affects human capital formation in the long term and short term horizon. Our underlying model is an overlapping generation model (OLG) with some degree of altruism on the part of the ancestors' generation towards their descendants. We ask the question in three separate frameworks. First, we study a simple one-sector model where a proxy of human capital is wage income. It the steady-state -for CRRA utility function and human capital produced with non-decreasing returns -the taxation of bequests is neutral to the accumulation of human capital. In the second framework, neutrality applies to the growth rates of human capital, physical capital, and consumption. In this case, taxation increases the level of bequests, leading to a lower value of current consumption. Finally in we consider two periods model instead of infinite horizon model as long as the tax revenue is at least partially rebated back to the public, the fraction of human capital engaged in the process of formation of human capital increases with the tax rate on bequests. In other words, taxation of bequests is partially offset by an increase in human capital formation. Higher human capital allows the future generation to earn higher wages, and today's generation can find it optimal to endow the future generation with more human capital when taxation is imposed on physical capital transferred to the next generation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=taxation" title="taxation">taxation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bequests" title=" bequests"> bequests</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=policy" title=" policy"> policy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human%20capital" title=" human capital"> human capital</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122668/the-impact-of-bequest-taxation-on-human-capital-accumulation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122668.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">168</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> Employment Promotion and Its Role in Counteracting Unemployment during the Financial Crisis in the USA </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Beata%20Wentura-Dudek">Beata Wentura-Dudek</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the United States in 2007-2010 before the crisis, the US labour market policy focused mainly on providing residents with unemployment insurance, after the recession this policy changed. The article presents research based on the analysis of available documents and statistical data. The results of the conducted research show that the most effective forms of counteracting unemployment at that time were: direct job creation, job search assistance, subsidized employment, training and employment promotion using new technologies, including social media. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lotteries" title="lotteries">lotteries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=loyalty%20programs" title=" loyalty programs"> loyalty programs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=competitions" title=" competitions"> competitions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bonus%20sales" title=" bonus sales"> bonus sales</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rebate%20campaigns" title=" rebate campaigns"> rebate campaigns</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115512/employment-promotion-and-its-role-in-counteracting-unemployment-during-the-financial-crisis-in-the-usa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115512.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">143</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">44</span> Knowledge and Ontology Engineering in Continuous Monitoring of Production Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Zar%C4%99ba">Maciej Zaręba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S%C5%82awomir%20Lasota"> Sławomir Lasota</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The monitoring of manufacturing processes is an important issue in nowadays ERP systems. Test results and forecasts translate directly into the education system in this country, which is largely a state system. Sweden is one of the first countries in Europe that has used active labor market policies. It is realized that there is an active unemployment which includes a wide range of activities that can be divided into three groups: Active forms of influencing the creation of new jobs, active forms that affect the labor supply and active forms for people with disabilities. Most of the funding is allocated there for subsidized employment and training. Research conducted in Sweden shows that active forms of counteracting unemployment focused on the long-term unemployed can significantly raise the level of employment in this group. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sweden" title="Sweden">Sweden</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=research%20conducted%20in%20Sweden" title=" research conducted in Sweden"> research conducted in Sweden</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=labour%20market" title=" labour market"> labour market</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=labour%20market%20policies" title=" labour market policies"> labour market policies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=unemployment" title=" unemployment"> unemployment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20forms%20of%20influencing%20the%20creation%20of%20new%20jobs" title=" active forms of influencing the creation of new jobs"> active forms of influencing the creation of new jobs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20forms%20of%20counteracting%20unemployment" title=" active forms of counteracting unemployment"> active forms of counteracting unemployment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=employment" title=" employment"> employment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subsidized%20employment%20education" title=" subsidized employment education"> subsidized employment education</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68495/combating-and-preventing-unemployment-in-sweden" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68495.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">288</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">42</span> A Method for Quantitative Assessment of the Dependencies between Input Signals and Output Indicators in Production Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Zar%C4%99ba">Maciej Zaręba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S%C5%82awomir%20Lasota"> Sławomir Lasota</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Knowing the degree of dependencies between the sets of input signals and selected sets of indicators that measure a production system's effectiveness is of great importance in the industry. The method for identification of the relationship between signals in continuous monitoring of production systems is described in the paper. The method discovers the correlation between changes in the states derived from input signals and resulting changes in the states of output signals of the production system. The method is able to handle system inertia, which determines the time shift of the relationship between the input and output. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=manufacturing%20operation%20management" title="manufacturing operation management">manufacturing operation management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=signal%20relationship" title=" signal relationship"> signal relationship</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuous%20monitoring" title=" continuous monitoring"> continuous monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=production%20systems" title=" production systems"> production systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155368/identification-of-the-relationship-between-signals-in-continuous-monitoring-of-production-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155368.