enterprise sector can be characterized as organizations that aim to solve social problems with financial sustainability and using market mechanisms. This sector has shown an increasing interest worldwide. Despite the growth and relevance of the sector, there is still a gap regarding the assessment of the social impact resulting from the initiatives of the organizations in this field. A number of metrics have been designed worldwide to evaluate the impact of social enterprises (e.g., IRIS, GIIRS, BACO), as well as some ad hoc studies that have been carried out, mainly in the microcredit sector, but there is still a gap to be filled in the development of research in social impact evaluation. Therefore, this research seeks to evaluate the social impact of two social enterprises (Terra Nova and Vivenda) in the area of housing in Brazil. To evaluate these impacts and their dimensions, we conducted an exploratory research, through three focus groups, thirty in-depth interviews and a survey with beneficiaries of both organizations. The results allowed us to evaluate how the two organizations were able to create a deep social impact in the populations served. Terra Nova has a more collective perspective, with a clear benefit of social inclusion and improvement of the community’s infrastructure, while Vivenda has a more individualized perspective, improving self-esteem, sociability and family coexistence. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brazil" title="Brazil">Brazil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=housing" title=" housing"> housing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20enterprise" title=" social enterprise"> social enterprise</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20impact%20evaluation" title=" social impact evaluation"> social impact evaluation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64778/social-impact-evaluation-in-the-housing-sector" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64778.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">443</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> Methodology of Preliminary Design and Performance of a Axial-Flow Fan through CFD</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ramiro%20Gustavo%20Ramirez%20Camacho">Ramiro Gustavo Ramirez Camacho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Waldir%20%20De%20Oliveira"> Waldir De Oliveira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eraldo%20Cruz%20Dos%20Santos"> Eraldo Cruz Dos Santos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Edna%20Raimunda%20%20Da%20Silva"> Edna Raimunda Da Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Marie%20%20Arispe%20Angulo"> Tania Marie Arispe Angulo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carlos%20Eduardo%20Alves%20%20Da%20Costa"> Carlos Eduardo Alves Da Costa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T%C3%A2nia%20Cristina%20Alves%20%20Dos%20Reis"> Tânia Cristina Alves Dos Reis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It presents a preliminary design methodology of an axial fan based on the lift wing theory and the potential vortex hypothesis. The literature considers a study of acoustic and engineering expertise to model a fan with low noise. Axial fans with inadequate intake geometry, often suffer poor condition of the flow at the entrance, varying from velocity profiles spatially asymmetric to swirl floating with respect to time, this produces random forces acting on the blades. This produces broadband gust noise which in most cases triggers the tonal noise. The analysis of the axial flow fan will be conducted for the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations and models of turbulence in steady and transitory (RANS - URANS) 3-D, in order to find an efficient aerodynamic design, with low noise and suitable for industrial installation. Therefore, the process will require the use of computational optimization methods, aerodynamic design methodologies, and numerical methods as CFD- Computational Fluid Dynamics. The objective is the development of the methodology of the construction axial fan, provide of design the geometry of the blade, and evaluate aerodynamic performance <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Axial%20fan%20design" title="Axial fan design">Axial fan design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CFD" title=" CFD"> CFD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Preliminary%20Design" title=" Preliminary Design"> Preliminary Design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Optimization" title=" Optimization"> Optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58823/methodology-of-preliminary-design-and-performance-of-a-axial-flow-fan-through-cfd" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58823.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">395</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> Surgical Collaboration in Managing Spinal Cord Compression Due to a Pre-Vertebral Chordoma: A Case Report</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rose%20Virginy%20S.%20Bautista">Rose Virginy S. The complexity of these tumors -given the rarity, location, and involvement of neurovascular structures- imposes a challenge in the diagnosis and management. We herein report a case of spinal cord compression due to a prevertebral cervical chordoma. The patient presented with a gradually enlarging lateral neck mass, with progressive bilateral extremity weakness and urinary incontinence; preoperative biopsy showed chordoma. A multidisciplinary approach for the management of this case was made, involving neurosurgery, head and neck surgery, and radiation oncology services. Surgical collaboration between the two cutting services was done to have a radical excision of the tumor and spinal cord decompression. The patient was then referred for adjuvant radiation therapy. With this collaborative treatment strategy, more comprehensive and quality care could be provided to our patients. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chordoma" title="chordoma">chordoma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surgical%20collaboration" title=" surgical collaboration"> surgical collaboration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spinal%20cord%20compression" title=" spinal cord compression"> spinal cord compression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neurosurgery" title=" neurosurgery"> neurosurgery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=head%20and%20neck%20surgery" title=" head and neck surgery"> head and neck surgery</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177775/surgical-collaboration-in-managing-spinal-cord-compression-due-to-a-pre-vertebral-chordoma-a-case-report" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177775.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">68</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">44</span> Sustainable Tourism and Tourism Product Development Conference - Praga</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Rita%20Conde">Ana Rita Conde</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pilar%20Mota"> Pilar Mota</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T%C3%A2nia%20Botelho"> Tânia Botelho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carlos%20Rodrigues"> Carlos Rodrigues</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osvaldo%20Silva"> Osvaldo Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%81urea%20Sousa"> Áurea Sousa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Suzana%20Caldeira"> Suzana Caldeira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isabel%20Rego"> Isabel Rego</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J%C3%A9ssica%20Pacheco"> Jéssica Pacheco</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Families with children with ASD are interested in traveling but end up not traveling due to the obstacles they face and not finding inclusive traveling offers. The decision that led us to choose IKEA for our casework has to do with the long history of the company since the 1940s and its high internationalization in 63 different markets. The company also has clear financial reports which aided us in the making of the present essay and naturally, was a factor that contributed to our decision. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ikea" title="Ikea">Ikea</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20risk" title=" financial risk"> financial risk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=risk%20management" title=" risk management"> risk management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hedge" title=" hedge"> hedge</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186752/a-financial-analysis-of-the-current-state-of-ikea-a-case-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186752.