crops are an agri-technological alternative to improve all properties of soils. Cover crops such as oats and rye could be used to reduce erosion and favor system sustainability when they are grown in the same agricultural cycle of the soybean crop. This crop is very profitable but its low contribution of easily decomposable residues, due to its low C/N ratio, leaves the soil exposed to erosive action and raises the need to reduce its monoculture. Furthermore, inoculation with the plant growth promoting rhizobacteria contributes to the implementation, development and production of several cereal crops. However, there is little information on its effects on forage crops which are often used as cover crops to improve soil quality. In order to evaluate the effect of combined inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense and Pseudomonas fluorescens on rhizosphere microbial communities, field experiments were conducted in the west of Buenos Aires province, Argentina, with a split-split plot randomized complete block factorial design with three replicates. The factors were: type of cover crop, inoculation and fertilization. In the main plot two levels of fertilization 0 and 7 40-0-5 (NPKS) were established at sowing. Rye (Secale cereale cultivar Quehué) and oats (Avena sativa var Aurora.) were sown in the subplots. In the sub-subplots two inoculation treatments are applied without and with application of a combined inoculant with A. brasilense and P. fluorescens. Due to the growth of cover crops has to be stopped usually with the herbicide glyphosate, rhizosphere soil of 0-20 and 20-40 cm layers was sampled at three sampling times which were: before glyphosate application (BG), a month after glyphosate application (AG) and at soybean harvest (SH). Community level of physiological profiles (CLPP) and Shannon index of microbial diversity (H) were obtained by multivariate analysis of Principal Components. Also, the most probable number (MPN) of nitrifiers and cellulolytics were determined using selective liquid media for each functional group. The CLPP of rhizosphere microbial communities showed significant differences between sampling times. There was not interaction between sampling times and both, types of cover crops and inoculation. Rhizosphere microbial communities of samples obtained BG had different CLPP with respect to the samples obtained in the sampling times AG and SH. Fertilizer and depth of sampling also caused changes in the CLPP. The H diversity index of rhizosphere microbial communities of rye in the sampling time BG were higher than those associated with oats. The MPN of both microbial functional types was lower in the deeper layer since these microorganisms are mostly aerobic. The MPN of nitrifiers decreased in rhizosphere of both cover crops only AG. At the sampling time BG, the NMP of both microbial types were larger than those obtained for AG and SH. This may mean that the glyphosate application could cause fairly permanent changes in these microbial communities which can be considered bio-indicators of soil quality. Inoculation and fertilizer inputs could be included to improve management of these cover crops because they can have a significant positive effect on the sustainability of the agro-ecosystem. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=community%20level%20of%20physiological%20profiles" title="community level of physiological profiles">community level of physiological profiles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microbial%20diversity" title=" microbial diversity"> microbial diversity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plant%20growth%20promoting%20rhizobacteria" title=" plant growth promoting rhizobacteria"> plant growth promoting rhizobacteria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rhizosphere%20microbial%20communities" title=" rhizosphere microbial communities"> rhizosphere microbial communities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soil%20quality" title=" soil quality"> soil quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=system%20sustainability" title=" system sustainability"> system sustainability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68602/effect-of-fertilization-and-combined-inoculation-with-azospirillum-brasilense-and-pseudomonas-fluorescens-on-rhizosphere-microbial-communities-of-avena-sativa-oats-and-secale-cereale-rye-grown-as-cover-crops" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68602.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">404</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">162</span> Flow Visualization in Biological Complex Geometries for Personalized Medicine</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carlos%20Escobar-del%20Pozo">Carlos Escobar-del Pozo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=C%C3%A9sar%20Ahumada-Monroy"> César Ahumada-Monroy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azael%20Garc%C3%ADa-Rebolledo"> Azael García-Rebolledo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alberto%20Brambila-Sol%C3%B3rzano"> Alberto Brambila-Solórzano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gregorio%20Mart%C3%ADnez-S%C3%A1nchez"> Gregorio Martínez-Sánchez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luis%20Ortiz-Rinc%C3%B3n"> Luis Ortiz-Rincón</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Numerical simulations of flow in complex biological structures have gained considerable attention in the last years. However, the major issue is the validation of the results. The present work shows a Particle Image Velocimetry PIV flow visualization technique in complex biological structures, particularly in intracranial aneurysms. A methodology to reconstruct and generate a transparent model has been developed, as well as visualization and particle tracking techniques. The generated transparent models allow visualizing the flow patterns with a regular camera using the visualization techniques. The final goal is to use visualization as a tool to provide more information on the treatment and surgery decisions in aneurysms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aneurysms" title="aneurysms">aneurysms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PIV" title=" PIV"> PIV</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20visualization" title=" flow visualization"> flow visualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20tracking" title=" particle tracking"> particle tracking</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165909/flow-visualization-in-biological-complex-geometries-for-personalized-medicine" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165909.