And Shaul said to the Priest: “Take away your hand!” <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>And Shaul cried out and all the people that were with him, and they came unto the battle, and behold, the sword of a man was there against his fellow man, a very great confusion <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>The Hebrews and Philistines, as in former times, also came up with them to the encampment, and they came around also to be with the sons of Israel and with Shaul and Yonathan <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>And all the men of Israel who hid in the mountain of Aphreim heard that the Philistines had fled from before the sons of Israel, and they armed themselves also after them for battle <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>And LORD JEHOVAH saved Israel in that day and he did battle for them in Bayth Awan for the men of Israel<p> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>And Shaul came near on that day and said to the people: “Cursed is the man who will eat food until evening until I am avenged of my enemies!”; and they tasted no bread <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>And they went into all the land and they entered into a forest, and behold, there was honey in the forest on the face of the ground <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>And the people entered into the forest, and the honey flowed, and there was no one who reached his hand to his mouth, because the people were afraid of the oath <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>And Yonathan had not heard when his father made the people swear, and he reached with the top of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it into the comb of the honey, and he put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes shone <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>And a man of the people answered and said to Jonathan: “Your father made the people swear and said, “Cursed is the man who will eat food today!”, and the people were exhausted <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>And Jonathan said: “My father troubles the land. See that my eyes brighten, for I tasted a little of this honey! <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>Also, because the people today have not eaten of the spoil of its enemies that it has found, because of that there was not a great slaughter against the Philistines!<p> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>And we destroyed today among the Philistines from Mekmas Ailun, and the people are very exhausted!” <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>And the people seized greedily on the loot, and they drove sheep and bulls and calves and they killed on the ground and the people ate with the blood <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>And they told Shaul and they said to him: “Behold the people have sinned against LORD JEHOVAH and eat with blood!” And Shaul said: “Bring, cut for me today a great stone!” <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>And Shaul said: “Go around among the people and say to them: “‘Bring each man his ox and each man his Servant and slaughter here, and do not sin against LORD JEHOVAH and eat with blood!” And all the people brought, each man his ox with his hand in the night, and they slaughtered there <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>And Shaul built there an altar to LORD JEHOVAH, and he began to build the altar to LORD JEHOVAH<p> <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-36.htm#aramaic"><b>36</b></a></span>And Shaul said: “We will go down after the Philistines and we shall plunder among them until dawn will shine, and we will not leave a man of them!” And they said: “All that is excellent in your eyes we shall do!”<p> <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-37.htm#aramaic"><b>37</b></a></span>And Shaul said to God: “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hands of Israel?” And LORD JEHOVAH did not answer him on that day <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-38.htm#aramaic"><b>38</b></a></span>And Shaul said: “Bring to me here all the tribes of the people, and know and see in what was this sin today <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-39.htm#aramaic"><b>39</b></a></span>Because LORD JEHOVAH lives who has saved Israel, that if it is in Jonathan my son, certainly he shall die!” And there was no one who answered him of all the people <A name="41"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-40.htm#aramaic"><b>40</b></a></span>And he said to all Israel: “You are on one side and I and Yonathan my son, we will be on one side.”And the people said to Shaul: “All that is good to do in your eyes, do!” <A name="42"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-41.htm#aramaic"><b>41</b></a></span>And Shaul said: “LORD JEHOVAH, God of Israel, give unanimous agreement.” And Shaul and Yonathan were taken, and the people went out <A name="43"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-42.htm#aramaic"><b>42</b></a></span>And Shaul said: “Cast between me and Jonathan my son.” And Jonathan was taken<p> <A name="44"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-43.htm#aramaic"><b>43</b></a></span>And Shaul said to Jonathan: “Tell me what you have done!” And Jonathan told him and said to him: “With the top of the staff that was in my hand I tasted a little honey, because I was dying!” <A name="45"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-44.htm#aramaic"><b>44</b></a></span>And Shaul said: “So may God do to me and so may he add to me, for you will surely die, Jonathan!” <A name="46"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/14-45.htm#aramaic"><b>45</b></a></span>And the people said to Shaul: “Should Jonathan die, who worked salvation for Israel?
