he did not turn<MH5493> from them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>So the anger<MH639> of the LORD<MH3068> was kindled<MH2734> against Israel<MH3478>, and He continually<MH3605, 3117> handed<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH5414> to Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758>, and to Ben-hadad<MH1130>, the son<MH1121> of Hazael<MH2371>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Then Jehoahaz<MH3059> appeased<MH2470b, 6440> the LORD<MH3068>, and the LORD<MH3068> listened<MH8085> to him; for He saw<MH7200> the oppression<MH3906> of Israel<MH3478>, how<MH3588> the king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> oppressed<MH3905> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> gave<MH5414> Israel<MH3478> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>savior<MH3467>, so that they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>escaped<MH3318> from under<MH8478> the hand<MH3027> of the Arameans<MH758>; and the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> lived<MH3427> in their tents<MH168> as previously<MH8032a, 8543>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Nevertheless<MH389> they did not abandon<MH5493, 4480> the sins<MH2403b> of the house<MH1004> of Jeroboam<MH3379>, into which<MH834> he misled<MH2398> Israel<MH3478>; <i>rather,</i> they walked<MH1980> in <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>them; and the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Asherah<MH842> also<MH1571> remained standing<MH5975> in Samaria<MH8111>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>For he left<MH7604> to Jehoahaz<MH3059> no<MH3808> more<MH3588, 518> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>army<MH5971a> than<MH3588, 518> fifty<MH2572> horsemen<MH6571b>, ten<MH6235> chariots<MH7393>, and ten<MH6235> thousand<MH505> infantry<MH7273>, because<MH3588> the king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> had eliminated<MH6> them and made<MH7760> them like the dust<MH6083> at threshing<MH1758>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now <i>as for</i> the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Jehoahaz<MH3059>, and all<MH3605> that he did<MH6213a> and his might<MH1369>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And Jehoahaz<MH3059> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>lay<MH7901> down<MH7901> with his fathers<MH1>, and they buried<MH6912> him in Samaria<MH8111>; and his son<MH1121> Joash<MH3060> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>In the thirty-seventh<MH7970, 7651> year<MH8141> of Joash<MH3060> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>Jehoash<MH3060> the son<MH1121> of Jehoahaz<MH3059> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478> in Samaria<MH8111>, <i>and he reigned</i> for sixteen<MH8337a, 6240> years<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>He did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>; and Joash<MH3060> was buried<MH6912> in Samaria<MH8111> with the kings<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>. <p class="hdg">Death of Elisha</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>When Elisha<MH477> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>became<MH2470a> sick<MH2470a> with the illness<MH2483> of which<MH834> he was to die<MH4191>, Joash<MH3060> the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> came<MH3381> down<MH3381> to him, and wept<MH1058> over<MH5921> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>him and said<MH559>, “My father<MH1>, my father<MH1>, the chariots<MH7393> of Israel<MH3478> and its horsemen<MH6571b>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And Elisha<MH477> said<MH559> to him, “Take<MH3947> a bow<MH7198> and arrows<MH2671>.” So he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>took<MH3947> a bow<MH7198> and arrows<MH2671>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Then <i>Elisha</i> said<MH559> to the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>, “Lay<MH7392> your hand<MH3027> on the bow<MH7198>.” And he laid<MH7392> his hand<MH3027> <i>on it,</i> then Elisha<MH477> put<MH7760> his hands<MH3027> on the king’s<MH4428> hands<MH3027>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And he said<MH559>, “Open<MH6605a> the window<MH2474> toward the east<MH6924b>,” and he opened<MH6605a> <i>it.</i> Then Elisha<MH477> said<MH559>, “Shoot<MH3384>!” So he shot<MH3384>. And he said<MH559>, “The LORD’S<MH3068> arrow<MH2671> of victory<MH8668>, and the arrow<MH2671> of victory<MH8668> over Aram<MH758>; for you will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>defeat<MH5221> the Arameans<MH758> at Aphek<MH663> until<MH5704> you have put<MH3615> an<MH3615> end<MH3615> <i>to them.</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559>, “Take<MH3947> the arrows<MH2671>,” and he took<MH3947> <i>them.</i> And he said<MH559> to the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>, “Strike<MH5221> the ground<MH776>,” and he struck<MH5221> <i>it</i> three<MH7969> times<MH6471> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>stopped<MH5975>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then the man<MH376> of God<MH430> became<MH7107> angry<MH7107> at him and said<MH559>, “You should have struck<MH5221> five<MH2568> or<MH176> six<MH8337a> times<MH6471>, then<MH227> you would have struck<MH5221> Aram<MH758> until<MH5704> you put<MH3615> an<MH3615> end<MH3615> <i>to it.</i> But now<MH6258> you shall strike<MH5221> Aram<MH758> <i>only</i> three<MH7969> times<MH6471>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And Elisha<MH477> died<MH4191>, and they buried<MH6912> him. Now the marauding<MH1416> bands<MH1416> of the Moabites<MH4124> would invade<MH935> the land<MH776> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>in the spring<MH935> of the year<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And as they were burying<MH6912> a man<MH376>, behold<MH2009>, they saw<MH7200> a marauding<MH1416> band<MH1416>; and they threw<MH7993> the man<MH376> into the grave<MH6913> of Elisha<MH477>. And when the man<MH376> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>touched<MH5060> the bones<MH6106> of Elisha<MH477> he revived<MH2421a> and stood<MH6965> up<MH6965> on his feet<MH7272>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Now Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> had oppressed<MH3905> Israel<MH3478> all<MH3605> the days<MH3117> of Jehoahaz<MH3059>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But the LORD<MH3068> was<MH2603a> gracious<MH2603a> to them and had<MH7355> compassion<MH7355> on<MH7355> them and turned<MH6437> to them because<MH4616> of His covenant<MH1285> with Abraham<MH85>, Isaac<MH3327>, and Jacob<MH3290>; and He was unwilling<MH3808, 14> to eliminate<MH7843> them or cast<MH7993> them away<MH7993> from His presence<MH6440> until<MH5704> now<MH6258>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>When Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> died<MH4191>, his son<MH1121> Ben-hadad<MH1130> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/13-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then Jehoash<MH3060> the son<MH1121> of Jehoahaz<MH3059> again<MH7725> took<MH3947> from the hand<MH3027> of Ben-hadad<MH1130> the son<MH1121> of Hazael<MH2371> the cities<MH5892b> which<MH834> he had taken<MH3947> in war<MH4421> from the hand<MH3027> of his father<MH1> Jehoahaz<MH3059>.
