John Wooden Center Improvement Project.</p></section> <section class="columns columns-2 columns-2-7030"> <section class="column column-1"> <h2>Project Announcement</h2> <p>Coach John Wooden, a figure synonymous with excellence both on and off the court, stipulated a simple condition for lending his name to a UCLA building: it must be open to all students. This principle of inclusivity and community has been the cornerstone of the John Wooden Center since it opened in May of 1983.</p> <p>Today, we honor Coach Wooden's legacy by announcing a significant step forward in improving the experience for all Bruins at the John Wooden Center. Following a thorough evaluation and planning process, the building will undergo renovation <strong>beginning December 2024 / January 2025</strong> to address seismic deficiencies and make improvements to the existing layout and configuration of space. These renovations are projected to be completed early in 2027.</p> <p><strong>Project Highlights:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>The building will not be fully closed</strong> during the project. Instead, the planned improvements will be separated into phases to minimize disruption, with construction contained in select areas.</li> <li>To mitigate the impacts from each phase of the project, programs and services will be relocated within the John Wooden Center as well as to other Recreation facilities to ensure our community continues to have access to a variety of fitness and wellness activities.</li> <li>We are committed to providing regular updates throughout the renovation process. What can I access? </h3> <p>The John Wooden Center will remain open during the duration of the project. The project will include phased closures of certain areas of the facility but still provide alternate spaces to meet your recreational needs. </p> <h3>Is there a Recreation Membership discount during the JWC update project? Can I pause my Recreation membership?</h3> <p>Membership structure will remain the same and our current policies will apply.
