A reed<MG2563> shaken<MG4531> by the wind<MG417>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>But what<MG5101> did you go<MG1831> out<MG1831> to see<MG3708>? A man<MG444> dressed<MG294> in soft<MG3120> <i>clothing?</i> Those<MG3588> who wear<MG5409> soft<MG3120> <i>clothing</i> are in kings’<MG935> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>palaces<MG3624>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>But what<MG5101> did you go<MG1831> out<MG1831> to see<MG3708>? A prophet<MG4396>? Yes<MG3483a>, I tell<MG3004> you, and <i>one who is</i> more<MG4053> than a prophet<MG4396>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>This<MG3778> is the one about<MG4012> whom<MG3739> it <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>is written<MG1125>: <t><p class="indent1">‘BEHOLD<MG2400>, I AM SENDING<MG649> MY MESSENGER<MG32a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>AHEAD<MG4253> OF YOU, <t><p class="indent1">WHO<MG3739> WILL PREPARE<MG2680> YOUR WAY<MG3598> BEFORE<MG1715> YOU.’ <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, among<MG1722> those born<MG1084> of women<MG1135> there has not arisen<MG1453> <i>anyone</i> greater<MG3173> than John<MG2491> the Baptist<MG910>! Yet<MG1161> the one who is least<MG3398> in the kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> is greater<MG3173> than he. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And from the days<MG2250> of John<MG2491> the Baptist<MG910> until<MG2193> now<MG737> the kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> has been treated<MG971> violently<MG971>, and violent<MG973> men<MG973> take<MG726> it by<MG726> force<MG726>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>For all<MG3956> the Prophets<MG4396> and the Law<MG3551> prophesied<MG4395> until<MG2193> John<MG2491>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And if<MG1487> you are willing<MG2309> to accept<MG1209> <i>it, John</i> himself<MG846> is Elijah<MG2243> who <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>was to come<MG2064>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>The one who has<MG2192> ears<MG3775> to hear<MG191>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>let him hear<MG191>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“But to what<MG5101> shall I compare<MG3666> this<MG3778> generation<MG1074>? It is like<MG3664> children<MG3813> sitting<MG2521> in the marketplaces<MG58>, who<MG3739> call<MG4377> out<MG4377> to the other<MG2087> <i>children,</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>and say<MG3004>, ‘We played<MG832> the<MG832> flute<MG832> for you, and you did not dance<MG3738>; we sang<MG2354> a<MG2354> song<MG2354> of<MG2354> mourning<MG2354>, and you did not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>mourn<MG2875>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>For John<MG2491> came<MG2064> neither<MG3383> eating<MG2068> nor<MG3383> drinking<MG4095>, and they say<MG3004>, ‘He has<MG2192> a demon<MG1140>!’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>The Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> came<MG2064> eating<MG2068> and drinking<MG4095>, and they say<MG3004>, ‘Behold<MG2400>, a gluttonous<MG5314> man<MG444> and a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>heavy<MG3630> drinker<MG3630>, a friend<MG5384> of tax<MG5057> collectors<MG5057> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>sinners<MG268>!’ And <i>yet</i> wisdom<MG4678> is vindicated<MG1344> by her deeds<MG2041>.” <p class="hdg">The Unrepenting Cities</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> He began<MG757> to reprimand<MG3679> the cities<MG4172> in which<MG3739> most<MG4183> of His <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>miracles<MG1411> were done<MG1096>, because<MG3754> they did not repent<MG3340>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>“Woe<MG3759> to you, Chorazin<MG5523>! Woe<MG3759> to you, Bethsaida<MG966>! For if<MG1487> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>miracles<MG1411> that occurred<MG1096> in you had occurred<MG1096> in Tyre<MG5184> and Sidon<MG4605>, they would have repented<MG3340> long<MG3819> ago<MG3819> in <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>sackcloth<MG4526> and ashes<MG4700>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Nevertheless<MG4133> I say<MG3004> to you, it will be more<MG414> tolerable<MG414> for Tyre<MG5184> and Sidon<MG4605> on <i>the</i> day<MG2250> of judgment<MG2920> than<MG2228> for you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/11-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And you, Capernaum<MG2746b>, will not be exalted<MG5312> to heaven<MG3772>, will you? You will be brought<MG2597> down<MG2597> to Hades<MG86>!
