and in the seventh year he shall go out free from your house without price. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>If he came in single, he shall go out single; if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>If his master has given him a wife and she has borne him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be his master's and he shall go out alone. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>And if the servant shall say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>Then his master shall bring him to the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or to the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And when a man sells his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out free as the menservants do. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>If her master hates her, so that he will not take her to himself as a wife, then he shall let her be redeemed; he shall have no authority to sell her to a foreign people, because he has dealt deceitfully with her. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And if he takes her for wife to his son, then he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>If he takes to himself another wife, he shall not diminish her food, her clothes, and her conjugal rights. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And if be does not these three things to her, then she shall go out free without price.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God delivered him into his hand, then I will appoint for you a place to which he may flee. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>But if a man ventures to attack his neighbor and slay him treacherously, you shall take him even from my altar to put him to death.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>He who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>He who steals a person and sells him, or he is found in his possession, he shall surely be put to death.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>He who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And if two men quarrel, and one strikes another with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but is put to bed from the injury: <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>If he rises again and walks in the street with his staff, then the one who struck him shall be acquitted, except that he shall pay for the loss of his time and the physician's fee.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>And if a man strikes his servant, or his maid with a staff, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>But if the victim is well after a day or two, he shall not be punished; for he is his property.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>If two men quarrel, and strike a woman with child so that she miscarries, and yet no mischief follow; he shall surely pay a fine such as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>But if any mischief follow, then you shall give life for life, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>Burning for burning, wound for wound, slap for slap.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>land if a man strike the eye of his servant or the eye of his maid, and injure it, he shall let him go free for his eye's sake. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>And if he knocks out the tooth of his manservant or the tooth of his maidservant, he must let him go free for his tooth's sake.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>If an ox gores a man or a woman that he or she die; then the ox shall be surely stoned and its meat shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be blameless. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>But if the ox were known to be in the habit of goring in the past, and its owner has been warned, and he has not kept it in, and it kills a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>But if a sum of money is imposed on him, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatever they ask from him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>Whether the ox has gored a son or a daughter, according to this judgment it shall be done to him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>If the ox gores a manservant or a maidservant, the owner shall give to their master thirty shekels of silver and the ox shall be stoned.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>And if a man shall open a wheat pit or a man shall dig a well, and not cover them, and an ox or an ass fall into it; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>The owner of the pit shall pay money to the owner of the animal, and the dead animal shall be his.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>And if one man's ox gores another man's ox so that it dies; then they shall sell the live ox and divide the money; and the dead ox also they shall divide. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/21-36.htm#aramaic"><b>36</b></a></span>But if it be known that the ox has been in the habit of goring, and his owner has not kept it in;
