Certainly the dynamics of 2011 are vastly different than they were 20 years ago for both industries, and maybe it’s a bit idealistic to think things can be the same as they were when I was the program director of WPGC in Washington. But I believe we should always be thinking about where we were and where we are now, and how we can apply what we’ve learned to help us grow.<br><br>"In the spirit of this conversation, I asked this exec what’s the one thing the radio industry could do to help sell more music. We will also be expanding our radio play history online as far back as several years, providing a living synopsis of the songs we feature on the air for anyone to access.<br><br>"This is a commitment I feel very strongly about. Radio One CEO Alfred Liggins received base salaries of approximately $846,000 in 2008, $934,000 in 2009 and nearly $960,000 in 2010. Also included for 2010 was a bonus of $1.15 million, stock awards worth $1.74 million and $79,000 in "other compensation." (In 2008, Liggins received a bonus of $5.8 million in 2008.) In 2010, Chairperson and founder Cathy Hughes received a base salary of $744,688, CFO Peter Thompson's base salary was $404,043, and radio division president Barry Mayo's base salary was $546,458. Moody's also lifted their probability-of-default rating to B-1, which is four steps below investment-grade. Moody's cites their increasing subscriber base, as well as their efforts to reduce debt and better operating performance as reasons for the upgrade. The Moody's upgrade came on Tuesday afternoon, over an hour before the market closed, and shares immediately jumped six cents in the last 90 minutes of trading. That will be transferred to an HD multicast channel and to a dedicated online all-jazz service. Former Minnesota Public Radio executive Dennis Hamilton will serve as Interim President and General Manager. He is currently Director of Consulting for Colorado-based Public Radio Capital, which is backing the new Essential Public Media through its new PMC (Public Media Company) unit. PMC did the deal with Duquesne University in partnership with another Pittsburgh non-com, adult alternative WYEP (91.3).
