higher education sector in all aspects of Research Data Management (RDM), Digital Curation, and RDM service development.</h2> </div> <div class="row"> <div class="col-xs-8 news-article box" field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>To further our mission of spreading awareness of good data management practice and policies, we provide dedicated training through workshops. We have conducted trainings in locations across the world as well as in the UK. Our trainers have extensive experience in skills development and in-depth subject knowledge. This stems from first-hand experience supporting high-quality data management around the world, while our wide breadth of knowledge also comes from our staff having various backgrounds including the physical and social sciences. </p> <p>The DCC’s courses are specifically designed to meet the needs of a range of audiences. We can provide skills development targeted at data management professionals, librarians, IT specialists and researchers, from public or private sector organisations. Workshops can be conducted as a standalone engagement or as part of a consultancy package. We mainly provide these through direct (private or on-demand) requests, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge they need to plan and carry out excellent data-led research. Either way, they typically take the form of one or two-day courses, sometimes half day, depending on the content being requested. </p> <h3><strong>Training topics that we cover include:</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Principles of Research data management (RDM), including licensing </li> <li>Open research (science) and open data </li> <li>FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) principles </li> <li>Data management plans (DMPs), including an introduction to <a href="https://dmponline.dcc.ac.uk/" rel="noreferrer noopener">DMPonline</a> </li> <li>Research data ethics and data protection </li> <li>Data selection and preservation </li> <li>Data sharing and repositories </li> <li>Delivering and building RDM services </li> </ul> <p>If there are any other topics not listed above that you may like to learn about, please enquire and we shall see whether we can help you. </p> <p>Occasionally, we also conduct public workshops that require registration, each time covering a different topic. These can be in various locations in Edinburgh, the UK or beyond. Please check back here regularly to see if there are any planned upcoming events. </p> <p>Please note that our training is only available to groups and not to individuals on a one-to-one basis. We offer a lot of helpful resources available for individual users, including checklists about data management planning and licensing your research data. These guidance documents and reports can be found at <a href="https://dcc.ac.uk/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://dcc.ac.uk/guidance</a>. <br /> </p><div class="accordion"> <div class="accordion-item"><a class="accordion-item-title h3" href="#"> Training costs</a><br /> <div class="accordion-copy">DCC training is provided on a cost recovery basis. We ask for reimbursement for our time, as well as travel, accommodation, and subsistence costs. The trainings typically take the form of workshops, where we can deal with 30 participants per trainer in a classroom or “cabaret style” setting. We will provide all materials where necessary, typically in digital form, and almost always will be free to reuse based on the stated CC licence. Prices start from £950 for a half-day online session, however, the cost may be higher depending on your requirements and the amount of staff time required to prepare your course. Please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements further. </div> </div> <div class="accordion-item"><a class="accordion-item-title h3" href="#"> Training in the UK</a><br /> <div class="accordion-copy">Our starting rates for UK training sessions are as follows. These rates include the cost of staff time, travel, accommodation and subsistence. Please note that the quoted cost may be higher depending on your requirements and the amount of staff time required to prepare your course. Requests for highly specific content, which will require more than the average preparation time will be quoted at a higher rate. Training is exempt from VAT. Please note that we will advise you as to whether one or two trainers will be required for a half-day session; this will be dependent on your requirements. Full-day training sessions, and also hands-on DMPonline training, are only available with two trainers. To enquire about training within the UK, please fill in our form below.</div> </div> <div class="accordion-item"><a class="accordion-item-title h3" href="#"> International Training</a><br /> <div class="accordion-copy">The DCC has regularly delivered workshops internationally and we look forward to further opportunities to provide training in your country on an individual cost recovery basis. Quoted costs will be based on the following criteria: Number of days out of the office required per trainer, number of days preparatory time required to develop training material and estimated amount of liaison time. Other costs include estimated travel costs, estimated accommodation costs. Over and above the quoted cost you will pay a subsistence fee per trainer, per day out of the office and any incidental airport transfer costs.
