If you are arriving by train you should exit the station at the front entrance and walk along the A579 passing Morrisons on your right. The entrance to the Albert Halls is on the right hand side of the building. This year’s conference focuses on the digital institution and explores how technology innovation can support and develop every aspect of university and college life, for teachers and learners, researchers and developers, service directors and senior managers.</p> <p dir="ltr">The UK higher and further education sector is going through an unprecedented period of change and flux and institutions are facing enormous challenges around funding and student retention. At the same time, new forms of technology supported teaching and learning are emerging. MOOCs are being heralded in some quarters as a new alternative to traditional campus based courses, with a unique ability to widen access and engagement. Others question their ability to revolutionise higher education, and engage disenfranchised learners; and focus instead on more diverse forms open education policy and practice.</p> <p dir="ltr">So how are universities and colleges addressing the many challenges they face? Cetis has always believed that technology and standards have a crucial role to play in enabling institutions to become more creative, flexible and efficient, to meet the increasingly diverse demands of their learners and to enhance the student experience. This year we are delighted to welcome Audrey Watters and Phil Richards as our keynote speakers. Audrey is a technology journalist and author of Hack Education (<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20150408211237/http://audreywatters.com/">http://audreywatters.com/</a>) a blog exploring how technology can support creativity in education. Phil is the Chief Innovation Officer at Jisc and will talk about how Jisc will be supporting innovation in the future.</p> <p dir="ltr">In depth parallel sessions will cover a diverse range of topics including learning analytics, systems integration, ebooks, the Learning Resource Metadata Initiative, MOOCs, open education policy and practice, and open knowledge.</p> <p dir="ltr">In addition to providing an invaluable opportunity to network with a national / international community of technology innovators, the Cetis conference is our chance to touch base with our community, to identify new developments and issues of concern, and to take a snapshot of technology innovation across the sector.</p> <p dir="ltr">This year the conference will be held at our host institution, the University of Bolton.
