Principal Component Analysis (KPCA). One aspect of KPCA is to find the most appropriate kernel function on finger vein recognition as there are several kernel functions which can be used within PCA-based algorithms. In this paper, however, another side of PCA-based algorithms -particularly KPCA- is investigated. The aspect of dimension of feature vector in PCA-based algorithms is of importance especially when it comes to the real-world applications and usage of such algorithms. It means that a fixed dimension of feature vector has to be set to reduce the dimension of the input and output data and extract the features from them. Then a classifier is performed to classify the data and make the final decision. We analyze KPCA (Polynomial, Gaussian, and Laplacian) in details in this paper and investigate the optimal feature extraction dimension in finger vein recognition using KPCA. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biometrics" title="biometrics">biometrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finger%20vein%20recognition" title=" finger vein recognition"> finger vein recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=principal%20component%20analysis%20%28PCA%29" title=" principal component analysis (PCA)"> principal component analysis (PCA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=kernel%20principal%20component%20analysis%20%28KPCA%29" title=" kernel principal component analysis (KPCA)"> kernel principal component analysis (KPCA)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14476/optimal-feature-extraction-dimension-in-finger-vein-recognition-using-kernel-principal-component-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14476.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">365</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1987</span> Preprocessing and Fusion of Multiple Representation of Finger Vein patterns using Conventional and Machine Learning techniques</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomas%20Trainys">Tomas Trainys</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Algimantas%20Venckauskas"> Algimantas Venckauskas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Application of biometric features to the cryptography for human identification and authentication is widely studied and promising area of the development of high-reliability cryptosystems. Biometric cryptosystems typically are designed for patterns recognition, which allows biometric data acquisition from an individual, extracts feature sets, compares the feature set against the set stored in the vault and gives a result of the comparison. Preprocessing and fusion of biometric data are the most important phases in generating a feature vector for key generation or authentication. Fusion of biometric features is critical for achieving a higher level of security and prevents from possible spoofing attacks. The paper focuses on the tasks of initial processing and fusion of multiple representations of finger vein modality patterns. These tasks are solved by applying conventional image preprocessing methods and machine learning techniques, Convolutional Neural Network (SVM) method for image segmentation and feature extraction. An article presents a method for generating sets of biometric features from a finger vein network using several instances of the same modality. Extracted features sets were fused at the feature level. The proposed method was tested and compared with the performance and accuracy results of other authors. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bio-cryptography" title="bio-cryptography">bio-cryptography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biometrics" title=" biometrics"> biometrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cryptographic%20key%20generation" title=" cryptographic key generation"> cryptographic key generation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20fusion" title=" data fusion"> data fusion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20security" title=" information security"> information security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SVM" title=" SVM"> SVM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pattern%20recognition" title=" pattern recognition"> pattern recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finger%20vein%20method." title=" finger vein method."> finger vein method.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97366/preprocessing-and-fusion-of-multiple-representation-of-finger-vein-patterns-using-conventional-and-machine-learning-techniques" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97366.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">150</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1986</span> Relationship between Finger Print Pattern and Gender among Adolescents of Igala Ethnic Group, Kogi State, Nigeria </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paul%20Idoko%20Ukanu">Paul Idoko Ukanu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sunday%20Abba"> Sunday Abba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Balogun%20%20Sadiya"> Balogun Sadiya </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The study of the finger prints patterns among the Igala ethnic groups was done in order to see their association gender. A cross sectional study was conducted and a total of 602 subjects participated in this study, 322 females and 280 males, which were mainly secondary school students between the age ranges of 13-19 years. The subjects fingerprint pattern was obtained by allowing them place the tip of each finger on the stamp pad, which is then imprinted on the questionnaire, this was done for both the left and right hand. Female had higher arch, whorl and loop finger print pattern in most of the right fingers than the males, the differences were statistically significant for the right index, right ring finger and right little finger, but were statistically insignificant for right thumb and right middle finger as p = 0.207 and 0.726, respectively. The result also revealed that males had higher arch finger print pattern in the right index and right little finger than the females, which was statistically significant (p = 0.001), and also a high whorl finger print pattern than the females in the right middle and ring finger. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=arch" title="arch">arch</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=loop" title=" loop"> loop</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=whorl" title=" whorl"> whorl</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fingers" title=" fingers"> fingers</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122243/relationship-between-finger-print-pattern-and-gender-among-adolescents-of-igala-ethnic-group-kogi-state-nigeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122243.