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">92</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> Low-Dose Chest Computed Tomography Can Help in Differential Diagnosis of Asthma–COPD Overlap Syndrome in Children</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frantisek%20Kopriva">Frantisek Kopriva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamila%20Michalkova"> Kamila Michalkova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Radim%20Dudek"> Radim Dudek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jana%20Volejnikova"> Jana Volejnikova</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Rationale: Diagnostic criteria of asthma–COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS) are controversial in pediatrics. Emphysema is characteristic of COPD and usually does not occur in typical asthma; its presence in patients with asthma suggests the concurrence with COPD. Low-dose chest computed tomography (CT) allows a non-invasive assessment of the lung tissue structure. Here we present CT findings of emphysematous changes in a child with ACOS. Patient and Methods: In a 6-year-old boy, atopy was confirmed by a skin prick test using common allergen extracts (grass and tree pollen, house dust mite, molds, cat, dog; manufacturer Stallergenes Greer, London, UK), where reactions over 3 mm were considered positive. Treatment with corticosteroids was started during the course of severe asthma. At 12 years of age, his spirometric parameters deteriorated despite treatment adjustment (VC 1.76 L=85%, FEV1 1.13 L=67%, TI%VCmax 64%, MEF25 19%, TLC 144%) and the bronchodilator test became negative. Results: Low-dose chest CT displayed irregular regions with increased radiolucency of pulmonary parenchyma (typical for hyperinflation in emphysematous changes) in both lungs. This was in accordance with the results of spirometric examination. Conclusions: ACOS is infrequent in children. However, low-dose chest CT scan can be considered to confirm this diagnosis or eliminate other diagnoses when the clinical condition is deteriorating and treatment response is poor. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=child" title="child">child</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asthma" title=" asthma"> asthma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low-dose%20chest%20CT" title=" low-dose chest CT"> low-dose chest CT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ACOS" title=" ACOS"> ACOS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102811/low-dose-chest-computed-tomography-can-help-in-differential-diagnosis-of-asthma-copd-overlap-syndrome-in-children" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102811.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">146</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Assessment of Exhaust Emissions and Fuel Consumption from Means of Transport in Agriculture</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jerzy%20Merkisz">Jerzy Merkisz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Piotr%20Lijewski"> Piotr Lijewski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pawel%20Fuc"> Pawel Fuc</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Siedlecki"> Maciej Siedlecki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrzej%20Ziolkowski"> Andrzej Ziolkowski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sylwester%20Weymann"> Sylwester Weymann</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The paper discusses the problem of load transport using farm tractors and road tractor units. This type of carriage of goods is often done with farm vehicles. The tests were performed with the PEMS equipment (Portable Emission Measurement System) under actual traffic conditions. The vehicles carried a load of 20000 kg. This research method is one of the most desired because it provides reliable information on the actual vehicle emissions and fuel consumption (carbon balance method). For the tests, a route was selected that simulated a trip from a small town to a food-processing facility located in a city. The analysis of the obtained results gave a clear answer as to what vehicles need to be used for the carriage of this type of cargo in terms of exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emission" title="emission">emission</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transport" title=" transport"> transport</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuel%20consumption" title=" fuel consumption"> fuel consumption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PEMS" title=" PEMS"> PEMS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30883/assessment-of-exhaust-emissions-and-fuel-consumption-from-means-of-transport-in-agriculture" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30883.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">529</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">38</span> Using Machine Learning to Monitor the Condition of the Cutting Edge during Milling Hardened Steel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pawel%20Twardowski">Pawel Twardowski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Tabaszewski"> Maciej Tabaszewski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jakub%20Czy%C5%BCycki"> Jakub Czyżycki</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The main goal of the work was to use machine learning to predict cutting-edge wear. The research was carried out while milling hardened steel with sintered carbide cutters at various cutting speeds. During the tests, cutting-edge wear was measured, and vibration acceleration signals were also measured. Appropriate measures were determined from the vibration signals and served as input data in the machine-learning process. Two approaches were used in this work. The first one involved a two-state classification of the cutting edge - suitable and unfit for further work. In the second approach, prediction of the cutting-edge state based on vibration signals was used. The obtained research results show that the appropriate use of machine learning algorithms gives excellent results related to monitoring cutting edge during the process. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=milling%20of%20hardened%20steel" title="milling of hardened steel">milling of hardened steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tool%20wear" title=" tool wear"> tool wear</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vibrations" title=" vibrations"> vibrations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185240/using-machine-learning-to-monitor-the-condition-of-the-cutting-edge-during-milling-hardened-steel" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185240.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">59</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Icephobic and Hydrophobic Behaviour of Laser Patterned Transparent Coatings</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bart%C5%82omiej%20Przybyszewski">Bartłomiej Przybyszewski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rafa%C5%82%20Kozera"> Rafał Kozera</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anna%20Boczkowska"> Anna Boczkowska</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Traczyk"> Maciej Traczyk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paulina%20Kozera"> Paulina Kozera</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malwina%20Liszewska"> Malwina Liszewska</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daria%20Paku%C5%82a"> Daria Pakuła</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The goal of the work was to reduce or completely eliminate the accumulation of dirt, snow and ice build-up on transparent coatings by achieving self-cleaning and icephobic properties. The research involved the use of laser surface texturing technology for chemically modified coatings of the epoxy materials group and their hybrids used to protect glass surfaces. For this purpose, two methods of surface structuring and the preceding volumetric modification of the chemical composition with proprietary organosilicon compounds and/or mineral additives were used. An attractive approach to the topic was the development of efficient and, most importantly, durable coatings with self-cleaning and ice-phobic properties that reduced or avoided dirt build-up and adhesion of water, snow and ice. The aim of this study was to characterize morphological variability of the mitral valve leaflets and