Now get her for me as a wife.&#8221; <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>And his father and his mother said to him: &#8220;Is not here in the house of your father and among all your people a woman, that you go to take a wife from the daughters of the uncircumcised Philistines?&#8221; And Samson said to his father: &#8220;Take her for me, because she is pleasing in my eyes&#8221; <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>And his father and his mother were not aware that she was from LORD JEHOVAH, so that a penalty would be required for bloodshed from the Philistines, and at that time the Philistines were authorized over Israel<p> <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>And Samson came down, and his father and his mother to Tamnath, and they came unto the vineyard of Tamnath, and behold, a whelp of a lion roared against him <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>And The Spirit of LORD JEHOVAH granted him success, and he ripped it apart as if to tear apart a kid, and there was nothing in his hand, and he did not show his father or his mother the thing that he did <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And they went down and they spoke with the woman and she was pleasing in the eyes of Samson<p> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And he returned from after days to take her and departed to see the skeleton of the lion, and behold, a swarm of bees was in the corpse of the lion, and the honey ran over his hands and he was walking <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And he walked and he went on to his father and to his mother, and he gave to them and they ate, and he did not tell them that the honey flowed from the body of the lion<p> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>And his father came down to the woman, and Samson made there a wedding feast seven days, for so were young men making a wedding feast <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And when they saw him, thirty men came and they were friends of the groom for him<p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And Samson said to them: &#8220;I have a riddle for you. If you will interpret it for me during the seven days of the wedding feast and you will make it known, I shall give to you thirty felt overcoats and thirty suits of clothes <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>And if you cannot interpret it to me, you give me thirty felt coats and thirty suits of clothes.&#8221; They said to him: &#8220;Give your riddle and we will listen to it&#8221;<p> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>He said to them: &#8220;From the eater went out food, and from the cruel went out sweetness.&#8221; And they could not interpret the riddle for three days<p> <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>And on the fourth day they said to the wife of Samson: &#8220;Entice your husband to inform us of his riddle, lest we burn you and the house of your father in fire, and we shall possess his inheritance!&#8221; <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>And the wife of Samson wept and said to him: &#8220;Truly you have hated me and you have not loved me, because the riddle that you have given to the sons of my people you have not told me, and he said to her: &#8220;I have not told my father and my mother; shall I tell you?&#8221; <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>And she was weeping those seven days of the wedding feast, and on the seventh day he told her, because she tormented him, and she revealed the riddle to the sons of her people<p> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And the men of the city were saying on the seventh day, before he would enter the banquet: &#8220;What is sweeter than honey, or what is that stronger than a lion?&#8221; Samson said to them, &#8220;If you had not allured my heifer, you would not have interpreted my riddle&#8221;<p> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/judges/14-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>And The Spirit of LORD JEHOVAH granted him prosperity and he went down to Ashqalaun and he seized thirty men of them and he killed them, and he took their clothes and he gave to those who interpreted his riddle.
