class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frederick%20Johnson">Frederick Johnson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Product management has a long and well-established history within the consumer goods industry, despite being one of the most obscure aspects of brand management. Many global manufacturing organizations are now opting for external cloud-based Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to replace costly and outdated monolithic MES solutions. Other global manufacturing leaders are restructuring their organizations to support human-centered values, agile methodologies, and fluid operating principles. Still, industry-leading organizations struggle to apply the appropriate framework for managing evolving external MES solutions as internal "digital products." Product management complements these current trends in technology and philosophical thinking in the market. This paper discusses the central problems associated with adopting product management processes by analyzing its traditional theories and characteristics. Considering these ideas, the article then constructs a translated internal digital product management framework by combining new and existing approaches and principles. The report concludes by demonstrating the framework's capabilities and potential effectiveness in achieving digital maturity and business agility within a manufacturing environment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internal%20product%20management" title="internal product management">internal product management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20transformation" title=" digital transformation"> digital transformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=manufacturing%20information%20technology" title=" manufacturing information technology"> manufacturing information technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=manufacturing%20execution%20systems" title=" manufacturing execution systems"> manufacturing execution systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135214/internal-product-management-the-key-to-achieving-digital-maturity-and-business-agility-for-manufacturing-it-organizations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135214.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">135</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11449</span> Productivity and Structural Design of Manufacturing Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryspek%20Usubamatov">Ryspek Usubamatov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tan%20San%20Chin"> Tan San Chin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sarken%20Kapaeva"> Sarken Kapaeva</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Productivity of the manufacturing systems depends on technological processes, a technical data of machines and a structure of systems. Technology is presented by the machining mode and data, a technical data presents reliability parameters and auxiliary time for discrete production processes. The term structure of manufacturing systems includes the number of serial and parallel production machines and links between them. Structures of manufacturing systems depend on the complexity of technological processes. Mathematical models of productivity rate for manufacturing systems are important attributes that enable to define best structure by criterion of a productivity rate. It is a way for an investor to determine the overall quality of execution of a particular trade, and there are many different approaches to undertaking TCA. Under the updated Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (2014/65/EU) (MiFID II), investment firms are required when executing orders, to take all sufficient steps to obtain the best possible result for their clients. This requirement for 'Best Execution' must take into account price, costs, speed, likelihood of execution and settlement, size, nature or any other consideration relevant to the execution of the order. The new regulatory compliance framework under MiFID II will now also apply across a very broad range of financial instruments. This article will provide a comprehensive technical analysis of how TCA and Best Execution will significantly change under MiFID II. It will also explain why harmonization of post-trade reporting requirements under MiFID II could potentially support the development of peer group analysis, which in turn could provide a new and highly advanced framework for TCA that could more effectively support Best Execution requirements under MiFID II. The study is significant because there are no studies that have dealt with TCA and Best Execution under MiFID II in the literature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transaction%20cost%20analysis" title="transaction cost analysis">transaction cost analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=execution%20quality" title=" execution quality"> execution quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=best%20execution" title=" best execution"> best execution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MiFID%20II" title=" MiFID II"> MiFID II</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20instruments" title=" financial instruments"> financial instruments</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69323/transaction-cost-analysis-execution-quality-and-best-execution-under-mifid-ii" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69323.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">290</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11447</span> A New Approach towards the Development of Next Generation CNC</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yusri%20Yusof">Yusri Yusof</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamran%20Latif"> Kamran Latif</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine has been widely used in the industries since its inception. Currently, in CNC technology has been used for various operations like milling, drilling, packing and welding etc. with the rapid growth in the manufacturing world the demand of flexibility in the CNC machines has rapidly increased. Previously, the commercial CNC failed to provide flexibility because its structure was of closed nature that does not provide access to the inner features of CNC. Also CNC’s operating ISO data interface model was found to be limited. Therefore, to overcome that problem, Open Architecture Control (OAC) technology and STEP-NC data interface model are introduced. At present the Personal Computer (PC) has been the best platform for the