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">90</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">161</span> Intercultural Competencies as a Means to Rethink the Pedagogies of Diversity in Latin America</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcelo%20Jose%20Cabarcas%20Ortega">Marcelo Jose Cabarcas Ortega</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lissette%20Herrera"> Lissette Herrera</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juan%20Carlos%20Lemus%20Stave"> Juan Carlos Lemus Stave</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This work makes a rather theoretical reflection on a pedagogical response against the coloniality of knowledge and power. The purpose here is to reflect on the challenges and opportunities it opens up in the educational field. No doubt, ours derived in a more abstract than concrete reflection. The quest, nevertheless, to stimulate the interest in a non-violent, non-contemptuous education able to balance, improves and if necessary, transforms the relationships that have made it a space of privilege and exclusion. We all know the school has found itself in need of rethinking diversity while developing awareness of its own role in reproducing inequality. Intercultural education may provide an answer to that hurry when fostering critical awareness and dialogue. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decoloniality" title="decoloniality">decoloniality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coloniality%20of%20power" title=" coloniality of power"> coloniality of power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diversity" title=" diversity"> diversity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interculturality" title=" interculturality"> interculturality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136227/intercultural-competencies-as-a-means-to-rethink-the-pedagogies-of-diversity-in-latin-america" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136227.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">233</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">160</span> Photoreflectance Anisotropy Spectroscopy of Coupled Quantum Wells</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J.%20V.%20Gonzalez%20Fernandez">J. Detection of foundation piles with uncertain integrity prompted the review of possible situations that could jeopardy the structural safety of the pier. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the structural conditions of the support, taking into account the type of anomaly reported and the depth at which it is located, the position of the pile with uncertain integrity in the foundation system, the stratigraphy of the surrounding soil and the geometry and structural characteristics of the pier. To carry out the above, dynamic analysis, spectral modal, and step-by-step, with elastic and inelastic material models, were performed. Results were evaluated in accordance with the standards used for the design of the original structural project and with the Construction Regulations for Mexico’s Federal District (RCDF-2017, 2017). Comments on the response of the analyzed models are issued, and the conclusions are presented from a structural point of view. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20analysis" title="dynamic analysis">dynamic analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inelastic%20models" title=" inelastic models"> inelastic models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dubious%20foundation" title=" dubious foundation"> dubious foundation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bridge%20pier" title=" bridge pier"> bridge pier</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116289/structural-performance-of-a-bridge-pier-on-dubious-deep-foundation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116289.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">137</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">158</span> Tetracycline as Chemosensor for Simultaneous Recognition of Al³⁺: Application to Bio-Imaging for Living Cells</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jesus%20Alfredo%20Ortega%20Granados">Jesus Alfredo Ortega Granados</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pandiyan%20Thangarasu"> Pandiyan Thangarasu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Antibiotic tetracycline presents as a micro-contaminant in fresh water, wastewater and soils, causing environmental and health problems. In this work, tetracycline (TC) has been employed as chemo-sensor for the recognition of Al³⁺ without interring other ions, and the results show that it enhances the fluorescence intensity for Al³⁺ and there is no interference from other coexisting cation ions (Cd²⁺, Ni²⁺, Co²⁺, Sr²⁺, Mg²⁺, Fe³⁺, K⁺, Sm³⁺, Ag⁺, Na⁺, Ba²⁺, Zn²⁺, and Mn²⁺). For the addition of Cu²⁺ to [TET-Al³⁺], it appears that the intensity of fluorescence has been quenched. Other combinations of metal ions in addition to TC do not change the fluorescence behavior. The stoichiometry determined by Job´s plot for the interaction of TC with Al³⁺ was found to be 1:1. Importantly, the detection of Al³⁺⁺ successfully employed in the real samples like living cells, and it was found that TC efficiently performs as a fluorescent probe for Al³⁺ ion in living systems, especially in Saccharomyces cerevisiae; this is confirmed by confocal laser scanning microscopy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemo-sensor" title="chemo-sensor">chemo-sensor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recognition%20of%20Al%C2%B3%E2%81%BA%20ion" title=" recognition of Al³⁺ ion"> recognition of Al³⁺ ion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saccharomyces%20cerevisiae" title=" Saccharomyces cerevisiae"> Saccharomyces cerevisiae</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tetracycline" title=" tetracycline"> tetracycline</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=" title=""></a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94375/tetracycline-as-chemosensor-for-simultaneous-recognition-of-al3-application-to-bio-imaging-for-living-cells" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94375.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">190</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">157</span> Extraction of Cellulose Nanocrystals from Soy Pods</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maycon%20dos%20Santos">Maycon dos Santos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marivane%20Turim%20Koschevic"> Marivane Turim Koschevic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karina%20Sayuri%20Ueda"> Karina Sayuri Ueda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcello%20Lima%20Bertuci"> Marcello Lima Bertuci</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farayde%20Matta%20Fackhouri"> Farayde Matta Fackhouri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Maria%20Martelli"> Silvia Maria Martelli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The use of cellulose nanocrystals as reinforcing agents in polymer nanocomposites is promising. The results were positive and showed that it is possible to extract CNC at low temperatures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soy%20pods" title="soy pods">soy pods</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cellulose%20nanocrystals" title=" cellulose nanocrystals"> cellulose nanocrystals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature" title=" temperature"> temperature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acid%20concentration" title=" acid concentration"> acid concentration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59543/extraction-of-cellulose-nanocrystals-from-soy-pods" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59543.