href="/acts/24-1.htm"><b>1</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> after<MG3326> five<MG4002> days<MG2250> the high<MG749> priest<MG749> Ananias<MG367> came<MG2597> down<MG2597> with some<MG5100> elders<MG4245> and an attorney<MG4489> <i>named</i> Tertullus<MG5061>, and they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>brought<MG1718> charges<MG1718> against<MG2596> Paul<MG3972> to the governor<MG2232>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>After <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Paul had been summoned<MG2564>, Tertullus<MG5061> began<MG757> accusing<MG2723> him, saying<MG3004> <i>to the governor,</i> <p class="paragraph"> “Since we have attained<MG5177> great<MG4183> peace<MG1515> through<MG1223> you, and since reforms<MG1357a> are being<MG1096> carried<MG1096> out<MG1096> for this<MG3778> nation<MG1484> by your foresight<MG4307>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>we acknowledge<MG588> <i>this</i> in every<MG3839> way<MG3839> and everywhere<MG3837>, most<MG2903> excellent<MG2903> Felix<MG5344>, with all<MG3956> thankfulness<MG2169>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>But, that I may not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>weary<MG1465> you further<MG1909, 4183>, I beg<MG3870> you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>to grant<MG191> us a brief<MG4935> hearing<MG191>, by your kindness<MG1932>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>For we have found<MG2147> this<MG3778> man<MG435> a public<MG3061> menace<MG3061> and one who stirs<MG2795> up<MG2795> dissensions<MG4714b> among all<MG3956> the Jews<MG2453> throughout<MG2596> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>the world<MG3625>, and a ringleader<MG4414> of the sect<MG139> of the Nazarenes<MG3480>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And he even<MG2532> tried<MG3985> to desecrate<MG953> the temple<MG2413>, so indeed<MG2532> we arrested<MG2902> him.<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>By interrogating<MG350> him yourself<MG846> concerning<MG4012> all<MG3956> these<MG3778> matters, you will be able<MG1410> to ascertain<MG1921> the things of which<MG3739> we are accusing<MG2723> him.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>The Jews<MG2453> also<MG2532> joined<MG4902a> in<MG4902a> the attack<MG4902a>, asserting<MG5335> that these<MG3778> things<MG3778> were so<MG3779>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And when the governor<MG2232> had nodded<MG3506> for him to speak<MG3004>, Paul<MG3972> responded<MG611>: <p class="paragraph"> “Knowing<MG1987> that for many<MG4183> years<MG2094> you have been<MG1510> a judge<MG2923> to this<MG3778> nation<MG1484>, I cheerfully<MG2115b> make<MG626> my defense<MG626>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>since you can<MG1410> take<MG1921> note<MG1921> of the<MG3754> fact<MG3754> that<MG3754> no<MG3756> more<MG4183> than twelve<MG1427> days<MG2250> ago<MG575> I went<MG305> up<MG305> to Jerusalem<MG2419> to worship<MG4352>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And neither<MG3777> in the temple<MG2413> did they find<MG2147> me carrying<MG1256> on<MG1256> a<MG1256> discussion<MG1256> with anyone<MG5100> or<MG2228> causing<MG4160> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>a riot<MG3793, 1988a>, nor<MG3777> in the synagogues<MG4864>, nor<MG3777> in the city<MG4172> <i>itself.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Nor<MG3761> can<MG1410> they prove<MG3936> to you <i>the things</i> of which<MG3739> they now<MG3570> accuse<MG2723> me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But I confess<MG3670> this<MG3778> to you, that in<MG2596> accordance<MG2596> with<MG2596> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>the Way<MG3598>, which<MG3739> they call<MG3004> a sect<MG139>, I do serve<MG3000> the God<MG2316> of our fathers<MG3971>, believing<MG4100> everything<MG3956> that is in<MG2596> accordance<MG2596> with<MG2596> the Law<MG3551> and is written<MG1125> in the Prophets<MG4396>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>having<MG2192> a