This period marks the return of the Jewish people to their homeland and the restoration of Jerusalem as a central place of worship and governance. The repopulation is primarily documented in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah, which detail the efforts to rebuild the city and reestablish the community according to the laws of God.<br><br><b>Historical Context</b><br><br>The Babylonian exile, which began in 586 BC with the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple by Nebuchadnezzar II, led to the deportation of many Jews to Babylon.
