La nuova concezione della storia, alla quale si attribuiscono precise valenze ideologiche, testimonia, anche in sede locale, l'importante contributo del mondo culturale alla causa nazionale 1. Gli studi sistematici sul rapporto tra la definizione di un modello ideologico e la storio-grafia, hanno preso l'avvio dal centenario della istituzione della Società Storica Parmense 2 e sono proseguiti approfondendo l'influenza esercitata sulla definizione di criteri selettivi nell'intervento sul patrimonio artistico databile, in sede locale, al catalogo della mostra or-ganizzata a conclusione dell'ultima campagna di restauri al palazzo Gotico (23 dicembre 1984-3 marzo 1985) 3. L'interdipendenza che si istituisce tra modello storiografico e criterio di selezione del patrimonio architettonico, in quanto "l'architettura più di ogni altra arte è significativa della vita pubblica" 4 , è evidente nell'attenzione rivolta agli esempi considerati maggiormen-te significativi della produzione appartenente al medioevo, riconosciuto come espressione delle passioni municipali, alla luce delle posizioni neoguelfe e neoghibelline. Ci si erano provati in tanti, a quanto s'è capito, da un secolo e passa: ora finalmente sappiamo dove quelle vicende fondamentali per l'apicoltura moderna hanno avuto luogo. Non ci pare poco. Crediamo sia giunto il momento di onorare Hruška in maniera più formale: da un po' si pensa di intitolargli un qualche spazio pubblico dolese. Che si riesca a farlo in tempi ragionevoli? Registriamo che la richiesta è condivisa: quando ne parli a qualcuno è subito d'accordo. Più in generale, ci sembra che sia stato molto trascurato lo studio di Dolo e della Brenta nell'Ottocento, periodo in cui fu davvero un luogo vivace, autonomo, produttivo, con molte personalità di rilievo europeo. Se la manifestazione Volterra ’73 è nota nella storia dell’arte come uno dei tentativi più riusciti di decentramento culturale e progettazione “dal basso”, meno indagata è invece l’iniziativa parallela che coinvolgeva due gruppi di designer impegnati nella rivitalizzazione di un settore economico, quello dell’alabastro, essenziale alla cittadina toscana e al tessuto sociale ad esso connesso. Per restituire a questo episodio un posto nella storia del design sono stati consultati ed esaminati documenti originali dall’archivio di Gabriele Devecchi e di Lorenzo Forges Davanzati e raccolte testimonianze dirette dei protagonisti resisi disponibili (Davide Boriani, Carlo Bimbi e Corinna Morandi) i quali hanno riportato versioni dei fatti convergenti e contrastanti allo stesso tempo, mettendo in luce la necessità di svolgere un’interpretazione critica dei materiali succitati. The present contribution aims at reviewing a less known episode in history of design by investigating the primary sources available. The cultural initiative Volterra ’73 is acknowledged in the history of art as a one of the most succesfull attempts to the cultural decentralisation and bottom up processes. Less investigated is instead the parallel involvement of two designers’ groups challenging the rigeneration of the alabaster economic sector, essential to the tuscan town and its social fabric. In order to give back this episode to history of design we examined some original documents from the Archivio Gabriele Devecchi and the non-offical archive of Lorenzo Forges Davanzati, and collected some oral testimonies from the available protagonists (Davide Boriani, Carlo Bimbi and Corinna Morandi), who told sometimes converging and some others diverging stories. In ciascun pensatore l’idea di un’evoluzione delle specie viventi è stata accompagnata da una teoria volta a spiegare le cause e il meccanismo del mutamento. Questo saggio racconta non soltanto la genesi e lo sviluppo dell’idea tout court che la natura in qualche modo si trasformi, ma anche la storia delle teorie che, assumendo come reale questa trasformazione, ne postulano una spiegazione. Particolare attenzione viene data ad alcuni aspetti spesso trascurati che hanno reso possibile il concetto di evoluzione del mondo vivente come la conosciamo adesso, di cui se ne mostra la rilevanza, già a partire dal pensiero greco. ABSTRACT (ENG) An idea emerges, develops, gains consensus, evolves, sometimes disappears and then rises again. This was also the fate of the idea of evolution, whose long journey is reconstructed in this essay, from the Greeks to the present day. Since the seventeenth century, this idea has become more and more relevant in the study of nature. In each thinker the idea of an evolution of living species has been accompanied by a theory aimed at explaining the causes and the mechanism of change. This essay tells not only the genesis and development of the idea that nature somehow transforms itself, but also the history of the theories which, assuming this transformation as real, postulate an explanation. Particular emphasis is given to some often overlooked aspects that made possible the concept of evolution of the living world as we know it now, whose full relevance is shown, starting from Greek thought. The city administration, in co-operation with the conservation authority, started a programme in 2006 for the integrated restoration of more than 200 interiors in the Palace of Podestŕ and it gave the university the task of organising a project to acquire information on these buildings and help identify potential new uses. The paper presents a summary of the studies on the palace, surveys, diagnostic investigations and historical and archive research started more than a decade ago by the late Arturo Sandrini, designed to document and restore this complex which is a true and genuine repository of historical and archaeological information in the heart of the city. Behind the veil of the façades, recomposed after 1461 by Giovan Antonio d&amp;#39;Arezzo and repaired during restoration work in the last century, lies a dense stratification of continuous modifications, at times stately and at times humble, a background against which the still valuable mediaeval fragments stand out. The Palace of the Podesta of Mantua, Marco Cofani, Verena Fignani, Angelo Landi, Davidel del Curto, Luca Valisi, Juri Badalini, Tomaso Cavalli (p. 56) The ancient municipal palaces of mediaeval origin define the structure and image of the city centre of Mantua where they deserve better treatment after being progressively abandoned during the course of the 20th Century. The city administration, in co-operation with the conservation authority, started a programme in 2006 for the integrated restoration of more than 200 interiors in the Palace of Podestà and it gave the university the task of organising a project to acquire information on these buildings and help identify potential new uses. The paper presents a summary of the studies on the palace, surveys, diagnostic investigations and historical and archive research started more than a decade ago by the late Arturo Sandrini, designed to document and restore this complex which is a true and genuine repository of historical and archaeological information in the heart of the city. Behind the veil of the façades, recomposed after 1461 by Giovan Antonio d’Arezzo and repaired during restoration work in the last century, lies a dense stratification of continuous modifications, at times stately and at times humble, a background against which the still valuable mediaeval fragments stand out.