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">148</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1985</span> Maximum-likelihood Inference of Multi-Finger Movements Using Neural Activities</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyung-Jin%20You">Kyung-Jin You</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kiwon%20Rhee"> Kiwon Rhee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc%20H.%20Schieber"> Marc H. We present an evidence of correlation between single and multi-finger movements and also attempt a challenging task of semi-blind decoding of neural data with minimum training of the neural decoder. Data were collected from 115 task-related neurons in M1 of a trained rhesus monkey performing flexion and extension of each finger and the wrist (12 single and 6 two-finger-movements). By exploiting correlation of temporal firing pattern between movements, we found that correlation coefficient for physically related movements pairs is greater than others; neurons tuned to single finger movements increased their firing rate when multi-finger commands were instructed. According to this knowledge, neural semi-blind decoding is done by choosing the greatest and the second greatest likelihood for canonical candidates. We achieved a decoding accuracy about 60% for multiple finger movement without corresponding training data set. this results suggest that only with the neural activities on single finger movements can be exploited to control dexterous multi-fingered neuroprosthetics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finger%20movement" title="finger movement">finger movement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20activity" title=" neural activity"> neural activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blind%20decoding" title=" blind decoding"> blind decoding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M1" title=" M1"> M1</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1874/maximum-likelihood-inference-of-multi-finger-movements-using-neural-activities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1874.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">320</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1984</span> Analysis of a Single Motor Finger Mechanism for a Prosthetic Hand</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shaukat%20Ali">Shaukat Ali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kanber%20Sedef"> Kanber Sedef</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mustafa%20Yilmaz"> Mustafa Yilmaz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This work analyzes a finger mechanism for a prosthetic hand that will help in improving the living standards of people who have lost their hands for a variety of reasons. The finger mechanism is single degree of freedom and hence has advantages such as compact size, reduced mass and less energy consumption. The proposed finger mechanism is a six bar linkage actuated by a single motor. The kinematic, static and dynamic analyses have been done by using the conventional methods of mechanism analysis. The kinematic results present the motion of the proposed finger mechanism and location of the fingertip. The static and dynamic analyses provide the useful information about the gripping force at the fingertip for various configurations and the selection of motor that will move the finger over its range of configuration. This single motor finger mechanism is simple and resembles the human finger’s motion suitable for grasping operation. This study can be used in the optimization of geometrical parameters of the proposed mechanism to obtain the desired configurations with minimum torque and enhanced griping. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamics" title="dynamics">dynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finger%20mechanism" title=" finger mechanism"> finger mechanism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grasping" title=" grasping"> grasping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=kinematics" title=" kinematics"> kinematics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49855/analysis-of-a-single-motor-finger-mechanism-for-a-prosthetic-hand" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49855.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">358</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1983</span> A Novel Combined Finger Counting and Finite State Machine Technique for ASL Translation Using Kinect</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rania%20Ahmed%20Kadry%20Abdel%20Gawad%20Birry">Rania Ahmed Kadry Abdel Gawad Birry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20El-Habrouk"> Mohamed El-Habrouk</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a brief survey of the techniques used for sign language recognition along with the types of sensors used to perform the task. The precise tracking of the index finger and the estimation of joint positions are essential for developing effective gesture recognition systems. However, various challenges, such as anatomical variations, occlusions, and environmental influences, hinder optimal functionality. This study investigates the performance of the YOLOv8m model for hand detection using the EgoHands dataset, which comprises diverse hand gesture images captured in various environments. Over three training processes, the model demonstrated significant improvements in precision (from 88.8% to 96.1%) and recall (from 83.5% to 93.5%), achieving a mean average precision (mAP) of 97.3% at an IoU threshold of 0.7. We also compared YOLOv8m with MediaPipe and an integrated YOLOv8 + MediaPipe approach. The combined method outperformed the individual models, achieving an accuracy of 99% and a recall of 99%. These findings underscore the benefits of model integration in enhancing gesture recognition accuracy and localization for real-time applications. The results suggest promising avenues for future research in HCI, particularly in augmented reality and assistive technologies, where improved gesture recognition can significantly enhance user experience. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=YOLOv8" title="YOLOv8">YOLOv8</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mediapipe" title=" mediapipe"> mediapipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finger%20tracking" title=" finger tracking"> finger tracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=joint%20estimation" title=" joint estimation"> joint estimation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human-computer%20interaction%20%28HCI%29" title=" human-computer interaction (HCI)"> human-computer interaction (HCI)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/194650/real-time-finger-tracking-evaluating-yolov8-and-mediapipe-for-enhanced-hci" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/194650.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">5</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1981</span> Numerical Investigation of Blood Flow around a Leaflet Valve through a Perforating Vein</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zohreh%20Sheidaei">Zohreh Sheidaei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farhad%20Sadegh%20Moghanlou"> Farhad Sadegh Moghanlou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rahim%20Vesal"> Rahim Vesal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Diseases related to leg venous system are common worldwide. An incompetent vein with deformed wall and insufficient valves affects flow field of blood and disrupts the process of blood circulating system. In the present study, blood flow around a leaflet valve of a perforating vein is investigated numerically by Finite Element Method. Flow behavior and vortexes, generated around the leaflet valves, are studied considering valve opening percentage. Implementation of a target technology has guided to opt some specific parallel and simple processing algorithms. In the proposed system, we use four structural directional kernel elements for filtering finger vein images. Then, a Top-Hat and Bottom-Hat kernel filters are used to enhance the visibility and the appearance of venous images. For feature extraction step, a simple Local Directional Code (LDC) descriptor is applied. The proposed system presents an Error Equal Rate (EER) and Identification Rate (IR), respectively, equal to 0.02 and 98%. Furthermore, experimental results show that real-time operations have good performance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biometric" title="biometric">biometric</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bottom-Hat" title=" Bottom-Hat"> Bottom-Hat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fingervein" title=" Fingervein"> Fingervein</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LDC" title=" LDC"> LDC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rasberry-Pi" title=" Rasberry-Pi"> Rasberry-Pi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ROI" title=" ROI"> ROI</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Top-Hat" title=" Top-Hat"> Top-Hat</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86829/low-cost-embedded-biometric-system-based-on-fingervein-modality" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86829.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">205</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1979</span> Comparative Study of Skeletonization and Radial Distance Methods for Automated Finger Enumeration</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Hossain%20Mohammadi">Mohammad Hossain Mohammadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saif%20Al%20Ameri"> Saif Al Ameri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sana%20Ziaei"> Sana Ziaei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jinane%20Mounsef"> Jinane Mounsef</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Automated enumeration of the number of hand fingers is widely used in several motion gaming and distance control applications, and is discussed in several published papers as a starting block for hand recognition systems. The automated finger enumeration technique should not only be accurate, but also must have a fast response for a moving-picture input. The high performance of video in motion games or distance control will inhibit the program’s overall speed, for image processing software such as Matlab need to produce results at high computation speeds. Since an automated finger enumeration with minimum error and processing time is desired, a comparative study between two finger enumeration techniques is presented and analyzed in this paper. In the pre-processing stage, various image processing functions were applied on a real-time video input to obtain the final cleaned auto-cropped image of the hand to be used for the two techniques. The first technique uses the known morphological tool of skeletonization to count the number of skeleton’s endpoints for fingers. The second technique uses a radial distance method to enumerate the number of fingers in order to obtain a one dimensional hand representation. For both discussed methods, the different steps of the algorithms are explained. Then, a comparative study analyzes the accuracy and speed of both techniques. Through experimental testing in different background conditions, it was observed that the radial distance method was more accurate and responsive to a real-time video input compared to the skeletonization method. All test results were generated in Matlab and were based on displaying a human hand for three different orientations on top of a plain color background. Finally, the limitations surrounding the enumeration techniques are presented. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comparative%20study" title="comparative study">comparative study</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hand%20recognition" title=" hand recognition"> hand recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fingertip%20detection" title=" fingertip detection"> fingertip detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=skeletonization" title=" skeletonization"> skeletonization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radial%20distance" title=" radial distance"> radial distance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Matlab" title=" Matlab"> Matlab</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28679/comparative-study-of-skeletonization-and-radial-distance-methods-for-automated-finger-enumeration" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28679.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">382</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1978</span> Fusion of Finger Inner Knuckle Print and Hand Geometry Features to Enhance the Performance of Biometric Verification System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20L.