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">52</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">42</span> Performance Assessment of Multi-Level Ensemble for Multi-Class Problems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rodolfo%20Lorbieski">Rodolfo Lorbieski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Modesto%20Nassar"> Silvia Modesto Nassar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Many supervised machine learning tasks require decision making across numerous different classes. Multi-class classification has several applications, such as face recognition, text recognition and medical diagnostics. The objective of this article is to analyze an adapted method of Stacking in multi-class problems, which combines ensembles within the ensemble itself. For this purpose, a training similar to Stacking was used, but with three levels, where the final decision-maker (level 2) performs its training by combining outputs from the tree-based pair of meta-classifiers (level 1) from Bayesian families. These are in turn trained by pairs of base classifiers (level 0) of the same family. This strategy seeks to promote diversity among the ensembles forming the meta-classifier level 2. Three performance measures were used: (1) accuracy, (2) area under the ROC curve, and (3) time for three factors: (a) datasets, (b) experiments and (c) levels. To compare the factors, ANOVA three-way test was executed for each performance measure, considering 5 datasets by 25 experiments by 3 levels. A triple interaction between factors was observed only in time. The accuracy and area under the ROC curve presented similar results, showing a double interaction between level and experiment, as well as for the dataset factor. It was concluded that level 2 had an average performance above the other levels and that the proposed method is especially efficient for multi-class problems when compared to binary problems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stacking" title="stacking">stacking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-layers" title=" multi-layers"> multi-layers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ensemble" title=" ensemble"> ensemble</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-class" title=" multi-class"> multi-class</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77466/performance-assessment-of-multi-level-ensemble-for-multi-class-problems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77466.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">269</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">41</span> Implementation and Validation of Therapeutic Tourism Products for Families With Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder in Azores Islands: “Azores All in Blue” Project</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Rita%20Conde">Ana Rita Conde</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pilar%20Mota"> Pilar Mota</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T%C3%A2nia%20Botelho"> Tânia Botelho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Suzana%20Caldeira"> Suzana Caldeira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isabel%20Rego"> Isabel Rego</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jessica%20Pacheco"> Jessica Pacheco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osvaldo%20Silva"> Osvaldo Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%81urea%20Sousa"> Áurea Sousa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Tourism promotes well-being and health to children with ASD and their families. The study found that the teaching of the bank reconciliation process will change to introduce new replacement source documents for digital payments, and this impacts the teaching of reconciling differences. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bank%20reconciliation" title="bank reconciliation">bank reconciliation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internal%20control" title=" internal control"> internal control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accounting%20education" title=" accounting education"> accounting education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=source%20documents" title=" source documents"> source documents</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/158105/the-outcome-of-the-discontinuation-of-cheques-on-bank-reconciliation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/158105.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">108</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Energy Efficiency Analysis of Electrical Submersible Pump on Mature Oil Field Offshore Java Sea</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marda%20Vidrianto">Marda Vidrianto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Surya%20Utami"> Tania Surya Utami</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) is an artificial lift of choice to produce oil on Offshore Java Sea. It is selected based on the production rate capacity and running life expectation. ESP performance in a mature field is highly affected by oil well conditions. The presence of sand, scale, gas, and low influx will create unstable ESP operation hence lowering the run life expectation and system efficiency. This paper reviews the current energy usage and efficiency on every part of the ESP system. The hydraulic and electrical losses, as well as system efficiency for each well, are calculated to identify energy losses and the possibility for improvement. It is shown that high back pressure on the system and low-efficiency pump are the major contributors to energy losses. It was found that optimized production rate and the use of advanced technology on pump and motor unit could improve energy efficiency. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=advance%20technology" title="advance technology">advance technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20efficiency" title=" energy efficiency"> energy efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ESP" title=" ESP"> ESP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mature%20field" title=" mature field"> mature field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=production%20rate" title=" production rate"> production rate</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93119/energy-efficiency-analysis-of-electrical-submersible-pump-on-mature-oil-field-offshore-java-sea" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93119.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">342</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">38</span> Thermoluminescence Study of Cu Doped Lithium Tetra Borate Samples Synthesized by Water/Solution Assisted Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Swarnapriya%20Thiyagarajan">Swarnapriya Thiyagarajan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Modesto%20Antonio%20Sosa%20Aquino"> Modesto Antonio Sosa Aquino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Miguel%20Vallejo%20Hernandez"> Miguel Vallejo Hernandez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Senthilkumar%20Kalaiselvan%20Dhivyaraj"> Senthilkumar Kalaiselvan Dhivyaraj</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jayaramakrishnan%20Velusamy"> Jayaramakrishnan Velusamy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper the lithium tetra borate (Li2B4O7) was prepared by used water/solution assisted synthesis method. Once finished the synthesization, Copper (Cu) were used to doping material with Li2B4O7 in order to enhance its thermo luminescent properties. The heating temperature parameters were 750°C for 2 hr and 150°C for 2hr. The samples produced by water assisted method were doped at different doping percentage (0.02%, 0.04%, 0.06%, 0.08%, 0.12%, 0.5%, 0.1%, and 1%) of Cu.The characteristics and identification of Li2B4O7 (undoped and doped) were determined in four tests. They are X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Photoluminescence (PL), Ultra violet visible spectroscopy (UV Vis). As it is evidence from the XRD and SEM results the obtained Li2B4O7 and Li2B4O7 doping with Cu was confirmed and also confirmed the chemical compositition and their morphologies. The obtained lithium tetraborate XRD pattern result was verified with the reference data of lithium tetraborate with tetragonal structure from JCPDS. The glow curves of Li2B4O7 and Li2B4O7 : Cu were obtained by thermo luminescence (TLD) reader (Harshaw 3500). The pellets were irradiated with different kind of dose (58mGy, 100mGy, 500mGy, and 945mGy) by using an X-ray source. Finally this energy response was also compared with TLD100. The order of kinetics (b), frequency factor (S) and activation energy (E) or the trapping parameters were calculated using peak shape method. Especially Li2B4O7: Cu (0.1%) presents good glow curve in all kind of doses. The experimental results showed that this Li2B4O7: Cu could have good potential applications in radiation dosimetry. The main purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of synthesis on the TL properties of doped lithium tetra borate Li2B4O7. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dosimetry" title="dosimetry">dosimetry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=irradiation" title=" irradiation"> irradiation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lithium%20tetraborate" title=" lithium tetraborate"> lithium tetraborate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermoluminescence" title=" thermoluminescence"> thermoluminescence</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69681/thermoluminescence-study-of-cu-doped-lithium-tetra-borate-samples-synthesized-by-watersolution-assisted-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69681.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">276</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Automatic Lead Qualification with Opinion Mining in Customer Relationship Management Projects</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Victor%20Radich">Victor Radich</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Basso"> Tania Basso</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Regina%20Moraes"> Regina Moraes</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Lead qualification is one of the main procedures in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) projects. Its main goal is to identify potential consumers who have the ideal characteristics to establish a profitable and long-term relationship with a certain organization. Social networks can be an important source of data for identifying and qualifying leads since interest in specific products or services can be identified from the users’ expressed feelings of (dis)satisfaction. In this context, this work proposes the use of machine learning techniques and sentiment analysis as an extra step in the lead qualification process in order to improve it. In addition to machine learning models, sentiment analysis or opinion mining can be used to understand the evaluation that the user makes of a particular service, product, or brand. The results obtained so far have shown that it is possible to extract data from social networks and combine the techniques for a more complete classification. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lead%20qualification" title="lead qualification">lead qualification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sentiment%20analysis" title=" sentiment analysis"> sentiment analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=opinion%20mining" title=" opinion mining"> opinion mining</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CRM" title=" CRM"> CRM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lead%20scoring" title=" lead scoring"> lead scoring</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183496/automatic-lead-qualification-with-opinion-mining-in-customer-relationship-management-projects" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183496.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">85</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> Synthesis, Characterization and Coating of the Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles on Cotton Fabric by Mechanical Thermo-Fixation Techniques to Impart Antimicrobial Activity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Imana%20Shahrin%20Tania">Imana Shahrin Tania</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Ali"> Mohammad Ali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present study reports the synthesis, characterization and application of nano-sized zinc-oxide (ZnO) particles on a cotton fabric surface. The aim of the investigations is to impart the antimicrobial activity on textile cloth. Nanoparticle is synthesized by wet chemical method from zinc sulphate and sodium hydroxide. SEM (scanning electron micrograph) images are taken to demonstrate the surface morphology of nanoparticles. XRD analysis is done to determine the crystal size of the nanoparticle. With the conformation of nanoformation, the cotton woven fabric is treated with ZnO nanoparticle by mechanical thermo-fixation (pad-dry-cure) technique. To increase the wash durability of nano treated fabric, an acrylic binder is used as a fixing agent. The treated fabric shows up to 90% bacterial reduction for S. aureus (Staphylococcus aureus) and 87% for E. coli (<em>Escherichia coli) </em>which is appreciable for bacteria protective clothing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanoparticle" title="nanoparticle">nanoparticle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zinc%20oxide" title=" zinc oxide"> zinc oxide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cotton%20fabric" title=" cotton fabric"> cotton fabric</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibacterial%20activity" title=" antibacterial activity"> antibacterial activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=binder" title=" binder"> binder</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115927/synthesis-characterization-and-coating-of-the-zinc-oxide-nanoparticles-on-cotton-fabric-by-mechanical-thermo-fixation-techniques-to-impart-antimicrobial-activity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115927.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">132</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">35</span> Effect of Linear Thermal Gradient on Steady-State Creep Behavior of Isotropic Rotating Disc</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Minto%20Rattan">Minto Rattan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Bose"> Tania Bose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neeraj%20Chamoli"> Neeraj Chamoli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present paper investigates the effect of linear thermal gradient on the steady-state creep behavior of rotating isotropic disc using threshold stress based Sherby&rsquo;s creep law. The plate temperature is assumed to follow a power law of the distance from the leading edge. When digital activism was first born in the early 1990s, it was primarily used by groups of organized political activists. However, with the advent of social media, online activism has filtered down to the individual- one who does not necessarily belong to or identify with an agenda, group, or political party. A large part of digital activism today stems from the individual’s notion of what is right and wrong. This gives rise to a discourse around descriptive ethics and the implications of the independent digital activist. Although digital activism has paved the way for and bolstered support for causes like the MeToo Movement and Black Lives Matter, the lack of a unified, organized body has led to counterintuitive progressions and suspicions regarding the movements. The paper introduces the ideas of 'clout' culture, click baits, and clicktivism (the phenomenon where activism is reduced to a blind following of the online trends), to discuss the impacts of exclusive digital activism. By using Jeremy Bentham's utilitarian approach to ethics, that places emphasis on the best possible outcome for a society, the paper will show how individual online activism reaching for a larger, more common end can sometimes lead to an undermining of that end, not only in the online space but also how it manifests in the real world. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20activism" title="digital activism">digital activism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethics" title=" ethics"> ethics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=independent%20digital%20activist" title=" independent digital activist"> independent digital activist</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=utilitarianism" title=" utilitarianism"> utilitarianism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127981/digital-activism-and-the-individual-a-utilitarian-perspective" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127981.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">125</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> Characterization and Comparative Analysis of North Bengal Sand</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marzia%20%20Hoque%20Tania">Marzia Hoque Tania</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oishy%20Roy"> Oishy Roy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ASW%20%20Kurny"> ASW Kurny</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fahmida%20Gulshan"> Fahmida Gulshan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents results of the investigation on the characterization of silica sand of northern region of Bangladesh on the basis of material composition, particle shape, and size, density, transportation, crystallinity, etc. before and after upgradation. The raw sand samples collected from Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat district were studied and compared for the prospect silica as a high valued commodity rather than heavy minerals. The raw sand particles were colorful in appearance with varying particle size distribution. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed uniformity in grain size and mineralogical composition. