provides information for EGU members interested in submitting a training school support request. </p> <div class="headline"> <h2>Requirements and benefits</h2> </div> <ul> <li>The event must be scientific and have a well-defined topic, commensurate with the stated aims of the EGU meetings programme within which it is to take place.</li> <li>The event must have an organising/scientific committee of international composition and stature. This committee must cover all aspects of the event topic in expert fashion and demonstrate diversity in gender, career stage, and geographic affiliation.</li> <li>The event should have broad, international participation, not favouring delegates from any particular country.</li> <li>The organising/scientific committee is responsible for the implementation of the scientific programme of the event.</li> <li>The event must be organised on a cost-price basis, participation fees and external sponsorship covering the budget in its entirety.</li> <li>Selected proposals are expected to acknowledge EGU support on the event website and through event communications. <li>The event should not be held during the EGU General Assembly.</li> <li>The applicant must be an EGU member, neither incoming nor actively holding a role within EGU Council at the time of the application.</li> <li>While applications are open to any EGU members worldwide, some differences pertaining to the amount of support might apply. Depending on the type of application, EGU may have to pay a VAT (value-added tax) of 19% on the granted support to the German tax authorities. <ul> <li>A full support would be provided to applicants who are part of an EU-registered structure: non-profit organisation, public institution, or a contracted company (agreement between this entity and EGU). Supports provided to one of the above entities are not subject to VAT.</li> <li>A support reduced from the VAT would be provided to organisers who are individuals (agreement between the individual and EGU) or to any structures and individuals outside the EU (agreement between the individual/non-registered EU structure and EGU).</li> <li>We therefore encourage applicants to be backed up by an EU-based structure (non-profit organisation, public institution or contracted company) who will handle the financial support on their behalf, whenever possible. This allows the applicant to take advantage of the full extent of the support available through EGU.</li> </ul> </li> <li>EGU is committed to the development of the next generation of Earth, space, and planetary scientists. For this reason, proposals selected by the EGU are offered financial support of up to EUR 6000, with the primary focus of facilitating participation of Early Career Scientists. 60% of the support is paid upfront while the remaining 40% is provided upon event completion and reporting.</li> <li>Selected applicants are encouraged to use EGU support as a basis towards the pursuit of further funding sources, where applicable.</li> <li>Upon acceptance of EGU support, the organisers must return a signed contract. Following the event, a report of activities and expenditure statement must be provided to the EGU Topical Events Committee. An invoice should be made out to EGU within one month of event completion.</li> </ul> <div class="headline"> <h2>Submit a new support request</h2> </div> <p> Proposals for EGU sponsorship of events can be submitted only during the official submission periods. All proposals will be considered for approval by the Topical Events Committee. Decisions for or against support are based on scientific merit, timeliness, relevance and feasibility of the proposal, and cannot be disputed by the applicant(s). </p> <div class="please-note"> <p>Support request submissions are <strong>currently closed</strong>.</p> <p>Submission periods are usually in the spring of each year.
