On one hand, edge computing helps cloud to extend its services to the edge of the network, which improves the response time and user experience. On the other hand, the developing of Internet of Things (IoT) leads to huge amount of data generated on the user side and there are also a lot of smart devices available, it is a natural way to process data on the edge. In a word, edge computing paradigm greatly saves the bandwidth of the backbone network and improves the end-to-end latency. It brings new possibilities for complex applications, intelligent services, novel security and privacy solutions, especially for the researches which depend on the huge amount of data.

However, to embrace the promising Edge Computing, there are many challenges in enabling technologies, such as design, implementation, and deploy aspects, as well as useful applications and services. Specifically, the challenges include infrastructure and network support, cooperation/interaction with cloud, computation and communication trade-off, operating system for managing heterogeneous resources and workloads, system deploy and application design, programming paradigms, security and privacy, and so on. The aims of this Special Section are to present the state-of-the-art research in the area of Edge computing and services and to provide a forum for experts to disseminate their recent advanced works, views and ideas on future directions in this field.

Topics of Interest

The topics relevant to this special issue include but are not limited to:
• Cloud computing system and network design
• Architecture of Edge Computing systems
• Cloud-Edge operating system design
• Services and applications of Edge Computing
• Communication and Network in Edge Computing
• Scheduling and Migration in Edge Computing
• Security and Privacy in Edge Computing Systems
• Sustainable and Green Edge Computing
• Availability and Reliability in Edge Computing Systems
• Programming Paradigms for Edge Computing
• Quality of Service in Edge Computing
• Pricing and Billing in Edge Computing
• Intelligent and Adaptive Techniques in Edge Computing
• Edge Analytics
• AI at the Edge
• Swarm intelligence in Edge Computing
• Benchmarks and simulation system for Edge Computing

Papers must be tailored to the problems of edge computing technologies, applications and services. The editors maintain the right to reject papers they deem to be out of scope of this special issue. Only originally unpublished contributions and invited articles will be considered for the issue. The papers should be formatted according to the ComSIS Journal guidelines. Authors should submit a PDF version of their complete manuscript via System (https://ojs.pmf.uns.ac.rs/index.php/comsis) according to the timetable below.

Important Dates

<strike>December 1, 2019</strike> March 1, 2020: Submission deadline
<strike>February 15</strike> May 15, 2020: Author Notification
<strike>March 25</strike> June 25, 2020: Final Manuscript
<strike>May</strike> October, 2020: Publication

For more information about this special issue please contact Prof. Honghao Gao: gaohonghao@shu.edu.cn

Guest Editors

Prof. Honghao Gao
Shanghai University, China/Central Michigan University, USA

Prof. Wenbing Zhao
Cleveland State University, Ohio, USA

Prof. Xinheng Wang
University of West London, London, UK

Prof. Yuyu Yin
Hangzhou Dianzi University, China

Faculty of Sciences, Trg Dositeja Obradovića 3, 21000 Novi Sad, Serbia, comsis@uns.ac.rs

Published by ComSIS Consortium under
Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License
