the day<MH3117> of punishment<MH6486>, <t><p class="indent1">And in the devastation<MH7724b> which will come<MH935> from afar<MH4801>? <t><p class="indent1">To whom<MH4310> will you flee<MH5127> for href="/isaiah/10-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Woe<MH1945> to Assyria<MH804b>, the rod<MH7626> of My anger<MH639> <t><p class="indent1">And the staff<MH4294> in whose hands<MH3027> is My indignation<MH2195>, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>I send<MH7971> it against a godless<MH2611> nation<MH1471> <t><p class="indent1">And commission<MH6680> it against<MH5921> the people<MH5971a> of My fury<MH5678> <t><p class="indent1">To capture<MH7997b> spoils<MH7998> and to seize<MH962> plunder<MH957>, <t><p class="indent1">And to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>trample<MH4823> them down<MH4823> like mud<MH2563a> in the streets<MH2351>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Yet it does not so<MH3651> intend<MH1819>, <t><p class="indent1">Nor<MH3808> does <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>it plan<MH2803> so<MH3651> in its heart<MH3824>, <t><p class="indent1">But rather<MH3588> it is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>its purpose<MH3824> to destroy<MH8045> <t><p class="indent1">And to eliminate<MH3772> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>many<MH3808, 4592> nations<MH1471>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For it says<MH559>, &#8220;Are not my officers<MH8269> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>all<MH3164a> kings<MH4428>? <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>&#8220;Is not Calno<MH3641b> like Carchemish<MH3751>, <t><p class="indent1">Or<MH518> Hamath<MH2574> like Arpad<MH774>, <t><p class="indent1">Or<MH518> Samaria<MH8111> like Damascus<MH1834>? <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>&#8220;As my hand<MH3027> has reached<MH4672> to the kingdoms<MH4467> of the idols<MH457>, <t><p class="indent1">Whose carved<MH6456> images<MH6456> <i>were greater</i> than<MH4480> those of Jerusalem<MH3389> and Samaria<MH8111>, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Shall I not do<MH6213a> the same<MH3651> to Jerusalem<MH3389> and her images<MH6091> <t><p class="indent1">Just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> I have done<MH6213a> to Samaria<MH8111> and her idols<MH457>?&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>So it will be that when<MH3588> the Lord<MH136> has completed<MH1214> all<MH3605> His work<MH4639> on Mount<MH2022> Zion<MH6726> and on Jerusalem<MH3389>, <i>He will say,</i> &#8220;I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>punish<MH6485> the fruit<MH6529> of the arrogant<MH1433> heart<MH3824> of the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b> and the arrogant<MH7312> pride<MH8597> of his eyes<MH5869>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>For he has said<MH559>, <p class="indent1stline">&#8220;By the power<MH3581b> of my hand<MH3027> and by my wisdom<MH2451> I did<MH6213a> <i>this,</i> <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> I have<MH995> understanding<MH995>; <t><p class="indent1">And I removed<MH5493> the boundaries<MH1367> of the peoples<MH5971a> <t><p class="indent1">And plundered<MH8154> their treasures<MH6264>, <t><p class="indent1">And like a powerful<MH3524> man<MH47> I brought<MH3381> down<MH3381> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span><i>their</i> inhabitants<MH3427>, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And my hand<MH3027> reached<MH4672> to the riches<MH2428> of the peoples<MH5971a> like a nest<MH7064>, <t><p class="indent1">And as one gathers<MH622> abandoned<MH5800a> eggs<MH1000>, I gathered<MH622> all<MH3605> the earth<MH776>; <t><p class="indent1">And there was not one that flapped<MH5074> its wing<MH3671>, opened<MH6475> <i>its</i> beak<MH6310>, or chirped<MH6850>.&#8221; <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Is the axe<MH1631> to boast<MH6286> itself over<MH5921> the one who chops<MH2672> with it? <t><p class="indent1">Is the saw<MH4883> to exalt<MH1431> itself over<MH5921> the one who wields<MH5130> it? <t><p class="indent1"><i>That would be</i> like a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>club<MH7626> wielding<MH5130> those who lift<MH7311> it, <t><p class="indent1"><i>Or</i> like a rod<MH4294> lifting<MH7311> <i>the one who</i> is not wood<MH6086>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651> the Lord<MH136>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, will send<MH7971> a wasting<MH7332> disease<MH7332> among his stout<MH4924a> warriors<MH4924a>; <t><p class="indent1">And under<MH8478> his glory<MH3519b> a fire<MH3350> will be kindled<MH3344> like