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis indicated the silica content of the as-received sample to be 75%. Thermogravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) did not detect the presence of any organic material. These tests revealed the sample to be alpha-quartz. Samples were washed with organic and inorganic acid with a combination of varying rotation speed, concentration, solid-liquid ratio. Experiments showed the silica content could be enhanced to more than 85% by washing with 15% sulphuric acid in room temperature. The regulation of women’s bodies and desires has often been accomplished via gender ideologies and norms that ascribe power to men over women. Within Latino communities, gender ideologies like marianismo provide scripts by which women are expected to adhere submissiveness, purity, and putting others’ needs before their own. Prior work on sexuality-related topics among Latinas has almost exclusively examined the roles of risky behavior, partner violence, and gender roles on psychological and health outcomes. it know little about positive aspects of Latinas’ sexuality, such as their perspectives on sexual excitation and inhibition. Moreover, we know little about Latina’s sexuality in relation to marianismo. In this study, it ask the following questions (1) What are Latina’s perspectives on sexual excitation/inhibition? Do they vary by demographic variables (e.g., education, religiosity); (2) Does endorsement of marianismo among Latina women predict their perspectives on sexual excitation/sexual inhibition? and (3) Does endorsement of double standard (mediator variable) mediate the relation between marianismo (Independent) and sexual excitation/sexual inhibition? The results of this study shed light on effects of culturally specific gender ideologies like marianismo on women’s sexualities and have implications for culturally informed and gender-affirming policies seeking to better support Latinas’ sexual health. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural%20beliefs" title="cultural beliefs">cultural beliefs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=latinas" title=" latinas"> latinas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marianismo" title=" marianismo"> marianismo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sexuality" title=" sexuality"> sexuality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sexual%20inhibition" title=" sexual inhibition"> sexual inhibition</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172248/guilty-pleasure-the-relation-between-marianismo-and-latinas-sexuality" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172248.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">70</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Modeling the Effect of Thermal Gradation on Steady-State Creep Behavior of Isotropic Rotating Disc Made of Functionally Graded Material</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Bose">Tania Bose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Minto%20Rattan"> Minto Rattan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neeraj%20Chamoli"> Neeraj Chamoli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, an attempt has been made to study the effect of thermal gradation on the steady-state creep behavior of rotating isotropic disc made of functionally graded material using threshold stress based Sherby&rsquo;s creep law. It is observed that radial and tangential stresses show minor variation and the strain rates vary significantly in the presence of thermal gradation as compared to disc having uniform temperature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=creep" title="creep">creep</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=isotropic" title=" isotropic"> isotropic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steady-state" title=" steady-state"> steady-state</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20gradation" title=" thermal gradation"> thermal gradation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58527/modeling-the-effect-of-thermal-gradation-on-steady-state-creep-behavior-of-isotropic-rotating-disc-made-of-functionally-graded-material" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58527.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">233</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> CSPG4 Molecular Target in Canine Melanoma, Osteosarcoma and Mammary Tumors for Novel Therapeutic Strategies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paola%20Modesto">Paola Modesto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Floriana%20Fruscione"> Floriana Fruscione</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isabella%20Martini"> Isabella Martini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Simona%20Perga"> Simona Perga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Federica%20Riccardo"> Federica Riccardo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mariateresa%20Camerino"> Mariateresa Camerino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Davide%20Giacobino"> Davide Giacobino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Gola"> Cecilia Gola</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luca%20Licenziato"> Luca Licenziato</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elisabetta%20Razzuoli"> Elisabetta Razzuoli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katia%20Varello"> Katia Varello</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lorella%20Maniscalco"> Lorella Maniscalco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elena%20Bozzetta"> Elena Bozzetta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Angelo%20Ferrari"> Angelo Ferrari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Canine and human melanoma, osteosarcoma (OSA), and mammary carcinomas are aggressive tumors with common characteristics making dogs a good model for comparative oncology. Novel therapeutic strategies against these tumors could be useful to both species. In humans, chondroitin sulphate proteoglycan 4 (CSPG4) is a marker involved in tumor progression and could be a candidate target for immunotherapy. The anti-CSPG4 DNA electrovaccination has shown to be an effective approach for canine malignant melanoma (CMM) [1]. An immunohistochemistry evaluation of CSPG4 expression in tumour tissue is generally performed prior to electrovaccination. To assess the possibility to perform a rapid molecular evaluation and in order to validate these spontaneous canine tumors as the model for human studies, we investigate the CSPG4 gene expression by RT qPCR in CMM, OSA, and canine mammary tumors (CMT). The total RNA was extracted from RNAlater stored tissue samples (CMM n=16; OSA n=13; CMT n=6; five paired normal tissues for CMM, five paired normal tissues for OSA and one paired normal tissue for CMT), retro-transcribed and then analyzed by duplex RT-qPCR using two different TaqMan assays for the target gene CSPG4 and the internal reference gene (RG) Ribosomal Protein S19 (RPS19). RPS19 was selected from a panel of 9 candidate RGs, according to NormFinder analysis following the protocol already described [2]. Relative expression was analyzed by CFX Maestro™ Software. Student t-test and ANOVA were performed (significance set at P<0.05). Results showed that gene expression of CSPG4 in OSA tissues is significantly increased by 3-4 folds when compared to controls. In CMT, gene expression of the target was increased from 1.5 to 19.9 folds. In melanoma, although an increasing trend was observed, no significant differences between the two groups were highlighted. Immunohistochemistry analysis of the two cancer types showed that the expression of CSPG4 within CMM is concentrated in isles of cells compared to OSA, where the distribution of positive cells is homogeneous. This evidence could explain the differences in gene expression results.CSPG4 immunohistochemistry evaluation in mammary carcinoma is in progress. The evidence of CSPG4 expression in a different type of canine tumors opens the way to the possibility of extending the CSPG4 immunotherapy marker in CMM, OSA, and CMT and may have an impact to translate this strategy modality to human oncology. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=canine%20melanoma" title="canine melanoma">canine melanoma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=canine%20mammary%20carcinomas" title=" canine mammary carcinomas"> canine mammary carcinomas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=canine%20osteosarcoma" title=" canine osteosarcoma"> canine osteosarcoma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CSPG4" title=" CSPG4"> CSPG4</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gene%20expression" title=" gene expression"> gene expression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immunotherapy" title=" immunotherapy"> immunotherapy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141925/cspg4-molecular-target-in-canine-melanoma-osteosarcoma-and-mammary-tumors-for-novel-therapeutic-strategies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141925.