manasseh</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Amon<MH526> was twenty-two<MH6242, 8147> years<MH8141> old<MH1121> when he became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a>, and he reigned<MH4427a> for two<MH8147> years<MH8141> in Jerusalem<MH3389>; and his mother&#8217;s<MH517> name<MH8034> <i>was</i> Meshullemeth<MH4922> the daughter<MH1323> of Haruz<MH2743> of Jotbah<MH3192>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>He did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> his father<MH1> Manasseh<MH4519> had done<MH6213a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>For he walked<MH1980> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>entirely<MH3605> in the way<MH1870> that his father<MH1> had walked<MH1980>, and served<MH5647> the idols<MH1544> that his father<MH1> had served<MH5647>, and worshiped<MH2331c> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>So he abandoned<MH5800a> the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of his fathers<MH1>, and did not walk<MH1980> in the way<MH1870> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And the servants<MH5650> of Amon<MH526> conspired<MH7194> against<MH5921> him and killed<MH4191> the king<MH4428> in his own house<MH1004>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Then the people<MH5971a> of the land<MH776> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>killed<MH5221> all<MH3605> those who had conspired<MH7194> against<MH5921> King<MH4428> Amon<MH526>, and the people<MH5971a> of the land<MH776> made<MH4427a> his son<MH1121> Josiah<MH2977> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/21-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Now the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Amon<MH526> which<MH834> he did<MH6213a>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>?
