href="https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/atlarge/overview">At-Large Advisory Committee</a></strong> (ALAC) hosted a session ‘<strong><a href="https://icann82.sched.com/event/1vpZw">Core Internet Values: Evolution and Challenges for ICANN’</a></strong> at the <strong><a href="https://meetings.icann.org/en/meetings/icann82/">ICANN 82 Community Forum</a></strong> in Seattle, Washington.</p> <p>The concept of core Internet values has been a cornerstone of the Internet’s architecture. However, with seismic shifts in technology, governance models, and geopolitical dynamics, these values require adjustment to remain relevant in today’s rapidly evolving environment. This session examined how such adjustments could affect ICANN’s remit and mission. It explored the balance between preserving foundational principles and adapting to emerging realities, leveraging insights from technological, governance, and geopolitical trends, alongside ICANN’s operational experience. NASA recently concluded a series of DTN experiments and demonstrations with the International Space Station over laser communications links through NASA’s Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD) payload in geosynchronous orbit. Demonstrations included file transfers and streaming video through multiple nodes, paths, and scenarios. Dave Israel, Goddard’s Near Space Network Architect and LCRD Principal Investigator will update us on the lasercom demonstration and its relation to the future of the Near Space Network and LunaNet.
