In the ancient Near East, clouds often symbolized divine presence, as seen in other biblical passages like <a href="/psalms/104-3.htm">Psalm 104:3</a> and <a href="/isaiah/19.htm">Isaiah 19:1</a>. The cloud provided shade and protection from the harsh desert sun, illustrating God's care and provision.