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">297</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">156</span> Organizational Culture of a Public and a Private Hospital in Brazil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fernanda%20Ludmilla%20Rossi%20Rocha">Fernanda Ludmilla Rossi Rocha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thamiris%20Cavazzani%20Vegro"> Thamiris Cavazzani Vegro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Helena%20Henriques%20Camelo"> Silvia Helena Henriques Camelo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carmen%20Silvia%20Gabriel"> Carmen Silvia Gabriel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrea%20Bernardes"> Andrea Bernardes </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Organizations are cultural, symbolic and imaginary systems composed by values and norms. These values and norms represent the organizational culture, which determines the behavior of the workers, guides the work practices and impacts the quality of care and the safety culture of health services worldwide. Objective: To analyze the organizational culture of a public and a private hospital in Brazil. Method: Descriptive study with quantitative approach developed in a public and in a private hospital of Brazil. Sample was composed by 281 nursing workers, of which 73 nurses and 208 nursing auxiliaries and technicians. The data collection instrument comprised the Brazilian Instrument for Assessing Organizational Culture. Data were collected from March to December 2013. Results: At the public hospital, the results showed an average score of 2.85 for the values concerning cooperative professionalism (CP); 3.02 for values related to hierarchical rigidity and the centralization of power (HR); 2.23 for individualistic professionalism and competition at work (IP); 2.22 for values related to satisfaction, well-being and motivation of workers (SW); 3.47 for external integration (EI); 2.03 for rewarding and training practices (RT); 2.75 for practices related to the promotion of interpersonal relationships (IR) About the private hospital, the results showed an average score of 3.24 for the CP; 2.83 for HR; 2.69 for IP; 2.71 for SW; 3.73 for EI; 2.56 for RT; 2.83 for IR at the hospital. Discussion: The analysis of organizational values of the studied hospitals shows that workers find the existence of hierarchical rigidity and the centralization of power in the institutions; believed there was cooperation at workplace, though they perceived individualism and competition; believed that values associated with the workers’ well-being, satisfaction and motivation were seldom acknowledged by the hospital; believed in the adoption of strategic planning actions within the institution, but considered interpersonal relationship promotion, continuous education and the rewarding of workers to be little valued by the institution. Conclusion: This work context can lead to professional dissatisfaction, compromising the quality of care and contributing to the occurrence of occupational diseases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nursing%20management" title="nursing management">nursing management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organizational%20culture" title=" organizational culture"> organizational culture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20of%20care" title=" quality of care"> quality of care</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interpersonal%20relationships" title=" interpersonal relationships"> interpersonal relationships</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20757/organizational-culture-of-a-public-and-a-private-hospital-in-brazil" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20757.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">440</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">155</span> Existing Cardiovascular Risk among Children Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus at the Emergency Clinic</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Masuma%20Novak">Masuma Novak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniel%20Novak"> Daniel Novak</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Sweden along with other Nordic countries has the highest incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) worldwide. The trend is increasing globally. The diagnosis is often given at the emergency clinic when children arrive with cardinal symptom of T1DM. Children with T1DM are known to have an increased risk of microvascular- and macrovascular complications. A family history of cardiovascular complications may further increase their risk. Clinically evident diabetes-related vascular complications are however rarely visible in childhood and adolescence, whereby an intensive diabetes treatment and normoglycemic control is a goal for every child. This study is a risk evaluation of children with T1DM based on their family’s cardiovascular history. Method: Since 2005 the Better Diabetes Diagnosis (BDD) study is a nationwide Swedish prospective cohort study that recruits new-onset T1DM who are less than 18 years old at time of diagnosis. For each newly diagnosed child, blood samples are collected for specific HLA genotyping and islet autoantibody assays and their family’s cardiovascular history is evaluated. As part of the BDD study, during the years 2010-2013 all children diagnosed with T1DM at the Queen Silvia’s Children’s Hospital in Sweden were asked about their family’s cardiovascular history. Questions regarded maternal and paternal high blood pressure, stroke, and myocardial infarction before the age of 55 years, and hyperlipidemia were answered. A maximum risk score of eight was possible. All children are clinically observed prospectively for early functional and structural abnormalities such as protein uremia, blood pressure, and retinopathy. Results: A total of 275 children aged 0 to 18 years were diagnosed with T1DM at the Queen Silvia’s Children’s Hospital emergency clinic during this four year period. The participation rate was 99.7%. 26.4% of the children had no hereditary cardiovascular risk factors. 22.7 % had one risk factor and 18.8% had two risk factors. 14.8% had three risk factors. 9.7% had four risk factors and 7.5% had five risk factors or more. Conclusion: Among children with T1DM in Sweden there is a difference in hereditary cardiovascular risk factors. These results indicate that children with T1DM who also have increased hereditary cardiovascular risk factors should be monitored closely with early screening for functional and structural cardiovascular abnormalities. This is a very preliminary and ongoing study which will be complemented with the cardiovascular risk analysis among children without T1DM. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=children" title="children">children</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=type%20I%20diabetes" title=" type I diabetes"> type I diabetes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emergency%20clinic" title=" emergency clinic"> emergency clinic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CVD%20risk" title=" CVD risk"> CVD risk</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35301/existing-cardiovascular-risk-among-children-diagnosed-with-type-1-diabetes-mellitus-at-the-emergency-clinic" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35301.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">365</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">154</span> VaR or TCE: Explaining the Preferences of Regulators</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Faroni">Silvia Faroni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olivier%20Le%20Courtois"> Olivier Le Courtois</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Krzysztof%20Ostaszewski"> Krzysztof Ostaszewski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> While a lot of research concentrates on the merits of VaR and TCE, which are the two most classic risk indicators used by financial institutions, little has been written on explaining why regulators favor the choice of VaR or TCE in their set of rules. In this paper, we investigate the preferences of regulators with the aim of understanding why, for instance, a VaR with a given confidence level is ultimately retained. Further, this paper provides equivalence rules that explain how a given choice of VaR can be equivalent to a given choice of TCE. Looking to help fill this gap, a study of travelers from North America was conducted. Using cluster analysis, it was determined the existence of three segments: nostalgic, regular and frequent. Our construction permits stochastic correlation not only among stocks but also among volatilities, also known as co-volatility movements, both driven by more convenient 4/2 stochastic structures. The parametrization is flexible enough to separate these types of correlation, permitting their individual study. Conditions for proper changes of measure and closed-form characteristic functions under risk-neutral and historical measures are provided, allowing for applications of the model to risk management and derivative pricing. We apply the model to an expected utility theory problem in incomplete markets. Our analysis leads to closed-form solutions for the optimal allocation and value function. Conditions are provided for well-defined solutions together with a verification theorem. Our numerical analysis highlights and separates the impact of key statistics on equity portfolio decisions, in particular, volatility, correlation, and co-volatility movements, with the latter being the least important in an incomplete market. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastic%20covariance%20process" title="stochastic covariance process">stochastic covariance process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=4%2F2%20stochastic%20volatility%20model" title=" 4/2 stochastic volatility model"> 4/2 stochastic volatility model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastic%20co-volatility%20movements" title=" stochastic co-volatility movements"> stochastic co-volatility movements</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=characteristic%20function" title=" characteristic function"> characteristic function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=expected%20utility%20theory" title=" expected utility theory"> expected utility theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=veri%0Ccation%20theorem" title=" verication theorem"> verication theorem</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153747/a-multivariate-42-stochastic-covariance-model-properties-and-applications-to-portfolio-decisions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153747.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">152</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">150</span> Non-Centrifugal Cane Sugar Production: Heat Transfer Study to Optimize the Use of Energy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fabian%20Velasquez">Fabian Velasquez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Espitia"> John Espitia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Henry%20Hernadez"> Henry Hernadez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sebastian%20Escobar"> Sebastian Escobar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jader%20Rodriguez"> Jader Rodriguez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Non-centrifuged cane sugar (NCS) is a concentrated product obtained through the evaporation of water contain from sugarcane juice inopen heat exchangers (OE). The heat supplied to the evaporation stages is obtained from the cane bagasse through the thermochemical process of combustion, where the thermal energy released is transferred to OE by the flue gas. Therefore, the optimization of energy usage becomes essential for the proper design of the production process. For optimize the energy use, it is necessary modeling and simulation of heat transfer between the combustion gases and the juice and to understand the major mechanisms involved in the heat transfer. The main objective of this work was simulated heat transfer phenomena between the flue gas and open heat exchangers using Computational Fluid Dynamics model (CFD). The simulation results were compared to field measured data. Numerical results about temperature profile along the flue gas pipeline at the measurement points are in good accordance with field measurements. Thus, this study could be of special interest in design NCS production process and the optimization of the use of energy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematical%20modeling" title="mathematical modeling">mathematical modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20variables" title=" design variables"> design variables</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20dynamics" title=" computational fluid dynamics"> computational fluid dynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=overall%20thermal%20efficiency" title=" overall thermal efficiency"> overall thermal efficiency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146794/non-centrifugal-cane-sugar-production-heat-transfer-study-to-optimize-the-use-of-energy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146794.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">125</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">149</span> Electrocardiogram-Based Heartbeat Classification Using Convolutional Neural Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jacqueline%20Rose%20T.