The function of criticism and the role of the critics change from time to time. This study also explores Aristotle"s conception of tragedy as the perfect form of art. Aristotle"s Poetics (1961) offers an account of what he calls poetry, which is a synthesis of a poet, author, comedy, tragedy, lyric poetry, epic poetry and that they are all imitations but in different ways. It is through imitation that man acquires knowledge, and the end of knowledge is pleasure. Aristotle"s Poetics defines poetry from the point of view of aesthetics and poetry is primarily a structure. This insistence on structure is the central point of Aristotle"s Poetics. Plato, who was endowed with literary gifts, looked at all the problems with a lofty mind. and Muhammad Iqbal are brand names in the field of literature written in Urdu and Persian languages. Both have achieved a legendary status not only in the subcontinent but across the world. They made experiments in both form and content in poetry. They represent the best that has been written in these languages and have set a bench mark for the prospective poets for all times to come. They have many things in common between them which is validated by the fact that Iqbal dedicates a poem on Ghalib and he features in his famous poem Javid Nama too. For Ghalib creating poetry is like drawing the heart blood from the veins of speech and Iqbal shared this understanding with him. Ghalib believes in creating meaning out of nowhere which makes his poetry enriching. If Ghalib is a master in creating meaning, Iqbal not only adds meaning to things but he is a poet with a message also. His poetry has meaning as well as message. Both of them are rebels in terms of the style and themes. Emerson"s famous adage, "Who so would be a man must be a non-conformist" fits well to both the poets due to their originality and freshness. The present paper attempts to compare the two poets by critically analysing their biographies, their beliefs about poetry, the contribution that they made to both Urdu and Persian languages and above all the thematic concerns. A quick glance at the entire plot of the selected novel strengthens our belief that psychological sufferings or regeneration greatly affect the external life of an individual. For an in-depth analysis, Ghazali, the famous 11 th-century scholar of the Muslim world, and Freud, the genius of the 20th century, have provided the conceptual underpinnings. Methodology: For the thematic analysis of the selected novel, this study has adapted Attride-Stirling's (2001) model of the textual data analysis, which is divided into three stages i.e., data reduction, exploration, and data complication or interpretation. Ghazalain nafs e ammara, nafs e lawwamma, nafs e mutmainna and aql, and Freudian id, ego and superego have guided the coding and interpretation of the selected character. Main Findings: A close analysis of the selected character through the lens of these theorists exposes that sometimes nafs e ammara or id makes him fall into the abyss of evils or sometimes nafs e lawwama or superego cause a relentless internal conflict which has been intermediated by aq'l or ego. Applications of this study: This work, inside the parameter of the selected theories, offers an insight into the relevance of the psychological issues in the modern world, thus, establishing our belief in the similar workings of the human mind, regardless of the variances in time and space. Moreover, it has also revealed that the incorporation of Eastern and Western insights for studying the human mind has the potential of becoming an effective critical approach for psychological analysis in the realm of English literature.
