<h2>Feb 23, 2010</h2> <h1>Explosion at gas plant in Labuan</h1> <hr/> <p>LABUAN: Operations at the RM511mil Petronas methanol plant here were forced to a halt when an explosion occurred at the plant’s controlled gas removal chimney known as S1001 Flare Tip.</p> <p>None of the 128 staff and contract workers at the plant were hurt in the 11.37am incident yesterday.</p> <p>Twenty firemen in two fire engines managed to put out the fire within 30 minutes of the explosion and stop it from spreading to other facilities at the plant.</p> <p>The plant’s production operations chief, Mohd Abdul Manap, said a detailed investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the explosion.</p> <p>“We will conduct a comprehensive investigation before operations can continue.</p> <p>“This is the first such incident to happen here.</p> <p>“We will identify whether there had been a safety breach,” Mohd Abdul said.</p> <p>The methanol plant was built in 1984 by the state-owned Sabah Gas
