Small wonder that it has attracted so much scholarly attention, although the fact that almost all of it has been in an Irish setting is perhaps surprising, given the illustrative value of the case in respect of a philosophical quandary that continues to command attention in all developed constitutional democracies. Should judges have power to invalidate legislation? This article revisits Ryan v Lennon with an eye on the importance of the idea of “democracy” in the case. It assesses the meaning of democracy: what its purpose might be and what practical implications might follow, specifically in respect of judicial review. Based on this assessment, it argues for a particular institutional model for the vindication of constitutional rights. In the context of calls for the drafting of a new constitution for Ireland, however forlorn these calls might be for the moment, it makes a broad and general case for the abandonment of judicial supremacy and for the taking up of a model in which judges have a constrained rights reviewing role that informs a more robust role that legislators would play, thereby enhancing the quality of the control that citizens have over their own laws. The article is in three parts. Part I assesses the exercise of judicial power over legislation in Ireland, with the primary emphasis on Ryan v Lennon. It considers the role played by the idea of democracy in that case and relates it to certain apparently intractable dilemmas that emerged in later Irish constitutional jurisprudence. Part II considers the concept of democracy more generally, with an eye on overall implications for judicial power. It argues for an account of democracy based on the idea of equally shared popular control over government. Part III assesses how this understanding might inform a new constitutional arrangement in the Irish setting for the vindication of fundamental rights. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constitutional%20rights" title="constitutional rights">constitutional rights</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=democracy%20as%20popular%20control" title=" democracy as popular control"> democracy as popular control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ireland" title=" Ireland"> Ireland</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=judicial%20power" title=" judicial power"> judicial power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=republican%20theory" title=" republican theory"> republican theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan%20v%20Lennon" title=" Ryan v Lennon"> Ryan v Lennon</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24757/revisiting-ryan-v-lennon-to-make-the-case-against-judicial-supremacy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24757.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">556</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">764</span> Khaya Cellulose Supported Copper Nanoparticles for Chemo Selective Aza-Michael Reactions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Shaheen%20Sarkar">M. The efficiency of the catalysts (base and nucleophiles) and side reactions during the thiol-Michael addition were investigated. Dimethylphenylphosphine efficiently initiated the thiol-Michael addition polymerization for synthesizing a series of bio-based furan polymers with different structure and properties. The benzene rings or hydroxyl groups present in the polymer chains increased the glass transition temperature (Tg) of poly (β-thioether ester). Additionally, copolymers with various compositions were obtained via adding different ratio of 1,6-hexanedithiols to 1,4-benzenedithiols. 1H NMR analysis revealed that experimental ratios of two dithiols monomers matched well with theoretical ratios. The occurrence of a reversible Diels-Alder reaction between furan rings and maleimide groups allowed poly (β-thioether ester) to be dynamically crosslinked. These polymers offer the potentials to produce materials from biomass that have both practical mechanical properties and reprocessing ability. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copolymers" title="copolymers">copolymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Diels-Alder%20reaction" title=" Diels-Alder reaction"> Diels-Alder reaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydroxymethylfurfural" title=" hydroxymethylfurfural"> hydroxymethylfurfural</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thiol-Michael%20addition" title=" Thiol-Michael addition"> Thiol-Michael addition</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68860/bio-furan-based-poly-v-thioether-ester-synthesized-via-thiol-michael-addition-polymerization-with-tunable-structure-and-properties" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68860.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">330</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">762</span> Using Analytic Hierarchy Process as a Decision-Making Tool in Project Portfolio Management</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Darius%20Danesh">Darius Danesh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20J.%20Ryan"> Michael J. To evaluate overall efficiency at the portfolio level, it is essential to identify the functionality of specific projects as well as to aggregate those findings in a mathematically meaningful manner that indicates the strategic significance of the associated projects at a number of levels of abstraction. PPM success is directly associated with the quality of decisions made and poor judgment increases portfolio costs. Hence, various Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques have been designed and employed to support the decision-making functions. This paper reviews possible option to improve the decision-making outcomes in the organisational portfolio management processes using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) both from academic and practical perspectives and will examine the usability, certainty and quality of the technique. The results of the study will also provide insight into the technical risk associated with current decision-making model to underpin initiative tracking and strategic portfolio management. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analytic%20hierarchy%20process" title="analytic hierarchy process">analytic hierarchy process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decision%20support%20systems" title=" decision support systems"> decision support systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-criteria%20decision%20making" title=" multi-criteria decision making"> multi-criteria decision making</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=project%20portfolio%20management" title=" project portfolio management"> project portfolio management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39497/using-analytic-hierarchy-process-as-a-decision-making-tool-in-project-portfolio-management" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39497.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">321</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">761</span> Parathyroid Hormone Receptor 1 as a Prognostic Indicator in Canine Osteosarcoma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Awf%20A.