justify;">Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI) is the oldest of all the Tribal Research Institutes (TRI) in the country. The institute in its present nomenclature has witnessed many evolutionary changes during an illustrious journey of 66 years. Started as Tribal Research Bureau (TRB) in 1952 and then rechristened as Tribal and Harijan Research-cum-Training Institute (THRTI) in 1972. In 1994 it was renamed as Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute. Prior to that, this Institute was conferred with the status of "Heads of Department" by Govt. of Odisha in the year 1980.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">The broad objective of this Institute is to carry out empirical studies on various thrust areas pertaining to tribal development, evaluation of various ongoing tribal development programs of both Government of India and Government of Odisha and formulation of perspective plan for tribal development. It also does documentation on various social and cultural issues of tribal culture including monographic studies. One of its priority areas of research has been the ethnic studies of various communities who claim for inclusion in the ST list and submit its recommendations to Government of India through the State Government. Besides, the institute serve as a centre for providing data and advisory services to Government on the problems of the Scheduled Tribes and the Scheduled Castes on a periodic basis and also as and when asked for. This Institute also conducts Training, Seminars & Workshops for different Government and Non-Government functionaries concerned with Tribal Development which includes PRI functionaries belonging to the ST category, Tribal youths, Tribal SHG Members and teachers belonging to the schools which are under the administrative control of the ST & SC Development Department.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">SCSTRTI has been conferred the Nodal TRI Status by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MQTA), Government of India in 2008-09. In 2014, this Institute was recognized as a National Resource Centre by MoTA, Gol for matters relating to implementation of FRA. The key objective of the NRC is to function as the "National Knowledge Hub and Technical Arm of MoTA" to address the capacity and knowledge gap in tribal development and implementing FRA. Considering the outstanding contributions of this Institute in various fields of activities, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), Government of India has approved the institution of setting up of National Tribal Research Center (NTRC) as an autonomous entity within this Institute in 2016. Registration of this NTRC has been done in the mean time and all efforts are onto make this functional.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">SCSTRTI has collaborations with various national and international research organizations and has been working in a number of projects for the past three decades. Some of the notable organizations with which this institute has collaborations are UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, DFID, World Bank, UNESCO, IGRMS Bhopal and so on. This institute also provides technical support and advisory support to a large number of TRis and also other research institutions as and when asked for on a host of issues pertaining to tribal development.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">This Institute, inside its campus houses Odisha State Tribal Museum, PVTG Gallery, Replicas of Tribal houses, Library with rich stocks of books & journals and reading room facility, Tribal food court and a Souvenir shop. The exhibit of the Tribal Museum has excellent collections of more than 3500 rare and exotic tribal arts, crafts and artifacts, which are artistic indicating different ingredients of cultural interests. The mission of the Museum helps support the conservation of tribal material culture and its changing facet refers to various activities like documentation and live demonstration by tribal artists and craftsmen, Skill development programme, National Tribal Craft Mela and National Tribal Dance Festival etc.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">I am delighted to note that an attempt has been made through this publication to bring the multidimensional activities of this Institute into limelight which must draw the attention of stake holders to associate themselves with the Institute in many