%20Anitha">M. Recognition systems are required by several civilian and commercial applications for providing access to secured resources. Traditional recognition systems which are based on physical identities are not sufficiently reliable to satisfy the security requirements due to the use of several advances of forgery and identity impersonation methods. Recognizing individuals based on his/her unique physiological characteristics known as biometric traits is a reliable technique, since these traits are not transferable and they cannot be stolen or lost. Since the performance of biometric based recognition system depends on the particular trait that is utilized, the present work proposes a fusion approach which combines Inner knuckle print (IKP) trait of the middle, ring and index fingers with the geometrical features of hand. The hand image captured from a digital camera is preprocessed to find finger IKP as region of interest (ROI) and hand geometry features. Geometrical features are represented as the distances between different key points and IKP features are extracted by applying local binary pattern descriptor on the IKP ROI. The decision level AND fusion was adopted, which has shown improvement in performance of the combined scheme. The proposed approach is tested on the database collected at our institute. Proposed approach is of significance since both hand geometry and IKP features can be extracted from the palm region of the hand. The fusion of these features yields a false acceptance rate of 0.75%, false rejection rate of 0.86% for verification tests conducted, which is less when compared to the results obtained using individual traits. The results obtained confirm the usefulness of proposed approach and suitability of the selected features for developing biometric based recognition system based on features from palmar region of hand. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biometrics" title="biometrics">biometrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hand%20geometry%20features" title=" hand geometry features"> hand geometry features</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inner%20knuckle%20print" title=" inner knuckle print"> inner knuckle print</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recognition" title=" recognition"> recognition</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55988/fusion-of-finger-inner-knuckle-print-and-hand-geometry-features-to-enhance-the-performance-of-biometric-verification-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55988.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">220</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1977</span> Spin-Dependent Transport Signatures of Bound States: From Finger to Top Gates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yun-Hsuan%20Yu">Yun-Hsuan Yu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chi-Shung%20Tang"> Chi-Shung Tang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nzar%20Rauf%20Abdullah"> Nzar Rauf Abdullah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vidar%20Gudmundsson"> Vidar Gudmundsson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Spin-orbit gap feature in energy dispersion of one-dimensional devices is revealed via strong spin-orbit interaction (SOI) effects under Zeeman field. For the finger-gate system, we find a bound state in continuum for incident electrons within the ultra-low energy regime. For the top-gate system, we observe more bound-state features in conductance associated with the formation of spin-associated hole-like or electron-like quasi-bound states around band thresholds, as well as hole bound states around the reverse point of the energy dispersion. This study investigates the relationship between fluctuations of biological signals which are shown by a finger plethysmogram (i.e., finger pulse wave) in conversation and anthropophobic tendency, and identifies whether the fluctuation could be an index of mental health. 32 college students participated in the experiment. The finger plethysmogram of each subject was measured in the following conversation situations: Fun memory talking/listening situation and regrettable memory talking/ listening situation for three minutes each. Lyspect 3.5 was used to collect the data of the finger plethysmogram. Since Lyspect calculates the Lyapunov spectrum, it is possible to obtain the largest Lyapunov exponent (LLE). LLE is an indicator of the fluctuation and shows the degree to which a measure is going away from close proximity to the track in a dynamical system. Before the finger plethysmogram experiment, each participant took the psychological test questionnaire “Anthropophobic Scale.” The scale measures the social phobia trend close to the consciousness of social phobia. It is revealed that there is a remarkable relationship between the fluctuation of the finger plethysmography and anthropophobic tendency scale in talking about a regrettable story in conversation: The participants (<em>N</em>=15) who have a low anthropophobic tendency show significantly more fluctuation of finger pulse waves than the participants (<em>N</em>=17) who have a high anthropophobic tendency (<em>F</em> (1, 31) =5.66, <em>p</em><0.05). That is, the participants who have a low anthropophobic tendency make conversation flexibly using large fluctuation of biological signal; on the other hand, the participants who have a high anthropophobic tendency constrain a conversation because of small fluctuation. Therefore, fluctuation is not an error but an important drive to make better relationships with others and go towards the development of interaction. In considering mental health, the fluctuation of biological signals would be an important indicator. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anthropophobic%20tendency" title="anthropophobic tendency">anthropophobic tendency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finger%20plethymogram" title=" finger plethymogram"> finger plethymogram</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluctuation%20of%20biological%20signal" title=" fluctuation of biological signal"> fluctuation of biological signal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LLE" title=" LLE"> LLE</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56736/the-relationship-between-fluctuation-of-biological-signal-finger-plethysmogram-in-conversation-and-anthropophobic-tendency" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56736.