of wax containing policosanol (PC), the cholesterol-lowering nutraceutical available in the market. The processing of rice bran oil causes the loss of PC content into various waste products. Therefore, we hypothesise that defatted rice bran (DRB) as agricultural waste product and rice bran oil (RBO) retain a varying but significant amount of PC wax. Non-centrifugal cane sugar (NCS) or cane brown sugar has been consumed worldwide and possesses various health benefits. Since PC wax is mainly in the outer layer rinds of cane, PC contents of the granulated sugar are reduced due to the peeling step. The study aimed to increase PC contents of the granular brown sugar by adding wax extracted from DRB and RBO and to investigate the toxicity of the developed products. The results showed that the total PC contents including long chain aldehyde of products were increased to the maximum level of 147.97 mg/100 g and 40.14 mg/100 g for extracted wax and rice bran oil addition, respectively. PC content of RBO was found to be 96.93 mg/100 g. DRB is promising source of policosanol (6,044.7 mg/100 g). The 28-day toxicity evaluations of the developed sugar revealed no adverse effects on the liver, spleen or kidney. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=enrichment" title="enrichment">enrichment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sugarcane" title=" sugarcane"> sugarcane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=policosanol" title=" policosanol"> policosanol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=defatted%20rice%20bran" title=" defatted rice bran"> defatted rice bran</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wax" title=" wax"> wax</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54229/rice-bran-material-enrichment-of-granulated-cane-brown-sugar-to-increase-policosanol-contents" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54229.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">372</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> Determination of Neighbor Node in Consideration of the Imaging Range of Cameras in Automatic Human Tracking System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kozo%20Tanigawa">Kozo Tanigawa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tappei%20Yotsumoto"> Tappei Yotsumoto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kenichi%20Takahashi"> Kenichi Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takao%20Kawamura"> Takao Kawamura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kazunori%20Sugahara"> Kazunori Sugahara</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An automatic human tracking system using mobile agent technology is realized because a mobile agent moves in accordance with a migration of a target person. As well known, the huge earthquake in Japan 2011 induced a huge tsunami and the tsunami caused serious damage in the Tohoku and Kanto area. Although breakwaters were constructed in the coast to suppress the tsunami, these were collapsed, and it resulted in severe disasters. In order to decrease the tsunami disaster, we propose the submerged breakwaters and investigate its effect on the tsunami behavior by means of numerical simulations. In order to reproduce tsunami and capture its interface, we employed a moving particle method which is one of the Lagragian methods. Different from ordinary breakwaters, the present breakwater is located in the under-sea. An effective installation condition is investigated by the parametric study. The results show that the submerged breakwater can decrease the wave force by the tsunami. Moreover, the combination of two submerged breakwaters can reduce the tsunami safely and effectively. Therefore, the present results give the effective condition of the installation of the under-sea breakwaters and its mechanism. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coastal%20area" title="coastal area">coastal area</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tsunami%20force%20reduction" title=" tsunami force reduction"> tsunami force reduction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MPS%20method" title=" MPS method"> MPS method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=submerged%20breakwater" title=" submerged breakwater"> submerged breakwater</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88772/numerical-investigation-on-tsunami-suppression-by-submerged-breakwater" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88772.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">164</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> Research on Reflectors for Detecting Fishing Nets with Synthetic Aperture Radar Satellites</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Toshiyuki%20Miyazaki">Toshiyuki Miyazaki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fumihiro%20Takahashi"> Fumihiro Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takashi%20Hosokawa"> Takashi Hosokawa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fishing nets and floating buoys used in fishing can be washed away by typhoons and storms. A hybrid approach combining machine learning and constraint programming is developed to generate schedules and the corresponding factors, and accordingly display them on the user interface. Effects of the proposed system on scheduling are discussed, and it is expected that scheduling efficiency and system understandability will be improved, compared with previous scheduling systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constraint%20programming" title="constraint programming">constraint programming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=factors%20considered%20in%20scheduling" title=" factors considered in scheduling"> factors considered in scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scheduling%20system" title=" scheduling system"> scheduling system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43995/towards-developing-a-self-explanatory-scheduling-system-based-on-a-hybrid-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43995.