These impacts can be on Indigenous populations and the way nature supports human livelihoods, which includes impairing biodiversity.  </p><p>Our sourcing teams, suppliers and designers are empowered to drive progress on our commitments and their work is aligned with our values. Our guests’ needs play a part in helping us choose which products we focus our sustainability and sourcing efforts on and whether we leverage our impact through our owned brands or national brands. </p><p>We have assessed the environmental risks of our owned brands at the source level for cotton, forest products, palm oil and seafood<sup>1</sup>, which has led us to develop our current policies and commitments around these four raw materials in our owned brands. We are also evaluating, in a similar fashion, other key raw materials. We recognize the need for a full view of how our owned brand products may create strain or benefits for the planet and people, and thus we are evaluating and developing better impact metrics across the product lifecycle. To mitigate the environmental and social impacts of our raw material sourcing with any one country or region, we also work to establish geographical diversification and resiliency of our sourcing regions. </p><p>Reporting on our progress toward these raw material commitments keeps us accountable and transparent, and internal efforts to increase material awareness within owned brand merchandising systems and applications enables us to better monitor our progress throughout the year at a product, brand and vendor level. We are also a proud member of multiple external partnerships that focus on driving innovation and transparency around how key resources are grown, sourced and produced.</p><h2>Policies and commitments</h2><h3>Cotton</h3><p>We use cotton in many of our products, and we know that cotton farming plays a major role in the economic well-being of communities around the world. That’s why we’re committed to sourcing cotton more sustainably for our owned brand and exclusive national brand products and introduced a cotton commitment in 2017 to help guide the way. In 2023, we increased the amount of recycled cotton in our owned brand products and continued to support the adoption of more sustainable production practices through our participation in <a href="https://bettercotton.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Better Cotton</a> and the <a href="https://trustuscotton.org/u-s-cotton-trust-protocol-awarded-usda-grant-for-u-s-cotton-smart-commodity-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol’s Climate Smart Commodities Project</a>. While we are making significant progress on our goal, we are facing data measurement limitations and will continue to provide progress updates in the future.