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">238</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1975</span> Anomalous Course of Left Ovarian Vein Associated with Pelvic Congestion Syndrome</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Viyango%20Pandian">Viyango Pandian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kumaresh%20Athiyappan"> Kumaresh Athiyappan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Pelvic congestion Syndrome (PCS) is usually seen in multiparous women who give history of chronic dull-aching pelvic pain. We report a case of a 17 year old unmarried female, who presented with acute onset of chronic dull-aching abdominal pain in the left iliac fossa, which particularly increased during menstruation and was finally diagnosed to be pelvic congestion syndrome. On ultrasonography, multiple tortuous and dilated veins were observed in the left adnexa. Both ovaries appeared normal in size, volume and echotexture. Computed tomography (CT) angiography was performed to precisely delineate the venous pathway and to assess any associated abnormality; which showed a dilated and tortuous left ovarian vein with an anomalous course around the left kidney and draining into the left renal vein. Clinical parameters and hormonal levels were within normal limits. This is a rare case of anomalous course of left ovarian vein associated with pelvic congestion syndrome. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anomalous%20course%20of%20ovarian%20vein" title="anomalous course of ovarian vein">anomalous course of ovarian vein</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computed%20tomography" title=" computed tomography"> computed tomography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pelvic%20congestion%20syndrome" title=" pelvic congestion syndrome"> pelvic congestion syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonography" title=" ultrasonography"> ultrasonography</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70992/anomalous-course-of-left-ovarian-vein-associated-with-pelvic-congestion-syndrome" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70992.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">418</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1974</span> Gross Anatomical Study on the Tributaries of the Hepatic Portal Vein in Cattle Egret (Bubulcus Ibis)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elsayed%20Fath%20Khalifa">Elsayed Fath Khalifa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Samer%20Mohamed%20Daghash"> Samer Mohamed Daghash</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of the current work study to increase the anatomical knowledge about the cattle egret which considered economically important for farmers. The study was carried out on ten adult, apparently healthy cattle egrets of both sexes. Each bird was exsanguinated; the caudal vena cava was cannulated and flushed with warm normal saline solution (0.9%) then injected with blue colored neoprine (60%) latex in order to study the tributaries of the hepatic portal vein. The origin, course and tributaries of the right and left hepatic portal veins were studied. The hepatic portal venous system collected venous blood from the abdominal viscera including; glandular and muscular stomachs, liver, pancreas, spleen, small intestine and large intestine. The hepatic portal vein was formed by the left and the right hepatic portal veins. The smaller left one drained blood from the glandular and muscular stomachs through the ventral and the left proventriculus as well as the left gastric veins. The most tributaries of the right hepatic portal vein drained blood from the rest of the gastrointestinal tract and the spleen by the proventriculosplenic, the gastropancreaticoduodenal and the common mesenteric veins. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cattle%20egret" title="cattle egret">cattle egret</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=common%20mesenteric%20vein" title=" common mesenteric vein"> common mesenteric vein</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hepatic%20portal%20vein" title=" hepatic portal vein"> hepatic portal vein</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anatomy" title=" anatomy"> anatomy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24742/gross-anatomical-study-on-the-tributaries-of-the-hepatic-portal-vein-in-cattle-egret-bubulcus-ibis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24742.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">412</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1973</span> Dissection of Genomic Loci for Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus Resistance in Okra (Abelmoschus esculentas)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rakesh%20Kumar%20Meena">Rakesh Kumar Meena</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tanushree%20Chatterjee"> Tanushree Chatterjee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Okra (Abelmoschus esculentas L. Moench) or lady’s finger is an important vegetable crop belonging to the Malvaceae family. Unfortunately, production and productivity of Okra are majorly affected by Yellow Vein mosaic virus (YVMV). The AO: 189 (resistant parent) X AO: 191(susceptible parent) used for the development of mapping population. The mapping population has 143 individuals (F₂:F₃). Population was characterized by physiological and pathological observations. Screening of 360 DNA markers was performed to survey for parental polymorphism between the contrasting parents’, i.e., AO: 189 and AO: 191. Out of 360; 84 polymorphic markers were used for genotyping of the mapping population. Total markers were distributed into four linkage groups (LG1, LG2, LG3, and LG4). LG3 covered the longest span (106.8cM) with maximum number of markers (27) while LG1 represented the smallest linkage group in terms of length (71.2cM). QTL identification using the composite interval mapping approach detected two prominent QTLs, QTL1 and QTL2 for resistance against YVMV disease. These QTLs were placed between the marker intervals of NBS-LRR72-Path02 and NBS-LRR06- NBS-LRR65 on linkage group 02 and linkage group 04 respectively. The LOD values of QTL1 and QTL2 were 5.7 and 6.8 which accounted for 19% and 27% of the total phenotypic variation, respectively. The findings of this study provide two linked markers which can be used as efficient diagnostic tools to distinguish between YVMV resistant and susceptible Okra cultivars/genotypes. Lines identified as highly resistant against YVMV infection can be used as donor lines for this trait. This will be instrumental in accelerating the trait improvement program in Okra and will substantially reduce the yield losses due to this viral disease. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Okra" title="Okra">Okra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=yellow%20vein%20mosaic%20virus" title=" yellow vein mosaic virus"> yellow vein mosaic virus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resistant" title=" resistant"> resistant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linkage%20map" title=" linkage map"> linkage map</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=QTLs" title=" QTLs"> QTLs</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93229/dissection-of-genomic-loci-for-yellow-vein-mosaic-virus-resistance-in-okra-abelmoschus-esculentas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93229.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">215</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1972</span> Distinct Antiviral Pathway for ZFP36-Like Family Members Against Flavivirus Infection</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ren-Jye%20Lin">Ren-Jye Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Li-Hsiung%20Lin"> Li-Hsiung Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bing-Cheng%20Liu"> Bing-Cheng Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ching-Len%20Liao"> Ching-Len Liao</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The human zinc finger protein 36-like protein family, containing zinc finger protein 36-like 1 (ZFP36L1) and zinc finger protein 36-like 2 (ZFP36L2), belongs to CCCH-type zinc-finger protein identified as an RNA-binding protein that participates in controlling posttranscriptional regulation via RNA decay pathways. Recently, we demonstrated that human ZFP36L1 showed potent antiviral activity against flavivirus Infection by both 5´-3´ XRN1 and 3´-5´RNA-exosome RNA decay pathways (Journal of Virology 2022 Jan 12;96(1): e0166521). However, another zinc finger protein 36-like protein member, ZFP36L2, in the host defense response against flaviviruses has yet to be addressed. Here, we also demonstrate that ZFP36L2 functions as a host innate defender against flaviviruses, including Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) and dengue virus (DENV). Overexpression of ZFP36L2 reduced JEV and DENV infection, and ZFP36L2 knockdown significantly promoted viral replication. Distinct from the antiviral mechanism of ZFP36L1, ZFP36L2 inhibits flavivirus infection by only a 5´-3´ XRN1-mediated RNA decay pathway but not the 3´-5´RNA-exosome RNA decay pathway. Human ZFP36L1 and ZFP36L2 can restrict flavivirus replication by directly binding and destabilizing viral RNA. Thus, for the first time, human zinc finger protein 36-like family members, ZFP36L1 and ZFP36L2, are identified as host antiviral factors that can bind and degrade flavivirus viral RNA by diverse antiviral mechanisms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ZFP36L1" title="ZFP36L1">ZFP36L1</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ZFP36L2" title=" ZFP36L2"> ZFP36L2</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=5%27-3%27%20exonuclease%20XRN1" title=" 5'-3' exonuclease XRN1"> 5'-3' exonuclease XRN1</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antiviral%20mechansim" title=" antiviral mechansim"> antiviral mechansim</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166251/distinct-antiviral-pathway-for-zfp36-like-family-members-against-flavivirus-infection" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166251.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">78</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1971</span> Handwriting Recognition of Gurmukhi Script: A Survey of Online and Offline Techniques</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ravneet%20Kaur">Ravneet Kaur</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Character recognition is a very interesting area of pattern recognition. The features of the OCR method were examined using the ABBYY FineReader program. It describes automatic text recognition in images. OCR is necessary because optical input devices can only transmit raster graphics as a result. Text recognition describes the task of recognizing letters shown as such, to identify and assign them an assigned numerical value in accordance with the usual text encoding (ASCII, Unicode). The peculiarity of this study conducted by the authors using the example of the ABBYY FineReader, was confirmed and shown in practice, the improvement of digital text recognition platforms developed by Electronic Publication. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ABBYY%20FineReader%20system" title="ABBYY FineReader system">ABBYY FineReader system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=algorithm%20symbol%20recognition" title=" algorithm symbol recognition"> algorithm symbol recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=OCR%2FICR%20techniques" title=" OCR/ICR techniques"> OCR/ICR techniques</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recognition%20technologies" title=" recognition technologies"> recognition technologies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130255/ocricr-text-recognition-using-abbyy-finereader-as-an-example-text" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130255.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">168</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1969</span> Human Coronary Sinus Venous System as a Target for Clinical Procedures</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wies%C5%82awa%20Klimek-Piotrowska">Wiesława Klimek-Piotrowska</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mateusz%20K.%20Ho%C5%82da"> Mateusz K. Since it is a target for clinicians the knowledge of its anatomy is essential. Cardiac resynchronization therapy, catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias, defibrillation, perfusion therapy, mitral valve annuloplasty, targeted drug delivery, and retrograde cardioplegia administration are commonly used therapeutic methods involving the CSVS. The great variability in the course of coronary veins and tributaries makes the diagnostic and therapeutic processes difficult. Our aim was to investigate detailed anatomy of most common clinically used CSVS`s structures: the coronary sinus with its ostium, great cardiac vein, posterior vein of the left ventricle, middle cardiac vein and oblique vein of the left atrium. Methodology: This is a prospective study of 70 randomly selected autopsied hearts dissected from adult humans (Caucasian) aged 50.1±17.6 years old (24.3% females) with BMI=27.6±6.7 kg/m2. The morphology of the CSVS was assessed as well as its precise measurements were performed. Results: The coronary