How to Use</h3> <p>Search Bar is at the top of every page. Find a lake among six hundred lakes by the [<strong>Lake Name</strong>] or the [<strong>Lake Contry</strong>] (riparian country). You can also reach categorical data files through [<strong>Data List</strong>]. On the Lake Code</h3> <p>Previously some lakes had the "S-" prefix such as SAFR-***, SASI-***, SEUR-***, SNAM-***, and SSAM-***. This has been removed and the corresponding trailing number is set greater than 200.   No alteration to the lake code for the initially-registered lakes has been made and you can distinguish those by their two digit trailing number. If any references to this database is set by using lake codes, please update those accordingly.</p> <h3>3. Precursor of the World Lake Database</h3> <p>In 1994 scientific and socio-economic data on the environments of 217 lakes and reservoirs in 73 countries have been compiled into five volumes of <strong>the Survey of the State of World Lakes (WLDBook)</strong> out of a joint ILEC/UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) project.   <span><a href="Foreword">(Foreword to the WLDBook)</a></span>   Later the data became available on our web site in the form of html documents. Subsequently in the current web application, most of the data (A~J) are packed into individual files and made searcheable. Currently about six hundred lakes are registered.
