From the analysis, it is proposed that the wake layer in outer region may be divided into two regions, the relatively weak outer region and the relatively strong outer region. Combining the log law for inner region and the parabolic law for relatively strong outer region, an explicit equation for mean velocity distribution of steady and uniform turbulent flow through straight open channels is proposed and verified with the experimental data. It is found that the sediment concentration has significant effect on velocity distribution in the relatively weak outer region.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Inner%20and%20outer%20region" title="Inner and outer region">Inner and outer region</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Log%20law" title=" Log law"> Log law</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Parabolic%20law" title=" Parabolic law"> Parabolic law</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Richardson%20number." title=" Richardson number."> Richardson number.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/velocity-distribution-in-open-channels-combination-of-log-law-and-parabolic-law" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10537.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">6088</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> The Effect of Directional Search Using Iterated Functional System for Matching Range and Domain Blocks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Shimal%20Das">Shimal Das</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Dibyendu%20Ghoshal"> Dibyendu Ghoshal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The effect of directional search using iterated functional system has been studied on four images taken from databases. CRPSO, the much improved version of PSO, is a population based global heuristic search algorithm which finds near optimal solution in terms of a set of filter coefficients. Effectiveness of this algorithm is justified with a comparative study of some well established algorithms, namely, real coded genetic algorithm (RGA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). Simulation results affirm that the proposed algorithm CRPSO, outperforms over its counterparts not only in terms of quality output i.e. sharpness at cut-off, pass band ripple, stop band ripple, and stop band attenuation but also in convergence speed with assured stability.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=IIR%20Filter" title="IIR Filter">IIR Filter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=RGA" title=" RGA"> RGA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=PSO" title=" PSO"> PSO</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=CRPSO" title=" CRPSO"> CRPSO</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Evolutionary%20Optimization%20Techniques" title=" Evolutionary Optimization Techniques"> Evolutionary Optimization Techniques</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Low%20Pass%20%28LP%29%20Filter" title=" Low Pass (LP) Filter"> Low Pass (LP) Filter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Magnitude%0D%0AResponse" title=" Magnitude Response"> Magnitude Response</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Pole-Zero%20Plot" title=" Pole-Zero Plot"> Pole-Zero Plot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Stability." title=" Stability."> Stability.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/iir-filter-design-with-craziness-based-particle-swarm-optimization-technique" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/504.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">2576</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Colour Image Compression Method Based On Fractal Block Coding Technique</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Dibyendu%20Ghoshal">Dibyendu Ghoshal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Shimal%20Das"> Shimal Das</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p>Image compression based on fractal coding is a lossy compression method and normally used for gray level images range and domain blocks in rectangular shape. The method is best suited for irregular shape of image like snow bobs, clouds, flame of fire; tree leaves images, depending on the fact that parts of an image often resemble with other parts of the same image. This technique has drawn much attention in recent years because of very high compression ratio that can be achieved. Hybrid scheme incorporating fractal compression and speedup techniques have achieved high compression ratio compared to pure fractal compression. Fractal image compression is a lossy compression method in which selfsimilarity nature of an image is used. This technique provides high compression ratio, less encoding time and fart decoding process. In this paper, fractal compression with quad tree and DCT is proposed to compress the color image. The proposed hybrid schemes require four phases to compress the color image. First: the image is segmented and Discrete Cosine Transform is applied to each block of the segmented image. Second: the block values are scanned in a zigzag manner to prevent zero co-efficient. Third: the resulting image is partitioned as fractals by quadtree approach. Fourth: the image is compressed using Run length encoding technique.</p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Fractal%20coding" title="Fractal coding">Fractal coding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Discrete%20Cosine%20Transform" title=" Discrete Cosine Transform"> Discrete Cosine Transform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Iterated%0D%0AFunction%20System%20%28IFS%29" title=" Iterated Function System (IFS)"> Iterated Function System (IFS)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Affine%20Transformation" title=" Affine Transformation"> Affine Transformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Run%20length%20encoding." title=" Run length encoding."> Run length encoding.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/a-proposed-hybrid-color-image-compression-based-on-fractal-coding-with-quadtree-and-discrete-cosine-transform" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/apa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">APA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/bibtex" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">BibTeX</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/chicago" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Chicago</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/endnote" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">EndNote</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/harvard" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Harvard</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/json" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">JSON</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/mla" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">MLA</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/ris" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">RIS</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/xml" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">XML</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345/iso690" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">ISO 690</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/10003345.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">1571</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card publication-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Swarm Intelligence based Optimal Linear Phase FIR High Pass Filter Design using Particle Swarm Optimization with Constriction Factor and Inertia Weight Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Sangeeta%20Mandal">Sangeeta Mandal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Rajib%20Kar"> Rajib Kar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Durbadal%20Mandal"> Durbadal Mandal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/search?q=Sakti%20Prasad%20Ghoshal"> Sakti Prasad Ghoshal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, an optimal design of linear phase digital high pass finite impulse response (FIR) filter using Particle Swarm Optimization with Constriction Factor and Inertia Weight Approach (PSO-CFIWA) has been presented. The conventional gradient based optimization techniques are not efficient for digital filter design. Given the filter specifications to be realized, the PSO-CFIWA algorithm generates a set of optimal filter coefficients and tries to meet the ideal frequency response characteristic. In this paper, for the given problem, the designs of the optimal FIR high pass filters of different orders have been performed. The simulation results have been compared to those obtained by the well accepted algorithms such as Parks and McClellan algorithm (PM), genetic algorithm (GA).
