However, nowadays, transshipment becomes the main business to many container terminals, especially in Southeast Asia (e.g. Hong Kong and Singapore). In these terminals, vessel arrivals are usually very frequent with small handling volume and very short staying time. Therefore, the traditional hourly-based modeling approach may cause significant berth and quay crane idling, and consequently cannot meet their practical needs. In this connection, a 15-minute-based modeling approach is requested by industrial practitioners. Accordingly, a Three-level Genetic Algorithm (3LGA) with Quay Crane (QC) shifting heuristics is designed to fulfill the research gap. The objective function here is to minimize the total service time. Preliminary numerical results show that the proposed 15-minute-based approach can reduce the berth and QC idling significantly. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transshipment" title="transshipment">transshipment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=integrated%20berth%20allocation" title=" integrated berth allocation"> integrated berth allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variable-in-time%20quay%20crane%20assignment" title=" variable-in-time quay crane assignment"> variable-in-time quay crane assignment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quay%20crane%20assignment" title=" quay crane assignment"> quay crane assignment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95988/a-15-minute-based-approach-for-berth-allocation-and-quay-crane-assignment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95988.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11</span> Mathematical Model and Algorithm for the Berth and Yard Resource Allocation at Seaports</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ming%20Liu">Ming Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhihui%20Sun"> Zhihui Sun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaoning%20Zhang"> Xiaoning Zhang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper studies a deterministic container transportation problem, jointly optimizing the berth allocation, quay crane assignment and yard storage allocation at container ports. In the recent years, the vessels that call at the Port have increased in size which calls for draughts that are much deeper. For this reason, these larger vessels can only berth under high tide to avoid the risk of running aground. In addition to this, the ships cannot sail in fully laden which does not make it feasible for ship owners. Further during the berthing materials are displaced from the seabed which result in shallow spots being developed. The permitted draft (under-keel allowance) for the Durban Container Terminal (DCT) is currently 12.2 m. Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) are currently investing in a dredging fleet worth almost two billion rand. One of the highlights of this investment would be the building of grab hopper dredger that would be dedicated to the Port by 2017. TNPA are trying various techniques to dissolve the reduction of draughts by implementing dredging maintenance projects but is this sufficient? The ideal resolution would be the deepening and widening of the berths. Plans for this project is in place, but the implementation process is a matter of urgency. The intention of this project will be to accommodate three big vessels rather than two which in turn will improve the turnaround time in the port. The berthing will then no longer depend on high tide to avoid ships running aground. The aim of this paper is to prove the implementation of deepening and widening of the Port of Durban is a matter of urgency. If the plan to deepen and widen the berths at DCT is delayed it will mean a loss of business for the South African economy. If larger vessels cannot be accommodated in the Port of Durban, it will bypass the busiest container handling facility in the Southern hemisphere. Shipping companies are compelled to use larger ships as opposed to smaller vessels to lower port and fuel costs. A delay in the expansion of DCT could also result in an escalation of costs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DCT" title="DCT">DCT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deepening" title=" deepening"> deepening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=berth" title=" berth"> berth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=port" title=" port"> port</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54171/the-urgency-of-berth-deepening-at-the-port-of-durban" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54171.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">400</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9</span> A Novel Integration of Berth Allocation, Quay Cranes and Trucks Scheduling Problems in Container Terminals</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Moharami%20Gargari">M. One of the most important determinants of container handling efficiency is the productivity of quay cranes and internal transportation vehicles, which are responsible transporting of containers for unloading and loading operations for container vessels. For this reason, this paper presents an integrated mathematical model formulation for discrete berths with quay cranes and internal transportations vehicles. The problems have received increasing attention in the literature and the present paper deals with the integration of these interrelated problems. A new mixed integer linear formulation is developed for the Berth Allocation Problem (BAP), Quay Crane Assignment and Scheduling Problem (QCASP) and Internal Transportation Scheduling (ITS), which accounts for cranes and trucks positioning conditions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20berths" title="discrete berths">discrete berths</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=container%20terminal" title=" container terminal"> container terminal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=truck%20scheduling" title=" truck scheduling"> truck scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20vessel%20arrival" title=" dynamic vessel arrival "> dynamic vessel arrival </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30174/a-novel-integration-of-berth-allocation-quay-cranes-and-trucks-scheduling-problems-in-container-terminals" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30174.