for I, the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>, am a jealous<MH7067> God<MH410>, inflicting<MH6485> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>punishment<MH5771> of the fathers<MH1> on the children<MH1121>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>even on the third<MH8029> and fourth<MH7256> <i>generations</i> of those who hate<MH8130> Me, <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>but showing<MH6213a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>favor<MH2617a> to thousands<MH505>, to those who love<MH157> Me and keep<MH8104> My commandments<MH4687>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>‘You shall not take<MH5375> the name<MH8034> of the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>in vain<MH7723>, for the LORD<MH3068> will not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>leave<MH5352> unpunished<MH5352> the one who<MH834> takes<MH5375> His name<MH8034> in vain<MH7723>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>‘Keep<MH8104> the Sabbath<MH7676> day<MH3117> to treat<MH6942> it as<MH6942> holy<MH6942>, as the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> commanded<MH6680> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>For six<MH8337a> days<MH3117> you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>shall labor<MH5647> and do<MH6213a> all<MH3605> your work<MH4399>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>but the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117> is a Sabbath<MH7676> of the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>; you shall not do<MH6213a> any<MH3605> work<MH4399> <i>that day,</i> you or your son<MH1121> or your daughter<MH1323>, or your male<MH5650> slave<MH5650> or your female<MH519> slave<MH519>, or your ox<MH7794>, your donkey<MH2543>, or any<MH3605> of your cattle<MH929>, or your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>resident<MH1616> who<MH834> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>stays with you, so<MH4616> that<MH4616> your male<MH5650> slave<MH5650> and your female<MH519> slave<MH519> may rest<MH5117> as well as you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And you shall remember<MH2142> that you were a slave<MH5650> in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, and the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> brought<MH3318> you out<MH3318> of there<MH8033> by a mighty<MH2389> hand<MH3027> and an outstretched<MH5186> arm<MH2220>; therefore<MH5921, 3651> the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> commanded<MH6680> you to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>celebrate<MH6213a> the Sabbath<MH7676> day<MH3117>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>‘Honor<MH3513> your father<MH1> and your mother<MH517>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> has commanded<MH6680> you, so<MH4616> that<MH4616> your days<MH3117> may be prolonged<MH748> and that it may go<MH3190> well<MH3190> for you on the land<MH127> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> is giving<MH5414> you. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>‘You shall not murder<MH7523>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>‘You shall not commit<MH5003> adultery<MH5003>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>‘You shall not steal<MH1589>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>‘You shall not give<MH6030a> false<MH7723> testimony<MH5707> against your neighbor<MH7453>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>‘You shall not covet<MH2530> your neighbor’s<MH7453> wife<MH802>, nor<MH3808> desire<MH183> your neighbor’s<MH7453> house<MH1004>, his field<MH7704>, his male<MH5650> slave<MH5650> or his female<MH519> slave<MH519>, his ox<MH7794>, his donkey<MH2543>, or anything<MH3605> that belongs to your neighbor<MH7453>.’ <p class="hdg">Moses Interceded</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>“These<MH428> words<MH1697> the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to your whole<MH3605> assembly<MH6951> at the mountain<MH2022> from the midst<MH8432> of the fire<MH784>, <i>from</i> the cloud<MH6051>, and <i>from</i> the thick<MH6205> darkness<MH6205>, with a great<MH1419> voice<MH6963>, and He added<MH3254> nothing<MH3808> more<MH3254>. He wrote<MH3789> them on two<MH8147> tablets<MH3871> of stone<MH68> and gave<MH5414> them to me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And when you heard<MH8085> the voice<MH6963> from the midst<MH8432> of the darkness<MH2822>, while the mountain<MH2022> was burning<MH1197a> with fire<MH784>, you approached<MH7126> me, all<MH3605> the heads<MH7218> of your tribes<MH7626> and your elders<MH2205>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>You said<MH559>, ‘Behold<MH2005>, the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> has shown<MH7200> us His glory<MH3519b> and His greatness<MH1433>, and we have heard<MH8085> His voice<MH6963> from the midst<MH8432> of the fire<MH784>; we have seen<MH7200> today<MH2088, 3117> that God<MH430> speaks<MH1696> with mankind<MH120>, yet he lives<MH2421a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> then, why<MH4100> should we die<MH4191>? For this<MH2088> great<MH1419> fire<MH784> will consume<MH398> us; if<MH518> we hear<MH8085> the voice<MH6963> of the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> any<MH5750> longer<MH5750>, then we will die<MH4191>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>For who<MH4310> <i>is there</i> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>humanity<MH1320> who<MH834> has heard<MH8085> the voice<MH6963> of the living<MH2416a> God<MH430> speaking<MH1696> from the midst<MH8432> of the fire<MH784>, as we <i>have,</i> and lived<MH2421a>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>Go<MH7126> near<MH7126> and listen<MH8085> to everything<MH3605> that the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> says<MH559>; then speak<MH1696> to us everything<MH3605> that the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> speaks<MH1696> to you, and we will listen<MH8085> and do<MH6213a> <i>it.</i>’ <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/5-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>“Now the LORD<MH3068> heard<MH8085> the sound<MH6963> of your words<MH1697> when you spoke<MH1696> to me, and the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, ‘I have heard<MH8085> the sound<MH6963> of the words<MH1697> of this<MH2088> people<MH5971a> which<MH834> they have spoken<MH1696> to you.
