A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks. It is connected to two or more data lines from different networks (as opposed to a network switch, which connects data lines from one single network). This paper mainly emphasizes upon the study of router device, its top level architecture, and how various sub-modules of router i.e. Register, FIFO, FSM and Synchronizer are synthesized, and simulated and finally connected to its top module. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20packets" title="data packets">data packets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=networking" title=" networking"> networking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=router" title=" router"> router</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=routing" title=" routing"> routing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39921/router-1x3-rtl-design-and-verification" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39921.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">814</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> The Design and Implementation of an Enhanced 2D Mesh Switch</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manel%20Langar">Manel Langar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Riad%20Bourguiba"> Riad Bourguiba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jaouhar%20Mouine"> Jaouhar Mouine</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we propose the design and implementation of an enhanced wormhole virtual channel on chip router. The buffers are consuming some router area and power. The multiple queues in parallel as in VC router. While running a traffic trace, not all input ports have incoming packets needed to be transferred. Therefore large numbers of queues are empty and others are busy in the network. So the time consumption should be high for the high traffic. Therefore using a RoShaQ, minimize the buffer area and time The RoShaQ architecture was send the input packets are travel through the shared queues at low traffic. At high load traffic the input packets are bypasses the shared queues. So the power and area consumption was reduced. A parallel cross bar architecture is proposed in this project in order to reduce the power consumption. Also a new adaptive weighted routing algorithm for 8-port router architecture is proposed in order to decrease the delay of the network on chip router. The proposed system is simulated using Modelsim and synthesized using Xilinx Project Navigator. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buffer" title="buffer">buffer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RoShaQ%20architecture" title=" RoShaQ architecture"> RoShaQ architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shared%20queue" title=" shared queue"> shared queue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VC%20router" title=" VC router"> VC router</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weighted%20routing%20algorithm" title=" weighted routing algorithm "> weighted routing algorithm </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30024/design-of-low-latency-multiport-network-router-on-chip" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30024.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">542</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> Design of Transformerless Electric Energy Router in Smart Home</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Weidong%20Fu">Weidong Fu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qingsong%20Wang"> Qingsong Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wei%20Hua"> Wei Hua</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ming%20Cheng"> Ming Cheng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Giuseppe%20Buja"> Giuseppe Buja</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A single-phase transformerless electric energy router (TL-EER) is proposed for renewable energy management and power quality improvement in smart homes. The proposed TL-EER only contains four semiconductor switching devices, which reduces costs greatly compared to traditional electric energy routers. TL-EER functions as intelligent systems that optimize the flow and distribution of energy within a grid, enabling seamless interaction between generation, storage, and consumption. In addition, TL-EER operates in multiple modes and could be converted to diverse topologies by changing the states of relays. As for power quality, voltage and current compensating methods are adapted. Thus, high-quality electrical energy could be transferred to the load, and the grid-side power factor could be improved. Finally, laboratory prototypes are established to validate the effectiveness of the system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transformerless" title="transformerless">transformerless</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electric%20energy%20router" title=" electric energy router"> electric energy router</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20flow" title=" power flow"> power flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20quality" title=" power quality"> power quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20factor" title=" power factor"> power factor</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/193534/design-of-transformerless-electric-energy-router-in-smart-home" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/193534.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">10</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> An Efficient Resource Management Algorithm for Mobility Management in Wireless Mesh Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mallikarjuna%20Rao%20Yamarthy">Mallikarjuna Rao Yamarthy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Subramanyam%20Makam%20Venkata"> Subramanyam Makam Venkata</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Satya%20Prasad%20Kodati"> Satya Prasad Kodati</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The main objective of the proposed work is to reduce the overall network traffic incurred by mobility management, packet delivery cost and to increase the resource utilization. The proposed algorithm, An Efficient Resource Management Algorithm (ERMA) for mobility management in wireless mesh networks, relies on pointer based mobility management scheme. Whenever a mesh client moves from one mesh router to another, the pointer is set up dynamically between the previous mesh router and current mesh router based on the distance constraints. The algorithm evaluated for signaling cost, data delivery cost and total communication cost performance metrics. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated for both internet sessions and intranet sessions. Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP Virtual Private Network (VPN) address this problem and it is able to make a communication faster than others techniques. However, this paper studies the performance comparison of video traffic between two routing protocols namely the Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol(EIGRP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF). The combination of traditional routing and MPLS improve the forwarding mechanism, scalability and overall network performance. We will use GNS3 and OPNET Modeler 14.5 to simulate many different scenarios and metrics such as delay, jitter and mean opinion score (MOS) value are measured. The simulation result will show that OSPF and BGP-MPLS VPN offers best performance for video conferencing application. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=OSPF" title="OSPF">OSPF</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BGP" title=" BGP"> BGP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EIGRP" title=" EIGRP"> EIGRP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MPLS" title=" MPLS"> MPLS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Video%20conference" title=" Video conference"> Video conference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Provider%20router" title=" Provider router"> Provider router</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=edge%20router" title=" edge router"> edge router</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=layer3%20VPN" title=" layer3 VPN"> layer3 VPN</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32093/performance-evaluation-of-routing-protocols-for-video-conference-over-mpls-vpn-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32093.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">331</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> Improving Communication System through Router Configuration: The Nigerian Navy Experience</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saidu%20I.%20Rambo">Saidu I. The current system is faced with challenges that make the systems partially effective. The major implementation of the system is to configure routers using hierarchical model and obtaining a VSAT option on C-band platform. These routers will act as a link between Naval Headquarters and the Commands under it. The routers main responsibilities are to forward packets from source location to destination using a Link State Routing Protocol (LSRP). Also using the Point to Point Protocol (PPP), creates a strong encrypted password using Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) which uses one-way hash function of Message Digest 5 (MD5) to provide complete protection against hackers/intruders. Routers can be configured using a Linux operating system or internet work operating system in the Microsoft platform. With this, system packets can be forwarded to various locations more effectively than the present system being used. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=C-band" title="C-band">C-band</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=communication" title=" communication"> communication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=router" title=" router"> router</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VSAT" title=" VSAT"> VSAT</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9952/improving-communication-system-through-router-configuration-the-nigerian-navy-experience" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9952.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">366</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25</span> Curbing Cybercrime by Application of Internet Users’ Identification System (IUIS) in Nigeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=K.%20Alese%20Boniface">K. Inability to identify perpetrators is one of the reasons for the growing menace. This paper proposes a design for monitoring internet users’ activities in order to curbing cybercrime. It requires redefining the operations of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) which will now mandate users to be authenticated before accessing the internet. In implementing this work which can be adapted to a larger scale, a virtual router application is developed and configured to mimic a real router device. A sign-up portal is developed to allow users to register with the ISP. The portal asks for identification information which will include bio-data and government issued identification data like National Identity Card number, et cetera. A unique username and password are chosen by the user to enable access to the internet which will be used to reference him to an Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) of any system he uses on the internet and thereby associating him to any criminal act related to that IP address at that particular time. Questions such as “What happen when another user knows the password and uses it to commit crime?” and other pertinent issues are addressed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cybercrime" title="cybercrime">cybercrime</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sign-up%20portal" title=" sign-up portal"> sign-up portal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet%20service%20provider%20%28ISP%29" title=" internet service provider (ISP)"> internet service provider (ISP)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet%20protocol%20address%20%28IP%20address%29" title=" internet protocol address (IP address)"> internet protocol address (IP address)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12991/curbing-cybercrime-by-application-of-internet-users-identification-system-iuis-in-nigeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12991.