The cruise starts from the Boat Club. From there your boat cruises to the mouth of the Santubong River, where Irrawaddy dolphins are often spotted. Your boat then roams the mangrove-lined rivers looking for wildlife. As the light starts to fade, we go in search of the rare proboscis monkey. Small groups are often seen in the treetops at the water edge, settling down for the night. As dusk arrives we search for fireflies and crocodiles. After the conservation works, proceed for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing the journey to Semenggoh Nature Reserve.<br><br> Semenggoh is known as the best place in Sarawak to view semi-wild orangutans who have been rescued from captivity and trained to survive in the surrounding forest reserve. Note : Though not obliged, it is advised that you leave your high tech shoes behind as the mixed terrain (mud, roots, bamboo bridges and slippery rocks) will be endured in the days to come. <br><br> Another 35 minutes drive will have you end up at the gates of the Bengoh Dam. Flooded just over 2 years ago, this water catchment was built as a water reserve for Kuching and its surrounding area. Water based activities in this manmade lake is to be kept at its most minimal in order to reduce, the impact of the water pollution. <br><br> A 15 minutes boat ride across this magnificent lake will glide you through lush through lush greenery of hilly and mountainous backdrop until we reach the foothills of Kampung Sting (a resettled Bidayuh Village). It is here you will alight from the boat carrying your own backpack for a 30 minutes walk (depending on fitness level) uphill. At the end of your climb, you will then be generously rewarded by the breathtaking view of the Bengoh Dam when you reach your homestay. After breakfast, get ready for a day fun filled with adventure as you prepare yourself for a days hike to the majestic falls of Kling and Susung. This walk brings you through lush secondary forests, fruit orchards, cocoa and pepper plantations. You will also see how the villages are powered when you pass underground rivers and small waterfalls along the way. A walk across the bamboo bridge suspended by 2 steel braided cables will put you to the rest (if you are afraid of heights). The first waterfall to arrive is the 3 tiered Kling curtain falls.. Take a dip in the cooling waters as your guide prepares lunch. of Sarawak’s fascinating wildlife. The cruise starts from the Boat Club. From there your boat cruises to the mouth of the Santubong River, where Irrawaddy dolphins are often spotted. Your boat then roams the mangrove-lined rivers looking for wildlife. As the light starts to fade, we go in search of the rare proboscis monkey. Small groups are often seen in the treetops at the water edge, settling down for the night. As dusk arrives we search for fireflies and crocodiles. Crocodiles are often seen on the mud banks and brightly shining crocodile eyes can be spotted when a torch light is passed over the river. After searching for crocodiles your boat proceeds further up river where fireflies gather at night. Watch the fireflies move around the branches of the mangroves, momentarily lighting up the night sky.</p> <p>Return to hotel after tour ended. Return via the golden-domed City Mosque and through Old Kuching, passing the Gambier Street with spice dealers and textile shops. Pass by the heritage buildings of the White Rajah era, the Pavilion, the Square Tower, the Court House, the Charles Brooke Monument and the Post Office. Free and easy for the rest of the day.</p> <h2>DAY 3</h2> <p><b>Heart to Heart Program with Orangutan</b></p> <p><b>(0800hrs – 1700hrs / Daytrip)</b></p> <p>This unique initiative allows the public to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faces and to actively participate in orangutan conservation by compressing a variety of education and conservation activities into a single day. It is ideal for associations and corporate groups, as well as families with older children. Participants learn from a dedicated team of Sarawak Forestry experts about the challenges of orangutan rehabilitation, get to work hands-on performing everyday conservation activities at Matang Wildlife Centre. After the conservation works, proceed for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing the journey to Semenggoh Nature Reserve.</p> <p>Semenggoh is known as the best place in Sarawak to view semi-wild orangutans who have been rescued from captivity and trained to survive in the surrounding forest reserve. The rehabilitated animals roam freely in the rainforest and often return to the centre at feeding time. There is a good possibility of experiencing one of the most heartwarming sights in Borneo – an orangutan mother with a young baby.</p> <p>Arrive at hotel. Free and easy at own leisure. <b>(L)</b></p> <p> </p> <h2>DAY 4</h2> <p><b>3 Days 2 Nights </b><b>Bengoh</b><b> Valley (1230hrs)</b></p> <p><b>Day </b><b>01</b><b>: </b>Depart from hotel, the drive will be to the small township of Padawan where you will be brought by your guide to hunt for a new pair of hiking shoes (the locally acclaimed legendary rubber shoes). <i>Note : Though not obliged, it is advised that you leave your high tech shoes behind as the mixed terrain (mud, roots, bamboo bridges and slippery rocks) will be endured in the days to come. </i></p> <p>Another 35 minutes drive will have you end up at the gates of the Bengoh Dam. Flooded just over 2 years ago, this water catchment was built as a water reserve for Kuching and its surrounding area. Water based activities in this manmade lake is to be kept at its most minimal in order to reduce, the impact of the water pollution.</p> <p>A 15 minutes boat ride across this magnificent lake will glide you through lush through lush greenery of hilly and mountainous backdrop until we reach the foothills of Kampung Sting (a resettled Bidayuh Village). It is here you will alight from the boat carrying your own backpack for a 30 minutes walk (depending on fitness level) uphill. At the end of your climb, you will then be generously rewarded by the breathtaking view of the Bengoh Dam when you reach your homestay. Check in, rest, relax and enjoy the setting sun as it slowly disappears behind the mountains. Dinner will be served.</p> <p>Overnight with basic amenities at the homestay. <b>(D)</b></p> <p> </p> <h2><strong>DAY 5</strong></h2> <p><b>3 Days 2 Nights </b><b>Bengoh</b><b> Valley</b></p> <p><b>Day 02: </b>Wake up to the crowing of a multitude of cocks from villages near and far. Before sunrise, catch a glimpse of Bengoh Lake covered by a blanket of clouds ( weather dependent). After breakfast, get ready for a day fun filled with adventure as you prepare yourself for a days hike to the majestic falls of Kling and Susung. This walk brings you through lush secondary forests, fruit orchards, cocoa and pepper plantations. You will also see how the villages are powered when you pass underground rivers and small waterfalls along the way. A walk across the bamboo bridge suspended by 2 steel braided cables will put you to the rest (if you are afraid of heights). The first waterfall to arrive is the 3 tiered Kling curtain falls.. Take a dip in the cooling waters as your guide prepares lunch. After lunch, proceed to the thunderous falls of Susung for a phot session or another deep at the nearby pools (time allowing) <i>Note </i><i>: Activities directly under </i><i>Susung</i><i> Waterfall is not allowed due to its magnitude and powerful water pressure.</i></p> <p>Return hike to your homestay later in the afternoon. Bako’s most famous residents are the bizarre proboscis monkeys. It is also home to the silvered langurs (leaf monkey), long-tailed macaque monkeys, bearded pigs, flying lemurs, monitor lizards as well as many different bird species. Fascinating plant life includes the mangroves, a system onto itself. There are also the strangling fig trees, carnivorous pitcher plants and symbiotic insect-plant relationships. Unique geological features mark the coastline, whilst well-marked trails lead to rugged jungle-covered hilltops and secluded beaches.</p> <p>Return to hotel after tour ended.