to provide the size of their particular parts. Materials and Methods: In the study, we included 200 autopsied human hearts from Caucasian individuals (25% females) with mean age 47.5 (±17.9) without any valvular diseases. The morphology of the mitral valve was evaluated. The intercommissural and aorto-mural diameters of the mitral annulus were measured. All leaflets and their scallops were identified. The base and the height of the posteromedial commissure (PM-C), anterolateral commissure (AL-C), anterior leaflet (AL) and posterior leaflet (PL) with their scallops were measured. Results: The intercommissural diameter was 28.0±4.8 mm, the aorto-mural diameter 19.7±4.8 mm, circumference of the mitral annulus 89.9±12.6 mm and the area of the mitral valve 485.4±171.4 mm2. Classical mitral valves (AL+AL-C+PL(P1,P2,P3)+PM-C) were found in 141 (70.5%) specimens. In classical type, the mean AL base and height were 30.8±4.9 mm and 20.6±4.2 mm, while mean PL base and height 45.1±8.2 mm 12.9±2.8 mm respectively. The mean ratio of the AL base to PL base was 0.7±0.2. Variations in PL were found in 55 (27.5%) and in AL in 5 (2.5%) hearts. The most common variations were: valve with one accessory scallop (AcS) between P3 and PM-C (7%); AcS between P1 and AL-C (4%); connections of P2 and P3 scallops (4%); connections of P1 and P2 scallops (3%); AcS in AL (2.5%). All AcS were smaller than the main PL scallops. The mean intertrigonal distance was 21.9±3.8 mm. Conclusions: In all cases, the mitral valve is built by two main leaflets with possible variants in secondary to leaflets scallops (29.5%). The variations are largely associated with PL and are mostly related to the presence of AcS. Anatomically the AL is not divided into scallops, and it occupies 34.5% of the mitral annulus circumference. Understanding the anatomy of the mitral valve leaflets helps to planning and performing mitral valve repair procedures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accessory%20scallop" title="accessory scallop">accessory scallop</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=commissure" title=" commissure"> commissure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=connected%20%20scallops" title=" connected scallops"> connected scallops</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human%20heart" title=" human heart"> human heart</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mitral%20leaflets" title=" mitral leaflets"> mitral leaflets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mitral%20valve" title=" mitral valve"> mitral valve</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65755/anatomy-of-the-human-mitral-valve-leaflets-implications-for-transcatheter-and-surgical-mitral-valve-repair-techniques" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65755.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">389</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> Financial Sources and Instruments for Public Grants and Financial Facilities of SMEs in Eu</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Simeon%20Karafolas">Simeon Karafolas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Wo%C5%BAniak"> Maciej Woźniak</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Mostly of public financing programs at national and regional level are funded from European Union sources. EU can participate directly to a national and regional program (example LEADER initiative, URBAN…) or indirectly by funding regional or national funds. Funds from European Union are provided from EU multiannual financial framework form which the annual budget is programmed. The adjusted program 2007-2013 of the EU considered commitments of almost 1 trillion Euros for the EU-28 countries. Provisions of the new program 2014-2020 consider commitments of more than 1 trillion Euros. Sustainable growth, divided to Cohesion and Competitiveness for Growth an Employment, is one of the two principal categories; the other is the preservation and management of natural resources. Through this financing process SMEs benefited of EU and public sources by receiving grants for their investments. Most of the financial instruments are available indirectly through the national financial intermediaries. Part of them is managed by the European Investment Fund. The paper focuses on the public financing to SMEs by examining case studies on divers forms of public help. It tries to distinguish the efficiency of the examined good practices and therefore try to have some conclusions on the possibility of application to other regions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DIFASS" title="DIFASS">DIFASS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grants" title=" grants"> grants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SMEs" title=" SMEs"> SMEs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20financing" title=" public financing"> public financing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13215/financial-sources-and-instruments-for-public-grants-and-financial-facilities-of-smes-in-eu" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13215.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">308</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Factors Influencing an Implementation of Financial Participation Programmes in Polish Companies - Some Relationships</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Kozlowski">Maciej Kozlowski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Agnieszka%20Piotrowska-Piatek"> Agnieszka Piotrowska-Piatek</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: This article analyses the most important financial participation programmes (FPP) in Poland to show the relationship between the programmes applied and the socio-economic results of enterprises and assesses the impact of participation on these results and the impact of selected factors on the introduction of FPP. Methodology: The research has been based on a questionnaire answered by senior management of listed Polish companies that had at least one out of three major FPPs in operation, namely share ownership, profit-sharing, or a stock option scheme. Findings: The results of the empirical study conducted indicate the existence of some peculiar relationships. The vast majority of schemes in Polish public companies are aimed at the participation of the management personnel; these programmes are narrow-based (only for management) and rather hermetic, with a high concentration of stocks or shares in the hands of the management. Conclusion: FPPs generally have a positive influence on enterprise functioning. However, the effects are more social than economic (no significant economic improvement after programme implementation). The paper contributes to the debate about financial participation and suggests actions to popularize these programmes on a wider scale. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20participation" title="financial participation">financial participation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=profit%20sharing" title=" profit sharing"> profit sharing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stock%20options" title=" stock options"> stock options</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=worker%20attitude" title=" worker attitude"> worker attitude</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=worker%20ownership" title=" worker ownership"> worker ownership</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137517/factors-influencing-an-implementation-of-financial-participation-programmes-in-polish-companies-some-relationships" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137517.