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">279</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">24</span> Lightweight Cryptographically Generated Address for IPv6 Neighbor Discovery </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amjed%20Sid%20Ahmed">Amjed Sid Ahmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rosilah%20Hassan"> Rosilah Hassan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nor%20Effendy%20Othman"> Nor Effendy Othman </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Limited functioning of the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) has necessitated the development of the Internetworking Protocol next generation (IPng) to curb the challenges. Indeed, the IPng is also referred to as the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and includes the Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP). The latter performs the role of Address Auto-configuration, Router Discovery (RD), and Neighbor Discovery (ND). Furthermore, the role of the NDP entails redirecting the service, detecting the duplicate address, and detecting the unreachable services. Despite the fact that there is an NDP’s assumption regarding the existence of trust the links’ nodes, several crucial attacks may affect the Protocol. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) therefore has recommended implementation of Secure Neighbor Discovery Protocol (SEND) to tackle safety issues in NDP. The SEND protocol is mainly used for validation of address rights, malicious response inhibiting techniques and finally router certification procedures. For routine running of these tasks, SEND utilizes on the following options, Cryptographically Generated Address (CGA), RSA Signature, Nonce and Timestamp option. CGA is produced at extra high costs making it the most notable disadvantage of SEND. In this paper a clear description of the constituents of CGA, its operation and also recommendations for improvements in its generation are given. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CGA" title="CGA">CGA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IPv6" title=" IPv6"> IPv6</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NDP" title=" NDP"> NDP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SEND" title=" SEND"> SEND</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31309/lightweight-cryptographically-generated-address-for-ipv6-neighbor-discovery" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31309.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">385</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Blocking of Random Chat Apps at Home Routers for Juvenile Protection in South Korea</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Min%20Jin%20Kwon">Min Jin Kwon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seung%20Won%20Kim"> Seung Won Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eui%20Yeon%20Kim"> Eui Yeon Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Haeyoung%20Lee"> Haeyoung Lee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Numerous anonymous chat apps that help people to connect with random strangers have been released in South Korea. However, they become a serious problem for young people since young people often use them for channels of prostitution or sexual violence. Although ISPs in South Korea are responsible for making inappropriate content inaccessible on their networks, they do not block traffic of random chat apps since 1) the use of random chat apps is entirely legal. 2) it is reported that they use HTTP proxy blocking so that non-HTTP traffic cannot be blocked. In this paper, we propose a service model that can block random chat apps at home routers. A service provider manages a blacklist that contains blocked apps’ information. Home routers that subscribe the service filter the traffic of the apps out using deep packet inspection. We have implemented a prototype of the proposed model, including a centralized server providing the blacklist, a Raspberry Pi-based home router that can filter traffic of the apps out, and an Android app used by the router’s administrator to locally customize the blacklist. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20packet%20inspection" title="deep packet inspection">deep packet inspection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet%20filtering" title=" internet filtering"> internet filtering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=juvenile%20protection" title=" juvenile protection"> juvenile protection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technical%20blocking" title=" technical blocking"> technical blocking</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66686/blocking-of-random-chat-apps-at-home-routers-for-juvenile-protection-in-south-korea" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66686.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">349</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">22</span> Digital Forensics Analysis Focusing on the Onion Router Browser Artifacts in Windows 10</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zainurrasyid%20Abdullah">Zainurrasyid Abdullah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Fadzlee%20Sulaiman"> Mohamed Fadzlee Sulaiman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Fadzlan%20Zainal"> Muhammad Fadzlan Zainal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Zabri%20Adil%20Talib"> M. Criminals are taking this advantage to be anonymous over the internet. Accessing the dark web could be the significant reason for the criminal in order for them to perform illegal activities while maintaining their anonymity. For a digital forensic analyst, it is crucial to extract the trail of evidence in proving that the criminal’s computer has used Tor browser to conduct such illegal activities. By applying the digital forensic methodology, several techniques could be performed including application analysis, memory analysis, and registry analysis. Since Windows 10 is the latest operating system released by Microsoft Corporation, this study will use Windows 10 as the operating system platform that running Tor browser. From the analysis, significant artifacts left by Tor browser were discovered such as the execution date, application installation date and browsing history that can be used as an evidence. Although Tor browser was designed to achieved anonymity, there is still some trail of evidence can be found in Windows 10 platform