%20Al-Khan">Awf A. In addition to their critical roles in bone formation and remodeling, parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) and its receptor (PTHR1) are involved in progression and metastasis of many types of tumours in humans. The aims of this study were to determine the localisation and expression levels of PTHrP and PTHR1 in canine OS tissues using immunohistochemistry and to investigate if this expression is correlated with survival time. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples from 44 dogs with known survival time that had been diagnosed with primary osteosarcoma were analysed for localisation of PTHrP and PTHR1. Findings showed that both PTHrP and PTHR1 were present in all OS samples. The dogs with high level of PTHR1 protein (16%) had decreased survival time (P<0.05) compared to dogs with less PTHR1 protein. PTHrP levels did not correlate with survival time (P>0.05). The results of this study indicate that the PTHR1 is expressed differently in canine OS tissues and this may be correlated with poor prognosis. This may mean that PTHR1 may be useful as a prognostic indicator in canine OS and could represent a good therapeutic target in OS. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dog" title="dog">dog</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=expression" title=" expression"> expression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=osteosarcoma" title=" osteosarcoma"> osteosarcoma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parathyroid%20hormone%20receptor%201%20%28PTHR1%29" title=" parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTHR1)"> parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTHR1)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parathyroid%20hormone-related%20protein%20%28PTHrP%29" title=" parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP)"> parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=survival" title=" survival"> survival</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55383/parathyroid-hormone-receptor-1-as-a-prognostic-indicator-in-canine-osteosarcoma" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55383.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">276</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">760</span> Detection and Tracking Approach Using an Automotive Radar to Increase Active Pedestrian Safety</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Heuer">Michael Heuer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayoub%20Al-Hamadi"> Ayoub Al-Hamadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexander%20Rain"> Alexander Rain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc-Michael%20Meinecke"> Marc-Michael Meinecke</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Vulnerable road users, e.g. pedestrians, have a high impact on fatal accident numbers. To reduce these statistics, car manufactures are intensively developing suitable safety systems. Hereby, fast and reliable environment recognition is a major challenge. In this paper we describe a tracking approach that is only based on a 24 GHz radar sensor. While common radar signal processing loses much information, we make use of a track-before-detect filter to incorporate raw measurements. It is explained how the Range-Doppler spectrum can help to indicated pedestrians and stabilize tracking even in occultation scenarios compared to sensors in series. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radar" title="radar">radar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedestrian%20detection" title=" pedestrian detection"> pedestrian detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20safety" title=" active safety"> active safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensor" title=" sensor"> sensor</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6539/detection-and-tracking-approach-using-an-automotive-radar-to-increase-active-pedestrian-safety" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6539.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">529</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">759</span> Electron-Ion Recombination of N^{2+} and O^{3+} Ions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shahin%20%20A.%20Abdel-Naby">Shahin A. Dielectronic recombination (DR) rate coefficients are calculated for boron-like nitrogen and oxygen ions using state-of-the-art multi-configuration Breit-Pauli atomic structure AUTOSTRUCTURE collisional package within the generalized collisional-radiative framework. The calculations are performed in intermediate coupling scheme associated with n = 0 (2  2) and n = 1 (2  3) core-excitations. Good agreements are found between the theoretically convoluted rate coefficients and the experimental measurements performed at CRYRING heavy-ion storage ring for both ions. Fitting coefficients for the rate coefficients are produced for these ions in the temperature range q2(102-107) K, where q is the ion charge before recombination. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Atomic%20data" title="Atomic data">Atomic data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=atomic%20processes" title=" atomic processes"> atomic processes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electron-ion%20collision" title=" electron-ion collision"> electron-ion collision</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plasma" title=" plasma"> plasma</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123894/electron-ion-recombination-of-n2-and-o3-ions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123894.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">167</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">758</span> The Effect of Torsional Angle on Reversible Electron Transfer in Donor: Acceptor Frameworks Using Bis(Imino)Pyridines as Proxy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan%20Brisbin">Ryan Brisbin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hassan%20Harb"> Hassan Harb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Justin%20Debow"> Justin Debow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hrant%20Hratchian"> Hrant Hratchian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan%20Baxter"> Ryan Baxter</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Donor-Acceptor (DA) frameworks are crucial parts of any technology requiring charge transport. This type of behavior is ubiquitous across technologies from semi conductors to solar panels. Currently, most DA systems involve metallic components, but progressive research is being pursued to design fully organic DA systems to be used as both organic semi-conductors and light emitting diodes. These systems are currently comprised of conductive polymers and salts. However, little is known about the effect of various physical aspects (size, torsional angle, electron density) have on the act of reversible charge transfer. Herein, the effect of torsional angle on reductive stability in bis(imino)pyridines is analyzed using a combination of single crystal analysis and electro-chemical peak current ratios from cyclic voltammetry. The computed free energies of reduction and electron attachment points were also investigated through density functional theory and natural ionization orbital theory to gain greater understanding of the global effect torsional angles have on electron transfer in bis(imino)pyridines. Findings indicated that torsional angles are a multi-variable parameter affected by both local steric constraints and resonant electronic contributions. Local steric impacted torsional angles demonstrated a negligible effect on electrochemical reversibility, while resonant affected torsional angles were observed to significantly alter the electrochemical reversibility. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyclic%20voltammetry" title="cyclic voltammetry">cyclic voltammetry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bis%28imino%29pyridines" title=" bis(imino)pyridines"> bis(imino)pyridines</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structure-activity%20relationship" title=" structure-activity relationship"> structure-activity relationship</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=torsional%20angles" title=" torsional angles"> torsional angles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133994/the-effect-of-torsional-angle-on-reversible-electron-transfer-in-donor-acceptor-frameworks-using-bisiminopyridines-as-proxy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133994.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">237</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">757</span> Effectiveness of a Sports Nutrition Intervention for High-School Athletes: A Feasibility Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Ryan">Michael Ryan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rosemary%20E.%20Borgerding"> Rosemary E. The study aimed to improve the food and water intake of high-school athletes, evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the intervention, and assess changes in body fat. Data were collected through observations, questionnaires, and interviews. Additionally, bioelectrical impedance analysis was performed to assess the body composition of athletes both before and after the intervention. Athletes (n=25) participated in researcher-monitored training sessions three times a week over the course of 12 weeks. During these sessions, in addition to completing their auxiliary sports training, participants were exposed to educational interventions aimed at improving their nutrition. These included discussions regarding current eating habits, nutritional guidelines for athletes, and individualized recommendations. Food was also made available to athletes for consumption before and after practice. Meals of balanced macronutrient composition were prepared and provided to athletes on four separate occasions throughout the intervention, either prior to or following a competitive event such as a tournament or game. A paired t-test was used to determine the statistical significance of the changes in body fat percentage. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between pre and post-intervention body fat percentage (p= .006). Cohen's d of 0.603 was calculated, indicating a moderate effect size. In conclusion, this study provides evidence that a sports nutrition intervention that combines food availability, explicit prescription, and education can be effective in improving the body composition of high-school athletes. However, it's worth noting that this study had a small sample size, and the conclusions cannot be generalized to a larger population. Further research is needed to assess the scalability of this study. This preliminary study demonstrated the feasibility of this type of nutritional intervention and laid the groundwork for a larger, more extensive study to be conducted in the future. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioelectrical%20impedance" title="bioelectrical impedance">bioelectrical impedance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=body%20composition" title=" body composition"> body composition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high-school%20athletes" title=" high-school athletes"> high-school athletes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sports%20nutrition" title=" sports nutrition"> sports nutrition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sports%20pedagogy" title=" sports pedagogy"> sports pedagogy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161868/effectiveness-of-a-sports-nutrition-intervention-for-high-school-athletes-a-feasibility-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161868.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">94</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">756</span> Irish Film Tourism, Neocolonialism and Star Wars: Charting a Course Towards Ecologically and Culturally Considered Representation and Tourism on Skellig Michael</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rachel%20Gough">Rachel Gough</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In 2014, Skellig Michael, an island off Ireland’s western seaboard and UNESCO world heritage site became a major setting in Disney’s Star Wars franchise. The subsequent influx of tourists to the site has proven to be a point of contention nationally. The increased visitor numbers have uplifted certain areas of the local economy, the mainland, but have caused irreparable damage to historic monuments and to endangered bird populations who breed on the island. Recent research carried out by a state body suggests far-reaching and longterm negative impacts on the island’s culture and environment, should the association with the Star Wars franchise persist. In spite of this, the film has been widely endorsed by the Irish government as providing a vital economic boost to historically marginalised rural areas through film tourism. This paper argues quite plainly that what is taking place on Skellig is neocolonialism. Skellig Michael’s unique resources, its aesthetic qualities, its ecosystem, and its cultural currency have been sold by the state to a multinational corporation, who profit from their use. Meanwhile, locals are left to do their best to turn a market trend into sustainable business at the expense of culture ecology and community. This paper intends to be the first dedicated study into the psychogeographic and cultural impact of Skellig Michael’s deterioration as a result of film tourism. It will discuss the projected impact of this incident on Irish culture more broadly and finally will attempt to lay out a roadmap for more collaborative filmmaking and touristic approach, which allows local cultures and ecosystem’s to thrive without drastically inhibiting cultural production. This paper will ultimately find that the consequences of this representation call for a requirement to read tourism as a split concept — namely into what we might loosely call “eco-tourism” and more capital-based “profit-bottom-line tourism.” <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ecology" title="ecology">ecology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=film%20tourism" title=" film tourism"> film tourism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neocolonialism" title=" neocolonialism"> neocolonialism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability" title=" sustainability"> sustainability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144181/irish-film-tourism-neocolonialism-and-star-wars-charting-a-course-towards-ecologically-and-culturally-considered-representation-and-tourism-on-skellig-michael" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144181.