It was borrowed<MH7592>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then the man<MH376> of God<MH430> said<MH559>, &#8220;Where<MH575> did it fall<MH5307>?&#8221; And when he showed<MH7200> him the place<MH4725>, he cut<MH7094> off<MH7094> a stick<MH6086> and threw<MH7993> <i>it</i> in there<MH8033>, and made the iron<MH1270> float<MH6687>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559>, &#8220;Pick<MH7311> it up<MH7311> for yourself.&#8221; So he reached<MH7971> out<MH7971> his hand<MH3027> and took<MH3947> it. <p class="hdg">The Arameans Plot to Capture Elisha</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now the king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> was making<MH3898a> war<MH3898a> against Israel<MH3478>; and he consulted<MH3289> with his servants<MH5650>, saying<MH559>, &#8220;In such<MH6423> and such<MH492> a place<MH4725> shall be my camp<MH8466>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>But the man<MH376> of God<MH430> sent<MH7971> <i>word</i> to the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>, saying<MH559>, &#8220;Be<MH8104> careful<MH8104> that you do not pass<MH5674a> this<MH2088> place<MH4725>, because<MH3588> the Arameans<MH758> are coming<MH5185> down<MH5185> there<MH8033>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> sent<MH7971> <i>scouts</i> to the place<MH4725> about which<MH834> the man<MH376> of God<MH430> had told<MH559> him; so he warned<MH2094b> him, so that he was on his guard<MH8104> there<MH8033>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>more than once<MH259> or twice<MH8147>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Now the heart<MH3820> of the king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> was enraged<MH5590> over<MH5921> this<MH2088> matter<MH1697>; and he called<MH7121> his servants<MH5650> and said<MH559> to them, &#8220;Will you not tell<MH5046> me which<MH4310> of us is for the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>One<MH259> of his servants<MH5650> said<MH559>, &#8220;No<MH3808>, my lord<MH113>, the king<MH4428>; but Elisha<MH477>, the prophet<MH5030> who<MH834> is in Israel<MH3478>, tells<MH5046> the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> the words<MH1697> that you speak<MH1696> in your bedroom<MH2315, 4904>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>So he said<MH559>, &#8220;Go<MH1980> and see<MH7200> where<MH351a> he is, so that I may send<MH7971> <i>men</i> and take<MH3947> him.&#8221; And it was told<MH5046> to him, saying<MH559>, &#8220;Behold<MH2009>, <i>he is</i> in Dothan<MH1886>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So he sent<MH7971> horses<MH5483b> and chariots<MH7393> and a substantial<MH3515> army<MH2428> there<MH8033>, and they came<MH935> by night<MH3915> and surrounded<MH5362b> the city<MH5892b>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Now when the attendant<MH8334> of the man<MH376> of God<MH430> had risen<MH6965> early<MH7925> and gone<MH3318> out<MH3318>, behold<MH2009>, an army<MH2428> with horses<MH5483b> and chariots<MH7393> was circling<MH5437> the city<MH5892b>. And his servant<MH5288> said<MH559> to him, &#8220;This<MH162> is<MH162> hopeless<MH162>, my master<MH113>! <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>What<MH351a> are we to do<MH6213a>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And he said<MH559>, &#8220;Do not be<MH3372a> afraid<MH3372a>, for those who<MH834> are with us are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>greater<MH7227a> than<MH4480> those who<MH834> are with them.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Then Elisha<MH477> prayed<MH6419> and said<MH559>, &#8220;LORD<MH3068>, please<MH4994>, open<MH6491b> his eyes<MH5869> so that he may see<MH7200>.&#8221; And the LORD<MH3068> opened<MH6491b> the servant&#8217;s<MH5288> eyes<MH5869>, and he saw<MH7200>; and behold<MH2009>, the mountain<MH2022> was full<MH4390> of horses<MH5483b> and chariots<MH7393> of fire<MH784> all<MH5439> around<MH5439> Elisha<MH477>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And when they came<MH3381> down<MH3381> to him, Elisha<MH477> prayed<MH6419> to the LORD<MH3068> and said<MH559>, &#8220;Please<MH4994> strike<MH5221> this<MH2088> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>people<MH1471> with blindness<MH5575>.&#8221; So He struck<MH5221> them with blindness<MH5575> in accordance with the word<MH1697> of Elisha<MH477>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then Elisha<MH477> said<MH559> to them, &#8220;This<MH2088> is not the way<MH1870>, nor<MH3808> is this<MH2090> the city<MH5892b>; follow<MH1980, 310> me and I will bring<MH1980> you to the man<MH376> whom<MH834> you seek<MH1245>.&#8221; And he brought<MH1980> them to Samaria<MH8111>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>When they had come<MH935> into Samaria<MH8111>, Elisha<MH477> said<MH559>, &#8220;LORD<MH3068>, open<MH6491b> the eyes<MH5869> of these<MH428> <i>men,</i> so that they may see<MH7200>.