that can be useful for investigation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artifacts%20analysis" title="artifacts analysis">artifacts analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20forensics" title=" digital forensics"> digital forensics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forensic%20analysis" title=" forensic analysis"> forensic analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=memory%20analysis" title=" memory analysis"> memory analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=registry%20analysis" title=" registry analysis"> registry analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tor%20browser" title=" tor browser"> tor browser</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Windows%2010" title=" Windows 10"> Windows 10</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89769/digital-forensics-analysis-focusing-on-the-onion-router-browser-artifacts-in-windows-10" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89769.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">170</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">21</span> A Linearly Scalable Family of Swapped Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Richard%20Draper">Richard Draper</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A supercomputer can be constructed from identical building blocks which are small parallel processors connected by a network referred to as the local network. The routers have unused ports which are used to interconnect the building blocks. These connections are referred to as the global network. The address space has a global and a local component (g, l). The conventional way to connect the building blocks is to connect (g, l) to (g’,l). If there are K blocks, this requires K global ports in each router. If a block is of size M, the result is a machine with KM routers having diameter two. To increase the size of the machine to 2K blocks, each router connects to only half of the other blocks. The result is a larger machine but also one with greater diameter. This is a crude description of how the network of the CRAY XC® is designed. In this paper, a family of interconnection networks using routers with K global and M local ports is defined. Coordinates are (c,d, p) and the global connections are (c,d,p)↔(c’,p,d) which swaps p and d. The network is denoted D3(K,M) and is called a Swapped Dragonfly. D3(K,M) has KM2 routers and has diameter three, regardless of the size of K. To produce a network of size KM2 conventionally, diameter would be an increasing function of K. The family of Swapped Dragonflies has other desirable properties: 1) D3(K,M) scales linearly in K and quadratically in M. 2) If L < K, D3(K,M) contains many copies of D3(L,M). 3) If L < M, D3(K,M) contains many copies of D3(K,L). 4) D3(K,M) can perform an all-to-all exchange in KM2+KM time which is only slightly more than the time to do a one-to-all. This paper makes several contributions. It is the first time that a swap has been used to define a linearly scalable family of networks. Structural properties of this new family of networks are thoroughly examined. A synchronizing packet header is introduced. It specifies the path to be followed and it makes it possible to define highly parallel communication algorithm on the network. Among these is an all-to-all exchange in time KM2+KM. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the swap properties of the network of the CRAY XC® and D3(K,16) are compared. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=all-to-all%20exchange" title="all-to-all exchange">all-to-all exchange</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CRAY%20XC%C2%AE" title=" CRAY XC®"> CRAY XC®</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dragonfly" title=" Dragonfly"> Dragonfly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interconnection%20network" title=" interconnection network"> interconnection network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=packet%20switching" title=" packet switching"> packet switching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swapped%20network" title=" swapped network"> swapped network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=topology" title=" topology"> topology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79510/a-linearly-scalable-family-of-swapped-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79510.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">121</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">20</span> Exploring the Connectedness of Ad Hoc Mesh Networks in Rural Areas</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ibrahim%20Obeidat">Ibrahim Obeidat </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Reaching a fully-connected network of mobile nodes in rural areas got a great attention between network researchers. This attention rose due to the complexity and high costs while setting up the needed infrastructures for these networks, in addition to the low transmission range these nodes has. Terranet technology, as an example, employs ad-hoc mesh network where each node has a transmission range not exceed one kilometer, this means that every two nodes are able to communicate with each other if they are just one kilometer far from each other, otherwise a third-party will play the role of the “relay”. In Terranet, and as an idea to reduce network setup cost, every node in the network will be considered as a router that is responsible of forwarding data between other nodes which result in a decentralized collaborative environment. Most researches on Terranet presents the idea of how to encourage mobile nodes to become more cooperative by letting their devices in “ON” state as long as possible while accepting to play the role of relay (router). This research presents the issue of finding the percentage of nodes in ad-hoc mesh network within rural areas that should play the role of relay at every time slot, relating to what is the actual area coverage of nodes in order to have the network reach the fully-connectivity. Far from our knowledge, till now there is no current researches discussed this issue. The research is done by making an implementation that depends on building adjacency matrix as an indicator to the connectivity between network members. This matrix is