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">139</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Antibacterial Activity of Trans-Cinnamaldehyde and Geraniol and Their Potential as Ingredients of Biocidal Polymers </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daria%20Olkiewicz">Daria Olkiewicz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Walczak"> Maciej Walczak</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, the biocidal effects of trans-cinnamaldehyde (a main component of cinnamon oil) and geraniol (a constituent of Pelargonium graveolens essential oil) are presented. The activity of the combination of trans-cinnamaldehyde and geraniol was tested against 3 bacterial strains: Staphylococcus aureus ATCC6538 (Gramm+), Escherichia coli ATCC8739 (Gramm-, Lac+) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa KKP 991(Gramm-, Lac-). The biocidal activity of trans-cinnamaldehyde-geraniol mixture against bacteria mentioned above was evaluated by disk-diffusion method. The model strains were exposed on 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 mg of trans-cinnamaldehyde-geraniol mixture per disk, and all strains were susceptible to this combination of plant compounds. For all microorganisms, also Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) were estimated. For Staphylococcus aureus MIC was 0.0625 mg/ml of the trans-cinnamaldehyde and geraniol mixture, and MBC was 1.25 mg/ml; For Escherichia coli MIC=0.5 mg/ml, MBC=1 mg/ml, and finally Pseudomonas aeruginosa was inhibited in 0.5 mg/ml, and minimal biocidal concentration of tested mixture for it was 1.25 mg/ml. There are also reports about the synergistic working of trans-cinnamaldehyde and geraniol against microorganisms and the antimicrobial activity of polymers enriched with trans-cinnamaldehyde or geraniol, therefore the successful development and introduction to the today life of biocidal polymer enriched with trans-cinnamaldehyde and geraniol are possible. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibacterial%20activity" title="antibacterial activity">antibacterial activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biocidal%20polymers" title=" biocidal polymers"> biocidal polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geraniol" title=" geraniol"> geraniol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trans-cinnamaldehyde" title=" trans-cinnamaldehyde"> trans-cinnamaldehyde</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128636/antibacterial-activity-of-trans-cinnamaldehyde-and-geraniol-and-their-potential-as-ingredients-of-biocidal-polymers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128636.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">177</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> The Pyrolysis of Leather and Textile Waste in Carbonised Materials as an Element of the Circular Economy Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20%C5%BBycki">Maciej Życki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anna%20Kowalik-klimczak"> Anna Kowalik-klimczak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monika%20%C5%81o%C5%BCy%C5%84ska"> Monika Łożyńska</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wioletta%20Barszcz"> Wioletta Barszcz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jolanta%20Drabik%20Anna%20Kowalik-klimczak"> Jolanta Drabik Anna Kowalik-klimczak</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The rapidly changing fashion trends generate huge amounts of leather and textile waste globally. The complexity of these types of waste makes recycling difficult in economic terms. Pyrolysis is suggested for this purpose, which transforms heterogeneous and complex waste into added-value products e.g. active carbons and soil fertilizer. The possibility of using pyrolysis for the valorization of leather and textile waste has been analyzed in this paper. In the first stage, leather and textile waste were subjected to TG/DTG thermogravimetric and DSC calorimetric analysis. These analyses provided basic information about thermochemical transformations and degradation rates during the pyrolysis of these types of waste and enabled the selection of the pyrolysis temperature. In the next stage, the effect of gas type using pyrolysis was investigated on the physicochemical properties, composition, structure, and formation of the specific surfaces of carbonized materials produced by means of a thermal treatment without oxygen access to the reaction chamber. These studies contribute some data about the thermal management and pyrolytic processing of leather and textile waste into useful carbonized materials, according to the circular economy model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pyrolysis" title="pyrolysis">pyrolysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leather%20and%20textiles%20waste" title=" leather and textiles waste"> leather and textiles waste</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=composition%20and%20structure%20of%20carbonized%20materials" title=" composition and structure of carbonized materials"> composition and structure of carbonized materials</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=valorisation%20of%20waste" title=" valorisation of waste"> valorisation of waste</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=circular%20economy%20model" title=" circular economy model"> circular economy model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/194644/the-pyrolysis-of-leather-and-textile-waste-in-carbonised-materials-as-an-element-of-the-circular-economy-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/194644.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">6</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> Sportband: An Idea for Workout Monitoring in Amateur and Recreational Sports</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamila%20Mazur-Oleszczuk">Kamila Mazur-Oleszczuk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rafal%20Banasiuk"> Rafal Banasiuk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dawid%20Krasnowski"> Dawid Krasnowski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Pek"> Maciej Pek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcin%20Podgorski"> Marcin Podgorski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Krzysztof%20Rykaczewski"> Krzysztof Rykaczewski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sabina%20Zoledowska"> Sabina Zoledowska</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dawid%20Nidzworski"> Dawid Nidzworski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Workout safety is one of the most significant challenges of recreational sports. Loss of water and electrolytes is a consequence of thermoregulatory sweating during exercise. The rate of sweat loss and its chemical composition can fluctuate within and among individuals. That is why we propose our sportband 'Flow' as a device for monitoring these parameters. 'Flow' consists of two parts: an intelligent module and a mobile application. The application allows verifying the training progress and data archiving. The sportband intelligent module includes temperature, heart rate and pulse measurement (non-invasive, continuous methods of workout monitoring). Apart from the standard components, the device will consist of a sweat composition analyzer situated in sportband intelligent module. Sweat is a water solution of numerous compounds such as ions (sodium up to 1609 µg/ml, potassium up to 274 µg/ml), lactic acid (skin pH is between 4.5 - 6) and a small amount of glucose. Awareness of sweat composition allows personalizing electrolyte intake after training. A comprehensive workout monitoring (sweat composition, heart rate, blood oxygen level) will provide improvement in the training routine and time management, which is our goal for the development of the sweat composition analyzer. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow" title="flow">flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sportband" title=" sportband"> sportband</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sweat" title=" sweat"> sweat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workout%20monitoring" title=" workout monitoring"> workout monitoring</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112409/sportband-an-idea-for-workout-monitoring-in-amateur-and-recreational-sports" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112409.