<A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And how do we hear, each in our own language in which we were born; <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judaea, and also Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Lybia about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Cretans, and Arabians?we hear them speaking in our own languages the wonderful works of God?" <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And they were all amazed, and perplexed, saying one to another, "What does this mean?" <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And others, mocking, said, "They have been filled with new wine!"<p> <A name="15"></a><p class="hdg">Peter Addresses the Crowd<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and declared to them, "Men of Judaea, and all those dwelling in Jerusalem, be this known to you, and give ear to my words; <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, for it is <i>the</i> third hour of the day; <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>but this is that which was spoken through the prophet Joel:<p> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>'And it shall be in the last days', saith God, 'I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;<p> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>yea, and on My servants and on My handmaidens in those days will I pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy.<p> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And I will show wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath?blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.<p> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of <i>the</i> Lord come.<p> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And it shall be, that every one who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'<p> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>"Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus, the Nazarene, a man accredited from God to you by miracles, and wonders, and signs, which God did through Him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know; <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>This Man, delivered up by the settled counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye, having fastened to the cross, through <i>the</i> hand of lawless ones, did slay: <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death; because it was not possible that He should be held by it.<p> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>For David says concerning Him, 'I beheld the Lord in my presence continually; because He is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.<p> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Therefore, my heart was glad, and my tongue greatly rejoiced; moreover my flesh also shall abide in hope:<p> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>because Thou wilt not leave My soul behind unto Hades; neither wilt Thou give Thy Holy One to see corruption.<p> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Thou didst make known to Me <i>the</i> ways of life; Thou wilt make Me full of gladness with Thy presence.'<p> <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>"Brethren! It is permitted to speak to you freely concerning the patriarch David, that he both died, and was buried; and his tomb is among us till this day; <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>being, therefore, a prophet, and knowing that with an oath God swore to him, that out of the fruit of his loins <i>One</i> should sit on his throne; <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>he, foreseeing <i>it</i>, spake concerning the resurrection of Christ, that neither was He left behind unto Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>"This Jesus God raised up; of which <i>fact</i> we all are witnesses. <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Being, therefore, exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He was pouring forth this which ye both see and hear.<p> <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>For David did not ascend into Heaven; but he himself says, 'The Lord said to my Lord, sit at My right hand,<p> <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>till I make Thy foes a footstool for Thy feet.' <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>"Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God made Him both Lord and Christ?This Jesus Whom ye crucified."<p> <A name="38"></a><p class="hdg">Three Thousand Believe<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And, hearing this, they were pricked in the heart, and said to Peter, and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren! what shall we do?" <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be immersed each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, unto remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit; <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>for the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all those afar off?as many as <i>the</i> Lord our God shall call to <i>Him</i>." <A name="41"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>Also with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!" <A name="42"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>Those, therefore, who gladly received his word, were immersed; and there were added <i>to them</i> on that day about three thousand souls;<p> <A name="43"></a><p class="hdg">The Fellowship of Believers<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../acts/4.htm#32">Acts 4:32–37</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>and they were constantly attending the teaching of the apostles and the fellowship, and the breaking of bread, and the prayers.<p> <A name="44"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>And fear was coming upon every soul; and many wonders and signs were coming to pass through the apostles. <A name="45"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>And all who believed <i>were</i> together, <i>and</i> were holding all things common; <A name="46"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>and they were selling their possessions and goods, and were distributing them to all, according as any one had need. <A name="47"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at <i>their</i> homes, were partaking of food in gladness and singleness of heart; <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/2-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>praising God, and having favor with all the people.