continually updated until each value in it refers to the number of hubs that should be followed to reach from one node to another. After repeating the algorithm on different area sizes, different coverage percentages for each size, and different relay percentages for several times, results extracted shows that for area coverage less than 5% we need to have 40% of the nodes to be relays, where 10% percentage is enough for areas with node coverage greater than 5%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ad-hoc%20mesh%20networks" title="ad-hoc mesh networks">ad-hoc mesh networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=network%20connectivity" title=" network connectivity"> network connectivity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20ad-hoc%20networks" title=" mobile ad-hoc networks"> mobile ad-hoc networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Terranet" title=" Terranet"> Terranet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adjacency%20matrix" title=" adjacency matrix"> adjacency matrix</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulator" title=" simulator"> simulator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20sensor%20networks" title=" wireless sensor networks"> wireless sensor networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peer%20to%20peer%20networks" title=" peer to peer networks"> peer to peer networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vehicular%20Ad%20hoc%20networks" title=" vehicular Ad hoc networks"> vehicular Ad hoc networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relay" title=" relay"> relay</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11164/exploring-the-connectedness-of-ad-hoc-mesh-networks-in-rural-areas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11164.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">282</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19</span> Critical Evaluation and Analysis of Effects of Different Queuing Disciplines on Packets Delivery and Delay for Different Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omojokun%20Gabriel%20Aju">Omojokun Gabriel Aju</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Communication network is a process of exchanging data between two or more devices via some forms of transmission medium using communication protocols. The data could be in form of text, images, audio, video or numbers which can be grouped into FTP, Email, HTTP, VOIP or Video applications. The effectiveness of such data exchange will be proved if they are accurately delivered within specified time. While some senders will not really mind when the data is actually received by the receiving device, inasmuch as it is acknowledged to have been received by the receiver. The time a data takes to get to a receiver could be very important to another sender, as any delay could cause serious problem or even in some cases rendered the data useless. The validity or invalidity of a data after delay will therefore definitely depend on the type of data (information). It is therefore imperative for the network device (such as router) to be able to differentiate among the packets which are time sensitive and those that are not, when they are passing through the same network. So, here is where the queuing disciplines comes to play, to handle network resources when such network is designed to service widely varying types of traffics and manage the available resources according to the configured policies. Therefore, as part of the resources allocation mechanisms, a router within the network must implement some queuing discipline that governs how packets (data) are buffered while waiting to be transmitted. The implementation of the queuing discipline will regulate how the packets are buffered while waiting to be transmitted. In achieving this, various queuing disciplines are being used to control the transmission of these packets, by determining which of the packets get the highest priority, less priority and which packets are dropped. The queuing discipline will therefore control the packets latency by determining how long a packet can wait to be transmitted or dropped. The common queuing disciplines are first-in-first-out queuing, Priority queuing and Weighted-fair queuing (FIFO, PQ and WFQ). This paper critically evaluates and analyse through the use of Optimized Network Evaluation Tool (OPNET) Modeller, Version 14.5 the effects of three queuing disciplines (FIFO, PQ and WFQ) on the performance of 5 different applications (FTP, HTTP, E-Mail, Voice and Video) within specified parameters using packets sent, packets received and transmission delay as performance metrics. The paper finally suggests some ways in which networks can be designed to provide better transmission performance while using these queuing disciplines. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=applications" title="applications">applications</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=first-in-first-out%20queuing%20%28FIFO%29" title=" first-in-first-out queuing (FIFO)"> first-in-first-out queuing (FIFO)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimised%20network%20evaluation%20tool%20%28OPNET%29" title=" optimised network evaluation tool (OPNET)"> optimised network evaluation tool (OPNET)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=packets" title=" packets"> packets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=priority%20queuing%20%28PQ%29" title=" priority queuing (PQ)"> priority queuing (PQ)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=queuing%20discipline" title=" queuing discipline"> queuing discipline</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weighted-fair%20queuing%20%28WFQ%29" title=" weighted-fair queuing (WFQ)"> weighted-fair queuing (WFQ)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26471/critical-evaluation-and-analysis-of-effects-of-different-queuing-disciplines-on-packets-delivery-and-delay-for-different-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26471.