%20Alipo-on">Jacqueline Rose T. However, the traditional rule-based analysis of large volumes of ECG data is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to human errors. With the advancement of the programming paradigm, algorithms such as machine learning have been increasingly used to perform an analysis of ECG signals. In this paper, various deep learning algorithms were adapted to classify five classes of heartbeat types. The dataset used in this work is the synthetic MIT-BIH Arrhythmia dataset produced from generative adversarial networks (GANs). Various deep learning models such as ResNet-50 convolutional neural network (CNN), 1-D CNN, and long short-term memory (LSTM) were evaluated and compared. ResNet-50 was found to outperform other models in terms of recall and F1 score using a five-fold average score of 98.88% and 98.87%, respectively. 1-D CNN, on the other hand, was found to have the highest average precision of 98.93%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heartbeat%20classification" title="heartbeat classification">heartbeat classification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convolutional%20neural%20network" title=" convolutional neural network"> convolutional neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrocardiogram%20signals" title=" electrocardiogram signals"> electrocardiogram signals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=generative%20adversarial%20networks" title=" generative adversarial networks"> generative adversarial networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=long%20short-term%20memory" title=" long short-term memory"> long short-term memory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ResNet-50" title=" ResNet-50"> ResNet-50</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162763/electrocardiogram-based-heartbeat-classification-using-convolutional-neural-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162763.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">128</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">148</span> Oral Microbiota as a Novel Predictive Biomarker of Response To Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Francesco%20Pantano">Francesco Pantano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marta%20Fogolari"> Marta Fogolari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michele%20Iuliani"> Michele Iuliani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sonia%20Simonetti"> Sonia Simonetti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Cavaliere"> Silvia Cavaliere</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marco%20Russano"> Marco Russano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fabrizio%20Citarella"> Fabrizio Citarella</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Vincenzi"> Bruno Vincenzi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Angeletti"> Silvia Angeletti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Giuseppe%20Tonini"> Giuseppe Tonini</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Although immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have changed the treatment paradigm of non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), these drugs fail to elicit durable responses in the majority of NSCLC patients. The gut microbiota, able to regulate immune responsiveness, is emerging as a promising, modifiable target to improve ICIs response rates. Since the oral microbiome has been demonstrated to be the primary source of bacterial microbiota in the lungs, we investigated its composition as a potential predictive biomarker to identify and select patients who could benefit from immunotherapy. Methods: Thirty-five patients with stage IV squamous and non-squamous cell NSCLC eligible for an anti-PD-1/PD-L1 as monotherapy were enrolled. Saliva samples were collected from patients prior to the start of treatment, bacterial DNA was extracted using the QIAamp® DNA Microbiome Kit (QIAGEN) and the 16S rRNA gene was sequenced on a MiSeq sequencing instrument (Illumina). Results: NSCLC patients were dichotomized as “Responders” (partial or complete response) and “Non-Responders” (progressive disease), after 12 weeks of treatment, based on RECIST criteria. A prevalence of the phylum Candidatus Saccharibacteria was found in the 10 responders compared to non-responders (abundance 5% vs 1% respectively; p-value = 1.46 x 10-7; False Discovery Rate (FDR) = 1.02 x 10-6). Moreover, a higher prevalence of Saccharibacteria Genera Incertae Sedis genus (belonging to the Candidatus Saccharibacteria phylum) was observed in "responders" (p-value = 6.01 x 10-7 and FDR = 2.46 x 10-5). Finally, the patients who benefit from immunotherapy showed a significant abundance of TM7 Phylum Sp Oral Clone FR058 strain, member of Saccharibacteria Genera Incertae Sedis genus (p-value = 6.13 x 10-7 and FDR=7.66 x 10-5). Conclusions: These preliminary results showed a significant association between oral microbiota and ICIs response in NSCLC patients. In particular, the higher prevalence of Candidatus Saccharibacteria phylum and TM7 Phylum Sp Oral Clone FR058 strain in responders suggests their potential immunomodulatory role. The study is still ongoing and updated data will be presented at the congress. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oral%20microbiota" title="oral microbiota">oral microbiota</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immune%20checkpoint%20inhibitors" title=" immune checkpoint inhibitors"> immune checkpoint inhibitors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-small%20cell%20lung%20cancer" title=" non-small cell lung cancer"> non-small cell lung cancer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=predictive%20biomarker" title=" predictive biomarker"> predictive biomarker</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163788/oral-microbiota-as-a-novel-predictive-biomarker-of-response-to-immune-checkpoint-inhibitors-in-advanced-non-small-cell-lung-cancer-patients" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163788.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">99</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">147</span> Porous Ni Electrodes Modified with Au Nanoparticles for Hydrogen Production</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=V.%20P%C3%A9rez-Herranz">V. The supporting macroporous Ni electrodes have been obtained by means of the electrodeposition at high current densities. Then, the Au nanoparticles were synthesized and added to the electrode surface. The electrocatalytic behaviour of the developed electrocatalysts was studied by means of pseudo-steady-state polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and hydrogen discharge curves. The size of the Au synthetized nanoparticles shows a monomodal distribution, with a very sharp band between 10 and 50 nm. The characteristic parameters d10, d50 and d90 were 14, 20 and 31 nm respectively. From Tafel polarization data has been concluded that the Au nanoparticles improve the catalytic activity of the developed electrodes towards the HER respect to the macroporous Ni electrodes. EIS permits to obtain the electrochemically active area by means of the roughness factor value. All the developed electrodes show roughness factor values in the same order of magnitude. From the activation energy results it can be concluded that the Au nanoparticles improve the intrinsic catalytic activity of the macroporous Ni electrodes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Au%20nano%20particles" title="Au nano particles">Au nano particles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrogen%20evolution%20reaction" title=" hydrogen evolution reaction"> hydrogen evolution reaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=porous%20Ni%20electrodes" title=" porous Ni electrodes"> porous Ni electrodes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrochemical%20impedance%20spectroscopy" title=" electrochemical impedance spectroscopy "> electrochemical impedance spectroscopy </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27355/porous-ni-electrodes-modified-with-au-nanoparticles-for-hydrogen-production" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27355.