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">400</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> Investigation of Flame and Soot Propagation in Non-Air Conditioned Railway Locomotives</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abhishek%20Agarwal">Abhishek Agarwal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manoj%20Sarda"> Manoj Sarda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juhi%20Kaushik"> Juhi Kaushik</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vatsal%20Sanjay"> Vatsal Sanjay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arup%20Kumar%20Das"> Arup Kumar Das</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Propagation of fire through a non-air conditioned railway compartment is studied by virtue of numerical simulations. Simultaneous computational fire dynamics equations, such as Navier-Stokes, lumped species continuity, overall mass and energy conservation, and heat transfer are solved using finite volume based (for radiation) and finite difference based (for all other equations) solver, Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). A single coupe with an eight berth occupancy is used to establish the numerical model, followed by the selection of a three coupe system as the fundamental unit of the locomotive compartment. Heat Release Rate Per Unit Area (HRRPUA) of the initial fire is varied to consider a wide range of compartmental fires. Parameters, such as air inlet velocity relative to the locomotive at the windows, the level of interaction with the ambiance and closure of middle berth are studied through a wide range of numerical simulations. Almost all the loss of lives and properties due to fire breakout can be attributed to the direct or indirect exposure to flames or to the inhalation of toxic gases and resultant suffocation due to smoke and soot. Therefore, the temporal stature of fire and smoke are reported for each of the considered cases which can be used in the present or extended form to develop guidelines to be followed in case of a fire breakout. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fire%20dynamics" title="fire dynamics">fire dynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flame%20propagation" title=" flame propagation"> flame propagation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=locomotive%20fire" title=" locomotive fire"> locomotive fire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soot%20flow%20pattern" title=" soot flow pattern"> soot flow pattern</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-air-conditioned%20coaches" title=" non-air-conditioned coaches"> non-air-conditioned coaches</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50482/investigation-of-flame-and-soot-propagation-in-non-air-conditioned-railway-locomotives" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50482.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">293</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">7</span> Optimization Method of the Number of Berth at Bus Rapid Transit Stations Based on Passenger Flow Demand</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wei%20Kunkun">Wei Kunkun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cao%20Wanyang"> Cao Wanyang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xu%20Yujie"> Xu Yujie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qiao%20Yuzhi"> Qiao Yuzhi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liu%20Yingning"> Liu Yingning</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The reasonable design of bus parking spaces can improve the traffic capacity of the station and reduce traffic congestion. In order to reasonably determine the number of berths at BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) stops, it is based on the actual bus rapid transit station observation data, scheduling data, and passenger flow data. Optimize the number of station berths from the perspective of optimizing the balance of supply and demand at the site. Combined with the classical capacity calculation model, this paper first analyzes the important factors affecting the traffic capacity of BRT stops by using SPSS PRO and MATLAB programming software, namely the distribution of BRT stops and the distribution of BRT stop time. Secondly, the method of calculating the number of the classic human capital management (HCM) model is optimized based on the actual passenger demand of the station, and the method applicable to the actual number of station berths is proposed. Taking Gangding Station of Zhongshan Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Corridor in Guangzhou as an example, based on the calculation method proposed in this paper, the number of berths of sub-station 1, sub-station 2 and sub-station 3 is 2, which reduces the road space of the station by 33.3% compared with the previous berth 3 of each sub-station, and returns to social vehicles. Therefore, under the condition of ensuring the passenger flow demand of BRT stations, the road space of the station is reduced, and the road is returned to social vehicles, the traffic capacity of social vehicles is improved, and the traffic capacity and efficiency of the BRT corridor system are improved as a whole. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20transportation" title="urban transportation">urban transportation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bus%20rapid%20transit%20station" title=" bus rapid transit station"> bus rapid transit station</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HCM%20model" title=" HCM model"> HCM model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capacity" title=" capacity"> capacity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=number%20of%20berths" title=" number of berths"> number of berths</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165595/optimization-method-of-the-number-of-berth-at-bus-rapid-transit-stations-based-on-passenger-flow-demand" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165595.