Give<MG591> an accounting<MG3056> of your management<MG3622>, for you can<MG1410> no<MG3756> longer<MG2089> be manager<MG3621>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And the manager<MG3623> said<MG3004> to himself<MG1438>, &#8216;What<MG5101> am I to do<MG4160>, since<MG3754> my <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>master<MG2962> is taking<MG851> the management<MG3622> away<MG851> from me? I am<MG2480> not strong<MG2480> enough<MG2480> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>dig<MG4626>; I am ashamed<MG153> to beg<MG1871>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>I know<MG1097> what<MG5101> I will do<MG4160>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> when<MG3752> I am removed<MG3179> from the management<MG3622> <i>people</i> will welcome<MG1209> me into their homes<MG3624>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And he summoned<MG4341> each<MG1538> one<MG1520> of his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>master&#8217;s<MG2962> debtors<MG5533>, and he <i>began</i> saying<MG3004> to the first<MG4413>, &#8216;How<MG4214> much<MG4214> do you owe<MG3784> my master<MG2962>?&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And he said<MG3004>, &#8216;A hundred<MG1540> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>jugs<MG943> of oil<MG1637>.&#8217; And he said<MG3004> to him, &#8216;Take<MG1209> your bill<MG1121>, and sit<MG2523> down<MG2523> quickly<MG5030> and write<MG1125> fifty<MG4004>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then<MG1899> he said<MG3004> to another<MG2087>, &#8216;And how<MG4214> much<MG4214> do you owe<MG3784>?&#8217; And he said<MG3004>, &#8216;A hundred<MG1540> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>kors<MG2884> of wheat<MG4621>.&#8217; He *said<MG3004> to him, &#8216;Take<MG1209> your bill<MG1121>, and write<MG1125> eighty<MG3589>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>master<MG2962> complimented<MG1867> the unrighteous<MG93> manager<MG3623> because<MG3754> he had acted<MG4160> shrewdly<MG5430>; for the sons<MG5207> of this<MG3778> age<MG165> are more<MG5429> shrewd<MG5429> in<MG1519> relation<MG1519> to<MG1519> their own<MG1438> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>kind<MG1074> than<MG5228> the sons<MG5207> of light<MG5457>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And I say<MG3004> to you, make<MG4160> friends<MG5384> for yourselves<MG1438> by means<MG1537> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>wealth<MG3126> of unrighteousness<MG93>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> when<MG3752> it <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>is<MG1587> all<MG1587> gone<MG1587>, they will receive<MG1209> you into the eternal<MG166> dwellings<MG4633>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>&#8220;The one who is faithful<MG4103> in a very<MG1646> little<MG1646> thing<MG1646> is also<MG2532> faithful<MG4103> in much<MG4183>; and the one who is unrighteous<MG94> in a very<MG1646> little<MG1646> thing<MG1646> is also<MG2532> unrighteous<MG94> in much<MG4183>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> if<MG1487> you have not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>been<MG1096> faithful<MG4103> in the <i>use of</i> unrighteous<MG94> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>wealth<MG3126>, who<MG5101> will entrust<MG4100> the true<MG228> <i>wealth</i> to you? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And if<MG1487> you have not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>been<MG1096> faithful<MG4103> in <i>the use of</i> that which is another&#8217;s<MG245>, who<MG5101> will give<MG1325> you that which is your own? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>No<MG3762> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>servant<MG3610b> can<MG1410> serve<MG1398> two<MG1417> masters<MG2962>; for either<MG2228> he will hate<MG3404> the one<MG1520> and love<MG25> the other<MG2087>, or<MG2228> he will be devoted<MG472> to one<MG1520> and despise<MG2706> the other<MG2087>. You cannot<MG1410, 3756> serve<MG1398> God<MG2316> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>wealth<MG3126>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> the Pharisees<MG5330>, who were lovers<MG5366> of<MG5366> money<MG5366>, were listening<MG191> to all<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> and were <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>ridiculing<MG1592> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;You are the ones who justify<MG1344> yourselves<MG1438> in<MG1799> the<MG1799> sight<MG1799> of<MG1799> people<MG444>, but God<MG2316> knows<MG1097> your hearts<MG2588>; because<MG3754> that which is highly<MG5308> esteemed<MG5308> among<MG1722> people<MG444> is detestable<MG946> in<MG1799> the<MG1799> sight<MG1799> of<MG1799> God<MG2316>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>&#8220;The Law<MG3551> and the Prophets<MG4396> <i>were proclaimed</i> until<MG3360> John<MG2491> <i>came;</i> since<MG575> that<MG5119> time<MG5119> the gospel<MG2097> of the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>has been preached<MG2097>, and everyone<MG3956> is forcing<MG971> his way<MG971> into it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>But it is easier<MG2123> for heaven<MG3772> and earth<MG1093> to pass<MG3928> away<MG3928> than<MG2228> for one<MG1520> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>stroke<MG2762> of<MG2762> a<MG2762> letter<MG2762> of the Law<MG3551> to fail<MG4098>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>&#8220;Everyone<MG3956> who <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>divorces<MG630> his wife<MG1135> and marries<MG1060> another<MG2087> commits<MG3431> adultery<MG3431>, and he who marries<MG1060> one who is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>divorced<MG630> from a husband<MG435> commits<MG3431> adultery<MG3431>. <p class="hdg">The Rich Man and Lazarus</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>&#8220;Now<MG1161> there was a rich<MG4145> man<MG444>, and he habitually dressed<MG1737> in purple<MG4209> and fine<MG1040> linen<MG1040>, enjoying<MG2165> himself in splendor<MG2988> every<MG2596> day<MG2250>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And a poor<MG4434> man<MG4434> named<MG3686> Lazarus<MG2976> was laid<MG906> at his gate<MG4440>, covered<MG1669> with<MG1669> sores<MG1669>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>and longing<MG1937> to be fed<MG5526> from the <i>scraps</i> which fell<MG4098> from the rich<MG4145> man&#8217;s<MG4145> table<MG5132>; not<MG235> only<MG235> <i>that,</i> the dogs<MG2965> also<MG2532> were coming<MG2064> and licking<MG1952b> his sores<MG1668>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> it happened<MG1096> that the poor<MG4434> man<MG4434> died<MG599> and was carried<MG667> away<MG667> by the angels<MG32a> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>Abraham&#8217;s<MG11> arms<MG2859>; and the rich<MG4145> man<MG4145> also<MG2532> died<MG599> and was buried<MG2290>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And in Hades<MG86> he raised<MG1869> his eyes<MG3788>, being<MG5225> in torment<MG931>, and *saw<MG3708> Abraham<MG11> far<MG3113> away<MG575, 3113> and Lazarus<MG2976> in his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>arms<MG2859>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And he cried<MG5455> out<MG5455> and said<MG3004>, &#8216;Father<MG3962> Abraham<MG11>, have<MG1653> mercy<MG1653> on me and send<MG3992> Lazarus<MG2976>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> he may dip<MG911> the tip<MG206> of his finger<MG1147> in water<MG5204> and cool<MG2711> off<MG2711> my tongue<MG1100>, for I am<MG3600> in<MG3600> agony<MG3600> in this<MG3778> flame<MG5395>.&#8217; but now<MG3568> he is being comforted<MG3870> here<MG5602>, and you are in<MG3600> agony<MG3600>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>besides<MG1722> all<MG3956> this<MG3778>, between<MG3342> us and you a great<MG3173> chasm<MG5490> has been set<MG4741>, so<MG3704> that<MG3704> those<MG3588> who want<MG2309> to go<MG1224> over<MG1224> from<MG1759b> here<MG1759b> to you will not be able<MG1410>, nor<MG3366> will <i>any people</i> cross<MG1276> over<MG1276> from<MG1564> there<MG1564> to us.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/16-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>for I have<MG2192> five<MG4002> brothers<MG80>&#8212;in<MG3704> order<MG3704> that<MG3704> he may warn<MG1263> them, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> they will not come<MG2064> to this<MG3778> place<MG5117> of torment<MG931> as<MG2532> well<MG2532>.&#8217;