a burning<MH3350> flame<MH784>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And the Light<MH216> of Israel<MH3478> will become<MH1961> a fire<MH784> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Israel&#8217;s Holy<MH6918> One<MH6918> a flame<MH3852>, <t><p class="indent1">And it will burn<MH1197a> and devour<MH398> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>his thorns<MH7898> and his briars<MH8068> in a single<MH259> day<MH3117>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And He will destroy<MH3615> the glory<MH3519b> of his forest<MH3293a> and of his fruitful<MH3759> garden<MH3759>, both<MH4480> soul<MH5315> and body<MH1320>, <t><p class="indent1">And it will be as when a sick<MH5263> person<MH5263> wastes<MH4549> away<MH4549>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And the rest<MH7605> of the trees<MH6086> of his forest<MH3293a> will be so small in number<MH4557> <t><p class="indent1">That a child<MH5288> could write<MH3789> them down<MH3789>. <p class="hdg">A Remnant Will Return</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Now on that day<MH3117> the remnant<MH7605> of Israel<MH3478>, and those of the house<MH1004> of Jacob<MH3290> who<MH6413> have escaped<MH6413>, will no<MH3808> longer<MH3254, 5750> rely<MH8172> on the one who struck<MH5221> them, but will truly<MH571> rely<MH8172> on the LORD<MH3068>, the Holy<MH6918> One<MH6918> of Israel<MH3478>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>A remnant<MH7605> will return<MH7725>, the remnant<MH7605> of Jacob<MH3290>, to the mighty<MH1368> God<MH410>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For though<MH518> your people<MH5971a>, Israel<MH3478>, may be like the sand<MH2344> of the sea<MH3220>, <t><p class="indent1"><i>Only</i> a remnant<MH7605> within them will return<MH7725>; <t><p class="indent1">A destruction<MH3631> is determined<MH2782>, overflowing<MH7857> with righteousness<MH6666>. <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>For a complete<MH3617> destruction<MH3617>, one that is determined<MH2782>, the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> will execute<MH6213a> in the midst<MH7130> of the whole<MH3605> land<MH776>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651> this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> says<MH559>: &#8220;My people<MH5971a>, you who dwell<MH3427> in Zion<MH6726>, do not fear<MH3372a> the Assyrian<MH804b> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>who strikes<MH5221> you with the rod<MH7626>, and lifts<MH5375> up<MH5375> his staff<MH4294> against<MH5921> you the way<MH1870> Egypt<MH4714> <i>did.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>For in a very<MH4213> little<MH4592> while<MH5750> My indignation<MH2195> <i>against you</i> will be ended<MH3615> and My anger<MH639> <i>will be directed</i> toward their destruction<MH8399>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> will wield<MH5782> a whip<MH7752> against<MH5921> him like the defeat<MH4347> of Midian<MH4080> at the rock<MH6697> of Oreb<MH6159>; and His staff<MH4294> will be over<MH5921> the sea<MH3220>, and He will lift<MH5375> it up<MH5375> the way<MH1870> <i>He did in</i> Egypt<MH4714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>So it will be on that day<MH3117>, that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>his burden<MH5448> will be removed<MH5493> from your shoulders<MH7926>, and his yoke<MH5923> from your neck<MH6677>; and the yoke<MH5923> will be broken<MH2254b> because<MH4480, 6440> of fatness<MH8081>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>He has come<MH935> against<MH5921> Aiath<MH5857>, <t><p class="indent1">He has passed<MH5674a> through Migron<MH4051>; <t><p class="indent1">At Michmash<MH4363> he deposited<MH6485> his baggage<MH3627>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>They have gone<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> the pass<MH4569b>, <i>saying,</i> <t><p class="indent1">&#8220;Geba<MH1387> will be our encampment<MH4411> for<MH4411> the<MH4411> night<MH4411>.&#8221; <t><p class="indent1">Ramah<MH7414> is terrified<MH2729>, and Gibeah<MH1390> of Saul<MH7586> has fled<MH5127>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Cry<MH6670a> aloud<MH6670a> with your voice<MH6963>, daughter<MH1323> of Gallim<MH1554>! <t><p class="indent1">Pay<MH7181> attention<MH7181>, Laishah<MH3919c> <i>and</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>wretched<MH6041> Anathoth<MH6068>! <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/10-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Madmenah<MH4088> has fled<MH5074>. <t><p class="indent1">The inhabitants<MH3427> of Gebim<MH1374> have sought<MH5756> refuge<MH5756>. <poetry><p