&#8221; So the LORD<MH3068> opened<MH6491b> their eyes<MH5869>, and they saw<MH7200>; and behold<MH2009>, <i>they were</i> in the midst<MH8432> of Samaria<MH8111>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> when he saw<MH7200> them, said<MH559> to Elisha<MH477>, &#8220;My father<MH1>, shall I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>kill<MH5221> them? Shall I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>kill<MH5221> them?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>answered<MH559>, &#8220;You shall not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>kill<MH5221> <i>them.</i> Would you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>kill<MH5221> those whom<MH834> you have taken<MH7617> captive<MH7617> with your sword<MH2719> and your bow<MH7198>? Set<MH7760> bread<MH3899> and water<MH4325> before<MH6440> them, so that they may eat<MH398> and drink<MH8354>, and go<MH1980> to their master<MH113>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>So he provided<MH3738b> a large<MH1419> feast<MH3740> for them; and when they had eaten<MH398> and drunk<MH8354>, he sent<MH7971> them away<MH7971>, and they went<MH1980> to their master<MH113>. And the marauding<MH1416> bands<MH1416> of Arameans<MH758> did not come<MH935> again<MH5750, 3254> into the land<MH776> of Israel<MH3478>. <p class="hdg">The Siege of Samaria&#8212;Cannibalism</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Now it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> after<MH310> this<MH3651>, that Ben-hadad<MH1130> the king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> gathered<MH6908> all<MH3605> his army<MH4264>, and went<MH5927> up<MH5927> and besieged<MH6696a, 5921> Samaria<MH8111>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>So there was a severe<MH1419> famine<MH7458> in Samaria<MH8111>; and behold<MH2009>, they kept besieging<MH6696a, 5921> it until<MH5704> a donkey&#8217;s<MH2543> head<MH7218> was <i>sold</i> for eighty<MH8084> <i>shekels</i> of silver<MH3701>, and a fourth<MH7255> of a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>kab<MH6894> of dove&#8217;s<MH3123> dung<MH1686> for five<MH2568> <i>shekels</i> of silver<MH3701>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And as the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> was passing<MH5674a> by<MH5674a> on the wall<MH2346>, a woman<MH802> cried<MH6817> out<MH6817> to him, saying<MH559>, &#8220;Help<MH3467>, my lord<MH113> the king<MH4428>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But he said<MH559>, &#8220;<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>If the LORD<MH3068> does not help<MH3467> you, from where<MH370> am I to help<MH3467> you? From the threshing<MH1637> floor<MH1637>, or<MH176> from the wine<MH3342> press<MH3342>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then the king<MH4428> said<MH559> to her, &#8220;What<MH4100> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>is on your mind?&#8221; And she said<MH559>, &#8220;This<MH2088> woman<MH802> said<MH559> to me, &#8216;Give<MH5414> your son<MH1121> so that we may eat<MH398> him today<MH3117>, and we will eat<MH398> my son<MH1121> tomorrow<MH4279>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>So we cooked<MH1310> my son<MH1121> and ate<MH398> him; and I said<MH559> to her on the next<MH312> day<MH3117>, &#8216;Give<MH5414> your son<MH1121>, so that we may eat<MH398> him&#8217;; but she has hidden<MH2244> her son<MH1121>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>When the king<MH4428> heard<MH8085> the woman&#8217;s<MH802> words<MH1697>, he tore<MH7167> his clothes<MH899b>&#8212;and he was passing<MH5674a> by<MH5674a> on the wall<MH2346>&#8212;and the people<MH5971a> looked<MH7200>, and behold<MH2009>, <i>he had</i> sackcloth<MH8242> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>underneath<MH1004> on his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>body<MH1320>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559>, &#8220;May God<MH430> do<MH6213a> so<MH3541> to me and more<MH3254> so<MH3541>, if<MH518> the head<MH7218> of Elisha<MH477> the son<MH1121> of Shaphat<MH8202> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>remains<MH5975> on him today<MH3117>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/6-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Now Elisha<MH477> was sitting<MH3427> in his house<MH1004>, and the elders<MH2205> were sitting<MH3427> with him. And <i>the king</i> sent<MH7971> a man<MH376> from his presence<MH6440>; but before<MH2962> the messenger<MH4397> came<MH935> to him, he said<MH559> to the elders<MH2205>, &#8220;Do you see<MH7200> how<MH3588> this<MH2088> son<MH1121> of a murderer<MH7523> has sent<MH7971> <i>a man</i> to cut<MH5493> off<MH5493> my head<MH7218>? Look<MH7200>, when the messenger<MH4397> comes<MH935>, shut<MH5462> the door<MH1817> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>hold<MH3905> the door<MH1817> shut<MH3905> against him.