development of open-CNC systems. In this paper, both ISO data interface model interpretation, its verification and execution has been highlighted with the introduction of the new techniques. The proposed is composed of ISO data interpretation, 3D simulation and machine motion control modules. The system is tested on an old 3 axis CNC milling machine. The results are found to be satisfactory in performance. This implementation has successfully enabled sustainable manufacturing environment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CNC" title="CNC">CNC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ISO%206983" title=" ISO 6983"> ISO 6983</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ISO%2014649" title=" ISO 14649"> ISO 14649</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LabVIEW" title=" LabVIEW"> LabVIEW</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=open%20architecture%20control" title=" open architecture control"> open architecture control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reconfigurable%20manufacturing%20systems" title=" reconfigurable manufacturing systems"> reconfigurable manufacturing systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20manufacturing" title=" sustainable manufacturing"> sustainable manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soft-CNC" title=" Soft-CNC"> Soft-CNC</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28745/a-new-approach-towards-the-development-of-next-generation-cnc" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28745.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">516</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11446</span> Improved Pattern Matching Applied to Surface Mounting Devices Components Localization on Automated Optical Inspection</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pedro%20M.%20A.%20Vitoriano">Pedro M. The end-user need for highly customized products requires highly adaptive production systems in order to keep the same efficiency of shop floors. Most of the classical Software solutions that operate the manufacturing processes in a shop floor are based on rigid Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), which are not capable to adapt the production order on the fly depending on changing demands and or conditions. In this paper, we present a highly modular and flexible solution to orchestrate a set of production systems composed of a micro-milling machine-tool, a polishing station, a cleaning station, a part inspection station, and a rough material store. The different stations are installed according to a novel matrix configuration of a 3x3 vertical shelf. The different cells of the shelf are connected through horizontal and vertical rails on which a set of shuttles circulate to transport the machined parts from a station to another. Our software solution for orchestrating the tasks of each station is based on a Multi-Agent System. Each station and each shuttle is operated by an autonomous agent. All agents communicate with a central agent that holds all the information about the manufacturing order. The core innovation of this paper lies in the path planning of the different shuttles with two major objectives: 1) reduce the waiting time of stations and thus reduce the cycle time of the entire part, and 2) reduce the disturbances like vibration generated by the shuttles, which highly impacts the manufacturing process and thus the quality of the final part. Simulation results show that the cycle time of the parts is reduced by up to 50% compared with MES operated linear production lines while the disturbance is systematically avoided for the critical stations like the milling machine-tool. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-agent%20systems" title="multi-agent systems">multi-agent systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-manufacturing" title=" micro-manufacturing"> micro-manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexible%20manufacturing" title=" flexible manufacturing"> flexible manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transfer%20systems" title=" transfer systems"> transfer systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115053/multi-agent-system-based-solution-for-operating-agile-and-customizable-micro-manufacturing-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115053.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">130</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11444</span> An Evaluation Model for Enhancing Flexibility in Production Systems through Additive Manufacturing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Angela%20Luft">Angela Luft</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sebastian%20Bremen"> Sebastian Bremen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolae%20Balc"> Nicolae Balc</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Additive manufacturing processes have entered large parts of the industry and their range of application have progressed and grown significantly in the course of time. A major advantage of additive manufacturing is the innate flexibility of the machines. This corelates with the ongoing demand of creating highly flexible production environments. However, the potential of additive manufacturing technologies to enhance the flexibility of production systems has not yet been truly considered and quantified in a systematic way. In order to determine the potential of additive manufacturing technologies with regards to the strategic flexibility design in production systems, an integrated evaluation model has been developed, that allows for the simultaneous consideration of both conventional as well as additive production resources. With the described model, an operational scope of action can be identified and quantified in terms of mix and volume flexibility, process complexity, and machine capacity that goes beyond the current cost-oriented approaches and offers a much broader and more holistic view on the potential of additive manufacturing. A respective evaluation model is presented this paper. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=additive%20manufacturing" title="additive manufacturing">additive manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capacity%20planning" title=" capacity planning"> capacity planning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=production%20systems" title=" production systems"> production systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strategic%20production%20planning" title=" strategic production planning"> strategic production planning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexibility%20enhancement" title=" flexibility enhancement"> flexibility enhancement</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149112/an-evaluation-model-for-enhancing-flexibility-in-production-systems-through-additive-manufacturing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149112.