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">151</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">27</span> Sleep Quality and Burnout, Mental and Physical Health of Polish Healthcare Workers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Bialorudzki">Maciej Bialorudzki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zbigniew%20Izdebski"> Zbigniew Izdebski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alicja%20Kozakiewicz"> Alicja Kozakiewicz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joanna%20Mazur"> Joanna Mazur</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The quality of sleep is extremely important for physical and mental health, especially among professional groups exposed to the suffering of the people they serve. The aim of the study is to assess sleep quality and various aspects of physical and mental health. A nationwide cross-sectional survey conducted in the first quarter of 2022 included 2227 healthcare professionals from 114 Polish hospitals and specialized outpatient clinics. The following distribution for each professional group was obtained (22% doctors; 52.6% nurses; 7.3% paramedics; 10.1% other medical professionals; 7.9% other non-medical professionals). The mean age of the respondents was 46.24 (SD=11.53). The Jenkins Sleep Scale with four items (JSS-4) was used to assess sleep quality, yielding a mean value of 5.35 (SD=5.20) in the study group and 13.7% of subjects with poor sleep quality using the cutoff point of the mean JSS-4 sum score as >11. More often, women than men reported poorer sleep quality (14,8% vs. 9,1% p=0,002). Respondents with poor sleep quality were more likely to report occupational burnout as measured by the BAT-12 (43.1% vs. 12.9% p<0.001) and high levels of stress as measured by the PSS-4 (72.5% vs. 27.5% p<0.001). In addition, those who declare experiencing a traumatic event compared to those who have not experienced it has an almost two times higher risk of poorer sleep quality (OR:1.958; 95% CI:1.509-2.542; p<0.001). In contrast, those with occupational burnout had more than five times the risk of those without occupational burnout (OR:5.092; 95% CI: 3.763-6.889; p<0.001). Sleep quality remains an important predictor of stress levels, job burnout, and quality of life assessment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20of%20sleep" title="quality of sleep">quality of sleep</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medical%20staff" title=" medical staff"> medical staff</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mental%20health" title=" mental health"> mental health</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physical%20health" title=" physical health"> physical health</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=occupational%20burnout" title=" occupational burnout"> occupational burnout</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress" title=" stress"> stress</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160877/sleep-quality-and-burnout-mental-and-physical-health-of-polish-healthcare-workers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160877.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">74</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> Implementation of Lean Management in Non-Governmental Organizations: A Case Study on WrocłAw Food Bank</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Pie%C5%84kowski">Maciej Pieńkowski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Lean Management is nowadays one of the most dominating management concepts within industrial and service environment, providing compelling business benefits to many companies. At the same time, its application in the non-governmental organizations has not been extensively researched yet. Filling this gap will address clear necessity of efficient management system in NGO environment and significantly improve operational performance of many organizations. The goal of the research is to verify effectiveness of Lean Management implementation in the non-governmental organizations, based on Wrocław Food Bank case study. The case study describes a Lean Management implementation project within analyzed organization. During the project, Wrocław Food Bank went through full 5-step Lean Thinking processes, which consist of value identification, value stream mapping, creation of flow, establishing pull and seeking perfection. The research contains a detailed summary of each of those steps and provides with information regarding results of their implementation. The major findings of the study indicate, that application of Lean Management in NGO environment is possible, however physical implementation of its guidelines can be strongly impeded by multiple constraints, which non-governmental organizations are facing. Due to challenges like limited resources, project based activities and lack of traditional supplier-customer relationship, many NGOs may fail in their efforts to implement Lean Management. Successful Lean application requires therefore strong leadership commitment, which would drive transformation to remove barriers and obstacles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lean%20management" title="lean management">lean management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-governmental%20organizations" title=" non-governmental organizations"> non-governmental organizations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuous%20improvement" title=" continuous improvement"> continuous improvement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lean%20thinking" title=" lean thinking"> lean thinking</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41934/implementation-of-lean-management-in-non-governmental-organizations-a-case-study-on-wroclaw-food-bank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41934.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">304</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25</span> Thermochromic Behavior of Fluoran-Based Mixtures Containing Liquid-Crystalline 4-n-Alkylbenzoic Acids as Color Developers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Magdalena%20Wilk-Kozubek">Magdalena Wilk-Kozubek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jakub%20Paw%C5%82%C3%B3w"> Jakub Pawłów</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Czajkowski"> Maciej Czajkowski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Zdo%C5%84czyk"> Maria Zdończyk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katarzyna%20%C5%9Alepokura"> Katarzyna Ślepokura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joanna%20Cybi%C5%84ska"> Joanna Cybińska</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Thermochromic materials belong to the family of intelligent materials that change their color in response to temperature changes; this ability is called thermochromism. Thermochromic behavior can be displayed by both isolated compounds and multicomponent mixtures. Fluoran leuco dye-based mixtures are well-known thermochromic systems used, for example, in heat-sensitive FAX paper. Weak acids often serve as color developers for such systems. As the temperature increases, the acids melt, and the mixtures become colored. The objective of this research is to determine the influence of acids showing a liquid crystalline nematic phase on the development of the fluoran dye. For this purpose, fluoran-based mixtures with 4-n-alkylbenzoic acids were prepared. The mixtures are colored at room temperature, but they become colorless upon the melting of the acids. The melting of acids is associated not only with a change in the color of the mixtures but also with a change in their emission color. Phase transitions were investigated by temperature-dependent powder X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry; nematic phases were visualized by polarized optical microscopy, and color and emission changes were studied by UV-Vis diffuse reflectance and photoluminescence spectroscopies, respectively. When 4-n-alkylbenzoic acids are used as color developers, the fluoran-based mixtures become colorless after the melting of the acids. This is because the melting of acids is accompanied by the transition from the crystalline phase to the nematic phase, in which the molecular arrangement of the acids does not allow the fluoran dye to be developed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=color%20developer" title="color developer">color developer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leuco%20dye" title=" leuco dye"> leuco dye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liquid%20crystal" title=" liquid crystal"> liquid crystal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermochromism" title=" thermochromism"> thermochromism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150281/thermochromic-behavior-of-fluoran-based-mixtures-containing-liquid-crystalline-4-n-alkylbenzoic-acids-as-color-developers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150281.