a 58-year-old gardener, says he was tortured in an Iraqi prison after he was arrested and accused of participating in an attack in the capital, Baghdad. He was arrested on 15 October 2006 and set free on 5 April 2007 after he was helped by a senior Iraqi officer who said that Nizar was his gardener and that he was definitely innocent. </p> <p>As result of the torture he endured, one of his legs sustained serious injuries and doctors said it might require amputation. class="external" target="_blank">here</a>.</p> <p>Journalists and media presenters are commonly the victims of armed attacks in Iraq. </p> <p><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43191" class="external" target="_blank">188 journalists have been killed since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003</a> according to the Iraqi Observatory of Journalistic Freedoms, an independent NGO established in 2004 to monitor violations against journalists working in Iraq.</p> <p>Two green zone government security personnel were <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43199" class="external" target="_blank">killed in fighting in Baghdad</a> – no details given of the circumstances. The same statement claimed to have detained 138 fighters and defused 11 bombs as part of the “surge”</p> <p>American forces are <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43220" class="external" target="_blank">besieging the Sadrist offices in Kazhimiyah</a> – there are reports of gunfire and explosions but no detailed information yet. A green zone government soldier was <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43219" class="external" target="_blank">killed at noon today, Sunday, in an attack by gunmen on a checkpoint</a> in Al-Salam (west  Baghdad. )</p> <p>Gunmen <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43215" class="external" target="_blank">stole (184) million Iraqi dinars ($ 138 thousand) from the Central bank in an armed raid</a>. The money was to be used to pay green zone government civil servants.</p> <p>The Virtue Party have held a large demonstration in <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43202" class="external" target="_blank">Basrah</a> and accuse the green zone government of being responsible for the deterioration of the situation in the city and governorate.</p> <p>The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43201" class="external" target="_blank">Iranian</a> principal nuclear negotiator arrived in Baghdad today. (Ali Larijani is the principal negotiator for nuclear matters in the Iranian government.)</p> <p>A motorbike bomb parked near the hospital  <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43200" class="external" target="_blank">destroyed an American invader humvee in Haditha</a> and killed and wounded a number of people. Casualty numbers as yet unknown.</p> <p>One civilian was killed and another injured by a bomb aimed at a green zone government patro. A bomb in <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43189" class="external" target="_blank">Tal Afar</a> An attempted suicide bombing in Ra’biah failed.</p> <p>Three green zone government policemen were <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43187" class="external" target="_blank">killed and four wounded in clashes with gunmen in Kut</a>.</p> <p> The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43184" class="external" target="_blank">bomb attack on the American army of occupation patrol in Ad Duluiyah</a> destroyed an APC.</p> <p>The reports that the<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43181" class="external" target="_blank">Americans are bombarding densely populated residential areas in Baghdad</a>d have now been confirmed.</p> <p> The green zone government <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43221" class="external" target="_blank">base in Fallujah came under mortar attack this afternoon</a>. The toll is expected to rise.</p> <p>A mortar round landed on a residential area in al-Risala neighborhood, (southwestern Baghdad) <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43130" class="external" target="_blank">killing three civilians and wounding 10 more amongst them two children</a>. A number of homes were also destroyed. </p> <p>The bomb that went off this afternoon in <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43126" class="external" target="_blank">Bab al-Murad market in front of Imam Mousa al-Kadhim’s shrine in Kadhimiya</a>, killed one civilian and wounded three others. (Mohammed Ibn Laith))</p> <p>The American invaders announced that <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43176" class="external" target="_blank">9 of their American invader troops have been killed and 3 wounded</a>.<strong> Of the 3346 American invaders killed since the invasion led by the United States in March in March 2003, 99 were killed since the beginning of the month of April until today.</strong> (Mohammed Ibn Laith)</p> <p>An American invader mechanised patrol has been <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43160" class="external" target="_blank">bombed near the Unity bridge, Fallujah, a green zone government soldier was killed by a sniper</a> in Al-Mutasim. </p> <p>Patrols of the U.S. invader army went through Fallujah this afternoon putting up poster on the walls of buildings, residential houses, shops and markets inviting Fallujah residents to volunteer for the green zone government ”army.” There have been <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43145" class="external" target="_blank">repeated attacks including suicide bomber attacks in Fallujah on the “volunteer centers”</a> which have resulted in the deaths of many people.  The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43123" class="external" target="_blank">American invader base in Saqlawiyah village</a> north of the city was subjected to its usual barrage of mortar fire. </p> <p><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43158" class="external" target="_blank">12 bodies have been found in Baqubah</a>. Four bodies were found in al-Tahrir neighbourhood, southern Baqubah, four others near Ezzat mosque in the northeastern part of the city, four other bodies were found in separate unspecified areas of the city. </p> <p>At least three resistance fighters were killed and eight  green zone government policemen were wounded in eight in <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43113" class="external" target="_blank">northern Baqubah</a> this morning. </p> <p>A failed assasination attempt in Baqubah on a green zone government <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43113" class="external" target="_blank">army officer left him seriously wound and his mother and son dead</a>. </p> <p>the fighting between American invaders and gunmen resisting the American invasion of Irak <em><strong>in al Wahdah</strong></em> in <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43102" class="external" target="_blank">Diwaniyah the capital of Ad Diwaniyah governorate killed one civilian and wounded several others</a> as they were caught in the crossfire. (Mohammed Ibn Laith) The students are protesting the brutal behaviour of the “security” service run by the University president and his inefficiency in running the institution. Students are regularly attacked by the “security” service. Who they say contain terrorist elements, they say that the situation is becoming disastrous . The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43112" class="external" target="_blank">business faculty students are a particular target</a> for obvious reasons.(markfromireland) </p> <p>The bombing of a car on the main road <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43117" class="external" target="_blank">35 kilometres west of Kirkuk</a> seriously wounded the green zone government soldier driving it. The Katyusha attacks in Kirkuk caused <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43108" class="external" target="_blank">material damage only. The kidnapped students</a> were freed.</p> <p>In Mosul <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43154" class="external" target="_blank">Abdullah Wahsh a former senior military inteligence officer</a> was shot dead near his home in south-east  Mosul. Also <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43133" class="external" target="_blank">in Mosul an armed group stormed a house in al-Hadbaa</a>a neighbourhood in the northern part of the city late on Friday and opened fire at the family livingf there. Two family members were killed immediately and four others were wounded. The four wounded were taken to a nearby hospital where two of them died this morning. (The consulate building in Qublat Al-Imam Al-Hussein) </li> <li>The governorate’s governor’s residence. </li> <li>Various government buildings.</li> </ol> <p>They are anticipating violent protests in the wake of the second major bombing in Karbala this month. </p> <p><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130213212814/http://www.aswataliraq.info/print.php?sid=43175" class="external" target="_blank">There are crowds on the streets chanting slogans against the local (provincial/governorate) government</a>. They are protesting that this is the <em><strong>second incident of its kind in two weeks</strong></em> the car bomb that exploded in front of the bus station and market  (750 m west of Imam Hussein’s shrine) 47 people and wounded 224.</p> <p><strong>Ayatollah Mohamed Taqi Al-Madrasi</strong> has issued a statement condemning the bombing and calling on the citizenry of Karbala to: </p>
