The LHC and its Injectors were stopped in December 2018, to maintain, consolidate and upgrade the different equipment of the accelerator chain. During the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2), major projects were implemented such as the LHC Injectors upgrade and the LHC Dipoles Diodes consolidation. The installation of some equipment of the HL-LHC project took also place. This paper presents the application to the LS2 of the processes and tools to managed CERN programmed stops: it covers the preparation, implementation and follow up phases, as well as the KPIs, the tools used to build a coherent schedule and to follow up and report the progress. The description of the methodology to create a linear schedule, as well the construction of automatised broken lines and progress curves are detailed. It also describes the organizational set-up for the coordination of the works, the main activities and the key milestones. The NA fire safety risk assessment highlighted an urgent need to align with modern fire safety standards and identified four areas of improvement for detection, sprinklers, dry risers and compartmentalization systems. In parallel, the risk assessment carried out by EN-AA to evaluate the reliability of the current access system showed that the personnel protection system protecting persons accessing the experimental areas needs to be strengthened. Therefore, a major review of the access concepts has to be conducted while keeping the flexibility and simplicity of use required for the specific needs of these areas. For all these reasons, the consolidation of the NA safety systems was made a priority for the NA-CONS project. Consequently, the NA-CONS Fire Safety and Access System work package includes several consolidation projects which are managed by EN-AA. It covers the renovation of the fire detection, protection and evacuation of the surface and underground, the underground sprinkler system, the gas detection systems and the access control systems. A huge number of activities have been performed; this paper reviews the process of the coordination of LS1 from the preparatory phase to the testing phase. The preparatory phase is a very important process: an accurate view of what is to be done, and what can be done is essential. But reality is always different, the differences between what was planned and what was done will be described.