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">95</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Analytic Hierarchy Process for the Container Terminal Choice from Multiple Terminals within the Port of Colombo</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G.%20M.%20B.%20P.%20Abeysekara">G. Therefore, terminal choice is a multiple criterion decision making (MCDM) situation under a specially designed decision hierarchy. Identification of perspective of shipping lines regarding terminal choice is vital important for the decision makers regarding container terminals. Thus this study is evaluated perception on main and feeder shipping lines’ regarding port of Colombo container terminals, and ranked terminals according to shipping lines preference. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model is adapted to this study, since it has features similar to the MCDM, it is weighted every influential factor by using pair wise comparisons, and consistency of the decision makers’ judgments are checked to evaluate trustworthiness of gathered data. And rating method is used to rank the terminals within Port of Colombo by assigning particular preference values with respect to the criteria and sub criteria. According to the findings of this study, main lines’ mainly concern on water depth of approach channel, depth of berth, handling charges and handling equipment facilities. And feeder lines’ main concerns were handling equipment facilities, loading and discharging efficiency, depth of berth and handling charges. Findings of the study suggested concentrating regarding the emphasized areas in order to enhance the competitiveness of terminals, and to increase number of vessel callings at the Port of Colombo. Application of above finding of the terminals within Port of Colombo lead to a far better competition among terminals and would uplift the overall level of services. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AHP" title="AHP">AHP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Main%20and%20feeder%20shipping%20lines" title=" Main and feeder shipping lines"> Main and feeder shipping lines</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=criteria" title=" criteria"> criteria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sub%20criteria" title=" sub criteria"> sub criteria</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23048/analytic-hierarchy-process-for-the-container-terminal-choice-from-multiple-terminals-within-the-port-of-colombo" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23048.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">420</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Characterization of Fine Particles Emitted by the Inland and Maritime Shipping</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malika%20Souada">Malika Souada</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juanita%20Rausch"> Juanita Rausch</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benjamin%20Guinot"> Benjamin Guinot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christine%20Bugajny"> Christine Bugajny</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The increase of global commerce and tourism makes the shipping sector an important contributor of atmospheric pollution. Both, airborne particles and gaseous pollutants have negative impact on health and climate. This is especially the case in port cities, due to the proximity of the exposed population to the shipping emissions in addition to other multiple sources of pollution linked to the surrounding urban activity. The objective of this study is to determine the concentrations of fine particles (immission), specifically PM2.5, PM1, PM0.3, BC and sulphates, in a context where maritime passenger traffic plays an important role (port area of Bordeaux centre). The methodology is based on high temporal resolution measurements of pollutants, correlated with meteorological and ship movements data. Particles and gaseous pollutants from seven maritime passenger ships were sampled and analysed during the docking, manoeuvring and berthing phases. The particle mass measurements were supplemented by measurements of the number concentration of ultrafine particles (<300 nm diameter). The different measurement points were chosen by taking into account the local meteorological conditions and by pre-modelling the dispersion of the smoke plumes. The results of the measurement campaign carried out during the summer of 2021 in the port of Bordeaux show that the detection of concentrations of particles emitted by ships proved to be punctual and stealthy. Punctual peaks of ultrafine particle concentration in number (P#/m3) and BC (ng/m3) were measured during the docking phases of the ships, but the concentrations returned to their background level within minutes. However, it appears that the influence of the docking phases does not significantly affect the air quality of Bordeaux centre in terms of mass concentration. Additionally, no clear differences in PM2.5 concentrations between the periods with and without ships at berth were observed. The urban background pollution seems to be mainly dominated by exhaust and non-exhaust road traffic emissions. However, temporal high-resolution measurements suggest a probable emission of gaseous precursors responsible for the formation of secondary aerosols related to the ship activities. This was evidenced by the high values of the PM1/BC and PN/BC ratios, tracers of non-primary particle formation, during periods of ship berthing vs. periods without ships at berth. The research findings from this study provide robust support for port area air quality assessment and source apportionment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=characterization" title="characterization">characterization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fine%20particulate%20matter" title=" fine particulate matter"> fine particulate matter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=harbour%20air%20quality" title=" harbour air quality"> harbour air quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shipping%20impacts" title=" shipping impacts"> shipping impacts</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/158538/characterization-of-fine-particles-emitted-by-the-inland-and-maritime-shipping" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/158538.