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">324</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">38</span> Ultraviolet Lasing from Vertically-Aligned ZnO Nanowall Array</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Masahiro%20Takahashi">Masahiro Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kosuke%20Harada"> Kosuke Harada</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shihomi%20Nakao"> Shihomi Nakao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mitsuhiro%20Higashihata"> Mitsuhiro Higashihata</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hiroshi%20Ikenoue"> Hiroshi Ikenoue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daisuke%20Nakamura"> Daisuke Nakamura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tatsuo%20Okada"> Tatsuo Okada</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Zinc oxide (ZnO) is one of the light emitting materials in ultraviolet (UV) region. In addition, ZnO nanostructures are also attracting increasing research interest as building blocks for UV optoelectronic applications. We have succeeded in synthesizing vertically-aligned ZnO nanostructures by laser interference patterning, which is catalyst-free and non-contact technique. In this study, vertically-aligned ZnO nanowall arrays were synthesized using two-beam interference. The maximum height and average thickness of the ZnO nanowalls were about 4.5 µm and 200 nm, respectively. UV lasing from a piece of the ZnO nanowall was obtained under the third harmonic of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser excitation, and the estimated threshold power density for lasing was about 150 kW/cm2. Furthermore, UV lasing from the vertically-aligned ZnO nanowall was also achieved. The results indicate that ZnO nanowalls can be applied to random laser. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zinc%20oxide" title="zinc oxide">zinc oxide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanowall" title=" nanowall"> nanowall</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interference%20laser" title=" interference laser"> interference laser</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=UV%20lasing" title=" UV lasing"> UV lasing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23913/ultraviolet-lasing-from-vertically-aligned-zno-nanowall-array" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23913.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">504</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Development of Electroencephalograph Collection System in Language-Learning Self-Study System That Can Detect Learning State of the Learner</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katsuyuki%20Umezawa">Katsuyuki Umezawa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Makoto%20Nakazawa"> Makoto Nakazawa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manabu%20Kobayashi"> Manabu Kobayashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yutaka%20Ishii"> Yutaka Ishii</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michiko%20Nakano"> Michiko Nakano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shigeichi%20Hirasawa"> Shigeichi Hirasawa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research aims to develop a self-study system equipped with an artificial teacher who gives advice to students by detecting the learners and to evaluate language learning in a unified framework. 'Detecting the learners' means that the system understands the learners' learning conditions, such as each learner’s degree of understanding, the difference in each learner’s thinking process, the degree of concentration or boredom in learning, and problem solving for each learner, which can be interpreted from learning behavior. In this paper, we propose a system to efficiently collect brain waves from learners by focusing on only the brain waves among the biological information for 'detecting the learners'. The conventional Electroencephalograph (EEG) measurement method during learning using a simple EEG has the following disadvantages. (1) The start and end of EEG measurement must be done manually by the experiment participant or staff. (2) Even when the EEG signal is weak, it may not be noticed, and the data may not be obtained. (3) Since the acquired EEG data is stored in each PC, there is a possibility that the time of data acquisition will be different in each PC. This time, we developed a system to collect brain wave data on the server side. This system overcame the above disadvantages. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20teacher" title="artificial teacher">artificial teacher</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=e-learning" title=" e-learning"> e-learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-study%20system" title=" self-study system"> self-study system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simple%20EEG" title=" simple EEG"> simple EEG</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123258/development-of-electroencephalograph-collection-system-in-language-learning-self-study-system-that-can-detect-learning-state-of-the-learner" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123258.