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">206</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">755</span> The Effect of Relationship Marketing on Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction without Service Providers&#039; Emotional Intelligence: The Case of the Insurance Industry in Ghana</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frank%20Frimpong%20Opuni">Frank Frimpong Opuni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Mba%20Allan"> Michael Mba Allan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kwame%20Adu-Gyamfi"> Kwame Adu-Gyamfi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Sarkodie%20Baffoe"> Michael Sarkodie Baffoe</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper assesses the effect of relationship marketing on service quality and customer satisfaction from the perspective of the moderating role of emotional intelligence in the insurance industry in Ghana. A descriptive quantitative research technique was employed. A random sample of 384 each of customers and service providers in 3 insurance firms in Accra were used as the source of data. According to findings, emotional intelligence makes a strong positive effect on relationship marketing at 5% significance level, r (283) = .817, p = .000. Though relationship marketing makes a strong positive effect on service quality (r = .767, p < .05) and customer satisfaction (r = .647, p < .05), this effect becomes insignificant (p > .05) when the effect of emotional intelligence on relationship marketing is controlled for. It is therefore recommended that insurance firms give priority to equipping their relationship employees with emotional intelligence to maximise service quality and customer satisfaction. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relationship%20marketing" title="relationship marketing">relationship marketing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=service%20quality" title=" service quality"> service quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=customer%20satisfaction" title=" customer satisfaction"> customer satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotional%20intelligence" title=" emotional intelligence"> emotional intelligence</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52190/the-effect-of-relationship-marketing-on-service-quality-and-customer-satisfaction-without-service-providers-emotional-intelligence-the-case-of-the-insurance-industry-in-ghana" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52190.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">481</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">754</span> Understanding Barriers to Sports Participation as a Means of Achieving Sustainable Development in Michael Otedola College of Primary Education</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osifeko%20Olalekan%20Remigious">Osifeko Olalekan Remigious</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osifeko%20Christiana%20Osikorede"> Osifeko Christiana Osikorede</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Folarin%20Bolanle%20Eunice"> Folarin Bolanle Eunice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olugbenga%20Adebola%20Shodiya"> Olugbenga Adebola Shodiya</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> During these difficult economic times, nations are looking for ways to improve their finances, preserve the environment as well as the socio-political climate and educational institutions, which are needed to increase their economy and preserve their sustainable development. Sport is one of the ways through which sustainable development can be achieved. The purpose of this study was to examine and understanding barriers to participation in sport. A total of 1,025 students were purposively selected from five schools (School of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Languages, School of Education, School of Sciences and School of Vocational and Technical Education) in Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED). A questionnaire, with a tested reliability coefficient of 0.71, was used for data collection. The collected data were subjected to the descriptive survey research design. The findings showed that sports facilities, funding and lecture schedules were significant barriers to sports participation. It was recommended that sports facilities be provided by the Lagos State government. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sports" title="sports">sports</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20development" title=" sustainable development"> sustainable development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Participation" title=" Participation"> Participation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=State%20government" title=" State government"> State government</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=barriers" title=" barriers"> barriers</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84334/understanding-barriers-to-sports-participation-as-a-means-of-achieving-sustainable-development-in-michael-otedola-college-of-primary-education" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84334.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">259</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">753</span> Differentiation: A Risky Route To An Inclusive Reality </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marie%20C.%20Ryan">Marie C. These developments have come with a cost, which is a toxic by-product. The rise of aluminum production has been accompanied by the rise of a waste material called Bauxite Residue or Red Mud. This toxic material has been proved to be harmful to the environment, yet, there is no proper way to dispose or recycle it. Herewith, a new experimental method to utilize this waste in the building material is proposed. A method to mix red mud, fly ash, and some other ingredients is explored to create a new construction material that can satisfy the minimum required strength for bricks. It concludes that it is possible to produce bricks with enough strength that is suitable for constriction in environments with low to moderate weather conditions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bauxite%20residue" title="bauxite residue">bauxite residue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=brick" title=" brick"> brick</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=red%20mud" title=" red mud"> red mud</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recycling" title=" recycling"> recycling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109004/utilization-of-bauxite-residue-in-construction-materials-an-experimental-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109004.