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">174</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> Analysis of Differentially Expressed Genes in Spontaneously Occurring Canine Melanoma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Simona%20Perga">Simona Perga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chiara%20Beltramo"> Chiara Beltramo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Floriana%20Fruscione"> Floriana Fruscione</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isabella%20Martini"> Isabella Martini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Federica%20Cavallo"> Federica Cavallo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Federica%20Riccardo"> Federica Riccardo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paolo%20Buracco"> Paolo Buracco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Selina%20Iussich"> Selina Iussich</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elisabetta%20Razzuoli"> Elisabetta Razzuoli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katia%20Varello"> Katia Varello</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lorella%20Maniscalco"> Lorella Maniscalco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elena%20Bozzetta"> Elena Bozzetta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Angelo%20Ferrari"> Angelo Ferrari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paola%20Modesto"> Paola Modesto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Human and canine melanoma have common clinical, histologic characteristics making dogs a good model for comparative oncology. The identification of specific genes and a better understanding of the genetic landscape, signaling pathways, and tumor–microenvironmental interactions involved in the cancer onset and progression is essential for the development of therapeutic strategies against this tumor in both species. In the present study, the differential expression of genes in spontaneously occurring canine melanoma and in paired normal tissue was investigated by targeted RNAseq. Material and Methods: Total RNA was extracted from 17 canine malignant melanoma (CMM) samples and from five paired normal tissues stored in RNA-later. In order to capture the greater genetic variability, gene expression analysis was carried out using two panels (Qiagen): Human Immuno-Oncology (HIO) and Mouse-Immuno-Oncology (MIO) and the miSeq platform (Illumina). These kits allow the detection of the expression profile of 990 genes involved in the immune response against tumors in humans and mice. The data were analyzed through the CLCbio Genomics Workbench (Qiagen) software using the Canis lupus familiaris genome as a reference. Data analysis were carried out both comparing the biologic group (tumoral vs. healthy tissues) and comparing neoplastic tissue vs. paired healthy tissue; a Fold Change greater than two and a p-value less than 0.05 were set as the threshold to select interesting genes. Results and Discussion: Using HIO 63, down-regulated genes were detected; 13 of those were also down-regulated comparing neoplastic sample vs. paired healthy tissue. Eighteen genes were up-regulated, 14 of those were also down-regulated comparing neoplastic sample vs. paired healthy tissue. Using the MIO, 35 down regulated-genes were detected; only four of these were down-regulated, also comparing neoplastic sample vs. paired healthy tissue. Twelve genes were up-regulated in both types of analysis. Considering the two kits, the greatest variation in Fold Change was in up-regulated genes. Dogs displayed a greater genetic homology with humans than mice; moreover, the results have shown that the two kits are able to detect different genes. Most of these genes have specific cellular functions or belong to some enzymatic categories; some have already been described to be correlated to human melanoma and confirm the validity of the dog as a model for the study of molecular aspects of human melanoma. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=animal%20model" title="animal model">animal model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=canine%20melanoma" title=" canine melanoma"> canine melanoma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gene%20expression" title=" gene expression"> gene expression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spontaneous%20tumors" title=" spontaneous tumors"> spontaneous tumors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=targeted%20RNAseq" title=" targeted RNAseq"> targeted RNAseq</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141871/analysis-of-differentially-expressed-genes-in-spontaneously-occurring-canine-melanoma" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141871.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">199</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">27</span> Mapping a Data Governance Framework to the Continuum of Care in the Active Assisted Living Context</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gaya%20Bin%20Noon">Gaya Bin Noon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thoko%20Hanjahanja-Phiri"> Thoko Hanjahanja-Phiri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laura%20Xavier%20Fadrique"> Laura Xavier Fadrique</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Plinio%20Pelegrini%20Morita"> Plinio Pelegrini Morita</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H%C3%A9l%C3%A8ne%20Vaillancourt"> Hélène Vaillancourt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jennifer%20Teague"> Jennifer Teague</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Donovska"> Tania Donovska</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Active Assisted Living (AAL) refers to systems designed to improve the quality of life, aid in independence, and create healthier lifestyles for care recipients. As the population ages, there is a pressing need for non-intrusive, continuous, adaptable, and reliable health monitoring tools to support aging in place. AAL has great potential to support these efforts with the wide variety of solutions currently available, but insufficient efforts have been made to address concerns arising from the integration of AAL into care. The purpose of this research was to (1) explore the integration of AAL technologies and data into the clinical pathway, and (2) map data access and governance for AAL technology in order to develop standards for use by policy-makers, technology manufacturers, and developers of smart communities for seniors. This was done through four successive research phases: (1) literature search to explore existing work in this area and identify lessons learned; (2) modeling of the continuum of care; (3) adapting a framework for data governance into the AAL context; and (4) interviews with stakeholders to explore the applicability of previous work. Opportunities for standards found in these research phases included a need for greater consistency in language and technology requirements, better role definition regarding who can access and who is responsible for taking action based on the gathered data, and understanding of the privacy-utility tradeoff inherent in using AAL technologies in care settings. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20assisted%20living" title="active assisted living">active assisted living</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aging%20in%20place" title=" aging in place"> aging in place</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet%20of%20things" title=" internet of things"> internet of things</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=standards" title=" standards"> standards</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150681/mapping-a-data-governance-framework-to-the-continuum-of-care-in-the-active-assisted-living-context" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150681.