Jeremiah, a major prophet, often received messages from God to deliver to the people of Judah. This underscores the role of prophets as intermediaries between God and His people. The phrase "the word of the LORD" emphasizes the authority and divine origin of the message, distinguishing it from human opinion or speculation. In the context of Jeremiah's ministry, this communication often involved warnings of judgment and promises of restoration. In substance it repeats the promise of <a href="/context/jeremiah/33-17.htm" title="For thus said the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;">Jeremiah 33:17-18</a>, but it reproduces them with yet greater solemnity. The covenant of Jehovah with David and with the Levites the priests is placed on the same level of permanence as the ordered succession of day and night. If the old order ultimately gave way to the new, it was only because the new was the transfigured and glorified reproduction of the old. Whatever may have been the thoughts of the prophet, we are authorised in looking for the seed of David and of the Levites in those who, by virtue of their union with Christ, are made both kings and priests unto the Father (<a href="/revelation/1-6.htm" title="And has made us kings and priests to God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.">Revelation 1:6</a>). Just as the promise to the seed of Abraham is fulfilled in those who are spiritually the children of the faith of Abraham (<a href="/context/romans/9-7.htm" title="Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall your seed be called.">Romans 9:7-8</a>), so in this sense only can it be true that the seed of David and the Levites shall out number the host of the heaven and the sand of the sea.<p><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><span class="versiontext"><a href="/commentaries/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Parallel Commentaries ...</a></span><span class="p"><br /><br /><br /></span><a name="lexicon" id="lexicon"></a><div class="vheading">Hebrew</div><span class="word">And the word</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1491;&#1468;&#1456;&#1489;&#1463;&#1512;&#1470;</span> <span class="translit">(d&#601;&#183;&#7687;ar-)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - masculine singular construct<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_1697.htm">Strong's 1697: </a> </span><span class="str2">A word, a matter, thing, a cause</span><br /><br /><span class="word">of the LORD</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1497;&#1456;&#1492;&#1493;&#1464;&#1428;&#1492;</span> <span class="translit">(Yah&#183;weh)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - proper - masculine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_3068.htm">Strong's 3068: </a> </span><span class="str2">LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israel</span><br /><br /><span class="word">came</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1493;&#1463;&#1469;&#1497;&#1456;&#1492;&#1460;&#1497;&#1433;</span> <span class="translit">(way&#183;h&#238;)</span><br /><span class="parse">Conjunctive waw &#124; Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_1961.htm">Strong's 1961: </a> </span><span class="str2">To fall out, come to pass, become, be</span><br /><br /><span class="word">to</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1488;&#1462;&#1469;&#1500;&#1470;</span> <span class="translit">(&#8217;el-)</span><br /><span class="parse">Preposition<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_413.htm">Strong's 413: </a> </span><span class="str2">Near, with, among, to</span><br /><br /><span class="word">Jeremiah:</span><br /><span class="heb">&#1497;&#1460;&#1512;&#1456;&#1502;&#1456;&#1497;&#1464;&#1430;&#1492;&#1493;&#1468;</span> <span class="translit">(yir&#183;m&#601;&#183;y&#257;&#183;h&#363;)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - proper - masculine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_3414.htm">Strong's 3414: </a> </span><span class="str2">Jeremiah -- 'Yah loosens', the name of a number of Israelites</span><br /><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><div class="vheading">Links</div><a href="/niv/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 NIV</a><br /><a href="/nlt/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 NLT</a><br /><a href="/esv/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 ESV</a><br /><a href="/nasb/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 NASB</a><br /><a href="/kjv/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 KJV</a><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><a href="//bibleapps.com/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 BibleApps.com</a><br /><a href="//bibliaparalela.com/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 Biblia Paralela</a><br /><a href="//holybible.com.cn/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 Chinese Bible</a><br /><a href="//saintebible.com/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 French Bible</a><br /><a href="/catholic/jeremiah/33-19.htm">Jeremiah 33:19 Catholic Bible</a><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><a href="/jeremiah/33-19.htm">OT Prophets: Jeremiah 33:19 The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah (Jer.) </a></div></div></td></tr></table></div><div id="left"><a href="/jeremiah/33-18.htm" onmouseover='lft.src="/leftgif.png"' onmouseout='lft.src="/left.png"' title="Jeremiah 33:18"><img src="/left.png" name="lft" border="0" alt="Jeremiah 33:18" /></a></div><div id="right"><a href="/jeremiah/33-20.htm" onmouseover='rght.src="/rightgif.png"' onmouseout='rght.src="/right.png"' title="Jeremiah 33:20"><img src="/right.png" name="rght" border="0" alt="Jeremiah 33:20" /></a></div><div id="botleft"><a href="#" onmouseover='botleft.src="/botleftgif.png"' onmouseout='botleft.src="/botleft.png"' title="Top of Page"><img src="/botleft.png" name="botleft" border="0" alt="Top of Page" /></a></div><div id="botright"><a href="#" onmouseover='botright.src="/botrightgif.png"' onmouseout='botright.src="/botright.png"' title="Top of Page"><img src="/botright.png" name="botright" border="0" alt="Top of Page" /></a></div><div id="bot"><iframe width="100%" height="1500" scrolling="no" src="/botmenubhnew2.htm" frameborder="0"></iframe></div></td></tr></table></div></body></html>