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">97</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">24</span> Change of Taste Preference after Bariatric Surgery</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Piotr%20Tylec">Piotr Tylec</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Julia%20Wierzbicka"> Julia Wierzbicka</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Natalia%20Gajewska"> Natalia Gajewska</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Krzysztof%20Przeczek"> Krzysztof Przeczek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Grzegorz%20Torbicz"> Grzegorz Torbicz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alicja%20Dudek"> Alicja Dudek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Magdalena%20Pisarska-Adamczyk"> Magdalena Pisarska-Adamczyk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mateusz%20Wierdak"> Mateusz Wierdak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michal%20Pedziwiatr"> Michal Pedziwiatr </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Many patients have described changes in taste perception after weight loss surgery. However, little data is available about short term changes in taste after surgery. Aim: We aimed to evaluate short-term changes in taste preference after bariatric surgeries in comparison to colorectal surgeries. Material and Methods: Between April 2018 and April 2019, a total of 121 bariatric patients and 63 controls participated. Bariatric patients underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy or Roux-en-Y gastric by-pass. Controls underwent oncological colorectal surgeries. Patients who developed clinical complications requiring restriction of oral intake after surgery or withdraw their consent were excluded from the study. In the end, 85 bariatric patients and 44 controls were included. In all of them, the 16-item ERAS Protocol was applied. Using 10-points Numeric Rating Scale (1-10) patients completed questionnaire and rated their appetite and thirst (1 - no appetite/not thirsty, 10 – normal appetite/very thirsty) and flavoured standardized liquids' taste (1- horrible, 10-very tasty) and food images for the 6 group of taste (sweet, umami, sour, spicy, bitter and salty) (1 - not appetizing, 10 - very appetizing) preoperatively and on the first postoperative day. Data were analysed with Statistica 13.0 PL. Results: Analysed group consist of 129 patients (85 bariatric, 44 controls). Mean age and BMI in a research group was 44.91 years old, 46.22 kg/m² and in control group 62.09 years old, 25.87 kg/m², respectively. Our analysis revealed significant differences in changes of appetite between both groups (research: -4.55 ± 3.76 vs. control: -0.85 ± 4.37; p < 0.05), ratings bitter (research: 0.60 ± 2.98 vs. control: -0.88 ± 2.58; p < 0.05) and salty (research: 1.20 ± 3.50 vs. control: -0.52 ± 2.90; p < 0.05) flavoured liquids and ratings for sweet (research: 1.62 ± 3.31 vs. control: 0.01 ± 2.63; p < 0.05) and bitter (research: 1.21 ± 3.15 vs. control: -0.09 ± 2.25; p < 0.05) food images. There were statistically significant results in the ratings of other images, but in comparison to the control group, they were not statistically significant. Conclusion: The study showed that bariatric surgeries quickly decreases appetite and desire to eat certain types of food, such as salty. Moreover, the bitter taste was more desirable in the research group in comparison to control group. Nevertheless, the sweet taste was more appetible in the bariatric group than in control. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bariatric%20surgery" title="bariatric surgery">bariatric surgery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=general%20surgery" title=" general surgery"> general surgery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=obesity" title=" obesity"> obesity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=taste%20preference" title=" taste preference"> taste preference</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128223/change-of-taste-preference-after-bariatric-surgery" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128223.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">135</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Histone Deacetylases Inhibitor - Valproic Acid Sensitizes Human Melanoma Cells for alkylating agent and PARP inhibitor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ma%C5%82gorzata%20Drzewiecka">Małgorzata Drzewiecka</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomasz%20%C5%9Aliwi%C5%84ski"> Tomasz Śliwiński</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Radek"> Maciej Radek</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The inhibition of histone deacetyles (HDACs) holds promise as a potential anti-cancer therapy because histone and non-histone protein acetylation is frequently disrupted in cancer, leading to cancer initiation and progression. Additionally, histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) such as class I HDAC inhibitor - valproic acid (VPA) have been shown to enhance the effectiveness of DNA-damaging factors, such as cisplatin or radiation. In this study, we found that, using of VPA in combination with talazoparib (BMN-637 – PARP1 inhibitor – PARPi) and/or Dacarabazine (DTIC - alkylating agent) resulted in increased DNA double strand break (DSB) and reduced survival (while not affecting primary melanocytes )and proliferation of melanoma cells. Furthermore, pharmacologic inhibition of class I HDACs sensitizes melanoma cells to apoptosis following exposure to DTIC and BMN-637. In addition, inhibition of HDAC caused sensitization of melanoma cells to dacarbazine and BMN-637 in melanoma xenografts in vivo. At the mRNA and protein level histone deacetylase inhibitor downregulated RAD51 and FANCD2. This study provides that combining HDACi, alkylating agent and PARPi could potentially enhance the treatment of melanoma, which is known for being one of the most aggressive malignant tumors. The findings presented here point to a scenario in which HDAC via enhancing the HR-dependent repair of DSBs created during the processing of DNA lesions, are essential nodes in the resistance of malignant melanoma cells to methylating agent-based therapies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=melanoma" title="melanoma">melanoma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hdac" title=" hdac"> hdac</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parp%20inhibitor" title=" parp inhibitor"> parp inhibitor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=valproic%20acid" title=" valproic acid"> valproic acid</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167232/histone-deacetylases-inhibitor-valproic-acid-sensitizes-human-melanoma-cells-for-alkylating-agent-and-parp-inhibitor" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167232.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">82</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">22</span> Enhancing Emotional Intelligence through Non-Verbal Communication Training in Higher Education Exchange Programs: A Longitudinal Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Buczowski">Maciej Buczowski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study investigates the impact of non-verbal communication training on enhancing the emotional intelligence (EI) of participants in higher education exchange programs. Recognizing the vital role EI plays in academic and professional success, particularly in multicultural environments, this research aims to explore the interplay between non-verbal cues and EI. Utilizing a longitudinal mixed-methods approach, the study will assess EI development over time among international students and faculty members. Participants will undergo a comprehensive non-verbal communication training program, covering modules on recognizing and interpreting emotional expressions, understanding cultural variations, and using non-verbal cues to manage interpersonal dynamics. EI levels will be measured using established instruments such as the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) and the Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i), supplemented by qualitative data from interviews and focus groups. A control group will be included to validate the intervention's effectiveness. Data collection at multiple time points (pre-training, mid-training, post-training, and follow-up) will enable tracking of EI changes. The study hypothesizes significant improvements in participants' EI, particularly in emotional awareness, empathy, and relationship management, leading to better academic performance and increased satisfaction with the exchange experience. This research aims to provide insights into the relationship between non-verbal communication and EI, potentially influencing the design of exchange programs to include EI development components and enhancing the effectiveness of international education initiatives. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotional%20intelligence" title="emotional intelligence">emotional intelligence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher%20education%20exchange%20program" title=" higher education exchange program"> higher education exchange program</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-verbal%20communication" title=" non-verbal communication"> non-verbal communication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intercultural%20communication" title=" intercultural communication"> intercultural communication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20linguistics" title=" cognitive linguistics"> cognitive linguistics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/188900/enhancing-emotional-intelligence-through-non-verbal-communication-training-in-higher-education-exchange-programs-a-longitudinal-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/188900.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">24</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">21</span> Empirical Analysis of the Love Languages in the Context of Relationship Satisfaction, Sexual Satisfaction and Empathy in Romantic Heterosexual Couples</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olha%20Mostova">Olha Mostova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Stolarski"> Maciej Stolarski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gerald%20Matthews"> Gerald Matthews</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present paper explores and tests Gary Chapman’s claims that (1) people vary in the ways they prefer to receive and express affection and (2) romantic partners, who communicate their feelings correspondingly to their partner’s preferences, experience greater relationship quality. The author proposes five distinct preferences for and tendencies to express love, including acts of service, physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, and gifts. In the present study, partners (N = 100 romantic, heterosexual couples) completed measures assessing their preferences and behavioral tendencies reflecting 1) how they a) tend to express and b) prefer to receive signs of affection in correspondence to the five proposed categories; 2) relationship satisfaction; 3) sexual satisfaction and 4) empathy, which was expected to be the factor that leads to a better understanding of and responding to the partner’s needs. The degree of the within-couple match was calculated separately for each individual based on the discrepancies between one’s felt (preferred) and their partner’s expressed love language. The joint discrepancy indicator was a sum of such discrepancies across the five love languages. Conducted analyses provided evidence for significant associations between matching on love languages and both relationship and sexual satisfaction. In particular, people who expressed their affection in the way their partners preferred to receive it experienced greater satisfaction with their relationships and were more sexually satisfied compared to those who met their partner’s needs to a lesser extent. Other results provide some support for mediating effects of certain domains of empathy in the said associations among male but not female participants. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=affection" title="affection">affection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=empathy" title=" empathy"> empathy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=love%20languages" title=" love languages"> love languages</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relationship%20satisfaction" title=" relationship satisfaction"> relationship satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=romantic%20couples" title=" romantic couples"> romantic couples</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sexual%20satisfaction" title=" sexual satisfaction"> sexual satisfaction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134887/empirical-analysis-of-the-love-languages-in-the-context-of-relationship-satisfaction-sexual-satisfaction-and-empathy-in-romantic-heterosexual-couples" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134887.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">168</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">20</span> LHCII Proteins Phosphorylation Changes Involved in the Dark-Chilling Response in Plant Species with Different Chilling Tolerance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malgorzata%20Krysiak">Malgorzata Krysiak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anna%20Wegrzyn"> Anna Wegrzyn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Garstka"> Maciej Garstka</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Radoslaw%20Mazur"> Radoslaw Mazur</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Under constantly fluctuating environmental conditions, the thylakoid membrane protein network evolved the ability to dynamically respond to changing biotic and abiotic factors. One of the most important protective mechanism is rearrangement of the chlorophyll-protein (CP) complexes, induced by protein phosphorylation. In a temperate climate, low temperature is one of the abiotic stresses that heavily affect plant growth and productivity. The aim of this study was to determine the role of LHCII antenna complex phosphorylation in the dark-chilling response. The study included an experimental model based on dark-chilling at 4 °C of detached chilling sensitive (CS) runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus L.) and chilling tolerant (CT) garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) leaves. This model is well described in the literature as used for the analysis of chilling impact without any additional effects caused by light. We examined changes in thylakoid membrane protein phosphorylation, interactions between phosphorylated LHCII (P-LHCII) and CP complexes, and their impact on the dynamics of photosystem II (PSII) under dark-chilling conditions. Our results showed that the dark-chilling treatment of CS bean leaves induced a substantial increase of phosphorylation of LHCII proteins, as well as changes in CP complexes composition and their interaction with P-LHCII. The PSII photochemical efficiency measurements showed that in bean, PSII is overloaded with light energy, which is not compensated by CP complexes rearrangements. On the contrary, no significant changes in PSII photochemical efficiency, phosphorylation pattern and CP complexes interactions were observed in CT pea. In conclusion, our results indicate that different responses of the LHCII phosphorylation to chilling stress take place in CT and CS plants, and that kinetics of LHCII phosphorylation and interactions of P-LHCII with photosynthetic complexes may be crucial to chilling stress response. Considering the vast surgical options, we tried to globally compare available methods in terms of quality of following the surgery. The aim of the study is to compare the quality of life a year after bariatric intervention using network meta-analysis methods. Material and Methods: We performed a systematic review according to PRISMA guidelines with Bayesian network meta-analysis. Inclusion criteria were: studies comparing at least two methods of weight loss treatment of which at least one is surgical, assessment of the quality of life one year after surgery by validated questionnaires. Primary outcomes were quality of life one year after bariatric procedure. The following aspects of quality of life were analyzed: physical, emotional, general health, vitality, role physical, social, mental, and bodily pain. All questionnaires were standardized and pooled to a single scale. Lifestyle intervention was considered as a referenced point. Results: An initial reference search yielded 5636 articles. 