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">145</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> LaPEA: Language for Preprocessing of Edge Applications in Smart Factory</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Masaki%20Sakai">Masaki Sakai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tsuyoshi%20Nakajima"> Tsuyoshi Nakajima</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kazuya%20Takahashi"> Kazuya Takahashi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to improve the productivity of a factory, it is often the case to create an inference model by collecting and analyzing operational data off-line and then to develop an edge application (EAP) that evaluates the quality of the products or diagnoses machine faults in real-time. To accelerate this development cycle, an edge application framework for the smart factory is proposed, which enables to create and modify EAPs based on prepared inference models. In the framework, the preprocessing component is the key part to make it work. In order to confirm if white-color LED torches can be used as light sources for popular sunset color demonstrations in spite of such differences, spectra of travelled light beams and scattered light beams with each of a white-color LED torch (composed of a blue LED and yellow-color fluorescent material) and a conventional electric torch as a light source were measured and compared with each other in a 50 cm-long water tank for sunset color demonstration experiments. Suspension liquid was prepared from acryl-emulsion and tap-water in the water tank, and light beams from the white-color LED torch or the conventional electric torch were allowed to travel in this suspension liquid. Sunset-like color was actually observed when the white-color LED torch was used as the light source in sunset color demonstrations. However, the observed colors when viewed with naked eye look slightly different from those obtainable with the conventional electric torch. At the same time, with the white-color LED, changes in colors in short to middle wavelength regions were recognized with careful observations. From those results, white-color LED torches are confirmed to be applicable as light sources in sunset color demonstrations, although certain attentions have to be paid. Further advanced classes will be successfully performed with white-color LED torches as light sources. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blue%20sky%20demonstration" title="blue sky demonstration">blue sky demonstration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sunset%20color%20demonstration" title=" sunset color demonstration"> sunset color demonstration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=white%20LED%20torch" title=" white LED torch"> white LED torch</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physics%20education" title=" physics education"> physics education</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47625/spectra-analysis-in-sunset-color-demonstrations-with-a-white-color-led-as-a-light-source" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47625.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">284</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">34</span> Reproducibility of Dopamine Transporter Density Measured with I-123-N-ω-Fluoropropyl-2β-Carbomethoxy-3β-(4-Iodophenyl)Nortropane SPECT in Phantom Studies and Parkinson’s Disease Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasuyuki%20Takahashi">Yasuyuki Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Genta%20Hoshi"> Genta Hoshi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyoko%20Saito"> Kyoko Saito</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the reproducibility of I-123-N-ω-fluoropropyl-2β-carbomethoxy-3β-(4- iodophenyl) nortropane (I-123 FP-CIT) SPECT by using specific binding ratio (SBR) in phantom studies and Parkinson’s Disease (PD) patients. Thus, the time-activity curve (TAC) derived from the dynamic SPECT is relatively coarse. In order to effectively shorten the interval, between data points, we adopted a 180-degree interpolation method. This method is already used for reconstruction of the X-ray CT data. In this study, we applied this 180-degree interpolation method to SPECT and investigated its effectiveness. To briefly describe the 180-degree interpolation method: the 180-degree data in the second half of one rotation are combined with the 180-degree data in the first half of the next rotation to generate a 360-degree data set appropriate for the time halfway between the first and second rotations. In both a phantom and a patient study, the data points from the interpolated images fell in good agreement with the data points tracking the accumulation of 99mTc activity over time for appropriate region of interest. We conclude that data derived from interpolated images improves the apparent time resolution of dynamic SPECT. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20SPECT" title="dynamic SPECT">dynamic SPECT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time%20resolution" title=" time resolution"> time resolution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=180-degree%20interpolation%20method" title=" 180-degree interpolation method"> 180-degree interpolation method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=99mTc-GSA." title=" 99mTc-GSA."> 99mTc-GSA.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12762/increasing-the-apparent-time-resolution-of-tc-99m-diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic-acid-galactosyl-human-serum-albumin-dynamic-spect-by-use-of-an-180-degree-interpolation-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12762.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">493</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Widely Diversified Macroeconomies in the Super-Long Run Casts a Doubt on Path-Independent Equilibrium Growth Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ichiro%20Takahashi">Ichiro Takahashi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> One of the major assumptions of mainstream macroeconomics is the path independence of capital stock. This paper challenges this assumption by employing an agent-based approach. The simulation results showed the existence of multiple "quasi-steady state" equilibria of the capital stock, which may cast serious doubt on the validity of the assumption. The finding would give a better understanding of many phenomena that involve hysteresis, including the causes of poverty. The "market-clearing view" has been widely shared among major schools of macroeconomics. They understand that the capital stock, the labor force, and technology, determine the "full-employment" equilibrium growth path and demand/supply shocks can move the economy