have a look at our frequently asked questions section.</p> <h2>What is the helpline? </h2> <ul> <li>It is a confidential service</li> <li>It is available to anybody with a query about hemiplegia – from parents/carers of children with hemiplegia, adults with hemiplegia to professionals supporting a person with hemiplegia (OT’s physio’s, educational support) </li> <li>It is run by a team of trained parents who have a child with hemiplegia and one of our helpliners is an adult with hemiplegia</li> <li>The HemiHelp helpline is a member of The Helplines Association</li> </ul> <p><img information on all aspects of hemiplegia including education, benefits such as DLA and mobility, emotional and behavioural problems etc.</li> <li>Our helpline volunteers give friendly and professional service and are always available to listen.</li> <li>We can provide information about HemiHelp membership and upcoming events.</li> </ul> <h2>Things we can do</h2> <p>Below is a list of ways we can support you. It’s not exhaustive; so if in doubt, do give us a call!</p> <ul> <li>Speak to you on the phone or reply to an email.</li> <li>Give you support by talking through your situation and try to work through any concerns you may have.</li> <li>Provide information on all aspects of hemiplegia.</li> <li>Research more complex enquiries to find specific information or first-hand local knowledge.</li> <li>Signpost to other organisations where their support may be helpful.</li> <li>Signpost to other forms of parent support Facebook, HemiHelp Forum and Regional Reach scheme.</li> <li>We can send out HemiHelp information sheets and membership enquiry packs.</li> <li>We can refer you for a home visit.</li> <li>We can refer you for a school visit.</li> <li>We can you refer you to our transitions adviser.</li> </ul> <h2>Things we can’t do</h2> <p>Below is a list of things we can’t do, although we can help you find services or professionals that might help you further, so please contact us for more information.</p> <ul> <li>Give medical advice or comment on a diagnosis. If you have specific medical questions it is best to contact your GP or consultant.</li> <li>Recommend particular treatments or private services such as private physiotherapists. </li> <li>Provide legal advice.</li> <li>Provide funding, although we may be able to signpost you to organisations that can offer grants.</li> <li>Provide a counselling service.</li> <h2>How can I become a helpliner myself?</h2> <p>Being a ‘helpliner’ is a most rewarding voluntary job. There is no better feeling than to put down the phone to someone and to feel that, in some way, you have made them feel better for having made that call.
