setLocalMenu"> <div id="contents"> <section> <h1 class="ttl-h1">Involvement in External Initiatives</h1> </section> <section> <h2 class="ttl-h2">United Nations Global Compact</h2> <p>MGC signed the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) promoted by the United Nations in April 2020. At the UN Global Compact, we aim to mobilize a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to create the world we want.<br>The UN Global Compact supports companies to:<br>1. Do business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with Ten Principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption; and<br>2. Take strategic actions to advance broader societal goals, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with an emphasis on collaboration and innovation.<br>MGC’s Sustainability Promotion Principle is in agreement with this approach.</p> <figure class="spaceMT"><img src="/eng/sustainability/img/initiatives_logo01.png" alt="logo: United Nations Global Compact" width="200"></figure> </section> <section> <h2 class="ttl-h2">Japan Chemical Industry Association Responsible Care Committee (Japan Responsible Care Council)</h2> <p>Responsible Care is voluntary activities conducted by chemical industry firms to harmonize business activities with global environment preservation by ensuring environment, safety, and health in all stages of chemical substance life cycles from development, manufacture, distribution, use, and final consumption to disposal.<br>The Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (MGC) supports the main ideas of sustainable development and the creation of a recycling-based society set forth in the declaration agreed on by the nations in the world at the Environmental Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. Accordingly, MGC has been promoting the Responsible Care initiative by participating in the Japan Responsible Care Council (JRCC*) since its inception, becoming a member, and establishing an Integrated Safety Management System.</p> <p class="text-atn">* Operated as the Responsible Care Committee of the Japan Chemical Industry Association since April 2011.</p> <figure class="spaceMT"><img src="/eng/sustainability/img/initiatives_logo02.png" alt="logo: responsible care"></figure> </section> <section> <h2 class="ttl-h2">Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures</h2> <p>TCFD refers to the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, established by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) at the request of G20 with Michael Bloomberg as its chairman, to examine how climate-related information should be disclosed, and how should financial institutions respond. TCFD published its final report in June 2017, and recommends companies to disclose items related to climate change-related risks and opportunities.<br>MGC is reducing greenhouse gas emissions and curtail environmental impacts and in May 2019 signed on to the TCFD and is undertaking measures to disclose information in accordance with the TCFD report.</p> <figure class="spaceMT"><img src="/eng/sustainability/img/initiatives_logo03.png" alt="logo: TCFD" width="300"></figure> </section> <section> <h2 class="ttl-h2">GX League</h2> <p>In 2022, Japan established the GX League, a forum for cooperation between a group of companies and the government, universities, and academic institutions in order to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets and increase industrial competitiveness by using Japan’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.<br>MGC supports the basic concept and participate the GX（Green Transformation) League.</p> <figure class="spaceMT"><img src="/eng/sustainability/img/initiatives_logo07.png" alt="logo: GX League" width="200"></figure> </section> <section> <h2 class="ttl-h2">Challenge Zero</h2> <p>“Challenge Zero”(Challenge Net Zero Carbon Innovation) is a new initiative by Keidanren (Japan Business Federation), in collaboration with the Japanese government, aiming to proactively publicize and support actions in Japan and overseas to create innovation taken by companies and organizations toward the “decarbonized society” which the Paris Agreement (the international framework on climate change) sets as the long-term goal.<br>MGC indicated its agreement with the Keidanren Declaration on Challenge Zero in March 2020 and is tackling the challenges of innovation for the creation of a decarbonized society.</p> <figure class="spaceMT"><img src="/eng/sustainability/img/initiatives_logo04.png" alt="logo: Challenge Zero" width="300"></figure> </section> <section> <h2 class="ttl-h2">Tokyo Zero-emission Innovation Bay</h2> <p>The Tokyo Zero-emission Innovation Bay, made up of research laboratories, factories, business offices, research institutes, and universities located in the Tokyo Bay area of various energy suppliers and users in the electric power, gas, petroleum, chemical, electric machinery, automobile, and other industries, is the world’s largest council for collaboration on research and development of zero emissions technology, its verifications, and the dissemination of information. MGC expressed its agreement with the objectives of the Tokyo Zero-emission Innovation Bay in June 2020 and is working to create innovations for zero emissions.</p> <figure class="spaceMT"><img src="/eng/sustainability/img/initiatives_logo05.png" alt="logo: Tokyo Zero-emission Innovation Bay" width="200"></figure> </section> <section> <h2 class="ttl-h2">Japan Hydrogen Association</h2> <p>Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. participated in the "Japan Hydrogen Association" (hereinafter referred to as the "Council"), a new organization established on December 7, 2020 that promotes global collaboration in the hydrogen sector and the formation of hydrogen supply chains.<br>We agreed and decided to participate in the council's objective of "building a hydrogen society at an early stage through the realization of social implementation projects as an industry-wide and open organization that takes a panoramic view of the entire supply chain."<br>The methanol and ammonia in our products become hydrogen-carrier-and CO2-free fuels. By combining these with hydrogen and CCUS technologies, they become candidates for building decarbonizing energy systems.<br>We will make an active effort to realize the purpose of "building a