away from the path only temporarily: the dichotomy between the short-run business cycles and the long-run equilibrium path. The view then implicitly assumes the long-run capital stock to be independent of how the economy has evolved. In contrast, "Old Keynesians" have recognized fluctuations in output as arising largely from fluctuations in real aggregate demand. It will then be an interesting question to ask if an agent-based macroeconomic model, which is known to have path dependence, can generate multiple full-employment equilibrium trajectories of the capital stock in the super-long run. If the answer is yes, the equilibrium level of capital stock, an important supply-side factor, would no longer be independent of the business cycle phenomenon. This paper attempts to answer the above question by using the agent-based macroeconomic model developed by Takahashi and Okada (2010). The model would serve this purpose well because it has neither population growth nor technology progress. The objective of the paper is twofold: (1) to explore the causes of long-term business cycle, and (2) to examine the super-long behaviors of the capital stock of full-employment economies. (1) The simulated behaviors of the key macroeconomic variables such as output, employment, real wages showed widely diversified macro-economies. They were often remarkably stable but exhibited both short-term and long-term fluctuations. The long-term fluctuations occur through the following two adjustments: the quantity and relative cost adjustments of capital stock. The first one is obvious and assumed by many business cycle theorists. The reduced aggregate demand lowers prices, which raises real wages, thereby decreasing the relative cost of capital stock with respect to labor. (2) The long-term business cycles/fluctuations were synthesized with the hysteresis of real wages, interest rates, and investments. In particular, a sequence of the simulation runs with a super-long simulation period generated a wide range of perfectly stable paths, many of which achieved full employment: all the macroeconomic trajectories, including capital stock, output, and employment, were perfectly horizontal over 100,000 periods. Moreover, the full-employment level of capital stock was influenced by the history of unemployment, which was itself path-dependent. Thus, an experience of severe unemployment in the past kept the real wage low, which discouraged a relatively costly investment in capital stock. Meanwhile, a history of good performance sometimes brought about a low capital stock due to a high-interest rate that was consistent with a strong investment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agent-based%20macroeconomic%20model" title="agent-based macroeconomic model">agent-based macroeconomic model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20cycle" title=" business cycle"> business cycle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hysteresis" title=" hysteresis"> hysteresis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stability" title=" stability"> stability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136233/widely-diversified-macroeconomies-in-the-super-long-run-casts-a-doubt-on-path-independent-equilibrium-growth-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136233.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">210</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Optimal Design of RC Pier Accompanied with Multi Sliding Friction Damping Mechanism Using Combination of SNOPT and ANN Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Angga%20S.%20Fajar">Angga S. The mirror and electrode layers are fabricated separately and assembled thereafter. The alignment is performed by dowel pin-hole pairs fabricated on the respective layers. The electrodes are formed on the surface of the electrode layer by Au ion sputtering using a suitable mask, which is also fabricated by a 3D-printer.For grounding the mirror layer, except the contact area with the electrode paths, all the surface is Au ion sputtered. 3D-printers are widely used for creating 3D models or mock-ups. The authors have recently proposed that these models can perform electromechanical functions such as actuators by suitably masking them followed by metallization process. Since the smallest possible fabrication size is in the order of sub-millimeters, these electromechanical devices are named by the authors as SMEMS (Sub-Milli Electro-Mechanical Systems) devices. The proposed mirror described in this paper which consists of parallel-plate electrostatic actuators is also one type of SMEMS devices. In addition, SMEMS is totally environment-clean compared to MEMS (Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems) fabrication processes because any hazardous chemicals or gases are utilized. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MEMS" title="MEMS">MEMS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parallel-plate%20mirror" title=" parallel-plate mirror"> parallel-plate mirror</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SMEMS" title=" SMEMS"> SMEMS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D-printer" title=" 3D-printer"> 3D-printer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5014/design-and-fabrication-of-an-electrostatically-actuated-parallel-plate-mirror-by-3d-printer" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5014.