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">131</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> Creating Systems Change: Implementing Cross-Sector Initiatives within the Justice System to Support Ontarians with Mental Health and Addictions Needs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Breton">Tania Breton</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dorina%20Simeonov"> Dorina Simeonov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shauna%20MacEachern"> Shauna MacEachern</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ontario’s 10 Year Mental Health and Addictions Strategy has included the establishment of 18 Service Collaborative across the province; cross-sector tables in a specific region coming together to explore mental health and addiction system needs and adopting an intervention to address that need. The process is community led and supported by implementation teams from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), using the framework of implementation science (IS) to enable evidence-based and sustained change. These justice initiatives are focused on the intersection of the justice system and the mental health and addiction systems. In this presentation, we will share the learnings, achievements and challenges of implementing innovative practices to the mental health and addictions needs of Ontarians within the justice system. Specifically, we will focus on the key points across the justice system - from early intervention and trauma-informed, culturally appropriate services to post-sentence support and community reintegration. Our approach to this work involves external implementation support from the CAMH team including coaching, knowledge exchange, evaluation, Aboriginal engagement and health equity expertise. Agencies supported the implementation of tools and processes which changed practice at the local level. These practices are being scaled up across Ontario and community agencies have come together in an unprecedented collaboration and there is a shared vision of the issues overlapping between the mental health, addictions and justice systems. Working with ministry partners has allowed space for innovation and created an environment where better approaches can be nurtured and spread. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=implementation" title="implementation">implementation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=innovation" title=" innovation"> innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=early%20identification" title=" early identification"> early identification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mental%20health%20and%20addictions" title=" mental health and addictions"> mental health and addictions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=prevention" title=" prevention"> prevention</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=systems" title=" systems"> systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49141/creating-systems-change-implementing-cross-sector-initiatives-within-the-justice-system-to-support-ontarians-with-mental-health-and-addictions-needs" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49141.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">362</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25</span> An Evaluation of a Sustainable Business Plan in Mexico City: Urban Gardens</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Vazquez">Tania Vazquez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aida%20Huerta"> Aida Huerta</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Way to get our food has changed over the time, and it is a daily necessity. Nowadays we found a lot of problems involved with the economy, environment, and society, which affect the agrifood system. Some problems as construction of big cities and growing population have been increasing demand food directly. Due to the countryside are far away from the city, another alternative systems have come from, such as Urban Agriculture (UA). UA system offers food production into the cities, products with characteristics as quality, healthy and good prices, close to the customers, recycling culture and the promote environmental education. Last years in Mexico City urban gardens have taken strongly in various politic delegations. There are establishment’s public and private initiatives. Moreover, these places have had different issues like low income, many activities, few workers, low production, lack of training and advice, devaluation of your work and low sales, all these shortcomings generate the devaluation of their work. The aim of this paper is to evaluate a business plan in Mexico City´s urban gardens that contribute to ensuring economic, environmental and social sustainability; to adjust business plan for this places so that they reach viability over time. As a part of soft systems methodology developed of Peter Checkland, we interviewed owners of urban gardens and we found that recurring problem was lack planning manager activities and a master plan about their business. We evaluate the business plan based on “Ten principles in sustainable food value chain development” proposed for Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). With this study was possible measure, understand and improve performance of business plan in the three pillars of the sustainability in addition to this it allowed us to fit in with the needs of urban gardens. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20plan" title="business plan">business plan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mexico%20City" title=" Mexico City"> Mexico City</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20agriculture" title=" urban agriculture"> urban agriculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20gardens" title=" urban gardens"> urban gardens</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61585/an-evaluation-of-a-sustainable-business-plan-in-mexico-city-urban-gardens" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61585.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">395</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">24</span> Comfort Needs and Energy Practices in Low-Income, Tropical Housing from a Socio-Technical Perspective</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Sharmin">Tania Sharmin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Energy use, overheating and thermal discomfort in low-income tropical housing remains an under-researched area. This research attempts to explore these aspects in the Loving Community, a housing colony created for former leprosy patients and their families in Ahmedabad in India. The living conditions in these households and working practices of the inhabitants in terms of how the building and its internal and external spaces are used, will be explored through interviews and monitoring which will be based on a household survey and a focus group discussion (FGD). The findings from the study will provide a unique and in-depth account of how the relocation of the affected households to the new, flood-resistant and architecturally-designed buildings may have affected the dwellers’ household routines (health and well-being, comfort, satisfaction and working practices) and overall living conditions compared to those living in poorly-designed, existing low-income housings. The new houses were built under an innovative building project supported by De Montfort University Leicester (DMU)’s Square Mile India project. A comparison of newly-built and existing building typologies will reveal how building design can affect people’s use of space and energy use. The findings will be helpful to design healthier, energy efficient and socially acceptable low-income housing in future, thus addressing United Nation’s sustainable development goals on three aspects: 3 (health and well-being), 7 (energy) and 11 (safe, resilient and sustainable human settlements). This will further facilitate knowledge exchange between policy makers, developers, designers and occupants focused on strategies to increase stakeholders’ participation in the design process. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20comfort" title="thermal comfort">thermal comfort</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20use" title=" energy use"> energy use</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low-income%20housing" title=" low-income housing"> low-income housing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tropical%20climate" title=" tropical climate"> tropical climate</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105862/comfort-needs-and-energy-practices-in-low-income-tropical-housing-from-a-socio-technical-perspective" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105862.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">123</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Using the Yield-SAFE Model to Assess the Impacts of Climate Change on Yield of Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) An urgent development and application of strategies against the negative impacts of climate change on coffee production is important. Agroforestry-based system is one of the strategies that may ensure sustainable coffee production amidst the likelihood of future impacts of climate change. This system involves the combination of trees in buffer extremes, thereby modifying microclimate conditions. This paper assessed coffee production under 1) coffee monoculture and 2) coffee grown using an agroforestry system, under a) current climate and b) two different future climate change scenarios. The study focused on two representative coffee-growing regions of Ethiopia under different soil, climate, and elevation conditions. A process-based growth model (Yield-SAFE) was used to simulate coffee production for a time horizon of 40 years. Climate change scenarios considered were representative concentration pathways (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5. The results revealed that in monoculture systems, the current coffee yields are between 1200-1250 kg ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹, with an expected decrease between 4-38% and 20-60% in scenarios RCP 4.5 and 8.5, respectively. However, in agroforestry systems, the current yields are between 1600-2200 kg ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹; the decrease was lower, ranging between 4-13% and 16-25% in RCP 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios, respectively. From the results, it can be concluded that coffee production under agroforestry systems has a higher level of resilience when facing future climate change and reinforces the idea of using this type of management in the near future for adapting climate change's negative impacts on coffee production. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Albizia%20gummifera" title="Albizia gummifera">Albizia gummifera</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CORDEX" title=" CORDEX"> CORDEX</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ethiopia" title=" Ethiopia"> Ethiopia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HADCM3%20model" title=" HADCM3 model"> HADCM3 model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=process-based%20model" title=" process-based model"> process-based model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174104/using-the-yield-safe-model-to-assess-the-impacts-of-climate-change-on-yield-of-coffee-coffea-arabica-l-under-agroforestry-and-monoculture-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174104.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">118</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">22</span> Using Baculovirus Expression Vector System to Express Envelop Proteins of Chikungunya Virus in Insect Cells and Mammalian Cells</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Tzong">Tania Tzong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chao-Yi%20Teng"> Chao-Yi Teng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tzong-Yuan%20Wu"> Tzong-Yuan Wu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Currently, Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) transmitted to humans by Aedes mosquitoes has distributed from Africa to Southeast Asia, South America, and South Europe. However, little is known about the antigenic targets for immunity, and there are no licensed vaccines or specific antiviral treatments for the disease caused by CHIKV. Baculovirus has been recognized as a novel vaccine vector with attractive characteristic features of an optional vaccine delivery vehicle. This approach provides the safety and efficacy of CHIKV vaccine. In this study, bi-cistronic recombinant baculoviruses vAc-CMV-CHIKV26S-Rhir-EGFP and vAc-CMV-pH-CHIKV26S-Lir-EGFP were produced. Both recombinant baculovirus can express EGFP reporter gene in insect cells to facilitate the recombinant virus isolation and purification. Examination of vAc-CMV-CHIKV26S-Rhir-EGFP and vAc-CMV-pH-CHIKV26S-Lir-EGFP showed that this recombinant baculovirus could induce syncytium formation in insect cells. Unexpectedly, the immunofluorescence assay revealed the expression of E1 and E2 of CHIKV structural proteins in insect cells infected by vAc-CMV-CHIKV26S-Rhir-EGFP. This result may imply that the CMV promoter can induce the transcription of CHIKV26S in insect cells. There are also E1 and E2 expression in mammalian cells transduced by vAc-CMV-CHIKV26S-Rhir-EGFP and vAc-CMV-pH-CHIKV26S-Lir-EGFP. The expression of E1 and E2 proteins of insect and mammalian cells was validated again by Western blot analysis. The vector construction with dual tandem promoters, which is polyhedrin and CMV promoter, has higher expression of the E1 and E2 of CHIKV structural proteins than the vector construction with CMV promoter only. Most of the E1 and E2 proteins expressed in mammalian cells were glycosylated. In the future, the expression of structural proteins of CHIKV in mammalian cells is expected can form virus-like particle, so it could be used as a vaccine for chikungunya virus. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chikungunya%20virus" title="chikungunya virus">chikungunya virus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virus-like%20particle" title=" virus-like particle"> virus-like particle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vaccines" title=" vaccines"> vaccines</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=baculovirus%20expression%20vector%20system" title=" baculovirus expression vector system"> baculovirus expression vector system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16109/using-baculovirus-expression-vector-system-to-express-envelop-proteins-of-chikungunya-virus-in-insect-cells-and-mammalian-cells" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16109.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">423</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">21</span> Role of Pulsed-Dye Laser in the Treatment of Inflammatory Acne Vulgaris</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shirajul%20Islam%20Khan">Shirajul Islam Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ashraful%20Alam%20Bhuiyan"> Muhammad Ashraful Alam Bhuiyan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syeda%20Tania%20Begum"> Syeda Tania Begum</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Acne vulgaris is one of the most common dermatologic conditions and affects the vast majority of people at some point during their lifetime, so effective treatment is of major importance. The failure of usual treatment modalities, teratogenic effects with some severe side effects, and resistance to P.Acne by Retinoides have been focusing on new therapeutic options for the treatment of acne. More recently, pulsed dye laser therapy has been reported to reduce acne lesion counts. The negligible morbidity of these treatment modalities and some other benefits of subsequent acne scar management lead this therapy more attractive. Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of pulsed dye laser therapy in the treatment of inflammatory acne vulgaris. Materials and Methods: A prospective clinical trial was done in the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka, to find out the role of pulse dye laser in the treatment of inflammatory acne vulgaris. The study was carried out with 60 patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris, and those were treated with pulsed dye laser therapy at baseline and after 4, 8, and 12 weeks. Results: Among 60 patients with inflammatory acne, 42(70%) were in the age group of less than 20 years, and 36(60%) were female. Regarding the number of inflammatory lesions, the baseline mean number (± SD) was 12.77 ± 4.01; after 4 weeks of treatment of inflammatory acne by pulsed dye laser was 7.80 ± 4.11; after 8 weeks of treatment, 6.10 ± 4.03 and after 12 weeks of treatment was 4.17 ± 4.02. After 4 weeks of treatment by pulse dye laser, the level of improvement was excellent at 3.3%, good at 10%, fair at 60%, and poor at 26.7%; after 8 weeks of treatment, excellent was 13.3%, good was 46.7%, the fair was 30% and poor 10% and after 12 weeks of treatment, excellent was 56.7%, good 13.3%, fair 23.3% and poor 6.7%. Regarding safety level, out of 60 patients of inflammatory acne vulgaris treated by pulsed dye laser, about 52(86.7%) patients did not observe any side effects. Conclusions: On the basis of the study results, it can be concluded that pulsed-dye laser is highly effective and well tolerated by patients in the treatment of inflammatory acne. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pulsed-dye%20laser" title="pulsed-dye laser">pulsed-dye laser</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inflammatory%20acne" title=" inflammatory acne"> inflammatory acne</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acne%20vulgaris" title=" acne vulgaris"> acne vulgaris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=retinoids" title=" retinoids"> retinoids</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169132/role-of-pulsed-dye-laser-in-the-treatment-of-inflammatory-acne-vulgaris" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169132.