class="wysiwyg_area"> <div class="articleBodyText"> <p>BEIJING -- Having pulled off a carefully staged Victory Day celebration, China is likely to turn its attention to relations with other big economies and efforts to steady its own.</p><p>     The biggest item on President Xi Jinping's diplomatic agenda in the coming weeks is a visit to the U.S. later this month. The two powers disagree on various issues, including China's island-building in the sea to its south. But "the Chinese side does not want relations to get any worse," said Shi Yinhong, a professor at Renmin University of China.</p><p>     Also on Xi's schedule is a chance to mend fences with Japan, which he avoided criticizing by name in his Victory Day speech Thursday. Xi and South Korean President Park Geun-hye agreed Wednesday to seek a three-way summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as early as next month. That would mark the first meeting of leaders of the three East Asian neighbors in about three and a half years. Xi may take the opportunity to hold his third one-on-one summit with Abe.</p><p>     On the economic front, October's plenary session of the Communist Party's Central Committee will flesh out the country's next five-year plan, which will guide economic policymaking from 2016 onward. The Chinese economy has been buffeted by falling stock prices and other short-term market movements.