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">167</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">750</span> A Clinician’s Perspective on Electroencephalography Annotation and Analysis for Driver Drowsiness Estimation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ruxandra%20Aursulesei">Ruxandra Aursulesei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20O%E2%80%99Callaghan"> David O’Callaghan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cian%20Ryan"> Cian Ryan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Diarmaid%20O%E2%80%99Cualain"> Diarmaid O’Cualain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Viktor%20Varkarakis"> Viktor Varkarakis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alina%20Sultana"> Alina Sultana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joseph%20Lemley"> Joseph Lemley</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Human errors caused by drowsiness are among the leading causes of road accidents. A key factor that determines the applicability of MCP-PMTs in their lifetime, especially when they are used in high event rate experiments. We have developed a novel method for the investigation of the aging behavior of an MCP-PMT on an accelerated basis. The method involves exposing a localized region of the MCP-PMT to photons at a high repetition rate. This pixel-based method was inspired by earlier results showing that damage to the photocathode of the MCP-PMT occurs primarily at the site of light exposure and that the surrounding region undergoes minimal damage. One advantage of the pixel-based method is that it allows the dynamics of photo-cathode damage to be studied at multiple locations within the same MCP-PMT under different operating conditions. In this work, we use the pixel-based accelerated lifetime test to investigate the aging behavior of a 20 cm x 20 cm Large Area Picosecond Photo Detector (LAPPD) manufactured by INCOM Inc. at multiple locations within the same device under different operating conditions. We compare the aging behavior of the MCP-PMT obtained from the first lifetime test conducted under high gain conditions to the lifetime obtained at a different gain. Through this work, we aim to correlate the lifetime of the MCP-PMT and the rate of ion feedback, which is a function of the gain of each MCP, and which can also vary from point to point across a large area (400 $cm^2$) MCP. The tests were made possible by the uniqueness of the LAPPD design, which allows independent control of the gain of the chevron stacked MCPs. We will further discuss the implications of our results for optimizing the operating conditions of the detector when used in high event rate experiments. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electron%20multipliers%20%28vacuum%29" title="electron multipliers (vacuum)">electron multipliers (vacuum)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LAPPD" title=" LAPPD"> LAPPD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lifetime" title=" lifetime"> lifetime</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-channel%20plate%20photo-multipliers%20tubes" title=" micro-channel plate photo-multipliers tubes"> micro-channel plate photo-multipliers tubes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photoemission" title=" photoemission"> photoemission</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time-of-flight" title=" time-of-flight"> time-of-flight</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163367/investigation-for-pixel-based-accelerated-aging-of-large-area-picosecond-photo-detectors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163367.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">748</span> The Next Generation Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay Experiment nEXO</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan%20Maclellan">Ryan Maclellan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The nEXO Collaboration is designing a very large detector for neutrinoless double beta decay of Xe-136. This project, under the guidance of Dr. Michael Harris from the Florida Atlantic University, seeks to understand how the role of an ama de casa provides a secure environment for men and women, coexists with economic and environmental constraints that explain the origins of how this environment has been formed. The coastal community aspects of familia (family), trabajo (work), relación (relationships), machismo (masculinity), feminista (femininity), and the culture of Ecuador define the ways of life in a coastal setting. This ethnographic research project included the following methodologies: environment mapping, conducting interviews, surveys, participant observation, direct and indirect observations, and integration into daily life. Immersion into the daily life and building relationships with the local people allowed the documentation of intricacies of both the cultural and social spheres. The findings of this research offer insight on how culture, economics, and environment can form female and male agency. Our investigation shows that occupations such as fishermen, laborers, ama de casas, and even students utilize occupational routes to create social agency in the face of economic and environmental constraints in Ecuador. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ecuador" title="Ecuador">Ecuador</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethnography" title=" ethnography"> ethnography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20division%20of%20labor" title=" gender division of labor"> gender division of labor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20roles" title=" gender roles"> gender roles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87503/ama-de-casa-gender-division-of-labor-the-response-to-environmental-and-economic-constraints-ecuador" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87503.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">242</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">746</span> Multimodal Database of Retina Images for Africa: The First Open Access Digital Repository for Retina Images in Sub Saharan Africa</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Simon%20Arunga">Simon Arunga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Teddy%20Kwaga"> Teddy Kwaga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rita%20Kageni"> Rita Kageni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Gichangi"> Michael Gichangi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nyawira%20Mwangi"> Nyawira Mwangi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fred%20Kagwa"> Fred Kagwa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rogers%20Mwavu"> Rogers Mwavu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amos%20Baryashaba"> Amos Baryashaba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luis%20F.%20Nakayama"> Luis F. Methods: Data and retina images were ethically sourced from sites in Uganda and Kenya. Data on medical history, visual acuity, ocular examination, blood pressure, and blood sugar were collected. Retina images were captured using fundus cameras (Foru3-nethra and Canon CR-Mark-1). Images were stored on a secure online database. Results: The database consists of 7,859 retinal images in portable network graphics format from 1,988 participants. Images from patients with human immunodeficiency virus were 18.9%, 18.2% of images were from hypertensive patients, 12.8% from diabetic patients, and the rest from normal’ participants. Conclusion: Publicly available data repositories are a valuable asset in the development of AI technology. Therefore, is a need for the expansion of MoDRIA so as to provide larger datasets that are more representative of Sub-Saharan data. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=retina%20images" title="retina images">retina images</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MoDRIA" title=" MoDRIA"> MoDRIA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20repository" title=" image repository"> image repository</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=African%20database" title=" African database"> African database</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169515/multimodal-database-of-retina-images-for-africa-the-first-open-access-digital-repository-for-retina-images-in-sub-saharan-africa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169515.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">127</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">745</span> Container Chaos: The Impact of a Casual Game on Learning and Behavior</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lori%20L.%20Scarlatos">Lori L. A casual mobile game, Container Chaos, was created to teach undergraduate students about the carbon footprint of various disposable beverage containers. Learning was tested with a short quiz, and behavior was tested by observing which beverage containers players choose when offered a drink and a snack. The game was tested multiple times, under a variety of different circumstances. Findings of these tests indicate that, with extended play over time, players can learn new information and sometimes even change their behavior as a result. This has implications for how other casual games can be used to teach concepts and possibly modify behavior. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=behavior" title="behavior">behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carbon%20footprint" title=" carbon footprint"> carbon footprint</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=casual%20games" title=" casual games"> casual games</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20impact" title=" environmental impact"> environmental impact</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=material%20sciences" title=" material sciences"> material sciences</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117765/container-chaos-the-impact-of-a-casual-game-on-learning-and-behavior" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117765.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">160</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">744</span> Taiwan’s Democratic Institutions: The Electoral Rise and Recall of Kuomintang’s Han Kuo-YU Mayor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan%20Brading">Ryan Brading</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The results of Taiwan’s presidential election, which took place on 11 January 2020, were alarming for the Kuomintang (KMT). A party that was once the pillar of Taiwan’s institutional apparatus is now losing its direction. Since 2016, the inability of KMT to construct a winning presidential election campaign strategy has made its Chinese ancestry an obstacle in Taiwan’s vibrant and transparent democracy. The appearance of the little-known legislator Han Kuo-yu as the leadership alternative opened the possibility of reigniting the party. Han’s victory in the Kaohsiung mayoral election in November 2018 provided hope that Han could also win the presidency. Wrongly described as a populist, Han, however, was defeated in the January 2020 presidential race. This article analyses why Han is not a populist, his triumph in Kaohsiung, humiliation in running for the presidency and suffering a complete ‘loss of face’ when Kaohsiungers democratically ousted him from the mayoral post on 6 June 2020. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=populism" title="populism">populism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=1992%20consensus" title=" 1992 consensus"> 1992 consensus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=youth%20vote" title=" youth vote"> youth vote</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taiwan" title=" Taiwan"> Taiwan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recall" title=" recall"> recall</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144351/taiwans-democratic-institutions-the-electoral-rise-and-recall-of-kuomintangs-han-kuo-yu-mayor" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144351.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">175</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">743</span> Prevalence of Plastic Use in Building and Construction: An Analysis of 250 Common Building Materials</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Teresa%20McGrath">Teresa McGrath</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan%20Johnson"> Ryan Johnson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rebecca%20Stamm"> Rebecca Stamm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cassidy%20Clarity"> Cassidy Clarity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wei%20Yung%20Lui"> Wei Yung Lui</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Building and construction is the second largest plastic user behind packaging, accounting for 16% of plastic production. However, the molecular mechanisms by which diabetes contributes to endothelial inflammation remain to be established. Using In-vitro cultured Human cells and Hsp60 specific ELISA assays, we show that Hsp60 is not only induced in Human monocyte cells under hyperglycaemic conditions but that the Hsp60 is also secreted from these cells. Furthermore, we also demonstrate that the Hsp60 secreted from these monocyte cells is also able to activate Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR4) from Human endothelial cells. This suggests that a potential link may exist between the hyperglycaemia-induced expression of Hsp60 in monocyte cells and vascular inflammation. Circulating levels of Hsp60 due to mitochondrial stress in diabetes patients could, therefore, be an important modulator of inflammation in endothelial cells and thus contribute to the increased incidences of atherosclerosis in diabetes mellitus. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mitochondria" title="mitochondria">mitochondria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hsp60" title=" Hsp60"> Hsp60</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inflammation" title=" inflammation"> inflammation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diabetes%20mellitus" title=" diabetes mellitus"> diabetes mellitus</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/107492/activation-of-tnf-a-from-human-endothelial-cells-by-exposure-of-the-mitochondrial-stress-protein-hsp60-secreted-from-thp-1-monocytes-to-high-glucose" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/107492.