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">437</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Bioactive Compounds Derived from Thunbergia laurifolia Aqueous Leave Extract </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marasri%20Junsi">Marasri Junsi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sunisa%20Siripongvutikorn"> Sunisa Siripongvutikorn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chutha%20Takahashi%20Yupanqui"> Chutha Takahashi Yupanqui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Worrapong%20Usawakesmanee"> Worrapong Usawakesmanee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Thunbergia laurifolia has been used for folklore medicine purposes and consumed in the form of herbal tea in Thailand since ancient times. Data volumes are very rapidly growing, as it is postulated that more than one billion bases will be produced per year in 2020. The growth rate of produced data is much faster than Moore's law in computer technology. This makes it more difficult to deal with genomics data, such as storing data, searching information, and finding the hidden information. It is required to develop the analysis platform for genomics big data. Cloud computing newly developed enables us to deal with big data more efficiently. Hadoop is one of the frameworks distributed computing and relies upon the core of a Big Data as a Service (BDaaS). Although many services have adopted this technology, e.g. amazon, there are a few applications in the biology field. Here, we propose a new algorithm to more efficiently deal with the genomics big data, e.g. sequencing data. Our algorithm consists of two parts: First is that BDaaS is applied for handling the data more efficiently. Second is that the hybrid method of MapReduce and Fuzzy logic is applied for data processing. This step can be parallelized in implementation. Our algorithm has great potential in computational analysis of genomics big data, e.g. de novo genome assembly and sequence similarity search. We will discuss our algorithm and its feasibility. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=big%20data" title="big data">big data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20logic" title=" fuzzy logic"> fuzzy logic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MapReduce" title=" MapReduce"> MapReduce</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hadoop" title=" Hadoop"> Hadoop</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cloud%20computing" title=" cloud computing"> cloud computing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52852/analysis-of-genomics-big-data-in-cloud-computing-using-fuzzy-logic" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52852.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">299</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> Prolonged Synthesis of Chitin Polysaccharide from Chlorovirus System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Numfon%20Rakkhumkaew">Numfon Rakkhumkaew</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takeru%20Kawasaki"> Takeru Kawasaki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Makoto%20Fujie"> Makoto Fujie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takashi%20Yamada"> Takashi Yamada</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Chlorella viruses or chloroviruses contain a gene that encodes a function for chitin synthesis, which is expressed early in viral infection to produce chitin polysaccharide, a polymer of β-1, 4-linked GlcNAc, on the outside of Chlorella cell wall. Interestingly, chlorovirus system is an eco-friendly system which converses CO2 and solar energy from the environment into useful materials. However, infected Chlorella cells are lysed at the final stage of viral infection, and this phenomenon is caused the breaking down of polysaccharide. To postpone the lysing period and prolong the synthesis of chitin polysaccharide on cells, the slow growing virus incorporated with aphidicolin treatment, an inhibitor of DNA synthesis, was investigated. In this study, a total of 25 virus isolates from water samples in Japan region were analyzed for CHS (the gene for CH synthase) gene by PCR (polymerase chain reaction). The accumulation and appearance of chitin polysaccharide on infected cells were detected by biotinylated chitin-binding proteins WGA (wheat germ agglutinin)-biotin for chitin in conjunction with avidin-Cy 2 or Cy 3 and investigated by fluorescence microscopy, observed as green or yellow fluorescence over the cell surface. Among all chlorovirus isolates, cells infected with CNF1 revealed the accumulation of chitin over the cell surface within 30 min p.i. and continued to accumulate on cells until 4 h p.i. before cell lyses which was 1.6 times longer accumulation period than cells infected with CVK2 (prototype virus). Furthermore, addition of aphidicolin could extend the chitin accumulation on cells infected with CNF1 until 8 h p.i. before cell lyses. Whereas, CVK2-infected cells treated with aphidicolin could prolong the chitin synthesis only for 6 h p.i. before cell lyses. Therefore, chitin synthesis by Chlorella-virus system could be prolonged by using slow-growing viral isolates and with aphidicolin. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chitin" title="chitin">chitin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chlorovirus" title=" chlorovirus"> chlorovirus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chlorella%20virus" title=" Chlorella virus"> Chlorella virus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aphidicolin" title=" aphidicolin"> aphidicolin</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62183/prolonged-synthesis-of-chitin-polysaccharide-from-chlorovirus-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62183.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">213</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25</span> Mechanical Properties and Chloride Diffusion of Ceramic Waste Aggregate Mortar Containing Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Higashiyama">H. In this study, to develop the CWA mortar as an eco–efficient, ground granulated blast–furnace slag (GGBS) as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) was incorporated. The water–to–binder ratio (W/B) of the CWA mortars was varied at 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6. The cement of the CWA mortar was replaced by GGBS at 20 and 40% by volume (at about 18 and 37% by weight). Mechanical properties of compressive and splitting tensile strengths, and elastic modulus were evaluated at the age of 7, 28, and 91 days. Moreover, the chloride ingress test was carried out on the CWA mortars in a 5.0% NaCl solution for 48 weeks. The chloride diffusion was assessed by using an electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). To consider the relation of the apparent chloride diffusion coefficient and the pore size, the pore size distribution test was also performed using a mercury intrusion porosimetry at the same time with the EPMA. The compressive strength of the CWA mortars with the GGBS was higher than that without the GGBS at the age of 28 and 91 days. The resistance to the chloride ingress of the CWA mortar was effective in proportion to the GGBS replacement level. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ceramic%20waste%20aggregate" title="ceramic waste aggregate">ceramic waste aggregate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chloride%20diffusion" title=" chloride diffusion"> chloride diffusion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GGBS" title=" GGBS"> GGBS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pore%20size%20distribution" title=" pore size distribution"> pore size distribution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27099/mechanical-properties-and-chloride-diffusion-of-ceramic-waste-aggregate-mortar-containing-ground-granulated-blast-furnace-slag" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27099.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">344</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">24</span> Interpersonal Body-Synchronization in Young Children When Watching Video Together</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeko%20Takahashi">Saeko Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kazuo%20Hiraki"> Kazuo Hiraki</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Is it more fun to watch videos together than watching alone? Previous studies showed that synchronizing with others enhances subsequent prosocial behavior and affiliation, and conversely, prosocial individuals tend to coordinate with a partner to a greater extent. However, compared to adults, less is known about interpersonal coordination of young children in real-life situations because most studies have focused on children’s particular movement using specific tools or tasks in a laboratory setting. It has also been unclear if prosociality of young children affect the extent of interpersonal coordination within dyads. The present study examined data from motion capture of five body parts of 4-year-old dyads watching the same stimuli together or alone. A questionnaire survey including participants’ prosocial trait was also conducted. The wavelet coherence of each body parts within dyads was calculated as a measure of the extent of interpersonal coordination. Results showed that the dyads became significantly more coordinated in a social situation compared to a non-social situation. Moreover, dyads with averagely higher prosociality were more coordinated. These results shed some light on the development of interpersonal coordination in terms of social ability in young children. This study also offers a useful method for a study of spontaneous coordination in young children and infants without instructions or verbal responses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=child%20development" title="child development">child development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interpersonal%20coordination" title=" interpersonal coordination"> interpersonal coordination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=prosociality" title=" prosociality"> prosociality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synchrony" title=" synchrony"> synchrony</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wavelet%20transform" title=" wavelet transform"> wavelet transform</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117399/interpersonal-body-synchronization-in-young-children-when-watching-video-together" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117399.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">139</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Effect on Surface Temperature Reduction of Asphalt Pavements with Cement–Based Materials Containing Ceramic Waste Powder</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Higashiyama">H. This study proposes the structural system of RC pier accompanied with multi sliding friction damping mechanism to substitute the conventional system of pier together with bearing support. In this system, the pier has monolith behavior to the superstructure with flexible small deformation to accommodate thermal expansion of the superstructure. The flexible small deformation behavior is realized by adding the gap mechanism in the multi sliding friction devices form. The important performances of this system are sufficient lateral flexibility in small deformation, sufficient elastic deformation capacity, sufficient lateral force resistance, and sufficient energy dissipation. Numerical analysis performed for this system with fiber element model. It shows that the structural system has good performance not only under small deformation due to thermal expansion of the superstructure but also under seismic load. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RC%20Pier" title="RC Pier">RC Pier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20expansion" title=" thermal expansion"> thermal expansion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi%20sliding%20friction%20device" title=" multi sliding friction device"> multi sliding friction device</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexible%20small%20deformation" title=" flexible small deformation"> flexible small deformation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58179/the-structural-system-concept-of-reinforced-concrete-pier-accompanied-with-friction-device-plus-gap-in-numerical-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58179.