hope<MG1680> in God<MG2316>, which<MG3739> these<MG3778> men<MG3778> cherish<MG4327> themselves<MG846>, that there shall certainly<MG3195> be a resurrection<MG386> of both<MG5037> the righteous<MG1342> and the wicked<MG94>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>In view<MG1722> of this<MG3778> I also<MG2532> do<MG778> my best<MG778> to maintain<MG2192> a blameless<MG677> conscience<MG4893> <i>both</i> before<MG4314> God<MG2316> and before <i>other</i> people<MG444>, always<MG1223, 3956>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> after<MG1223> several<MG4183> years<MG2094> I came<MG3854> to bring<MG4160> charitable<MG1654> gifts<MG1654> to my nation<MG1484> and to present<MG4160> offerings<MG4376>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>in which<MG3739> they found<MG2147> me <i>occupied</i> in the temple<MG2413>, having been purified<MG48>, without<MG3326, 3756> <i>any</i> crowd<MG3793> or<MG3761> uproar<MG2351>. But <i>there were</i> some<MG5100> Jews<MG2453> from <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Asia<MG773>— <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>who<MG3739> ought<MG1163> to have been<MG3918b> present<MG3918b> before<MG1909> you and to have been bringing<MG2723> charges<MG2723>, if<MG1487> they should have<MG2192> anything<MG5100> against<MG4314> me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Or<MG2228> <i>else</i> have these<MG3778> men<MG3778> themselves<MG846> declare<MG3004> what<MG5101> violation<MG92> they discovered<MG2147> when I stood<MG2476> before<MG1909> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>Council<MG4892>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>other<MG2228> than<MG2228> in<MG4012> regard<MG4012> to<MG4012> this<MG3778> one<MG1520> declaration<MG5456> which<MG3739> I shouted<MG2896> while standing<MG2476> among<MG1722> them, ‘For the resurrection<MG386> of the dead<MG3498> I am on<MG2919> trial<MG2919> before<MG1909> you today<MG4594>!’” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But Felix<MG5344>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>having<MG3609a> quite<MG199> accurate<MG199> knowledge<MG3609a> about<MG4012> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>the Way<MG3598>, adjourned<MG306> them, saying<MG3004>, “When<MG3752> Lysias<MG3079> the commander<MG5506> comes<MG2597> down<MG2597>, I will decide<MG1231> your case<MG3588, 2596>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>He gave<MG1299> orders<MG1299> to the centurion<MG1543> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Paul to be kept<MG5083> in<MG5083> custody<MG5083> and <i>yet</i> have<MG2192> <i>some</i> freedom<MG425>, and not to prevent<MG2967> any<MG3367> of his friends<MG2398> from providing<MG5256> for<MG5256> his needs<MG5256>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> some<MG5100> days<MG2250> later<MG3326> Felix<MG5344> arrived<MG3854> with Drusilla<MG1409> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>wife<MG1135>, who was Jewish<MG2453>, and he sent<MG3343> for Paul<MG3972> and heard<MG191> him <i>speak</i> about<MG4012> faith<MG4102> in Christ<MG5547> Jesus<MG2424>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But as he was discussing<MG1256> righteousness<MG1343>, self-control<MG1466>, and the judgment<MG2917> to<MG3195> come<MG3195>, Felix<MG5344> became<MG1096> frightened<MG1719> and responded<MG611>, “Go<MG4198> away<MG4198> for now<MG3568, 2192>, and when I have<MG3335> an opportunity<MG2540>, I will summon<MG3333> you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>At the same<MG260> time<MG260> he was also<MG2532> hoping<MG1679> that money<MG5536> would be given<MG1325> to him by Paul<MG3972>; therefore<MG1352> he also<MG2532> used to send<MG3343> for him quite<MG4437> often<MG4437> and talk<MG3656> with him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/24-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But after two<MG1333> years<MG1333> had passed<MG4137>, Felix<MG5344> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>was succeeded<MG1240> by Porcius<MG4201> Festus<MG5347>;