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">181</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">741</span> Development of a Telemedical Network Supporting an Automated Flow Cytometric Analysis for the Clinical Follow-up of Leukaemia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claude%20Takenga">Claude Takenga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rolf-Dietrich%20Berndt"> Rolf-Dietrich Berndt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erling%20Si"> Erling Si</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Markus%20Diem"> Markus Diem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guohui%20Qiao"> Guohui Qiao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Melanie%20Gau"> Melanie Gau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Brandstoetter"> Michael Brandstoetter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Martin%20Kampel"> Martin Kampel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Dworzak"> Michael Dworzak </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), treatment response is increasingly evaluated with minimal residual disease (MRD) analyses. Flow Cytometry (FCM) is a fast and sensitive method to detect MRD. However, the interpretation of these multi-parametric data requires intensive operator training and experience. This paper presents a pipeline-software, as a ready-to-use FCM-based MRD-assessment tool for the daily clinical practice for patients with ALL. The new tool increases accuracy in assessment of FCM-MRD in samples which are difficult to analyse by conventional operator-based gating since computer-aided analysis potentially has a superior resolution due to utilization of the whole multi-parametric FCM-data space at once instead of step-wise, two-dimensional plot-based visualization. The system developed as a telemedical network reduces the work-load and lab-costs, staff-time needed for training, continuous quality control, operator-based data interpretation. It allows dissemination of automated FCM-MRD analysis to medical centres which have no established expertise for the benefit of an even larger community of diseased children worldwide. We established a telemedical network system for analysis and clinical follow-up and treatment monitoring of Leukaemia. The system is scalable and adapted to link several centres and laboratories worldwide. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20security" title="data security">data security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20cytometry" title=" flow cytometry"> flow cytometry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leukaemia" title=" leukaemia"> leukaemia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=telematics%20platform" title=" telematics platform"> telematics platform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=telemedicine" title=" telemedicine"> telemedicine</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50453/development-of-a-telemedical-network-supporting-an-automated-flow-cytometric-analysis-for-the-clinical-follow-up-of-leukaemia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50453.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">984</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">740</span> Approach to Establish Logistics as a Central Scientific Discipline of Tomorrow&#039;s Industry</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johannes%20Dregger">Johannes Dregger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Schmidt"> Michael Schmidt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christian%20Prasse"> Christian Prasse</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20ten%20Hompel"> Michael ten Hompel</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Most of the today’s companies face increasing need to operate efficiently. Driven by global trends like shorter product cycles, mass customization and the rising speed of delivery, manufacturing value chains are becoming more and more distributed. Manufacturing processes are becoming highly integrated, e.g. 3D printing. All these changes are affecting companies´ organization. They are leading towards individual, small scale, and ad-hoc logistics processes and structures, and finally, towards a significant increase in the importance of logistics itself since traditional value chains transform into agile value networks. In the past logistics has been following manufacturing but in the future industry, this role allocation might change. With this increase in the logistics practice of companies and businesses, the relevance of logistics research as the methodological foundation of logistics networks and processes is gaining importance. Logistics research is evolving into a central and highly interdisciplinary science for the future industry. Using the example of Germany, this paper discusses ways to establish logistics as a central scientific discipline of the future industry. About three million people work in the logistics sector in Germany. Only automotive and retail industry have more employees. Even though there is a bunch of logistics degree programs at more than 100 institutions of higher education, a common understanding of logistics as a research discipline is missing. In this paper an innovative approach will be presented, including; identified perspectives on logistics, such as process orientation, IT orientation or employees orientation, relevant scientific disciplines for logistics science, a concept for interdisciplinary research approaches to unify the perspectives of the different scientific disciplines on logistics and the methodological base of logistics science. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=logistics" title="logistics">logistics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=logistics%20science" title=" logistics science"> logistics science</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=logistics%20management" title=" logistics management"> logistics management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=future%20challenges" title=" future challenges"> future challenges</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76058/approach-to-establish-logistics-as-a-central-scientific-discipline-of-tomorrows-industry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76058.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">314</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">739</span> On Boundary Values of Hardy Space Banach Space-Valued Functions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Irina%20Peterburgsky">Irina Peterburgsky</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Let T be a unit circumference of a complex plane, E be a Banach space, E* and E** be its conjugate and second conjugate, respectively. In general, a Hardy space Hp(E), p ≥1, where functions act from the open unit disk to E, could contain a function for which even weak nontangential (angular) boundary value in the space E** does not exist at any point of the unit circumference T (C. Grossetete.) The situation is "better" when certain restrictions to the Banach space of values are applied (more or less resembling a classical case of scalar-valued functions depending on constrains, as shown by R. Ryan.) This paper shows that, nevertheless, in the case of a Banach space of a general type, the following positive statement is true: Proposition. For any function f(z) from Hp(E), p ≥ 1, there exists a function F(eiθ) on the unit circumference T to E** whose Poisson (in the Pettis sense) is integral regains the function f(z) on the open unit disk. Some characteristics of the function F(eiθ) are demonstrated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hardy%20spaces" title="hardy spaces">hardy spaces</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Banach%20space-valued%20function" title=" Banach space-valued function"> Banach space-valued function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=boundary%20values" title=" boundary values"> boundary values</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pettis%20integral" title=" Pettis integral"> Pettis integral</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142709/on-boundary-values-of-hardy-space-banach-space-valued-functions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142709.