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">308</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">21</span> Development of Nondestructive Imaging Analysis Method Using Muonic X-Ray with a Double-Sided Silicon Strip Detector</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=I-Huan%20Chiu">I-Huan Chiu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kazuhiko%20Ninomiya"> Kazuhiko Ninomiya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shin%E2%80%99ichiro%20Takeda"> Shin’ichiro Takeda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meito%20Kajino"> Meito Kajino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Miho%20Katsuragawa"> Miho Katsuragawa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shunsaku%20Nagasawa"> Shunsaku Nagasawa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Atsushi%20Shinohara"> Atsushi Shinohara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tadayuki%20Takahashi"> Tadayuki Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryota%20Tomaru"> Ryota Tomaru</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shin%20Watanabe"> Shin Watanabe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Goro%20Yabu"> Goro Yabu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In recent years, a nondestructive elemental analysis method based on muonic X-ray measurements has been developed and applied for various samples. Muonic X-rays are emitted after the formation of a muonic atom, which occurs when a negatively charged muon is captured in a muon atomic orbit around the nucleus. Because muonic X-rays have higher energy than electronic X-rays due to the muon mass, they can be measured without being absorbed by a material. Thus, estimating the two-dimensional (2D) elemental distribution of a sample became possible using an X-ray imaging detector. In this work, we report a non-destructive imaging experiment using muonic X-rays at Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex. The irradiated target consisted of polypropylene material, and a double-sided silicon strip detector, which was developed as an imaging detector for astronomical observation, was employed. A peak corresponding to muonic X-rays from the carbon atoms in the target was clearly observed in the energy spectrum at an energy of 14 keV, and 2D visualizations were successfully reconstructed to reveal the projection image from the target. This result demonstrates the potential of the non-destructive elemental imaging method that is based on muonic X-ray measurement. To obtain a higher position resolution for imaging a smaller target, a new detector system will be developed to improve the statistical analysis in further research. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DSSD" title="DSSD">DSSD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=muon" title=" muon"> muon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=muonic%20X-ray" title=" muonic X-ray"> muonic X-ray</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=imaging" title=" imaging"> imaging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-destructive%20analysis" title=" non-destructive analysis"> non-destructive analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137568/development-of-nondestructive-imaging-analysis-method-using-muonic-x-ray-with-a-double-sided-silicon-strip-detector" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137568.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">205</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">20</span> Use of Social Support for Fathers with Developmental Disabilities in Japan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shiori%20Ishida">Shiori Ishida</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hiromi%20Okuno"> Hiromi Okuno</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hisato%20Igarashi"> Hisato Igarashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akemi%20Yamazaki"> Akemi Yamazaki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hiroko%20Takahashi"> Hiroko Takahashi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this study was to clarify the differences and similarities regarding the social support of fathers and mothers towards considering increased assistance for the paternity of children with developmental disabilities. Written questionnaires were completed by fathers (n=85) and mothers (n=101) of children using rehabilitation facilities between infancy and 5 years of age. The survey contained multiple-choice questions on four categories: information support (6 items), emotional support (7 items), evaluation support (3 items), and daily living support (3 items). Regarding information support, fathers answered ‘spouse’ as the provider in over 50% of cases for all 6 items, which was significantly different compared with mothers (all p < 0.001). For emotional support, fathers were significantly more likely to get support from the workplace (p < 0.001) and from spouse (p < 0.001). The ‘evaluation support’ did not have significant differences for fathers in all the items, but the most frequent support providers were ‘spouses’. ‘Daily living support’ was significantly different from fathers in the workplace (p < 0.000) in terms of make allowances for work and duties. Thus, it appeared that fathers had fewer social support sources as compared with mothers and limited non-spouse support. The understanding of developmental disabilities, acquisition of methods of rehabilitation, and sources of support might have been inadequately addressed among fathers, which could be a hindrance to the involvement of fathers in the rearing of children with developmental disabilities. On the other hand, we also observed that some fathers were involved in the care of developmentally troubled children while providing mental support for their spouse, cooperating with housework, and adjusting their work life. However, the results on the external and social backgrounds of fathers indicated a necessity for greater empowerment and peer support to improve the paternal care of children with developmental disabilities in the family survey. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=children%20with%20developmental%20disabilities" title="children with developmental disabilities">children with developmental disabilities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=family%20support" title=" family support"> family support</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=father" title=" father"> father</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20support" title=" social support"> social support</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114583/use-of-social-support-for-fathers-with-developmental-disabilities-in-japan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114583.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">132</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19</span> Study of a Few Additional Posterior Projection Data to 180° Acquisition for Myocardial SPECT</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasuyuki%20Takahashi">Yasuyuki Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hirotaka%20Shimada"> Hirotaka Shimada</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takao%20Kanzaki"> Takao Kanzaki</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A Dual-detector SPECT system is widely by use of myocardial SPECT studies. With 180-degree (180°) acquisition, reconstructed images are distorted in the posterior wall of myocardium due to the lack of sufficient data of posterior projection. We hypothesized that quality of myocardial SPECT images can be improved by the addition of data acquisition of only a few posterior projections to ordinary 180° acquisition. The proposed acquisition method (180° plus acquisition methods) uses the dual-detector SPECT system with a pair of detector arranged in 90° perpendicular. Sampling angle was 5°, and the acquisition range was 180° from 45° right anterior oblique to 45° left posterior oblique. After the acquisition of 180°, the detector moved to additional acquisition position of reverse side once for 2 projections, twice for 4 projections, or 3 times for 6 projections. Since these acquisition methods cannot be done in the present system, actual data acquisition was done by 360° with a sampling angle of 5°, and projection data corresponding to above acquisition position were extracted for reconstruction. We underwent the phantom studies and a clinical study. SPECT images were compared by profile curve analysis and also quantitatively by contrast ratio. The distortion was improved by 180° plus method. Profile curve analysis showed increased of cardiac cavity. Analysis with contrast ratio revealed that SPECT images of the phantoms and the clinical study were improved from 180° acquisition by the present methods. The difference in the contrast was not clearly recognized between 180° plus 2 projections, 180° plus 4 projections, and 180° plus 6 projections. 180° plus 2 projections method may be feasible for myocardial SPECT because distortion of the image and the contrast were improved. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=180%C2%B0%20plus%20acquisition%20method" title="180° plus acquisition method">180° plus acquisition method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=a%20few%20posterior%20projections" title=" a few posterior projections"> a few posterior projections</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual-detector%20SPECT%20system" title=" dual-detector SPECT system"> dual-detector SPECT system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=myocardial%20SPECT" title=" myocardial SPECT"> myocardial SPECT</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32339/study-of-a-few-additional-posterior-projection-data-to-180-acquisition-for-myocardial-spect" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32339.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">295</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> Association between Severe Acidemia before Endotracheal Intubation and the Lower First Attempt Intubation Success Rate</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Keiko%20Naito">Keiko Naito</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Y.%20Nakashima"> Y. Severe acidemia is widely recognized as a predisposing factor for intubation failure. However, it is unclear that acidemic condition itself actually makes endotracheal intubation more difficult. We aimed to evaluate if a presence of severe acidemia before intubation is associated with the lower first attempt intubation success rate in the ED. Methods: This is a retrospective observational cohort study in the ED of an urban hospital in Japan. The collected data included patient demographics, such as age, sex, and body mass index, presence of one or more factors of modified LEMON criteria for predicting difficult intubation, reasons for intubation, blood gas levels, airway equipment, intubation by emergency physician or not, and the use of the rapid sequence intubation technique. Those with any of the following were excluded from the analysis: (1) no blood gas drawn before intubation, (2) cardiopulmonary arrest, and (3) under 18 years of age. The primary outcome was the first attempt intubation success rates between a severe acidemic patients (SA) group and a non-severe acidemic patients (NA) group. Logistic regression analysis was used to test the first attempt success rates for intubations between those two groups. Results: Over 5 years, a total of 486 intubations were performed; 105 in the SA group and 381 in the NA group. The univariate analysis showed that the first attempt intubation success rate was lower in the SA group than in the NA group (71.4% vs 83.5%, p < 0.01). The multivariate logistic regression analysis identified that severe acidemia was significantly associated with the first attempt intubation failure (OR 1.9, 95% CI 1.03-3.68, p = 0.04). Conclusions: A presence of severe acidemia before endotracheal intubation lowers the first attempt intubation success rate in the ED. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
