In this paper, we address the possibility of accessing nucleon-to-pion ($蟺N$) TDAs from $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- 蟺^0$ reaction with the future PANDA detector at the FAIR facility. At high center of mass energy and high invariant mass squared of the lepton pair $q^2$, the amplitude of the signal channel $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- 蟺^0$ admits a QCD factorized description in terms of $蟺N$ TDAs and nucleon Distribution Amplitudes (DAs) in the forward and backward kinematic regimes. Assuming the validity of this factorized description, we perform feasibility studies for measuring $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- 蟺^0$ with the PANDA detector. Detailed simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as on rejection of the most severe background channel, i.e. $\bar{p}p \to 蟺^+蟺^- 蟺^0$ were performed for the center of mass energy squared $s = 5$ GeV$^2$ and $s = 10$ GeV$^2$, in the kinematic regions $3.0 < q^2 < 4.3$ GeV$^2$ and $5 < q^2 < 9$ GeV$^2$, respectively, with a neutral pion scattered in the forward or backward cone $| \cos胃_{蟺^0}| > 0.5 $ in the proton-antiproton center of mass frame. Results of the simulation show that the particle identification capabilities of the PANDA detector will allow to achieve a background rejection factor of $5\cdot 10^7$ ($1\cdot 10^7$) at low (high) $q^2$ for $s=5$ GeV$^2$, and of $1\cdot 10^8$ ($6\cdot 10^6$) at low (high) $q^2$ for $s=10$ GeV$^2$, while keeping the signal reconstruction efficiency at around $40\%$. At both energies, a clean lepton signal can be reconstructed with the expected statistics corresponding to $2$ fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. This is the most precise result to date, due to the largest $蠄(3686)$ sample, improved signal reconstruction efficiency, good simulation of the detector performance, and a more accurate knowledge of the continuum contribution. Using the branching fraction of $J/蠄\to 蠅K^+ K^-$, the ratio $\mathcal{B}(蠄(3868) \to K^+K^-) / \mathcal{B}(J/蠄\to K^+K^-)$ is determined to be $(18.4 \pm 3.7)\,\%$. The cross section of $e^+e^-\rightarrow蠄(3770)\rightarrow p\bar{p}$, $蟽(e^+e^-\rightarrow蠄(3770)\rightarrow p\bar{p})$, is found to have two solutions, determined to be ($0.059\pm0.032\pm0.012$) pb with the phase angle $蠁= (255.8\pm37.9\pm4.8)^\circ$ ($<$0.11 pb at the 90% confidence level), or $蟽(e^+e^-\rightarrow蠄(3770)\rightarrow p\bar{p}) = (2.57\pm0.12\pm0.12$) pb with $蠁= (266.9\pm6.1\pm0.9)^\circ$ both of which agree with a destructive interference. Using the obtained cross section of $蠄(3770)\rightarrow p\bar{p}$, the cross section of $p\bar{p}\rightarrow 蠄(3770)$, which is useful information for the future PANDA experiment, is estimated to be either ($9.8\pm5.7$) nb ($<17.2$ nb at 90% C.L.) or $(425.6\pm42.9)$ nb. △ Less

Submitted 5 August, 2014; v1 submitted 24 March, 2014; originally announced March 2014.

Journal ref: Phys.Lett. In the 蟺^\pm h_c mass spectrum, a distinct structure, referred to as Z_c(4020), is observed at 4.02 GeV/c^2. The Z_c(4020) carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. Based on a partial reconstruction technique, the Born cross section is measured to be $(137\pm9\pm15)$pb. We observe a structure near the $(D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{\pm}$ threshold in the $蟺^\mp$ recoil mass spectrum, which we denote as the $Z^{\pm}_c(4025)$. The measured mass and width of the structure are $(4026.3\pm2.6\pm3.7)$MeV/c$^2$ and $(24.8\pm5.6\pm7.7)$MeV, respectively. Its production ratio $\frac{蟽(e^+e^-\to Z^{\pm}_c(4025)蟺^\mp \to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{\pm} 蟺^\mp)}{蟽(e^+e^-\to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{\pm} 蟺^\mp)}$ is determined to be $0.65\pm0.09\pm0.06$. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. △ Less

Submitted 19 February, 2014; v1 submitted 13 August, 2013; originally announced August 2013.

Comments: 7 pages, 4 figures, 1 table; version accepted to be published in PRL

Journal ref: Phys. The measurement of ${\cal B}[蠄(3686) \to 蟺^{+}蟺^{-}J/蠄]$ confirms the CLEO-c measurement, and is apparently larger than the others. The measured $J/蠄$ leptonic decay branching fractions agree with previous experiments within one standard deviation. These results lead to ${\cal B}[J/蠄\to l^+l^-] = (5.978 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.040)%$ by averaging over the $e^{+}e^{-}$ and $渭^{+}渭^{-}$ channels and a ratio of ${\cal B}[J/蠄\to e^+e^-] / {\cal B}[J/蠄\to 渭^+渭^-] = 1.0017 \pm 0.0017 \pm 0.0033$, which tests $e$-$渭$ universality at the four tenths of a percent level. All the measurements presented in this paper are the most precise in the world to date. △ Less

Submitted 3 July, 2013; originally announced July 2013.

Comments: 13 pages, 6 figures; To be submitted to PRD

arXiv:1305.5333 [pdf, ps, other]

hep-ex

doi 10.1103/PhysRevD.88.091502

Observation of a structure at 1.84 GeV/c$^2$ in the $3(蟺^+蟺^-)$ mass spectrum in $J/蠄\rightarrow 纬3(蟺^+蟺^-)$ decays

Authors: BESIII Collaboration, M. We observe a structure at around 3.9 GeV/c^2 in the 蟺^\pm J/psi mass spectrum, which we refer to as the Z_c(3900). If interpreted as a new particle, it is unusual in that it carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the 蟺^\pm J/psi invariant mass spectrum, neglecting interference, results in a mass of (3899.0\pm 3.6\pm 4.9) MeV/c^2 and a width of (46\pm 10\pm 20) MeV. Its production ratio is measured to be R=\frac{蟽(e+e- to 蟺^\pm Z_c(3900)^\mp to pi+pi-J/psi))} {蟽(e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi)}=(21.5\pm 3.3\pm 7.5)%. The STT encloses a Micro-Vertex-Detector (MVD) for the inner tracking and is followed in beam direction by a set of GEM-stations. The tasks of the STT are the measurement of the particle momentum from the reconstructed trajectory and the measurement of the specific energy-loss for a particle identification. Dedicated simulations with full analysis studies of certain proton-antiproton reactions, identified as being benchmark tests for the whole PANDA scientific program, have been performed to test the STT layout and performance.