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">92</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">20</span> Needle Track Technique In Strabismus Surgery</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seema%20Dutt%20Bandhu">Seema Dutt Bandhu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yashi%20Bansal"> Yashi Bansal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Moudgil"> Tania Moudgil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Barinder%20Kaur"> Barinder Kaur</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Scleral perforation during the passage of suture needle is a known complication of strabismus surgery. The present study was conducted to evolve a safe and easy technique of passing the suture needle through the sclera. A scleral tunnel was created with a 26-guage needle through which the suture needle was passed. The rest of the steps of strabismus surgery were carried out as usual. Material and Methods: After taking clearance from the Institutional Ethics Committee, an interventional study was carried out on twenty patients. The scleral tunnel technique was performed on the patients of strabismus after taking written informed consent. Before passing the suture needle through the sclera during strabismus surgery, a tunnel through approximately half the thickness of the sclera was created with the help of a bent 26-gauge needle. The suture needle was then passed through this tunnel. Rest of the steps of the surgery were carried out in the conventional manner. In a control group of same number of patients, the surgery was performed in the conventional method. Both the groups were followed up for any complications. Ease of passing suture and surgeons’ satisfaction with the technique was noted on a 10-point Likert scale. Results: None of the patients in either group suffered from any complications. Four surgeons participated in the study. The average Likert scale score of the surgeons for satisfaction with the technique was 4.5 on a scale of 5. The score for ease of passage of suture needle was 5 on a score of 5. Discussion: Scleral perforation during passing the sutures through the sclera is a known complication of strabismus surgery. Incidence reported is 7.8% It occurs due to inappropriate engagement of the scleral tissue or passage of the suture needle along a wrong axis during the process of passing the suture needle. The needle track technique eases the passage of passing the suture needle through the sclera as the engagement of the scleral tissue can be done with greater control with a 26-guage needle. The surgeons have reported that they are highly satisfied with the technique and they have reported that the technique eased the passage of the suture needle through the sclera. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=suture" title="suture">suture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scleral%20tunnel" title=" scleral tunnel"> scleral tunnel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strabismus" title=" strabismus"> strabismus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scleral%20perforation" title=" scleral perforation"> scleral perforation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164236/needle-track-technique-in-strabismus-surgery" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164236.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">79</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19</span> Effect of Anion and Amino Functional Group on Resin for Lipase Immobilization with Adsorption-Cross Linking Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heri%20Hermansyah">Heri Hermansyah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Annisa%20Kurnia"> Annisa Kurnia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Vania%20Anisya"> A. Nowadays, biocatalysts are preferred in industries because they work in mild condition, high specificity, and reduce energy consumption (high pressure and temperature). But, the usage of lipase for industry scale is limited by economic reason due to the high price of lipase and difficulty of the separation system. Immobilization of lipase is one of the solutions to maintain the activity of lipase and reduce separation system in the process. Therefore, we conduct a study about lipase immobilization with the adsorption-cross linking method using glutaraldehyde because this method produces high enzyme loading and stability. Lipase is immobilized on different kind of resin with the various functional group. Highest enzyme loading (76.69%) was achieved by lipase immobilized on anion macroporous which have anion functional group (OH<sup>‑</sup>). However, highest activity (24,69 U/g support) through olive oil emulsion method was achieved by lipase immobilized on anion macroporous-chitosan which have amino (NH<sub>2</sub>) and anion (OH<sup>-</sup>) functional group. In addition, it also success to produce biodiesel until reach yield 50,6% through interesterification reaction and after 4 cycles stable 63.9% relative with initial yield. While for Aspergillus, niger lipase immobilized on anion macroporous-kitosan have unit activity 22,84 U/g resin and yield biodiesel higher than commercial lipase (69,1%) and after 4 cycles stable reach 70.6% relative from initial yield. This shows that optimum functional group on support for immobilization with adsorption-cross linking is the support that contains amino (NH<sub>2</sub>) and anion (OH<sup>-</sup>) functional group because they can react with glutaraldehyde and binding with enzyme prevent desorption of lipase from support through binding lipase with a functional group on support. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adsorption-cross%20linking" title="adsorption-cross linking">adsorption-cross linking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immobilization" title=" immobilization"> immobilization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lipase" title=" lipase"> lipase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resin" title=" resin"> resin</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33854/effect-of-anion-and-amino-functional-group-on-resin-for-lipase-immobilization-with-adsorption-cross-linking-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33854.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">369</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> GATA3-AS1 lncRNA as a Predictive Biomarker for Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Response in Locally Advanced Luminal B Breast Cancer: An RNA ISH Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tania%20Vasquez%20Mata">Tania Vasquez Mata</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luis%20A.%20Herrera"> Luis A. A predictive biomarker is needed to identify patients who will not respond to treatment, allowing for alternative therapies. This study aims to validate the use of the lncRNA GATA3-AS1, as a predictive biomarker using RNA in situ hybridization. Research aim: The aim of this study is to determine if GATA3-AS1 can serve as a biomarker for resistance to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced luminal B breast cancer. Methodology: The study utilizes RNA in situ hybridization with predesigned probes for GATA3-AS1 on Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded tissue sections. The samples underwent pretreatment and protease treatment to enable probe penetration. Chromogenic detection and signal evaluation were performed using specific criteria. Findings: Patients who did not respond to neoadjuvant chemotherapy showed a 3+ score for GATA3-AS1, while those who had a complete response had a 1+ score. Theoretical importance: This study demonstrates the potential clinical utility of GATA3-AS1 as a biomarker for resistance to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Identifying non-responders early on can help avoid unnecessary treatment and explore alternative therapy options. Data collection and analysis procedures: Tissue samples from patients with locally advanced luminal B breast cancer were collected and processed using RNA in situ hybridization. Signal evaluation was conducted under a microscope, and scoring was based on specific criteria. Questions addressed: Can GATA3-AS1 serve as a predictive biomarker for neoadjuvant chemotherapy response in locally advanced luminal B breast cancer? Conclusion: The lncRNA GATA3-AS1 can be used as a biomarker for resistance to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced luminal B breast cancer. Its identification through RNA in situ hybridization of tissue obtained from the initial biopsy can aid in treatment decision-making. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomarkers" title="biomarkers">biomarkers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=breast%20neoplasms" title=" breast neoplasms"> breast neoplasms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetics" title=" genetics"> genetics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neoadjuvant%20therapy" title=" neoadjuvant therapy"> neoadjuvant therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tumor" title=" tumor"> tumor</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179253/gata3-as1-lncrna-as-a-predictive-biomarker-for-neoadjuvant-chemotherapy-response-in-locally-advanced-luminal-b-breast-cancer-an-rna-ish-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179253.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">57</span> </span> </div> </div> <ul class="pagination"> <li class="page-item disabled"><span class="page-link">&lsaquo;</span></li> <li class="page-item active"><span class="page-link">1</span></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T%C3%A2nia%20Modesto%20Veludo-de-Oliveira&amp;page=2">2</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T%C3%A2nia%20Modesto%20Veludo-de-Oliveira&amp;page=2" rel="next">&rsaquo;</a></li> </ul> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
