Slowness and a reluctance to act by journals are identified as key issues, especially in the light of increased action by paper mills and the rise of generative AI, both of which produce problems at speed and scale. Some of the language used in industry best practices can also seem very punitive (for example, ‘Expressions of Concern’), while concerns raised have themselves become more complex in their origins and timing.</p> <h2>Suggested changes</h2> <p>When asked what changes they would like to see, the panellists raise a number of suggestions. These include enlarging the taxonomy of correction notes and comments, and making it easier for readers to raise concerns. Mandating pre-registration of studies could also be helpful in establishing whether research takes place on a trustworthy time-scale. Open research and greater transparency in peer review are all worthy aims, but there is also a need to address the root causes of some of the problems like paper mills. The panellists would also like to see more diversity in editorial boards and greater education more generally on post publication corrections and concerns.</p> <h3>Further reading</h3> <ul> <li> <p><a