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11443</span> 3rd Generation Modular Execution: A Global Breakthrough in Modular Facility Construction System </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sean%20Bryner%20S.%20Rey">Sean Bryner S. In this publication, the authors present a holistic information concept taking into account various influencing factors for operating towards the global optimum. Therefore, a strategy for the implementation of multi-level planning for a flexible, reconfigurable production system with an alternative production concept in the automotive industry is developed. The main contribution of this work is a system structure mixing central and decentral planning and control evaluated in a simulation framework. The information system structure in current production systems in the automotive industry is rigidly hierarchically organized in monolithic systems. The production program is created rule-based with the premise of achieving uniform cycle time. This program then provides the information basis for execution in subsystems at the station and process execution level. In today's era of mixed-(car-)model factories, complex conditions and conflicts arise in achieving logistics, quality, and production goals. There is no provision for feedback loops of results from the process execution level (resources) and process supporting (quality and logistics) systems and reconsideration in the planning systems. To enable a robust production flow, the complexity of production system control is artificially reduced by the line structure and results, for example in material-intensive processes (buffers and safety stocks - two container principle also for different variants). The limited degrees of freedom of line production have produced the principle of progress figure control, which results in one-time sequencing, sequential order release, and relatively inflexible capacity control. As a result, modularly structured production systems such as modular production according to known approaches with more degrees of freedom are currently difficult to represent in terms of information technology. The remedy is an information concept that supports cross-system and cross-level information processing for centralized and decentralized decision-making. Through an architecture of hierarchically organized but decoupled subsystems, the paradigm of hybrid control is used, and a holonic manufacturing system is offered, which enables flexible information provisioning and processing support. In this way, the influences from quality, logistics, and production processes can be linked holistically with the advantages of mixed centralized and decentralized planning and control. Modular production systems also require modularly networked information systems with semi-autonomous optimization for a robust production flow. Dynamic prioritization of different key figures between subsystems should lead the production system to an overall optimum. The tasks and goals of quality, logistics, process, resource, and product areas in a cyber-physical production system are designed as an interconnected multi-agent-system. The result is an alternative system structure that executes centralized process planning and decentralized processing. An agent-based manufacturing control is used to enable different flexibility and reconfigurability states and manufacturing strategies in order to find optimal partial solutions of subsystems, that lead to a near global optimum for hybrid planning. This allows a robust near to plan execution with integrated quality control and intralogistics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=holonic%20manufacturing%20system" title="holonic manufacturing system">holonic manufacturing system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modular%20production%20system" title=" modular production system"> modular production system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=planning" title=" planning"> planning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=and%20control" title=" and control"> and control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=system%20structure" title=" system structure"> system structure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142944/structured-cross-system-planning-and-control-in-modular-production-systems-by-using-agent-based-control-loops" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142944.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11441</span> Fuzzy Inference System for Risk Assessment Evaluation of Wheat Flour Product Manufacturing Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yas%20Barzegaar">Yas Barzegaar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Atrin%20Barzegar"> Atrin Barzegar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this research is to develop an intelligent system to analyze the risk level of wheat flour product manufacturing system. This paper introduces a method for resource provisioning based on our previous research of dynamic allocation and its pipeline processes. We present an abstraction for workload scheduling in which independent tasks get scheduled among various available processors of distributed computing for optimization. We also propose an integrated web-based workflow designer by taking advantage of the HTML5 technology and chaining together multiple tools. In order to make the combination of multiple pipelines executing on the cloud in parallel, we develop a script translator and an execution engine for workflow management in the cloud. All information is known in advance by the workflow engine and tasks are allocated according to the prior knowledge in the repository. This proposed effort has the potential to provide support for process definition, workflow enactment and monitoring of workflow processes. Users would benefit from the web-based system that allows creation and execution of pipelines without scripting knowledge. