<p>Sudan formed a National Olympic Committee on 16 August 1956, which was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 25 May 1959, at the IOC Session in München. Since making its Olympic début in 1960, Sudan has missed only the Olympic Games of 1964, 1976, and 1980. It has never competed at the Olympic Winter Games.</p> <p>The country won its first and Olympic medal (through 2022) at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when runner <a href="/athletes/106612">Ismail Ahmed Ismail</a> placed second in the <a href="/results/257197">men’s 800 metres</a>. Their first female athlete appeared only in 2000, runner <a href="/athletes/88978">Awmima Mohamed</a> in the 400 metres. The country’s best female performance happened in 2004, when <a href="/athletes/83466">Yamilé Aldama</a> finished 5th in the final of the triple jump contest.</p> </div> <h2>Participations by