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">104</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Speed Optimization Model for Reducing Fuel Consumption Based on Shipping Log Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayudhia%20P.%20Gusti">Ayudhia P. How to reduce the fuel cost of ship so that the operational costs of fuel can be minimized is the question that arises. As the basis of these kinds of problem, sailing speed determination is an important factor to be considered by a shipping company. Optimal speed determination will give a significant influence on the route and berth schedule of ships, which also affect vessel operating costs. The purpose of this paper is to clarify some important issues about ship speed optimization. Sailing speed, displacement, sailing time, and specific fuel consumption were obtained from shipping log data to be further analyzed for modeling the speed optimization. The presented speed optimization model is expected to affect the fuel consumption and to reduce the cost of fuel consumption. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maritime%20transportation" title="maritime transportation">maritime transportation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reducing%20fuel" title=" reducing fuel"> reducing fuel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shipping%20log%20data" title=" shipping log data"> shipping log data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=speed%20optimization" title=" speed optimization"> speed optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61808/speed-optimization-model-for-reducing-fuel-consumption-based-on-shipping-log-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61808.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">568</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Intelligent Parking Systems for Quasi-Close Communities</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayodele%20Adekunle%20Faiyetole">Ayodele Adekunle Faiyetole</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olumide%20Olawale%20Jegede"> Olumide Olawale Jegede</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents the experimental design and needs justifications for a localized intelligent parking system (L-IPS), ideal for quasi-close communities with increasing vehicular volume that depends on limited or constant parking facilities. For a constant supply in parking facilities, the demand for an increasing vehicular volume could lead to poor time conservation or extended travel time, traffic congestion or impeded mobility, and safety issues. Increased negative environmental and economic externalities are other associated and consequent downsides of disparities in demand and supply. This L-IPS is designed using a microcontroller, ultrasonic sensors, LED indicators, such that the current status, in terms of parking spots availability, can be known from the main entrance to the community or a parking zone on a LCD screen. As an advanced traffic management system (ATMS), the L-IPS is designed to resolve aspects of infrastructure-to-driver (I2D) communication and parking detection issues. Thus, this L-IPS can act as a timesaver for users by helping them know the availability of parking spots. Providing on-time, informed routing, to a next preference or seamless moving to berth on the available spot on a proximate facility as the case may be. Its use could also increase safety and increase mobility, and fuel savings and costs, therefore, reducing negative environmental and economic externalities due to transportation systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intelligent%20parking%20systems" title="intelligent parking systems">intelligent parking systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=localized%20intelligent%20parking%20system" title=" localized intelligent parking system"> localized intelligent parking system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intelligent%20transport%20systems" title=" intelligent transport systems"> intelligent transport systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=advanced%20traffic%20management%20systems" title=" advanced traffic management systems"> advanced traffic management systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=infrastructure-to-drivers%20communication" title=" infrastructure-to-drivers communication"> infrastructure-to-drivers communication</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/106820/intelligent-parking-systems-for-quasi-close-communities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/106820.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">171</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> Simulation-Based Control Module for Offshore Single Point Mooring System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daehyun%20Baek">Daehyun Baek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seungmin%20Lee"> Seungmin Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Minju%20Kim%20Jangik%20Park"> Minju Kim Jangik Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyeong-Soon%20Moon"> Hyeong-Soon Moon</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> SPM (Single Point Mooring) is one of the mooring buoy facilities installed on a coast near oil and gas terminal which is not able to berth FPSO or large oil tankers under the condition of high draft due to geometrical limitation. Loading and unloading of crude oil and gas through a subsea pipeline can be carried out between the mooring buoy, ships and onshore facilities. SPM is an offshore-standalone system which has to withstand the harsh marine environment with harsh conditions such as high wind, current and so on. Therefore, SPM is required to have high stability, reliability and durability. Also, SPM is comprised to be integrated systems which consist of power management, high pressure valve control, sophisticated hardware/software and a long distance communication system. In order to secure required functions of SPM system, a simulation model for the integrated system of SPM using MATLAB Simulink and State flow tool has been developed. The developed model consists of configuration of hydraulic