18 studies were evaluated. In comparison of total score of quality of life, we observed that laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) (median (M): 3.606, Credible Interval 97.5% (CrI): 1.039; 6.191), laparoscopic Roux en-Y gastric by-pass (LRYGB) (M: 4.973, CrI: 2.627; 7.317) and open Roux en-Y gastric by-pass (RYGB) (M: 9.735, CrI: 6.708; 12.760) had better results than other bariatric intervention in relation to lifestyle interventions. In the analysis of the physical aspects of quality of life, we notice better results in LSG (M: 3.348, CrI: 0.548; 6.147) and in LRYGB procedure (M: 5.070, CrI: 2.896; 7.208) than control intervention, and worst results in open RYGB (M: -9.212, CrI: -11.610; -6.844). Analyzing emotional aspects, we found better results than control intervention in LSG, in LRYGB, in open RYGB, and laparoscopic gastric plication. In general health better results were in LSG (M: 9.144, CrI: 4.704; 13.470), in LRYGB (M: 6.451, CrI: 10.240; 13.830) and in single-anastomosis gastric by-pass (M: 8.671, CrI: 1.986; 15.310), and worst results in open RYGB (M: -4.048, CrI: -7.984; -0.305). In social and vital aspects of quality of life, better results were observed in LSG and LRYGB than control intervention. We did not find any differences between bariatric interventions in physical role, mental and bodily aspects of quality of life. Conclusion: The network meta-analysis revealed that better quality of life in total score one year after bariatric interventions were after LSG, LRYGB, open RYGB. In physical and general health aspects worst quality of life was in open RYGB procedure. Other interventions did not significantly affect the quality of life after a year compared to dietary intervention. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bariatric%20surgery" title="bariatric surgery">bariatric surgery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=network%20meta-analysis" title=" network meta-analysis"> network meta-analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20of%20life" title=" quality of life"> quality of life</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=one%20year%20follow-up" title=" one year follow-up"> one year follow-up</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128224/comparison-of-quality-of-life-one-year-after-bariatric-intervention-systematic-review-of-the-literature-with-bayesian-network-meta-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128224.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">159</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> Design of a Mhealth Therapy Management to Maintain Therapy Outcomes after Bariatric Surgery</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Dudek">A. Long-term maintenance of a proper metabolic results after rapid weight loss due to bariatric surgery requires engagement from patients. Mobile health tool may offer alternative model that enhance participant engagement in keeping the therapy. Objective: We aimed to assess the influence of constant monitoring and subsequent motivational alerts in perioperative period and on post-operative effects in the bariatric patients. As well as the study was designed to identify factors conductive urge to change lifestyle after surgery. Methods: This prospective clinical control study was based on a usage of a designed prototype of bariatric mHealth system. The prepared application comprises central data management with a comprehensible interface dedicated for patients and data transfer module as a physician’s platform. Motivation system of a platform consist of motivational alerts, graphic outcome presentation, and patient communication center. Generated list of patients requiring urgent consultation and possibility of a constant contact with a specialist provide safety zone. 31 patients were enrolled in continuous monitoring program during a 6-month period along with typical follow-up visits. After one year follow-up, all patients were examined. Results: There were 20 active users of the proposed monitoring system during the entire duration of the study. After six months, 24 patients took a part in a control by telephone questionnaires. Among them, 75% confirmed that the application concept was an important element in the treatment. Active users of the application indicated as the most valuable features: motivation to continue treatment (11 users), graphical presentation of weight loss, and other parameters (7 users), the ability to contact a doctor (3 users). The three main drawbacks are technical errors (9 users), tedious questionnaires inside the application (5 users), and time-consuming tasks inside the system (2 users). Conclusions: Constant monitoring and successive motivational alerts to continue treatment is an appropriate tool in the treatment after bariatric surgery, mainly in the early post-operative period. Graphic presentation of data and continuous connection with a clinical staff seemed to be an element of motivation to continue treatment and a sense of security. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bariatric%20surgery" title="bariatric surgery">bariatric surgery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mHealth" title=" mHealth"> mHealth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20health%20tool" title=" mobile health tool"> mobile health tool</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=obesity" title=" obesity"> obesity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128225/design-of-a-mhealth-therapy-management-to-maintain-therapy-outcomes-after-bariatric-surgery" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128225.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">113</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">17</span> Safe and Scalable Framework for Participation of Nodes in Smart Grid Networks in a P2P Exchange of Short-Term Products</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maciej%20Jedrzejczyk">Maciej Jedrzejczyk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karolina%20Marzantowicz"> Karolina Marzantowicz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Traditional utility value chain is being transformed during last few years into unbundled markets. Increased distributed generation of energy is one of considerable challenges faced by Smart Grid networks. New sources of energy introduce volatile demand response which has a considerable impact on traditional middlemen in E&U market. The purpose of this research is to search for ways to allow near-real-time electricity markets to transact with surplus energy based on accurate time synchronous measurements. A proposed framework evaluates the use of secure peer-2-peer (P2P) communication and distributed transaction ledgers to provide flat hierarchy, and allow real-time insights into present and forecasted grid operations, as well as state and health of the network. An objective is to achieve dynamic grid operations with more efficient resource usage, higher security of supply and longer grid infrastructure life cycle. Methods used for this study are based on comparative analysis of different distributed ledger technologies in terms of scalability, transaction performance, pluggability with external data sources, data transparency, privacy, end-to-end security and adaptability to various market topologies. An intended output of this research is a design of a framework for safer, more efficient and scalable Smart Grid network which is bridging a gap between traditional components of the energy network and individual energy producers. Results of this study are ready for detailed measurement testing, a likely follow-up in separate studies. New platforms for Smart Grid achieving measurable efficiencies will allow for development of new types of Grid KPI, multi-smart grid branches, markets, and businesses. <p