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">358</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> Survey on Energy Efficient Routing Protocols in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Swapnil%20Singh">Swapnil Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sanjoy%20Das"> Sanjoy Das</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is infrastructure less networks dynamically formed by autonomous system of mobile nodes that are connected via wireless links. Single hotwire anemometry measurements are done at one location x=1.5 m downstream at different freestream velocities under zero-pressure gradient conditions. As expected, the roughness causes a downward shift on the wall-unit normalised streamwise mean velocity profile when compared to the smooth wall profile. The shift is increasing with increasing Reτ, 1.8 < ∆U+ < 6.2. The coefficient of friction is almost constant at all cases Cf = 0.0042 ± 0.0002. It has neither fixed infrastructure nor wireless ad hoc sessions. It inherently reaches several nodes with a single transmission, and each node functions as both a host and a router. The network maybe represented as a set of clusters each managed by clusterhead. The cluster size is not fixed and it depends on the movement of nodes. We proposed a clusterhead size algorithm (CHSize). This clustering algorithm can be used by several routing algorithms for ad hoc networks. An elected clusterhead is assigned for communication with all other clusters. Analysis and simulation of the algorithm has been implemented using GloMoSim networks simulator, MATLAB and MAPL11 proved that the proposed algorithm achieves the goals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title="simulation">simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MANET" title=" MANET"> MANET</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ad-hoc" title=" Ad-hoc"> Ad-hoc</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cluster%20head%20size" title=" cluster head size"> cluster head size</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linked%20cluster%20algorithm" title=" linked cluster algorithm"> linked cluster algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=loss%20and%20dropped%20packets" title=" loss and dropped packets"> loss and dropped packets</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41610/simulation-approach-for-a-comparison-of-linked-cluster-algorithm-and-clusterhead-size-algorithm-in-ad-hoc-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41610.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">392</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> Scheduling Tasks in Embedded Systems Based on NoC Architecture</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=D.%20Dorota">D. This method takes into account the attribute of divisibility of tasks. A proposal represents the process in the form of trees. Despite the fact that the architecture of Network-on-Chip (NoC) is an interesting alternative to a bus architecture based on multi-processors systems, it requires a lot of work that ensures the optimization of communication. This paper proposes an effective approach to generate dedicated NoC topology solving communication problems. Network NoC is generated taking into account the energy consumption and resource issues. Ultimately generated is minimal, dedicated NoC topology. The first security model that 802.11i offers is the Personal model which is very cheap and simple to install and maintain, yet it uses a Pre Shared Key (PSK) and thus has a low to medium security level. The second model that 802.11i provide is the Enterprise model which is highly secured but much more expensive and difficult to install/maintain and requires the installation and maintenance of an authentication server that will handle the authentication and key management for the wireless network. A central issue with the personal model is that the PSK needs to be shared with all the devices that are connected to the specific Wi-Fi network. This pre-shared key, unless changed regularly, can be cracked using offline dictionary attacks within a matter of hours. The key is burdensome to change in all the connected devices manually unless there is some kind of algorithm that coordinate this PSK update. The key idea of this paper is to propose a new algorithm that proactively and effectively coordinates the pre-shared key generation, management, and distribution in the cheap WPA/WPA2 personal security model using only a DD-WRT router. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wi-Fi" title="Wi-Fi">Wi-Fi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=WPS" title=" WPS"> WPS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TLS" title=" TLS"> TLS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DD-WRT" title=" DD-WRT"> DD-WRT</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58334/proactive-wpawpa2-security-using-dd-wrt-firmware" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58334.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">233</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Reliability Analysis of Computer Centre at Yobe State University Nigeria under Different Repair Policies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vijay%20Vir%20Singh">Vijay Vir Singh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we focus on the reliability and performance analysis of Computer Centre (CC) at Yobe State University, Damaturu, Nigeria. These networks can be deployed formany critical applications like military operations, rescue management, fire detection and so on. In flat routing structure, every node plays an equal role of sensor and router. The topology may change very frequently due to the mobile nature of nodes in WSNs. The topology maintenance may produce more overhead messages. To avoid topology maintenance overhead messages, an optimized cluster based mobile wireless sensor network using memetic algorithm is proposed in this paper. The nodes in this network are first divided into clusters. The cluster leaders then transmit data to that base station. The network is validated through extensive simulation study. With traffic shaping functionality agents shape the traffic forward by dynamic and real time allocation of the rate of generation of tokens in a Token Bucket algorithm and with buffer allocation functionality agents share their buffer capacity between each other based on their need and the conditions of the network. This dynamic and intelligent framework gives this opportunity to some ports to work better under burst and more busy conditions. These agents work intelligently based on Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithm and will consider effective parameters in their decision process. As RL have limitation considering much parameter in its decision process due to the volume of calculations, we utilize our novel method which invokes Principle Component Analysis (PCA) on the RL and gives a high dimensional ability to this algorithm to consider as much as needed parameters in its decision process. This implementation when is compared to our previous work where traffic shaping was done without any sharing and dynamic allocation of buffer size for each port, the lower packet drop in the whole network specifically in the source routers can be seen. These methods are implemented in our previous proposed intelligent simulation environment to be able to compare better the performance metrics. The results obtained from this simulation environment show an efficient and dynamic utilization of resources in terms of bandwidth and buffer capacities pre allocated to each port. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=principal%20component%20analysis" title="principal component analysis">principal component analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reinforcement%20learning" title=" reinforcement learning"> reinforcement learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buffer%20allocation" title=" buffer allocation"> buffer allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-%20agent%20systems" title=" multi- agent systems"> multi- agent systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26050/buffer-allocation-and-traffic-shaping-policies-implemented-in-routers-based-on-a-new-adaptive-intelligent-multi-agent-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26050.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">518</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Infrared Lightbox and iPhone App for Improving Detection Limit of Phosphate Detecting Dip Strips</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Heidari-Bafroui">H. Commercial paper-based devices utilize the molybdenum blue protocol to detect phosphate in the environment. Although these devices are easy to use and have a long shelf life, their main deficiency is their low sensitivity based on the qualitative results obtained via a color chart. To improve the results, we constructed a compact infrared lightbox that communicates wirelessly with a smartphone. The system measures the absorbance of radiation for the molybdenum blue reaction in the infrared region of the spectrum. It consists of a lightbox illuminated by four infrared light-emitting diodes, an infrared digital camera, a Raspberry Pi microcontroller, a mini-router, and an iPhone to control the microcontroller. An iPhone application was also developed to analyze images captured by the infrared camera in order to quantify phosphate concentrations. Additionally, the app connects to an online data center to present a highly scalable worldwide system for tracking and analyzing field measurements. In this study, the detection limits for two popular commercial devices were improved by a factor of 4 for the Quantofix devices (from 1.3 ppm using visible light to 300 ppb using infrared illumination) and a factor of 6 for the Indigo units (from 9.2 ppm to 1.4 ppm) with repeatability of less than or equal to 1.2% relative standard deviation (RSD). The system also provides more granular concentration information compared to the discrete color chart used by commercial devices and it can be easily adapted for use in other applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=infrared%20lightbox" title="infrared lightbox">infrared lightbox</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=paper-based%20device" title=" paper-based device"> paper-based device</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phosphate%20detection" title=" phosphate detection"> phosphate detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smartphone%20colorimetric%20analyzer" title=" smartphone colorimetric analyzer"> smartphone colorimetric analyzer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127794/infrared-lightbox-and-iphone-app-for-improving-detection-limit-of-phosphate-detecting-dip-strips" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127794.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">123</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> A QoS Aware Cluster Based Routing Algorithm for Wireless Mesh Network Using LZW Lossless Compression</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J.%20S.%20Saini">J. Quality of Service mentions a vast collection of networking technologies and techniques that guarantee the ability of a network to make available desired services with predictable results. Quality of Service (QoS) can be directed at a network interface, towards a specific server or router's performance, or in specific applications. Due to interference among various transmissions, the QoS routing in multi-hop wireless networks is formidable task. In case of multi-channel wireless network, since two transmissions using the same channel may interfere with each other. This paper has considered the Destination Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV) routing protocol to locate the secure and optimised path. The proposed technique also utilizes the Lempel–Ziv–Welch (LZW) based lossless data compression and intra cluster data aggregation to enhance the communication between the source and the destination. The use of clustering has the ability to aggregate the multiple packets and locates a single route using the clusters to improve the intra cluster data aggregation. The use of the LZW based lossless data compression has ability to reduce the data packet size and hence it will consume less energy, thus increasing the network QoS. The MATLAB tool has been used to evaluate the effectiveness of the projected technique. The comparative analysis has shown that the proposed technique outperforms over the existing techniques. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=WMNS" title="WMNS">WMNS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=QOS" title=" QOS"> QOS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flooding" title=" flooding"> flooding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=collision%20avoidance" title=" collision avoidance"> collision avoidance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LZW" title=" LZW"> LZW</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=congestion%20control" title=" congestion control"> congestion control</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31412/a-qos-aware-cluster-based-routing-algorithm-for-wireless-mesh-network-using-lzw-lossless-compression" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31412.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">338</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Pervasive Computing: Model to Increase Arable Crop Yield through Detection Intrusion System (IDS)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Idowu%20Olugbenga%20Adewumi">Idowu Olugbenga Adewumi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Foluke%20Iyabo%20Oluwatoyinbo"> Foluke Iyabo Oluwatoyinbo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Presently, there are several discussions on the food security with increase in yield of arable crop throughout the world. This article, briefly present research efforts to create digital interfaces to nature, in particular to area of crop production in agriculture with increase in yield with interest on pervasive computing. The approach goes beyond the use of sensor networks for environmental monitoring but also by emphasizing the development of a system architecture that detect intruder (Intrusion Process) which reduce the yield of the farmer at the end of the planting/harvesting period. The objective of the work is to set a model for setting up the hand held or portable device for increasing the quality and quantity of arable crop. This process incorporates the use of infrared motion image sensor with security alarm system which can send a noise signal to intruder on the farm. This model of the portable image sensing device in monitoring or scaring human, rodent, birds and even pests activities will reduce post harvest loss which will increase the yield on farm. The nano intelligence technology was proposed to combat and minimize intrusion process that usually leads to low quality and quantity of produce from farm. Intranet system will be in place with wireless radio (WLAN), router, server, and client computer system or hand held device e.g PDAs or mobile phone. This approach enables the development of hybrid systems which will be effective as a security measure on farm. Since, precision agriculture has developed with the computerization of agricultural production systems and the networking of computerized control systems. In the intelligent plant production system of controlled greenhouses, information on plant responses, measured by sensors, is used to optimize the system. Further work must be carry out on modeling using pervasive computing environment to solve problems of agriculture, as the use of electronics in agriculture will attracts more youth involvement in the industry. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pervasive%20computing" title="pervasive computing">pervasive computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intrusion%20detection" title=" intrusion detection"> intrusion detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=precision%20agriculture" title=" precision agriculture"> precision agriculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=security" title=" security"> security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=arable%20crop" title=" arable crop"> arable crop</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15786/pervasive-computing-model-to-increase-arable-crop-yield-through-detection-intrusion-system-ids" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15786.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">403</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Electromagnetic Energy Harvesting by Using a Rectenna with a Metamaterial Lens</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ursula%20D.%20C.%20Resende">Ursula D. In order to supply energy for small loads, the energy from the electromagnetic spectrum can be harvested. This possibility is particularly interesting because this kind of energy is constantly available in the environment and the number of radiofrequency sources is permanently increasing, due to advances in telecommunications services. A rectenna, which is a combination of an antenna and a rectifier circuit, is an equipment that can efficiently perform the electromagnetic energy harvesting. However, since the amount of electromagnetic energy available in the environment is very small, limited values of power can be harvested by the rectenna. Therefore, several technical strategies have been investigated in order to increase this amount of power. In this work, a metamaterial electromagnetic lens is used to improve the electromagnetic energy harvesting. The rectenna investigated was designed and optimized to charge a Li-Ion battery using the electromagnetic energy from an internet Wi-Fi commercial router model TL-WR841HP operating in 2.45 GHz with maximal output power equal to 18 dBm. The rectenna consists of a high directive antenna, a double voltage rectifier circuit and a metamaterial lens. The printed antenna, constituted of two rectangular radiator elements, was projected and optimized by using the Computer Simulation Software (CST) in order to obtain high directivities and values of S11 parameter below -10 dB in 2.45 GHz. The antenna was printed over a double-sided copper fiberglass substrate, FR4, with characterized relative electric permittivity εr = 4.3 and tangent of losses δ = 0.01. The rectifier circuit, which incorporates a circuit for impedance matching and uses the Schottky diode HSMS-2852, was projected and optimized by using Advanced Design Software (ADS) and built over the same FR4 substrate. The metamaterial cell is composed of two Square Split Ring Resonator (S-SRR) and a thin wire in order to operate with negative values of εr and relative magnetic permeability in 2.45 GHz. In order to evaluate the performance of the purposed rectenna two experimental charging tests were performed, one without and other with the metamaterial lens. The result obtained demonstrate that the electromagnetic lens was able to significantly increase the levels of electric current delivered to the battery, approximately 44%. <p