system for opening and closing of PLEM (Pipeline End Manifold) valves and control system logic. To verify functions of the model, an integrated simulation model for overall systems of SPM was also developed by considering handshaking variables between individual systems. In addition to the dynamic model, a self-diagnostic function to determine failure of the system was configured, which enables the SPM system itself to alert users about the failure once a failure signal comes to arise. Controlling and monitoring the SPM system is able to be done by a HMI system which is capable of managing the SPM system remotely, which was carried out by building a communication environment between the SPM system and the HMI system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HMI%20system" title="HMI system">HMI system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mooring%20buoy" title=" mooring buoy"> mooring buoy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulink%20simulation%20model" title=" simulink simulation model"> simulink simulation model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single%20point%20mooring" title=" single point mooring"> single point mooring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stateflow" title=" stateflow"> stateflow</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46584/simulation-based-control-module-for-offshore-single-point-mooring-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/46584.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">417</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Bicycle Tourism and Sharing Economy (C2C-Tourism): Analysis of the Reciprocity Behavior in the Case of Warmshowers </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jana%20Heimel">Jana Heimel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Franziska%20Drescher"> Franziska Drescher</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lauren%20Ugur"> Lauren Ugur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Graciela%20Kuchle"> Graciela Kuchle</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Sharing platforms are a widely investigated field. However, there is a research gap with a lack of focus on ‘real’ (non-profit-orientated) sharing platforms. The research project addresses this gap by conducting an empirical study on a private peer-to-peer (P2P) network to investigate cooperative behavior from a socio-psychological perspective. In recent years the conversion from possession to accessing is increasingly influencing different sectors, particularly the traveling industry. The number of people participating in hospitality exchange platforms like Airbnb, Couchsurfing, and Warmshowers (WS) is rapidly growing. WS is an increasingly popular online community that is linking cycling tourists and locals. It builds on the idea of the “sharing economy” as a not-for-profit hospitality network for bicycle tourists. Hosts not only provide a sleeping berth and warm shower free of charge but also offer additional services to their guests, such as cooking and washing clothes for them. According to previous studies, they are motivated by the idea of promoting cultural experience and forming new friendships. Trust and reciprocity are supposed to play major roles in the success of such platforms. The objective of this research project is to analyze the reciprocity behavior within the WS community. Reciprocity is the act of giving and taking among each other. Individuals feel obligated to return a favor and often expect to increase their own chances of receiving future benefits for themselves. Consequently, the drivers that incite giving and taking, as well as the motivation for hosts and guests, are examined. Thus, the project investigates a particular tourism offer that contributes to sustainable tourism by analyzing P2P resp. cyclist-to-cyclist, C2C) tourism. C2C tourism is characterized by special hospitality and generosity. To find out what motivations drive the hosts and which determinants drive the sharing cycling economy, an empirical study has been conducted globally through an online survey. The data was gathered through the WS community and comprised responses from more than 10,000 cyclists around the globe. Next to general information mostly comprising quantitative data on bicycle tourism (year/tour distance, duration and budget), qualitative information on traveling with WS as well as hosting was collected. The most important motivations for a traveler is to explore the local culture, to save money, and to make friends. The main reasons to host a guest are to promote the use of bicycles and to make friends, but also to give back and pay forward. WS members prefer to stay with/host cyclists. The results indicate that C2C tourists share homogenous characteristics and a similar philosophy, which is crucial for building mutual trust. Members of WS are generally extremely trustful. The study promotes an ecological form of tourism by combining sustainability, regionality, health, experience and the local communities' cultures. The empirical evidence found and analyzed, despite evident limitations, enabled us to shed light, especially on the issue of motivations and social capital, and on the functioning of ‘sharing’ platforms. Final research results are intended to promote C2C tourism around the globe to further replace conventional by sustainable tourism. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bicycle%20tourism" title="bicycle tourism">bicycle tourism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=homogeneity" title=" homogeneity"> homogeneity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reciprocity" title=" reciprocity"> reciprocity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sharing%20economy" title=" sharing economy"> sharing economy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trust" title=" trust"> trust</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112945/bicycle-tourism-and-sharing-economy-c2c-tourism-analysis-of-the-reciprocity-behavior-in-the-case-of-warmshowers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112945.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">117</span> </span> </div> </div> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