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workflow%20systems" title="workflow systems">workflow systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resources%20provisioning" title=" resources provisioning"> resources provisioning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workload%20scheduling" title=" workload scheduling"> workload scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=web-based" title=" web-based"> web-based</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workflow%20engine" title=" workflow engine"> workflow engine</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97810/an-integrated-web-based-workflow-system-for-design-of-computational-pipelines-in-the-cloud" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97810.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">160</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11437</span> The Interoperability between CNC Machine Tools and Robot Handling Systems Based on an Object-Oriented Framework</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pouyan%20Jahanbin">Pouyan Jahanbin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahmoud%20Houshmand"> Mahmoud Houshmand</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omid%20Fatahi%20Valilai"> Omid Fatahi Valilai</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A flexible manufacturing system (FMS) is a manufacturing system having the capability of handling the variations of products features that is the result of ever-changing customer demands. The flexibility of the manufacturing systems help to utilize the resources in a more effective manner. However, the control of such systems would be complicated and challenging. FMS needs CNC machines and robots and other resources for establishing the flexibility and enhancing the efficiency of the whole system. Also it needs to integrate the resources to reach required efficiency and flexibility. In order to reach this goal, an integrator framework is proposed in which the machining data of CNC machine tools is received through a STEP-NC file. The interoperability of the system is achieved by the information system. This paper proposes an information system that its data model is designed based on object oriented approach and is implemented through a knowledge-based system. The framework is connected to a database which is filled with robot’s control commands. The framework programs the robots by rules embedded in its knowledge based system. It also controls the interactions of CNC machine tools for loading and unloading actions by robot. As a result, the proposed framework improves the integration of manufacturing resources in Flexible Manufacturing Systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CNC%20machine%20tools" title="CNC machine tools">CNC machine tools</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=industrial%20robots" title=" industrial robots"> industrial robots</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge-based%20systems" title=" knowledge-based systems"> knowledge-based systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=manufacturing%20recourses%20integration" title=" manufacturing recourses integration"> manufacturing recourses integration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexible%20manufacturing%20system%20%28FMS%29" title=" flexible manufacturing system (FMS)"> flexible manufacturing system (FMS)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=object-oriented%20data%20model" title=" object-oriented data model"> object-oriented data model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27404/the-interoperability-between-cnc-machine-tools-and-robot-handling-systems-based-on-an-object-oriented-framework" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27404.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">455</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11436</span> Factory Communication System for Customer-Based Production Execution: An Empirical Study on the Manufacturing System Entropy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nyashadzashe%20Chiraga">Nyashadzashe Chiraga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anthony%20Walker"> Anthony Walker</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Glen%20Bright"> Glen Bright</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The manufacturing industry is currently experiencing a paradigm shift into the Fourth Industrial Revolution in which customers are increasingly at the epicentre of production. The high degree of production customization and personalization requires a flexible manufacturing system that will rapidly respond to the dynamic and volatile changes driven by the market. They are a gap in technology that allows for the optimal flow of information and optimal manufacturing operations on the shop floor regardless of the rapid changes in the fixture and part demands. Information is the reduction of uncertainty; it gives meaning and context on the state of each cell. The amount of information needed to describe cellular manufacturing systems is investigated by two measures: the structural entropy and the operational entropy. Structural entropy is the expected amount of information needed to describe scheduled states of a manufacturing system. While operational entropy is the amount of information that describes the scheduled states of a manufacturing system, which occur during the actual manufacturing operation. Using Anylogic simulator a typical manufacturing job shop was set-up with a cellular manufacturing configuration. The cellular make-up of the configuration included; a Material handling cell, 3D Printer cell, Assembly cell, manufacturing cell and Quality control cell. The factory shop provides manufactured parts to a number of clients, and there are substantial variations in the part configurations, new part designs are continually being introduced to the system. Based on the normal expected production schedule, the schedule adherence was calculated from the structural entropy and operation entropy of varying the amounts of information communicated in simulated runs. The structural entropy denotes a system that is in control; the necessary real-time information is readily available to the decision maker at any point in time. For contractive analysis, different out of control scenarios were run, in which changes in the manufacturing environment were not effectively communicated resulting in deviations in the original predetermined schedule. The operational entropy was calculated from the actual operations. From the results obtained in the empirical study, it was seen that increasing, the efficiency of a factory communication system increases the degree of adherence of a job to the expected schedule. The performance of downstream production flow fed from the parallel upstream flow of information on the factory state was increased. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20entropy" title="information entropy">information entropy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=communication%20in%20manufacturing" title=" communication in manufacturing"> communication in manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mass%20customisation" title=" mass customisation"> mass customisation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scheduling" title=" scheduling"> scheduling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54506/factory-communication-system-for-customer-based-production-execution-an-empirical-study-on-the-manufacturing-system-entropy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54506.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">245</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11435</span> A Framework for Embedding Industry 4.0 in the UAE Defence Manufacturing Industry</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khalifa%20Al%20Baloushi">Khalifa Al Baloushi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hongwei%20Zhang"> Hongwei Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Terrence%20Perera"> Terrence Perera</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Over the last few decades, the government of the UAE has been taking actions to consolidate defense manufacturing entities with the view to build a coherent and modern defense manufacturing base. Several enterprises around the world have applied the lean manufacturing system and gained great improvements. This paper investigates the barriers and obstacles that face Libyan manufacturing companies to implement lean manufacturing. A mixed-method approach is suggested, starting with conducting a questionnaire to get quantitative data then using this to develop semi-structured interviews to collect qualitative data. The findings of the questionnaire results and how these can be used further develop the semi-structured interviews are then discussed. The survey was distributed to 65 manufacturing companies in Libya, and a response rate of 64.6% was obtained. The results showed that these are five main barriers to implementing lean in Libya, namely organizational culture, skills and expertise, and training program, financial capability, top management, and communication. These barriers were also identified from the literature as being significant obstacles to implementing Lean in other countries industries. Having an understanding of the difficulties that face the implementation of lean manufacturing systems, as a new and modern system and using this to develop a suitable framework will help to improve the manufacturing sector in Libya. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lean%20manufacturing" title="lean manufacturing">lean manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=barriers" title=" barriers"> barriers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=questionnaire" title=" questionnaire"> questionnaire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Libyan%20manufacturing%20companies" title=" Libyan manufacturing companies"> Libyan manufacturing companies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75278/barriers-facing-the-implementation-of-lean-manufacturing-in-libyan-manufacturing-companies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75278.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">247</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11432</span> Optimised Path Recommendation for a Real Time Process</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Likewin%20Thomas">Likewin Thomas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20V.%20Manoj%20Kumar"> M. It is defined as the process of joining materials to make objects from 3D model data, and it is usually layer upon layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies. This technology has gained significant interest within the academic, research institute and industry because of its ability to create complex geometries with customizable material properties. Despite the late adoption of the technology, additive manufacturing has been active in South Africa for past 21 years and it is predicted that additive manufacturing technology will play a significant and game-changing role in the fourth industrial revolution and in particular it promises to play an ever-growing role in efforts to re-industrialize the economy of South Africa. At the end of 2006, there are approximately ninety 3D printers in South Africa and in 2015 it was estimated that there are 3500 additive manufacturing systems and 3D printers in circulation in South Africa. A reasonable number of these additive manufacturing machines are in the high end of the market, in science councils and higher education institutions and this shows that the future of additive manufacturing in South Africa is very brighter compared to other African countries. This paper reviews the past and current industrial applications of additive manufacturing in South Africa from the academic research and industry perspective and what are the benefits of this technology to manufacturing companies and industrial sectors in the country. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=additive%20manufacturing" title="additive manufacturing">additive manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20printing%20technology" title=" 3D printing technology"> 3D printing technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=industrial%20applications" title=" industrial applications"> industrial applications</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=manufacturing" title=" manufacturing"> manufacturing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62748/industrial-applications-of-additive-manufacturing-and-3d-printing-technology-a-review-from-south-africa-perspective" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62748.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">472</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11422</span> Resilient Manufacturing in Times of Mass Customisation: Using Augmented Reality to Improve Training and Operating Practices of EV’s Battery Assembly</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lorena%20Caires%20Moreira">Lorena Caires Moreira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcos%20Kauffman"> Marcos Kauffman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper outlines the results of experimental research on deploying an emerging augmented reality (AR) system for real-time task assistance of highly customized and high-risk manual operations.