sinus (CS) with its ostium was present in all hearts. The mean CS ostium diameter was 9.9±2.5mm. Considered ostium was covered by its valve in 87.1% with mean valve height amounted 5.1±3.1mm. The mean percentage coverage of the CS ostium by the valve was 56%. The Vieussens valve was present in 71.4% and was unicuspid in 70%, bicuspid in 26% and tricuspid in 4% of hearts. The great cardiac vein was present in all cases. The oblique vein of the left atrium was observed in 84.3% of hearts with mean length amounted 20.2±9.3mm and mean ostium diameter 1.4±0.9mm. The average length of the CS (from the CS ostium to the Vieussens valve) was 31.1±9.5mm or (from the CS ostium to the ostium of the oblique vein of the left atrium) 28.9±10.1mm and both were correlated with the heart weight (r=0.47; p=0.00 and r=0.38; p=0.006 respectively). In 90.5% the ostium of the oblique vein of the left atrium was located proximally to the Vieussens valve, in remaining cases was distally. The middle cardiac vein was present in all hearts and its valve was noticed in more than half of all the cases (52.9%). The posterior vein of the left ventricle was observed in 91.4% of cases. Conclusions: The CSVS is vastly variable and none of basic hearts parameters is a good predictor of its morphology. The Vieussens valve could be a significant obstacle during CS cannulation. Caution should be exercised in this area to avoid coronary sinus perforation. Because of the higher incidence of the presence of the oblique vein of the left atrium than the Vieussens valve, the vein orifice is more useful in determining the CS length. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cardiac%20resynchronization%20therapy" title="cardiac resynchronization therapy">cardiac resynchronization therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coronary%20sinus" title=" coronary sinus"> coronary sinus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thebesian%20valve" title=" Thebesian valve"> Thebesian valve</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vieussens%20valve" title=" Vieussens valve "> Vieussens valve </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27594/human-coronary-sinus-venous-system-as-a-target-for-clinical-procedures" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27594.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">302</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1968</span> Ulnar Parametacarpal Flap for Coverage of Fifth Finger Defects: Propeller Flap Concept</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20M.%20Gad">Ahmed M. It could be a traumatic, post-burn, or after contracture release. Different options could be used for resurfacing these defect, including skin grafts, local or regional flaps. Ulnar para-metacarpal flap described by Bakhach in 1995 based on the distal division of the dorsal branch of the ulnar artery considered a good option for that. In this work, we applied the concept of propeller flap for better mobilization and in-setting of the ulnar para-metacarpal flap. Methods: The study included 15 cases with 4 females and 11 male patients. 10 of the patients had severe post-burn contractures of little finger, and 5 had post-traumatic little finger defects. Contractures were released and resulting soft tissue defects were reconstructed with propeller ulnar para-metacarpal artery flap. The flap based on two main perforators communicating with the palmar system, it was raised based on one of them depending on the extent of the defect and rotated 180 degrees after judicious dissection of the perforator. Results: 13 flaps survived completely, one of the cases developed partial skin loss, which healed by dressing, another flap was completely lost and covered later by a full-thickness skin graft. Conclusion: Ulnar para-metacarpal flap is a reliable option to resurface the little finger as well as adjacent areas. The application of the propeller flap concept based on whether the proximal or distal communicating branch makes the rotation and in-setting of the flap easier. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=little%20finger%20defects" title="little finger defects">little finger defects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=propeller%20flap" title=" propeller flap"> propeller flap</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regional%20hand%20defects" title=" regional hand defects"> regional hand defects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ulnar%20parametacarpal%20flap" title=" ulnar parametacarpal flap"> ulnar parametacarpal flap</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112655/ulnar-parametacarpal-flap-for-coverage-of-fifth-finger-defects-propeller-flap-concept" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112655.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">198</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1967</span> An Improved OCR Algorithm on Appearance Recognition of Electronic Components Based on Self-adaptation of Multifont Template</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhu-Qing%20Jia">Zhu-Qing Jia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tao%20Lin"> Tao Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tong%20Zhou"> Tong Zhou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The recognition method of Optical Character Recognition has been expensively utilized, while it is rare to be employed specifically in recognition of electronic components. A figure exoskeleton was developed using ionic polymer metal composite (IPMC) actuators, and the performance of it was evaluated in this study. In order to study dynamic performance of a finger dummy performing pinching motion, force generating characteristics of an IPMC actuator and pinching motion of a thumb and index finger dummy actuated by IMPC actuators were analyzed. The blocking force of 1.54 N was achieved under 4 V of DC. A thumb and index finger dummy, which has one degree of freedom at the proximal joint of each figure, was manufactured by a three dimensional rapid prototyping. Each figure was actuated by an IPMC actuator, and the maximum fingertip force was 1.18 N. Pinching motion of a dummy was analyzed by two video cameras in vertical top and horizontal left end view planes. A figure dummy powered by IPMC actuators could perform flexion and extension motion of an index figure and a thumb. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finger%20exoskeleton" title="finger exoskeleton">finger exoskeleton</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ionic%20polymer%20metal%20composite" title=" ionic polymer metal composite"> ionic polymer metal composite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flexion%20and%20extension" title=" flexion and extension"> flexion and extension</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=motion%20analysis" title=" motion analysis"> motion analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5043/preliminary-study-on-analysis-of-pinching-motion-actuated-by-electro-active-polymers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5043.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">237</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1965</span> Hand Gestures Based Emotion Identification Using Flex Sensors</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Ali">S. Each gesture is categorized into sad, happy, and excited class based on the velocity and acceleration of the hand gesture. Seventeen inspectors observed the emotions and hand gestures of the five subjects. The emotional state based on the investigators assessment and acquired movement speed data is compared. Overall, we achieved 77% accurate results. Swan neck deformity is not very common in finger it may occur after any disease. Conservative treatment of the swan neck deformity is available by using different static splints only. There are very few reports of surgical correction of swan-neck deformity in benign hypermobility syndrome. Method: This case report describes the result of surgical intervention and hand splint in a twenty year old lady with past history of cardiovascular stroke with no residual neurological deficit. She presented with correctable swan neck deformity and failed to improve with static ring splints to correct the deformity. She was noted to have hyperlaxity (EhlerDanlos type) as per modified Beighton’s score of 5/9. She underwent volar plate plication of the proximal interphalangeal joint of the left ring finger along with hemitenodesis of ulnar slip of flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) tendon whereby, the ulnar slip of FDS was passed through a small surgically created rent in A2 pulley and sutured back to itself. Result: Postoperatively, the patient was referred to occupational therapy for splinting with the instruction that the splint would work some time for as static and some time as dynamic for positional and correction of the finger. Conclusion: After occupational therapy intervention and splinting, the patient had a full correction of the swan-neck deformity with near full flexion of the operated finger and is able to work independently. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swan%20neck" title="swan neck">swan neck</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finger" title=" finger"> finger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deformity" title=" deformity"> deformity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=splint" title=" splint"> splint</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hypermobility" title=" hypermobility"> hypermobility</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64592/a-surgical-correction-and-innovative-splint-for-swan-neck-deformity-in-hypermobility-syndrome" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64592.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">254</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1962</span> Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of End Milling Process with Multiple Finger Inserted Cutters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G.%20Krishna%20Mohana%20Rao">G. We can use these information to build more accurate features, So we present our DBN-based face recognition system using Light Field. We can see Light Field as another presentation of 3D image, and Light Field Camera show us a way to receive a Light Field. We use the commercially available Light Field Camera to act as the collector of our face recognition system, and the system receive a state-of-art performance as convenient as conventional 2D face recognition system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DBN" title="DBN">DBN</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=face%20recognition" title=" face recognition"> face recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=light%20field" title=" light field"> light field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lytro" title=" Lytro"> Lytro</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10821/dbn-based-face-recognition-system-using-light-field" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10821.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">464</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1960</span> Electrochemotherapy of Portal Vein Tumor Thrombus as Dowstaging to Liver Transplantation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luciano%20Tarantino">Luciano Tarantino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emanuele%20Balzano"> Emanuele Balzano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paolo%20Tarantino"> Paolo Tarantino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Riccardo%20Aurelio%20Nasto"> Riccardo Aurelio Nasto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aurelio%20Nasto"> Aurelio Nasto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Liver transplantation (OLT) is contraindicate in Portal Vein tumor Thrombosis (PVTT) from Hepatocellular Carcinoma at hepatic hilum(pH-HCC) Surgery,Thermal ablation and chemotherapy show poorer outcomes Electrochemotherapy (ECT) has been successfully used in patients with pH-HCC with PVTT. As a therapeutic strategy, targeting PKCα is difficult because the molecule is ubiquitously expressed in non-malignant cells. PKCα is regulated by the cooperative interaction of the transcription factors myeloid zinc finger 1 (MZF-1) and Ets-like protein-1 (Elk-1) in human cancer cells. By conducting tissue array analysis, herein, we determined the protein expression of MZF-1/Elk-1/PKCα in various cancers. The data show that the expression of MZF-1/Elk-1 is correlated with that of PKCα in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but not in bladder and lung cancers. In addition, the PKCα down-regulation by shRNA Elk-1 was only observed in the HCC SK-Hep-1 cells. Blocking the interaction between MZF-1 and Elk-1 through the transfection of their binding domain MZF-160–72 decreased PKCα expression. This step ultimately depressed the epithelial-mesenchymal transition potential of the HCC cells. These findings could be used to develop an alternative therapeutic strategy for patients with the PKCα-derived HCC. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