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">622</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">146</span> School Autonomy in the United Kingdom: A Correlational Study Applied to English Principals</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pablo%20Javier%20Ortega-Rodriguez">Pablo Javier Ortega-Rodriguez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Francisco%20Jose%20Pozuelos-Estrada"> Francisco Jose Pozuelos-Estrada</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Recently, there has been a renewed interest in school autonomy in the United Kingdom and its impact on students' outcomes. English principals have a pivotal role in decision-making. The aim of this paper is to explore the correlation between the type of school (public or private) and the considerable responsibilities of English principals which participated in PISA 2015. The final sample consisted of 419 principals. Descriptive data (percentages and means) were generated for the variables related to professional autonomy. Pearson's chi-square test was used to determine if there is an association between the type of school and principals' responsibilities for relevant tasks. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software, version 22. Findings suggest a significant correlation between the type of school and principals' responsibility for firing teachers and formulating the school budget. This study confirms that the type of school is not associated with principals' responsibility for choosing which textbooks are used at school. The present study establishes a quantitative framework for defining four models of professional autonomy and some proposals to improve school autonomy in the United Kingdom. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decision%20making" title="decision making">decision making</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=principals" title=" principals"> principals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=professional%20autonomy" title=" professional autonomy"> professional autonomy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=school%20autonomy" title=" school autonomy"> school autonomy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/99907/school-autonomy-in-the-united-kingdom-a-correlational-study-applied-to-english-principals" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/99907.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">798</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">145</span> Pretreatment of Cattail (Typha domingensis) Fibers to Obtain Cellulose Nanocrystals </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marivane%20Turim%20Koschevic">Marivane Turim Koschevic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maycon%20dos%20Santos"> Maycon dos Santos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcello%20Lima%20Bertuci"> Marcello Lima Bertuci</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farayde%20Matta%20Fakhouri"> Farayde Matta Fakhouri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Maria%20Martelli"> Silvia Maria Martelli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Natural fibers are rich raw materials in cellulose and abundant in the world, its use for the cellulose nanocrystals extraction is promising as an example cited is the cattail, macrophyte native weed in South America. This technique enables the identification of the ionic-transport characteristics and to distinguish between different transport mechanisms occurring at different current density ranges. The impedance spectra are dependent on the applied dc current density, on the type of cation and on the concentration. When the applied dc current density increases, the diameter of the impedance spectra loops increases because all the components of membrane system resistance increase. The diameter of the impedance plots decreases in the order of Na(I), Ni(II) and Cr(III) due to the increased interactions between the negatively charged sulfonic groups of the membrane and the cations with greater charge. Nyquist plots are shifted towards lower values of the real impedance, and its diameter decreases with the increase of concentration due to the decrease of the solution resistance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ion-exchange%20membranes" title="ion-exchange membranes">ion-exchange membranes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Electrochemical%20Impedance%20Spectrocopy" title=" Electrochemical Impedance Spectrocopy"> Electrochemical Impedance Spectrocopy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multivalent%20metal%20cations" title=" multivalent metal cations"> multivalent metal cations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=membrane%20system" title=" membrane system"> membrane system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22796/study-of-the-transport-of-multivalent-metal-cations-through-cation-exchange-membranes-by-electrochemical-impedance-spectroscopy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22796.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">529</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">143</span> An Intervention Method on Improving Teamwork Competence for Business Studies Undergraduates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Franco">Silvia Franco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcos%20Sarasola"> Marcos Sarasola</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Faculty of Business Administration at the Catholic University of Uruguay is performing an important educational innovation, unique in the country. In order to avoid the premature failure of metallic materials in marine environments, organic coatings have widely been used, due to their elevated corrosion resistance. Thermally-sprayed metals have recently been used in offshore applications, whereas ceramic materials are usually less employed, due to their high cost. The protectiveness of the coatings can be evaluated and categorized in corrosivity categories in accordance with the ISO 12944-6 Standard. According to this standard, for coatings that are supposed to work in marine environments, a C5-M category is required for components working out of the water or partially immersed in the splash zone, and an Im2 category for totally immersed components. C5-M/Im-2 high category would correspond to a durability of more than 20 years without maintenance in accordance with ISO 12944 and NORSOK M501 standards. In this work, the corrosion behavior of three potential coatings used in offshore applications has been evaluated. For this aim, the materials have been subjected to different environmental conditions in several climatic chambers (humidostatic, climatic, immersion, UV and salt-fog). The category of the coatings to each condition has been selected, in accordance with the previously mentioned standard. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cabinet" title="cabinet">cabinet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coatings" title=" coatings"> coatings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corrosion" title=" corrosion"> corrosion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=offshore" title=" offshore"> offshore</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58681/evaluation-of-corrosion-behaviour-of-coatings-applied-in-a-high-strength-low-alloy-steel-in-different-climatic-cabinets" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58681.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">421</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">140</span> Corrosion and Tribocorrosion Behaviour of Potential Coatings Applied in High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel for Offshore Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ainara%20Lopez-Ortega">Ainara Lopez-Ortega</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raquel%20Bayon"> Raquel Bayon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elena%20Rodriguez"> Elena Rodriguez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amaya%20Igartua"> Amaya Igartua</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The materials used in offshore structural applications are continuously subjected to aggressive environmental conditions that accelerate their degradation, thus shortening their useful life. Wear, corrosion and the effect of marine microorganisms are the main processes taking place in marine environments, and whenever they occur simultaneously the durability of materials is strongly reduced. In the present work, the tribocorrosion behaviour of a High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) steel and three coatings commonly used for protecting offshore components has been studied by means of unidirectional tribological tests in synthetic seawater. The coatings were found to enhance the tribological response of the uncoated steel and provide the system with improved corrosion resistance, in terms of smaller material losses and reduction of friction coefficients. The tests were repeated after ageing the materials in a salt-fog cabinet, and the aging process was found to slightly affect the performance of two of the coatings, in terms of higher material losses, meanwhile the third coating was not affected. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coatings" title="coatings">coatings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corrosion" title=" corrosion"> corrosion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high-strength%20low-alloy%20steel" title=" high-strength low-alloy steel"> high-strength low-alloy steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seawater" title=" seawater"> seawater</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tribocorrosion" title=" tribocorrosion"> tribocorrosion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58679/corrosion-and-tribocorrosion-behaviour-of-potential-coatings-applied-in-high-strength-low-alloy-steel-for-offshore-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58679.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">419</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">139</span> Atomic Force Microscopy Studies of DNA Binding Properties of the Archaeal Mini Chromosome Maintenance Complex</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amna%20Abdalla%20Mohammed%20Khalid">Amna Abdalla Mohammed Khalid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pietro%20Parisse"> Pietro Parisse</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Onesti"> Silvia Onesti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Loredana%20Casalis"> Loredana Casalis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Basic cellular processes as DNA replication are crucial to cell life. Bacteria perceive chemical gradients in the environment, such as nutrients, and also other individual bacteria, and move toward or in the opposite direction to those signals. The application example considered as a case study consists in establishing the dependency between the reaction yield of hydrogels based on polyacrylamide and the working conditions such as time, temperature, monomer, initiator, crosslinking agent and inclusion polymer concentrations, as well as type of the polymer added. This process is modeled with a neural network which is included in an optimization procedure based on BFO. An experimental study of BFO parameters is performed. The results show that the algorithm is quite robust and can obtain good results for diverse combinations of parameter values. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bacterial%20foraging" title="bacterial foraging">bacterial foraging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrogels" title=" hydrogels"> hydrogels</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modeling%20and%20optimization" title=" modeling and optimization"> modeling and optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20networks" title=" neural networks"> neural networks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/106154/a-bacterial-foraging-optimization-algorithm-applied-to-the-synthesis-of-polyacrylamide-hydrogels" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/106154.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">153</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">137</span> Smart Multifunctionalized and Responsive Polymersomes as Targeted and Selective Recognition Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Moreno">Silvia Moreno</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Banu%20Iyisan"> Banu Iyisan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hannes%20Gumz"> Hannes Gumz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brigitte%20Voit"> Brigitte Voit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dietmar%20Appelhans"> Dietmar Appelhans</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Polymersomes are materials which are considered as artificial counterparts of natural vesicles. The nanotechnology of such smart nanovesicles is very useful to enhance the efficiency of many therapeutic and diagnostic drugs. Those compounds show a higher stability, flexibility, and mechanical strength to the membrane compared to natural liposomes. In addition, they can be designed in detail, the permeability of the membrane can be controlled by different stimuli, and the surface can be functionalized with different biological molecules to facilitate monitoring and target. For this purpose, this study demonstrates the formation of multifunctional and pH sensitive polymersomes and their functionalization with different reactive groups or biomolecules inside and outside of polymersomes´ membrane providing by crossing the membrane and docking/undocking processes for biomedical applications. Overall, they are highly versatile and thus present new opportunities for the design of targeted and selective recognition systems, for example, in mimicking cell functions and in synthetic biology. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multifunctionalized" title="multifunctionalized">multifunctionalized</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pH%20stimulus" title=" pH stimulus"> pH stimulus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=controllable%20release" title=" controllable release"> controllable release</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cellular%20uptake" title=" cellular uptake"> cellular uptake</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67024/smart-multifunctionalized-and-responsive-polymersomes-as-targeted-and-selective-recognition-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67024.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">320</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">136</span> Evaluation of Limestone as Self-Curing Aggregate for Concretes in the Southeast of Yucatan Peninsula</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=D.%20G.%20Rejon-Parra">D. Due to its recent geological formation (Quaternary) and weathering effects causing an affordable aggregate for local manufacturers of concrete. It is characterized as lightweight aggregates (average density of 2,50), susceptible to abrasion and varying porosities (water content exceeding 7,50 % of its mass, in saturated condition). In this study, local aggregates with two moisture conditions (saturated and dry), have been examined in order to compare them for optimizing the performance of concrete. It is possible that these aggregates favour a phenomenon of mass transport (self-curing by porous aggregate); influencing the water reactions to form crystalline and gel hydration products. Based on the ACI methodology, a concrete mixture of 250 kg/cm2 was designed, with portland blended cement 30R. The bond between the mortar and the coarse aggregate was characterized as physicochemical based on trials which were carefully observed during time span of 28 days. The BET technique was used to analyse the micro porosity and surface areas of contact of the different crystalline phases of the limestone. Its chemical composition and crystal structures were verified with scanning electron microscopy SEM-EDS. On the third day, the samples with saturated aggregate reached 237 kg/cm2 of resistence, nearly the design strength; while samples with dry aggregate, exceeded the design strength, with a capacity of 308 kg/cm2. Aggregates in dry conditions demand a high quantity of water in the initial mixture, causing high resistance at the early stages. In saturated conditions, the development of resistance is progressive but constant. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=concrete" title="concrete">concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internal%20curing" title=" internal curing"> internal curing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=limestone%20aggregate" title=" limestone aggregate"> limestone aggregate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=porosity" title=" porosity"> porosity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29256/evaluation-of-limestone-as-self-curing-aggregate-for-concretes-in-the-southeast-of-yucatan-peninsula" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29256.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">390</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">135</span> De-Novo Structural Elucidation from Mass/NMR Spectra</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ismael%20Zamora">Ismael Zamora</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elisabeth%20Ortega"> Elisabeth Ortega</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tatiana%20Radchenko"> Tatiana Radchenko</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guillem%20Plasencia"> Guillem Plasencia</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The structure elucidation based on Mass Spectra (MS) data of unknown substances is an unresolved problem that affects many different fields of application. The recent overview of software available for structure elucidation of small molecules has shown the demand for efficient computational tool that will be able to perform structure elucidation of unknown small molecules and peptides. We developed an algorithm for De-Novo fragment analysis based on MS data that proposes a set of scored and ranked structures that are compatible with the MS and MSMS spectra. Several different algorithms were developed depending on the initial set of fragments and the structure building processes. Also, in all cases, several scores for the final molecule ranking were computed. They were validated with small and middle databases (DB) with the eleven test set compounds. Similar results were obtained from any of the databases that contained the fragments of the expected compound. We presented an algorithm. Or De-Novo fragment analysis based on only mass spectrometry (MS) data only that proposed a set of scored/ranked structures that was validated on different types of databases and showed good results as proof of concept. Moreover, the solutions proposed by Mass Spectrometry were submitted to the prediction of NMR spectra in order to elucidate which of the proposed structures was compatible with the NMR spectra collected. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=De%20Novo" title="De Novo">De Novo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structure%20elucidation" title=" structure elucidation"> structure elucidation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mass%20spectrometry" title=" mass spectrometry"> mass spectrometry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NMR" title=" NMR"> NMR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58568/de-novo-structural-elucidation-from-massnmr-spectra" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58568.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">296</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">134</span> Foreign Language Reading Comprehenmsion and the Linguistic Intervention Program</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Hvozd%C3%ADkov%C3%A1">Silvia Hvozdíková</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eva%20Stranovsk%C3%A1"> Eva Stranovská</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of the article is to discuss the results of the research conducted during the period of two semesters paying attention to selected factors of foreign language reading comprehension through the means of Linguistic Intervention Program.