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">249</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">738</span> Bionaut™: A Microrobotic Drug-Device Platform for the Local Treatment of Brainstem Gliomas</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alex%20Kiselyov">Alex Kiselyov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Suehyun%20Cho"> Suehyun Cho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Darrell%20Harrington%3B%20Florent%20Cros"> Darrell Harrington; Florent Cros</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olin%20Palmer"> Olin Palmer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Caputo"> John Caputo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Kardosh"> Michael Kardosh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eran%20Oren"> Eran Oren</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=William%20Loudon"> William Loudon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Shpigelmacher"> Michael Shpigelmacher</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Despite the most aggressive surgical and adjuvant therapeutic strategies, treatment of both pediatric and adult brainstem tumors remains problematic. Novel strategies, including targeted biologics, immunotherapy, and specialized delivery systems such as convection-enhanced delivery (CED), have been proposed. While some of these novel treatments are entering phase I trials, the field is still in need of treatment(s) that exhibits dramatically enhanced potency with optimal therapeutic ratio. Bionaut Labs has developed a modular microrobotic platform for performing localized delivery of diverse therapeutics in vivo. Our biocompatible particles (Bionauts™) are externally propelled and visualized in real-time. Bionauts™ are specifically designed to enhance the effect of radiation therapy via anatomically precise delivery of a radiosensitizing agent, as exemplified by temozolomide (TMZ) and Avastin™ to the brainstem gliomas of diverse origin. The treatment protocol is designed to furnish a better therapeutic outcome due to the localized (vs systemic) delivery of the drug to the neoplastic lesion(s) for use as a synergistic combination of radiation and radiosensitizing agent. In addition, the procedure is minimally invasive and is expected to be appropriate for both adult and pediatric patients. Current progress, including platform optimization, selection of the lead radiosensitizer as well as in vivo safety studies of the Bionauts™ in large animals, specifically the spine and the brain of porcine and ovine models, will be discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bionaut" title="Bionaut">Bionaut</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=brainstem" title=" brainstem"> brainstem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=glioma" title=" glioma"> glioma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=local%20delivery" title=" local delivery"> local delivery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-robot" title=" micro-robot"> micro-robot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radiosensitizer" title=" radiosensitizer"> radiosensitizer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131922/bionaut-a-microrobotic-drug-device-platform-for-the-local-treatment-of-brainstem-gliomas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131922.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">195</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">737</span> Effective Width of Reinforced Concrete U-Shaped Walls Due to Shear Lag Effects</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan%20D.%20Hoult">Ryan D. However, in reality, a shear flow would develop in non-rectangular sections, where the longitudinal strains in between the web and flanges of the element would lag behind those at the boundary ends. This phenomenon, known as shear lag, can significantly reduce the expected moment capacity of non-rectangular reinforced concrete walls. This study focuses on shear lag effects in reinforced concrete U-shaped walls, which are commonly used as lateral load resisting elements in reinforced concrete buildings. An extensive number of finite element modelling analyses are conducted to estimate the vertical strain distributions across the web and flanges of a U-shaped wall with different axial load ratios and longitudinal reinforcement detailing. The results show that shear lag effects are prominent and sometimes significant in U-shaped walls, particularly for the wall sections perpendicular to the direction of loading. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20lag" title="shear lag">shear lag</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=walls" title=" walls"> walls</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=U-shaped" title=" U-shaped"> U-shaped</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=moment-curvature" title=" moment-curvature"> moment-curvature</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92183/effective-width-of-reinforced-concrete-u-shaped-walls-due-to-shear-lag-effects" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92183.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">211</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">736</span> A Case Study of Meningoencephalitis following Le Fort I Osteotomy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryan%20Goh">Ryan Goh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicholas%20Beech"> Nicholas Beech</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Le Fort I Osteotomies, although are common procedures in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, carry a degree of risk of unfavourable propagation of the down-fracture of the maxilla. This may be the first reported case in the literature for meningoencephalitis to occur following a Le Fort I Osteotomy. Case: A 32-year-old female was brought into the Emergency Department four days after a Le Fort I Osteotomy, with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 8 (E3V1M4). A Computed Tomography (CT) Head showed a skull base fracture at the right sphenoid sinus. Lumbar puncture was completed, and Klebsiella oxytoca was found in the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). She was treated with Meropenem, and rapidly improved thereafter. CSF rhinorrhoea was identified when she was extubated, which was successfully managed via a continuous lumbar drain. She was discharged on day 14 without any neurological deficits. Conclusion: The most likely aspect of the Le Fort I Osteotomy to obtain a skull base fracture is during the pterygomaxillary disjunction. Care should always be taken to avoid significant risks of skull base fractures, CSF rhinorrhoea, meningitis and encephalitis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
