class="s-lib-box-content"> <div id="s-lg-content-50150326" class=" clearfix"> <p>Globally, open access publishing agreements are gaining traction as a way for the research community, academic libraries and scholarly publishers to work together to find a financially viable path to transition to an open access publishing future. UNSW Library is actively negotiating and evaluating publisher offers to convert Read Only (paywalled subscriptions) agreements to open access publishing agreements while, at the same time, investing in our institutional repository.  In doing so, thereby aligning to the University's <a href="https://www.unsw.edu.au/content/dam/pdfs/governance/policy/2022-01-policies/openaccesspolicy.pdf" target="_blank">Open Access Policy</a> and funder mandates, while increasing the reach and impact of research. This information is not intended to promote submission of research articles to specific publishers.</p> <p>Open access (OA) via the publisher is one of several open access pathways available to you. Protect your rights to your Author Accepted Manuscript and you can make your work open by depositing it to UNSWorks via <a data-auth="NotApplicable" data-linkindex="0" data-safelink="true" href="https://ros.unsw.edu.au/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">ROS</a> even when the publisher version is “closed.” </p> <p>Please note UNSW Library does not pay author-facing article processing charges (APCs).</p> <p><a data-auth="NotApplicable" data-linkindex="1" data-safelink="true" href="https://unsworks.unsw.edu.au/home" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">UNSWorks</a> is UNSW's institutional repository鈥痵howcasing the research outputs of UNSW’s researchers and students. This model requires the Library to continue subscribing to journals from a publisher in order to support the costs of the open access journals. Some agreements have publishing caps, that is a limit on the number of articles that can be published open access under an agreement. Many agreements do not include all journals available for subscription from a publisher. There still may be some page and colour charges. However, UNSW Library continues to subscribe to journals with these publishers. Please check the Library Collection for read access.</p> <ul> <li>American Chemical Society - no agreement could be reached for 2024 through the CAUL consortia.</li> <li>Association of Computer Machinery (ACM) - ACM are transitioning to fully OA by 2026 (expected not confirmed) after which there will be no further "read only" subscriptions. To achieve this, 2023-2025 pricing models significantly ramp up pricing (340% increase) to research intensive institutions such as UNSW, which is not financially viable for UNSW.</li> <li>BMJ - no agreement could be negotiated for 2024 through the CAUL consortia.</li> <li>Cambridge University Press - this agreement is not financially viable at this time. It is reviewed annually.</li> <li>De Gruyter - this agreement is not financially viable at this time. It is reviewed annually.</li> <li>IEEE - no agreement could be reached for 2023 or 2024 through the CAUL consortia.</li> <li>IGI Global - this agreement is not financially beneficial for UNSW at this time. It is reviewed biannually.</li> <li>Journal of Medical Internet Research - this is a gold open access membership model and outside the remit of UNSW Library.</li> <li>Mathematical Sciences Publishers - this agreement is not financially viable at this time. It is reviewed annually.</li> <li>MIT hybrid journals - Publisher is unable to offer institutional based agreements.</li> <li>Oxford University Press - this agreement is not financially viable at this time.
